Good thing there is no Jon here!!

I have a brilliantly uncirculated 1878S Morgan dollar. Had it since 1977, but still is worth under $100.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Takes a long time, check the value again in 3011.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hee hee

Great info. They will get put away for now. There is so much to do. I'm doing what I can as I can.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

WSJ reported today that there are 4.7 job seekers for every job opening in the US. Wonder how often that 0.7 person gets the job.

Hey, I need everybody's 2 cents, please. Not literally, but figuratively.

Someone is offering $1000 to drive their car cross-country from NJ to Seattle. That money includes gas, and a plane ticket home. That's what they say it would cost for them to truck it. To my mind that's not enough. What would it take for you to drive their car cross-country. I was thinking about it, but not for that. How much do you think is reasonable to ask for that trip? I figured I could visit my son and fly home from Portland.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

what is the IRS allowing per mile for deductions?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

At least $2000. (food, room, airfare, gas - and that's still low because ~ $500 net is not enough for all the risks and aggravation).

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Darius, I don't know - how would I find out?

WC - I didn't think $1000 sounded like enough. Time and aggravation - driving over mtn. ranges in the winter - could be dicey.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

* 50 cents per mile for business miles driven
* 16.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
* 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=216048,00.html

It's aprox. 2400 miles one way, but you still have to get back home. The weather is nasty for driving this time of the year. Then, add in motels and meals for the driving portion of the trip.

Of course, seeing the country along the way is advantageous IF that appeals to you, and so is a visit with your son.

Unless you really relish a long arduous road trip, I'd tell them to truck it.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I've done two cross country drives and I wouldn't recommend it. I wouldn't even consider it in the winter, lots of unexpected detours and road construction from here to the West Coast too.. besides you'll feel like if you've been through the grinder once you get there and need a few days just to get over the drive.. not worth it.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I'm leaning that way, too. Even so, a visit with son's family would be nice, we ARE going out this summer. If we weren't planning that, I think I would do it.

Somehow, the price of gas here dropped a whoppin' 4¢. Yesterday, anyway. Who knows what today brings...

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

The stock of Whole Foods Market Inc, is up 10-12% today. Same-store sales were up 9% for their first quarter and the company says that consumers are showing that they are willing to pay more for healthier foods. Here's a story on it: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-09/whole-foods-shares-rise-as-natural-goods-grocer-boosts-full-year-forecast.html?cmpid=yhoo

I find the Whole Foods brand to be very interesting. A lot of people like to call it Whole Paycheck and many say they can't afford to shop there. But I think the existence (and success) of a place like Whole Foods poses an interesting question: are we willing to pay more for our food upfront and save on things like health care on the back end?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i do not believe WF sells healthier foods. they may offer some although much is just as bad as the a regular grocery store - it is a marketing ploy in my opinion for yuppies who drive a prius. Stores are located in those "types" of areas as well.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

They do carry more organic stuff than a normal grocery store, but you still have to read labels.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

My sewing is picking up. I have 4 coats with zippers to be replaced in right now. Lots of sewing tomorrow.

Cool! The bedspread and curtians I made a while back are holding up fine, thank goodness or I would be tempted to jump off the bridge.

They read the water meter in June - bill 68 dollars
They read the water meter in Jan. - bill 223 dollars

Did nothing different in Jan as in June. As for the gardens last year I did not care and did not even water them! go figure

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I posted on Wednesday that gas locally had gone DOWN 4¢... Yesterday (Friday) it was UP 16¢. Sigh.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Does that here all the time. I hate it!

Hard on the radio this AM that gas is the highest ever for this time of year.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

gas prices has just dropped here. Won't last long.

I dont understand why my water went up approx 4% in 6 months!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You mean 4X. Leak??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Was it estimated? or an actual reading?

Yes I ment 4X. We never saw a leak, Jim said if it was a leak we would of. Used 7100 cubic feet. Last summer they came and put in a new digital meter.

and dont forget - the last bill for 68 bucks had filling the pool and watering in the GH.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. 68 is pretty low for the summer. Mine is always over $200 in the summer.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Mine was high in summer too... until I hooked up a pump to our spring to water the gardens.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Just under $100 here for the summer, half that for the winter, my bill for this month was $54.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mine is a quarterly bill, not monthly.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Water bills make more sense to me if they are related to gallons used...

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I have a quarterly water and garbage bill and a monthly sewer bill.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I don't pay a water bill, sewer or garbage bill so I have no idea what 'normal' is. :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My bill tells you how many ccf and gallons were used.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

My mistake, it's Sept thru Dec..
30.41 CCF @ 1.0921 per CCF plus an $18 fee for having the water service in the first place. (lol!)

- those fees get you every time, I still can't get over the fact I pay the phone bill and have a charge for the dial tone! lol!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

We have a minimum monthly fee:
0 – 1,000 gallons, $17.17 minimum bill
1,001 – 6,000 gallons, $7.45 per 1,000 gallons
6,001 and over, $9.16 per 1,000 gallons

I'm sure there are taxes and fees added, but my sis takes care of the bills and I just pay her a percentage.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Gas @ $3.47, another house went up for sale here yesterday, they're selling the boat too.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

a house went up for sale one house down across the street - young couple - husband told me how excited they were to get the home and that they would be their till they died - have owned the home for 9 months - do not know the situation that caused this to happen -
