Coffee Break # 48 - Holiday 2010 edition
Thanks BA that's nice! I must admit we did make a good pie. I never made one at home though, there is just something about that stone in the oven that makes them taste better. If you have a 50lb bag of flour and a rather large mixer I'll give you my recipe! LOL
I wondered that too with the heels Allison, geez I can remember the jazz shoe with the small heel we wore one year and I was a nervous wreck!
Oh, was she wearing shoes???????
Victor!!!
Howdy, folks. I'm visiting family in NM. Coming home soon. DH and DS are still home- I'm free!! My nieces are so adorable!
Of course I don't follow the pack blindly, Victor. If I did, I'm sure I would have been at Walmart's door early morning on black friday. Can't stand that stuff.
Crazy stories this week!
Talk to you all when I get back!
safe trip home harper
Enjoy your trip Harper
Hope you have a great time in NM, & that's it's warmer & sunnier than here!
Two questions for anyone who has been to Cape May. Is stuff open and are there things to do for kids in late April?? Considering it for Easter break. Thanks.
I think ballooning would be appropriate for late April and also shopping for birthday presents for me ^_^
No thanks. I plan on staying thin.
snort
Double snort!
At that time of year I think it would be a great adult trip, but kids might be bored. Too cold to swim, doubt if they're into bird watching and enjoying the architecture of the homes. I've heard they have a great zoo, especially for kids, but that would only absorb a few hours. Could do lots of bike riding though! And shopping for Dnut ^_^
D-nut is distributing those presents to lovely DG members?
Glad you are having a nice get-away, Harper! Enjoy and have a safe trip home!
That was a snortable retort indeed!
Can you believe how late Easter is this year? It's 3 weeks later than last year!
Victor, have fun shopping at the card store!
Safe trip to you, Harper.
New TV, WC?
Louise, you can blame the lateness (or earliness, as is sometimes the case) of Easter on the lunar calender. The time in which it falls is based on that.
Karen
That's great, WC! Enjoy it.
Nice TV Wc Christmas gift?
Never quite got the concept of Easter, if Christ was born the same time every year why wasn't he resurrected the same time too?
Nice tree WC!!
Thanks, yes it was a gift from my DW's colleagues, went over to Manhattan to pick it up yesterday! (We still had RCAs with the standard screen they were new when they all became widescreen and I saw no sense in dumping two new tv's for a widescreen.)
- We'll spend the rest of the weekend decorating our little 6' tree! ☺
NY's Finacial District yesterday, the bldg with the crane on the right is the Freedom Tower under construction.
The Jewish holiday of Passover moves in the same way. The Last Supper on the thurs. is the Passover seder.
Victor, I've been to Cape May during April vacation several times....it was pretty quiet, some motels & restaurants are still closed, not many folks are around & it was perfect for me as I was birding...the Audubon Center in Stone Harbor...just up the road apiece....is open & the kids would enjoy it.
Ronnie, we don't celebrate Easter the same time each year because it's on the lunar calendar. The Jewish holiday of Passover moves like that likewise because of the lunar calendar. Here's an article that explains about Easter and the lunar calendar. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/the-big-question-how-is-the-date-of-easter-determined-and-why-is-it-so-early-this-year-798980.html . BTW, no one really knows what day Christ was born. People just chose a day that happened to fall around the time certain other things were being celebrated (solstice, etc.) and it stuck. Just watched The Real Story Of Christmas on the History Channel.

I came across this photo.
I used to give away my old and irregular pots. 'Mothersday Give awayThe note on the back said 1996 and the last time for free pots.
I remember someone coming with a truck while I was in the studio. They took nearly everything. I couldnt believe it.
I offerd this giveaway because I lived in an area where the neighbors were teachers and beginning professionals who couldnt have afforded the pots otherwise.
Some left a token dollar in my mailbox, others just left thank you notes.
That was enough for me.
The clod who perloined all of them has their own self to live with.
I doubt they ever are satisfied with their lives.
What a nice thing you did for the people in your community, JoAnne, and how horrid of the person to come and grab them all up. So greedy! You're right, they have their own self to live with. Some people just don't care, though, and continue on through life thinking it's okay to do things like that. So unfortunate.
Karen
You're a doll to have done that, JoAnn.....Karen's right.....some people think they're fooling the world, when they're really fooling themselves!
They live in their own hell.
One of my two most used sayings is, 'People suck'.
I'll start a new thread.
