(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Okay Crit, got ya some seeds.. and I saw you lost your chalice vine, I will replace it this spring for you..

Hamilton, OH

Crit, how's your weather? the forcast this morning is predicting an ice storm for tommorrow, I sure do hope it misses us
Debra, that's so nice of you too give seeds, I wish they would grow for me in winter as well as they do outside in the Spring
59 days until Spring, each day it gets closer, that's my favorite time of year, I am sure it's everyone else's also

Elizabeth

Here it comes again, we are supposed to get the same system hit today also. It is 42 now but will be 24 by this evening. Dallas is 100 miles west of us and it is already 23 there now and they were in the high 70s yesterday. First rain then sleet, then frozen rain, then snow. I have a Dr. appointment this morning but not sure if I am going to work. I am in the sticks, which means I do not have to deal with all those drivers who do not know how to drive in weather like this but then again, roads do not get enough cars on them to keep them clear and they freeze over fast. I have just heard it is 3 in Amarillo. I am ready to head south but I am afraid I can not out run this storm.

I do not have any Brug pictures but I did use Maggi's camera and take some pictures of last years peachicks. It willl be another year before they get their darker green coloring.

Good morning everyone. We are iced in here.We got freezing rain, from around 3 o'clock yesterday on. It was still going on, when I went to bed, around 11. They are calling for up to 12 inches of snow, starting around noon today.Get stocked up, Elizabeth. This one's a doozy. Is this storm supposed to hit you, Gordon? Ken, stay in and stay safe.I used to live in the sticks and those back roads can be trecherous. Less traffic means you are one of the last ones to get your roads cleared, right?
Crit, when Debra sends out seeds/ plants, it's like Christmas! You never know what goodies you will get!! She sent me a box that was absolute filled to the brim, which included a huge bag of wonderful, and many rare seeds.I can't wait til spring, to get them started!
Stay safe everyone!
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Good Morning everyone
Ken, they are Beautiful, gotta love them
Dee, we have ice so bad you can hardly walk, thank goodness, they cancelled school, it's really cold out, I watched the news this morning, it said Texas, Kansas, Oaklahoma, New york, were all getting slammed, as well as Ohio & Indiana
this is normal weather for us, we get our heaviest snow fall in February, I am so glad it's a short month, 58 days till Spring
I am so glad, I was watering my Brugs, there are a lot of the small ones that bit the dust, I won't be getting any past June
this year, they just don't make it through the winter, unless they have at least 4 months too grow before bringing them in
stay warm & safe everyone

Elizabeth

Brownstown, IN

Yes.. Dee... it's to be an amazing storm... trying to find a window of clear to make it back to NYC this weekend...and enough time without rain to do the outside work I've yet to do with the house roof and the dog kennels.. before I head out... all time record snows for Detroit.. and Chcago.. in Alabama we're due to get the weather that's clearing out of Texas/ perhaps tornados with the rain/ice..
Ken... great birds.. I keep on mother to get some more... after her last peas were stolen.. but she thinks @ 90 years old.. and with her dozens of Bengal cats .. and dozens of coccers she raisiing and breeding she has plenty .. The current litter of blonde coccers has a smaller girl.. who she's supplementing with bottle feedings... shee's dug a few favorite brugs to keep in the greenhouse.. and rooted cuttings growing.. the remainder of them are left in the ground for the winter... most of these will come back for her in the sprng..
Well... hopee every one is ready to brave the snow and ice .....the worst for the tender brugs is power outages.. the ice can bring..

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Back from the Dr. and it is 28 and falling, roads are already starting to ice over. I don't know if I want to go to work and then have to try and make it back later on this evening.

Love your peacocks, Ken. I made it home today from work as did DH, but it was slow going. The snow was up to my car door and I had to do some manuevering to get it out of the parking lot.
Hope this is gone for a few days as it heads your way, Gordon. We know it is headed for Buffalo, NY and called his MOM to make sure she has stocked up, they are predicting 18 inches up there for her. We only got 5 inches, but the wind made it drift huge. I love Cockers, I used to have one a buff male akc and he was a sweetie. He died at 12, tho. His name was Chevy As In Chase.
Brug room is holding it's own here..

Hamilton, OH

Good Morning everyone
last night our electric went off, from 6 pm till 9pm, man it started too get cold, so I went too bed early, we got the ice storm
they predicted, the ground hog didn't see his showdow, so it's suppose to be an Early Spring, I know the saying, if he doesn't see his shadow it's 6 weeks till Spring, if he see's his Shadow it's 6 more weeks of Winter, for us it's 58 days till spring
Karen, did you lose your electric last night? I hope you didn't
Ken, if you have too go too work, be careful, I am so glad I get too stay at home, Retirement has it's advantages
Gordon, I am hoping you don't get the kind of weather they are predicting for your area
Debra, I just love your Brug room, after they install my windows the 9th of February, I will only have 5 left then it's done, Yippee, today I start feeding my Brugs, getting them ready for Spring
Retta, I think all of us are ready for Spring, enough of this snow & Ice

I am not even going to open the hoophouse door, I am afraid of loosing to much heat. It is 16 this morning and is supposed to get down to 10 tonight. With winds of 35 MPH it is feeling too much like Ohio or Maine.

46 days until Spring and 41 days until average last frost.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Debera... welll here they are... they are a week old today... 5 in the litter // all AKC coccers... and her Bengal Cats are all TICA & CFA certified.. put in your order .. alll of her dogs are well mannnered as well as being oh so cute..

Don't pay the ransom ..... I've escaped! Just home bound thanks to the blizzard! Not going to warm up until Saturday, then they call for 38. Last Saturday we were 76! Lots of single digets and below zero double diget wind chills. I'm hunkered down in the house with the fireplace going. Made 14 ws containers, just trying to decide what to put in them.

Anyone up for skating? My 'cement pond' is ready!

Karen, I was wondering about you also.I just heard on the news that there are still "10's of thousands of Hoosiers without power".Ours was out from 12:30 yesterday afternoon, until about an hour ago..Thanks goodness we put that space heater in, on the sunporch! We shut off all of the house, but the kitchen, bathroom and one bedroom , and managed to stay toasty. We are still under snow emergency, tho....everything is covered in ice, but at least it has stopped
Elizabeth, I'm so glad that the groundhog didn't see his shadow...I'm so ready to get out in the yard and putter around.I know all of you are!
What a welcome sight those blooms must be, Debra! I don't have a durn thing blooming right now.
Crit, beautiful fireplace! I have WS a few containers, too and have a few more to go...just not enough room for everything under the grow lights.I found several new perennials that will bloom from seed the first year if started early enough, so that is mainly what I have under the lights, right now.
Gordon, those puppies are so cute! We used to breed great danes, and I always had a hard time cutting loose of the babies when it was time, but 3 full grown great danes were enough ..lol.Now, we have small dogs, but we still have 3..lol
Stay safe everyone.

Debra, what cha got growin', there? Are they brug seedlings?Whatever they are, they look very happy! I haven't started any brug seeds yet. I do have some cute little red dragon fruit seedlings. For some reason, I can't get a dragon fruit cutting to root.I have tried twice, and they got mushy both times. I have some brug cuttings in water, that I will be potting up as soon, as I can get to town and get some supplies.
Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Those are my Giant red tomatoes, Dee. One clump just graduated into some cups, can't wait to see them in the am.. LOL. I can't get a stictocardia cutting to root in water.. so I am trying the stick in the dirt method now.

Hamilton, OH

Well we now have several inches of snow on the ground and have been below freezing for three days now. I still have not opened the hoophouse and just pope everything is OK. Looks like it is goingf to warm up a bit tomorrow and be above freezing during the day, for the next few days. Then another blast and down in the low teens the middle of next week. The snow that is on the ground is on top of a thin layer of ice so I will not be going out for a day or so.

44 days until Spring and 39 days until average last frost.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Our Honda Parts truck is n't able to come in from Dallas cuz they can't get to work. My job as Customer Relations Manager just got a little harder with the weather in Texas.. Keep Counting Down, Ken.
Beautiful Kitty, Elizabeth. I like that name, Sepi.

Hamilton, OH

Ken, I just can't imagine having that weather in Texas, I am glad you're staying in, warm & safe
Debra, Thank you, I love my kitty, she's the best cat I have ever had
54 more days till Spring here, it was raining here this morning

Elizabeth

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

News just said our total snow so far is 17.6" with more on the way. We are already double what we usually get for the year! We still have NEXT winter to go too. This is a snowdrift on the gable end of my house.

I'm only getting local mail. No junk mail or mail from out of town. They said the mail was having a hard time getting around the country too.

Elizabeth, Sepi, is such a pretty, girl. You need to post a pic of the babies, altho, I know they aren't babies any more.
Debra, your maters are looking great.I usually only grow a couple tomatoe plants every year, because my hubby won't touch 'em..What's wrong with that man?..lol This year I am going to grow a couple cherry tomatoes plants for snackin' on, when I'm out puttering in the yard, and some kinda big one, for fried green tomatoes. I could eat those everyday, and never get tired of them!mmmm....c'mon summer!
I always forget what stictocardia is, and have to look it up.That is one nice vine. The bloom reminds me of a beautiful sunset.
Now, Crit, lets not even think about next winter...lol We have had a lot more snow than usual, too.Today it is almost a white out, and we are supposed to get 2-4 inches, with more coming tomorrow night, but I'm not gonna think about it...I'll be setting up another light table for some brug cuttings, and dreaming of summer..lol

It was 17 here this morning but already up to 35, Lord it's a heat wave. I am going to wait until it gets into th 40s before I check on the hoophouse. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the sun is shinning.

43 days until Spring and 38 days until average last frost.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

It's up to 30* here ..... and what's that bright light in the sky? Is that my sign to 'follow the light'? I can't go, I have too many trades to send and receive, and too many plants that I'm starting. I'm sure it will be gone tomorrow.

:-))

How about a couple pics to brighten the day? I've posted this one on other threads, it is one of my favorites! I love how the sun plays off some of the petals and the shade on the others!

Beautiful!
Dee, my service berry cuttings are budding. The little EE's are dormant now I think. I am re-arranging tonight. I found I have three Frosty Pinks, 6 Isabellas, and 9 Cherubs. Sheese! I gota get rid of them so I am sending them to Newbies.
I coulda swore Elizabeth wanted a Cherub or isabella or CG or all three. Did you want any?
I am sending Ken alot, I am picking out the ones I am keeping ( the trees)
and sending off the ones I don't want to mess with, but got them because I wanted to see the bloom. Does that make sense?
*sigh* Two Monster whites, Two Dolas, Two wretched messes. I think I lost Damien, not sure yet.

Hamilton, OH

Good Morning Everyone
Crit, that's more snow than we have seen, I feel for you, Beautiful photo's
Ken, it snowed almost all day yesterday, 53 days till Spring here
Dee, if the Kittens will hold still long enough too get photo's I'll post them, max weigh's almost 14 pounds, when he's fixed, I know he'll be a big cat, but princess is a small cat, they're 9 months old now
Debra, I would love too have Cherub, much later it's still way too cold too send it now, I am not sure of the temps right now
but when DH opened the front door too get the newspaper, it felt like we're back in the deep freeze again, I lost one of my favorite double pinks, it had a nice rootball, I don't know what made it just dry up from the top all the way down too the rootball, oh well I have a lot more, my Dola still looks good, come Spring I can send you clippings, if you want?
is anyone else watching the Super Bowl?

Elizabeth

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Debra,
Do you have the 3 that I requested from you that didn't take for me this time? I believe it was Monster White, Cherub, Kaitlyn(?). I don't believe I have Frosty Pink or Dola either.

I have a question. I started my brugs in 44 oz. styrofoam cups. Some are getting really big (by my standards). How do I know when to transfer them to a larger pot, or should I leave them until spring and let them get rootbound good? I don't want to lose them now!

We finally got above freezing yesterday. DH got my car out of the garage, so guess I get to go to work tomorrow. They have decreased our chances of snow today, but still have a good chance Tuesday/Wednesday. Suppose to get back down in the deep chill again too. At least we got a little melting of this round.

If anyone wants a good laugh, go to this thread on youtube. It is my granddaughter playing with her Rat Terrier. The funniest part is at the very end when you see the dog look over the edge and you hear this soft little 'ow'. I didn't hear it the first time, I was laughing so hard. Heard it when I replayed it for DH. Be prepared, she is a "squealer". lol

We are heading to a friends house to watch the Supper Bowl, the only football game I will watch all year. It's just a reason to get with friends and have some fun. I am not much on sports, more into plants and birds.

It was 41 here this morning and most of the snow has melted. It was supposed to dip back down to the mid 20S, this is a welcome surprise. It was supposed to get to 48 yesterday but went all the way up to 56. I finally opened the hoophouse door and was surprised to see everything looking so good. I could not believe it. There are a few that have broad mites and need to be sprayed but it is not an outbreak. I started some cutting of side shoots of the trunk of Mon Amour yesterday and cleaned out some that had rotted. Last month I chopped up an Angel's Exotic and put the cuttings in three six-packs and it looks like all 18 are rooting. This is going to be a fun year for Brugs. I have several trades that had to go on hold when my Mother took ill and several people just rooted them for me and will send when weather permits.

Now for the bad news; the National Weather Service has predicted another Arctic Blast moving in Tuesday night and lasting until Saturday, with highs only getting up to 34 during the days and lows in the lower teens. This is really starting to get old. The one thing I love to do this time of year is work in the hoophouse but with it getting this cold I can't go in and out very many time or I drop the temps too much.

Here is one of my new pheasants;

Thumbnail by kenboy
Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Crit, I would check the roots before I stepped them up and if you do decide too, only move to a pot that is a little bit larger. It is real easy to over water if potted in a much bigger pot.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks Ken, so you think it is best to just leave them where they are until spring?

Is that a picture of a pheasant?

Council Bluffs, IA
