Today's Weather in your Garden - 84

14" and getting ready to Peter out.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - a bag will only last until tonight.

Looked outside my laundry room window. Drifts are over three feet.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

We got about 12'' way better than the predicted 20...still too much for me! Some of the drifts though are pretty high. Temp is about 25 but wind chill makes it feel like the teens.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We got more than predicted - between 14 and 20 throughout the county.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

That was cool!

Its still snowing here:(

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow, you guys got no where to put that snow!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Looks like everyone got dumped on. Cable and internet back on finally. Bless those line workers on a nasty day like this. We got at least a foot or more, hard to tell with all the drifts. Wind still blowing it around. Here are a couple pics.

...and one looking out back. Hope it warms up like they are saying it is going to by the end of the week.

Pretty, Pat! Hope you had a great Christmas. Have not seen you posting lately.

Thomaston, CT

Photos are pretty, but I hate to be out in the storm....also hate the slushy aftermath....our town roads are better than this morning, but not great.....my hill is snow covered still.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Victor. Ya, the holiday hustle and bustle bit you know. Glad it is over but did have a lovely time and I hope all of you guys did as well. Santa brought me my Kindle so I am burning up the airwaves getting books. Any good suggestions for a novel or two? I hope Santa did well by everyone. I am trying to catch up on threads but it is slow going since the cable went down yesterday afternoon in the storm and just got repaired.

Thomaston, CT

I'm rereading an older series by Anne George.....southern sisters that are very funny.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great. Let me know how you like the Kindle. I will probably get the new iPad.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I like the Kindle a lot. It does not have a back light to strain my old eyes. One draw back is you burn through a book very quickly. IPad is good if you want to use it for other applications as well as books and magazines etc.
I will check to see if that series is on Kindle, sounds interesting, thanks Robin.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Still snowing and blowing...we are at the 15 - 18" mark with approx. 3ft. snow drifts.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I am looking at the iPad for other reasons first, and a reader second.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Has iPad created one that can have multiply windows open in it at once yet? Not much use for me until they do that, but I am sure that feature must be in the pipeline. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It can run multiple apps at once now. So can the iPhone. But you cannot see all of them at once.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

prbobly about 18" if not more hard to tell with all the drifts....nasty wind... I didn't go out there

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The new one will have two cameras, a usb port and more capacity. It will be slimmer and lighter.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hubby busy, Jen??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Busy snow blowing the driveway. Had 2 service calls over the weeked so went out real early before anyone got up, someone called today and he was giving instructions over the phone so he didn't have to go out.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would freak with no heat in this.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We had an ice storm in 91 without power for 5 days, and another in 03 but only out for a couple days. My son was upset at first with no TV, but we ended up having a lot of fun even if we were cold.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

It was 28° and sunny here. Have not heard from Mom yet. From the pics I saw on FB friend that lives near her, it looks like she got alot.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Mom is fine, they got 13". They lost power for about 5hrs. this am. They have it back now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good to hear!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Lots of snow here too. More than any of last year's storms.

As we all know, the horrendous CA. rains, eventurally circulated in a curve down through the Gulf area to upper Florida (rain.wind.snow) staying mostly on land mass (w/ocean help) to tear up the East Coast w/a new recorded snowfall in States, towns & major cities. Here in VT. (adding small squally snow storms for wks) the 6 to12 inches of snow from south snow, was "manna" to the ski-industry. (Our Mail box disappeared within an hr., just across the street; all bathroom vents howled all day as winds 30 to 50 MPH near 10 hrs. last night/today. A killer for wildlife & those humans w/out reliable heat. Basement "family room" of the 70's, rather modern cabinet wood stove cranking to keep all upstairs thermo's turned down. (Raised ranch!) Below zero a bit tonight/long 2 months ahead of us. I've had it, already, OK.

But want to leave you w/rather funny vision of elder couple trying THIS RECYCLE day of putting out garbage & recycables at mid-morning. (Plow guy for 8 inches of snow didn't show when he used to come for 3 inches!)
We started out with "house clothes" returning rapidly for ski-pants we couldn't find/big socks, boots, & even old down filled parkas & hoods.
Us being careful recyclists for years (and they may lie what they do with it) we had spent a day of carving up boxes, gathering Christmas paper in a clear bag, filling up many cardboard boxes, & 4 large plastic bins
w/ the usual household recyks. & Christmas paper products.

Me pulling, hubby pushing through the snow, we made tobaggon like tracks to curbside ~ I think we did this for an hour; like two humped up polar bears. Both tumbled once & we got to laughing so hard & soon not happy that the wind was trashing branches off our surrounding trees & colder than a "witches tit!" (One time we couldn't even see each other!!)

But, it was a crazy new memory, as we've never headed curbside to get out out the Holiday recyclables together. We are realizing we "need" to lean against each other a tad more.

Corinne from Vermont ~

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor : cool timelaps.
A warming trend is due this weekend. Our snow will probably melt.
Its free fertilizer and the longer it covers the ground the better.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am thinking we are going to deal with black ice for a few days now

:(

24 now going to 37.... don't hear the wind howling at the moment... hopefully that is done

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

41* by thursday and rain. That should do it.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

We are at 12 °F going up to 22 today....wind is a 9 MPH, nice! Yesterday was crazy with the wind, just read in the newspaper we has gust up to 50 mph.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I saw that on the news. The gusts were the equal od a cat.2 hurricane.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Parts of Northern N.J. got 29"!!

16" with 6 degrees and I dont want to go out but have to and it rots.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

We already have a record for Dec. 49 inches thats without the storm you got.
Just heard temps in the 60's on Sat.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Who gets temperatures in the 60's here in the northeast, ge?

Did they say it would be April?
