Well.. I found this today.. it's about 5 blocks from my roof garden.. A couple of years ago.. heard a thumpng commng from one of the windows.. and thought it was the cat up at the glass... and involved with some birds .. but she wasn't about... looking through the plants could see a haw.. maybe this one there... ripping apart a bird... got my automatic camera and started shooting.. only to fnd the camera was focusng on my plants and missing the hawk... it was then... having missed all the shots that I decided I had to have a camera where I had some ontrol of the focus also... and I got my nikon.. i did get a few pctures of the hawk after he flew to the next roof..and could photograph him with out plants in the way...
this is wildlife here... we're still apart of the animal worlld here..

Gordon
that is so neat, Thank you for posting, those sure are pretty Birds
Elizabeth
For some reason my pc will not show me You Tube. Years ago I was showing someone my Red Golden pheasants and just as we went out the back yard a Hawk swooped in and snatched a pigeon. The man with me said " I would get that Hawk" by that he meant he would kill it. I told him that wild pigeon sold for about $2. , than I reached in my pocket and pulled out $2. and stuck it in his shirt pocket and said" I would pay that just to see a Hawk take a bird out of the air again. I had buckets in trees and wild pigeons would nest in them and I fed them on the ground in the back yard. When the numbers got up, I would pitch some feed in a pen I had and close the door and then catch the young ones and sell them.
55 days until Spring and 50 days until average last frost.
Great video , loved the hawk.
Ken
I bet you're so ready too get outside, I am too, 65 days till Spring for me, 50 days sounds so much better, our temp right now is 34 degrees, but then it's suppose too be colder
Charlene, how's your Brugs doing in your GH?
Elizabeth
I ended up bringing the cuttings inside but I need to go thru them to see what really is still alive. The ones in the green house have all died back, so hoping they will come bac from roots. I hope!!!
Charleen
Some of mine have lost leaves, some are going great guns. the ones under the incubator light are the ones that are happiest. Kaitlyn lost another pod. It is drying. One left on her. She has sprouted leaves everywhere since then. Supposed to get up to the high 40s here this weekend. we will see. Still in the 20's in the ams and nights.

retta
It is suppose to be 60 here Friday!!!! But then another cold blast coming back next week.
Charlene, I do hope they come back from the roots for you, winter is so hard on them, I have a lot of die back, well I did,
I have cut all of it off, I had one Bud on one of my brugs, it dropped off, but I still have one, on another Brug
Debra, I just love your basement set, you really have it going on Girl
Retta, we had a bit of warm up yesterday also, but more cold on it's way, Yes Think Spring, Think Spring, Think Spring
Hugs too everyone also, stay warm 64 days till Spring here
Elizabeth
Crit, you'll be outside, wow 60 degrees, I could only wish, I wouldn't know how too act
Elizabeth
Just fed the birds and temp is 43, not bad after all the cold weather we have had. Cloudy but a wonderful day.
Charleen
evening everyone. I have decided I am ready to get some of the brugs out of here. I can't wait for warmer weather to send off the brugs I have more than one of. I keep going out to look and plan a different garden area for them other than the patio and the south fence. My Tall Tree brugs are going to stay on the patio, and the smaller ones I am putting along the dogrun behind the pear tree. South fence may get a few of the "new" brugs, but mostly the shade loving tropicals will dominate that area this year. So much for that plan. I will prolly change my mind a hundred times in the next 60 days. Still wondering the best kind of sun/shade for gingers?
My paper whites I planted are blooming now in their little pots. I can't believe how pretty they are, and I got the whole bag of them for under a dollar. They remind me of spring, only they are inside instead of outside.
Spring is just around the corner, I have winter sowing containers everywhere, and I am pumped.
Charlene, I am so glad you have nice weather, it got too 34 degrees, but with wind blowing, it felt much colder
Debra, sounds like you're getting ready, 63 more days till Spring here, you can see I am doing the count down, we have another snow storm coming over the week end, Thank goodness February is a short month, I am glad you have something
Blooming, I have one Bud on one of my Brugs, I had two but one dropped off
Elizabeth
Debra, Gingers like a few hours of good sun but not all day. I know in Kansas you sometimes get a lot of sun. You will need to winter them over in the basement or just dry out the rhizomes and keep in damp peat. I have lots of Gingers and getting more every year. I have a friend in south Texas who is a zone and a half higher than I and she has all kinds of Gingers. She is coming up on the 18 of Feb. to bring me some chicken eggs to hatch and help me with a quilt I am making. She is also bringing me up some new Gingers and taking home some Brugs I rooted for her. It has been colder than normal this year but not terribly so and not near as wet as last Winter and we have had lots of sunny days. So my cutting have done really well and the hoophouse is so full I hardly have room to walk. For those who have lost Brugs this Winter, I should be able to fix them up. I wished I had a camera, ( I lost mine ) I have Brugs blooming their heads off.
52 days until Spring and 47 days until average last frost.
OH... more snow... piled up against the cool room this time... and the first time this year there was snow that stayed on it's roof.. usually between it being so slick.. and exposed to the winds.. the storm ends with the roof clear... the good news is no building roof collapse here.. this was a deep heavy snow..
I poured out a bunch of bird food for the neghborhood..

Suppose to be 67 here Friday and still in the 60's Saturday ..... then it goes doooowwwwwnnnnn hill again.
I planted some ginger root a friend sent me that she got at the grocery. Hers is growing but mine is not. I'm disappointed!
Crit, I will send you a couple gingers I started from seed. They are doing fine. All my gingers down here are okay, but when I move them outside I want to see blooms.
Ken, I can't wait to see your place.. hope I make it there this summer.
Gordon, are you kidding me? Geeze.. I can't get over how much snow is on your roof.
Elizabeth, I am glad you have some brugs going. I think I am going to replace some of the cfls with hatchery bulbs. What do you think???
Good Morning everyone
62 days till Spring, we had a light dusting of snow, I am glad it wasn't what they said it would be
Ken, always good too see you
Gordon, you did get slammed with snow, I am glad your cool room is working so well
Crit, 2 days of 60's that would be great, I hope it doesn't get too cold for you, stay warm
Debra, I think that would work just fine, I would love too see photo's when you get them installed
Elizabeth
Kaitlyns last pod is hanging on.. I have her under the new hatchery bulb.. Maya likes it too.. The pods started turning as soon as the heat came on from the new bulbs. Can't see the bulb in this shot, will get a diffrent view tommorrow. It got up to 72 today and broke all our record highs. It is getting down to 17 for a high on next wenesday.. go figure.
Debra, it's great that your seedpod is holding on, Congrtulations, 72 degrees, that's only in my house, I am glad you had a warm day, that's crazy weather, 17 degrees is about normal for us this time of year, 61 days till Spring, I really like the leaves on your maya
Elizabeth
That pod is past ready to pick and if you are going to grow any of the seeds, they should be started real soon. Fresh seed do so much better than ones that have dried out.
50 days until Spring and 45 until average last frost.
Crit, I will send you a couple gingers I started from seed. They are doing fine. All my gingers down here are okay, but when I move them outside I want to see blooms.
THANKS DEBRA!!!
Elizabeth ... we ended up having 2 days of 70's!!! But next week we are having a winter blast ... highs will be in the 20's! Gotta love Oklahoma. :-)
I usually get the weather that Debra has one day delayed. If it hits her, it hits me the next day. lol
Looks like a canna leaf to me. Deb. Elizabeth, I have some of the brugs coming back fro the roots IN the gh. Isn't that great????
Hello everyone, long time no see...Debrah that does look like a canna, or maybe a banana baby.Whatever it is,I like the streaks in the leaves. I have some of the cutest little desert roses that I started from seed, growing happily under the grow lights. I am gathering up all the morning glory seeds that Debra sent and making notes of where all I want to plant them, come spring....soooo many beauties!
Dee
I have so many seeds. So many beautiful morming glory seeds from all over the world. I just can't find enought people to want to grow them.
Charleen, It is so cool to know your brugs are okay outside. I am envious of that, but glad for you.
I washed those seeds in that pod, some were covered with brown cork, some were just the wet kernels. I planted nine cups of those seeds, each cup has at least three seeds in them. I have more seeds if anyone wants any, I need to get them to you right away. They are Kaityln, crossed with either Isabella, or b suavelons... those were the only other brugs blooming at the same time with it last year.Remember Kaitlyn has the Long Flower that Turns Dark Dark pink only looks red, and it has tendrils that are about 3 maybe 4 inches long. B suavleons and Isabella have similiar blooms to each other, both wide flatter and light white to pink.
Good Morning everyone
Crit, it's nice too at least have a couple nice days
Ken, it's now 60 days till we have Spring, you are so lucky too have Spring sooner
Charlene, that's great, too have your Brugs come back, with our weather if I used my GH everything would be dead
or I would have an electric bill that I couldn't afford, so I'll just use my basement for now
Dee, it's great too have you back, I know everyone was worried about you
Debra, if I were good with seeds, I would love too have some, for some reason, they don't do well for me, I don't know if it's the light's or the heat, I am glad you have them, I have too work really hard this year at crossing
Elizabeth
