Jnette I was lucky that Medicare kicked in April '09, my heart trouble became apparent in MayI didn't have insurance because of my 40 years of high BP and had been down sized because I was a white beard, past gray. Of course by then other medical problems had already made me a poor man. Only in America.
Plant Propagation part XIV based on my own experience
Mornin from the fearfull leader ....or was that fearless????
not much new news but the ole head still feels like pumpkin. I am going to try and steam it out with a hot shower its been long enough to make it go bye bye. I am tired of it and its silly little mess. I feel like the comercial where the big green guy has set up shop in the body and said I aint goin any where.....
well enough of that. I have not been thinking of much on gardening or plants except seeds to order for spring. Mostly staple items like corriopsis, shasta daisies and echinacea and then a few blooming low growing side items like rock cress and other flowers. I prefer the flowers 1st year seeds as I like to grow them and ship them not hang on to them.
You know I am down when I have 2 bags of soil and pots with plants ready to go into them and I am back in bed. well I hope it gets better this weekend
Dave
Larry you are so right. but heven forbid you are undocumented and poor here they will roll out the red carpet..... ooops sorry political stuff........ my father was down sized from his job last year 40 years as a goldsmith yet the new guy still kept his job. Its sad when the trades are lost because we refuse to pay for the experience of older workers.
I cannot imagine any temperatures below maybe 40. You guys must be reading the temperature gauge wrong. We are currently 58 and I am very cold. Heat is not on but I have a very warm throw over my legs and my laptop works like a heater. I also have socks on with my clogs.
Do you guys know the new style. Non matching socks. But of course the sock are multi colored prints. I did go to work one day many year back with one navy high heel and one brown high heel. Same style, just different color. My secretary never let me live that one down.
Welcome Wildcat. My DH is from Beaumont.
JB. Yes I would say you probably have a minor problem. Glad you took care of the rude employee. Usually happens with no one knowing except the customer. The customer usually does not speak up, just goes somewhere else.
Have a great day. Just got on to do some banking and dropped in here. I will check in later. Get warm.
Dave, you need to get your hands on that Nedi Pot. It gently forces saline warm water through one nostril and out the other. I got mine at Costco. It is actually a plastic bottle with a dropper in it that has an opening so when you squeeze it the solution flow upward into your nostril. The mixture is sodium and baking soda. My lung specialist told me about it. It really works. And you can get saline mist at the drug store and spray that. You need to get the mess in your head stopped. That stops the stuff in your lungs because it is getting there by sliding down the back of your throat. Hope no one is eating....
Sharon I am from Diehlstadt Missouri.
Dave most political talk is hyperbolic and worst than the twisting is that truth loses out, that raises my blood pressure.
Doctors ordered me to relax, DG has been my escape from the crazies. I almost never have internet fights anymore. I have been banned from several political web sites, never for foul language. I have a talent for making political enemys by pointing out hypocrisy and flip flops when the situation doesn't support their first stand taken. Ones who can communicate valid reasons why they flip flopped they can be forgiven for being a flipper even if I disagree. Otherwise just more lies.
I love to argue but it is not good for my pumping system because I take politics serious.
Mixing politics and religion together causes me to go internally bizerk.
I believe my BP has risen in the last ten minutes of my ranting.
Well we discuss very little here except gardening, our aches and pains and our families. Oh yes, the weather and our pets.
I will have to look that town up.
Netti pot... my DW has one and it looks horrid. I will try thr steam of the shower and go from there. so yes we have one handy just have to get me to use the barbaric thing. I have this thing about drowning... really don't want to ...drown that is.
Well, I'll tell you right now, I get enough politics, actually all I want and more, on TV. I come on here to relax. So, I will welcome you to our group if you leave your politics out of it.
Otherwise, I will go elsewhere.
Jeanette
I have noticed very few but there been polictical code words thrown around on rare occasions.
Don't take offense at my rantings. I am going to try to give up ranting for Lent.
I normally give up fresh, just picked Missouri grown strawberrys for Lent.
I am off to the cancer doctor for an invasive procedure while I am awake. I hope they give me a bullet to bite this time. No hope there, they are always out of bullets..
You are quite a tough and grateful cookie Wildcat. I am sad for your suffering.
JB You are right, thank God you are not in immediate need of something. Good grief.
Jeanette I will never air my politcal views here. I think must have not made it clear what I was saying. DG has a ban on disussing currents which include politics and religon I believe. Dave is poking fun at me I believe because of my rant about bringing politics to DG on another thread. A ban on political and religous discussions was one of the reasons I sent in my $20. This is the only website I have ever paid to use. I love it the way it is.
I do have to go but the DW isn't back from wherever she went. A 120 mile roundtrip to Plano during rush hour. I love it way out in unpaved road land, a long trip to nowhere.
No fun. I think the no politics is good too but really sometimes it is hard to not say something that shares my religious views in passing comment though. It does keep friction down though.
hellnz11 don't be sad for me. If you live through the suffering you get a new outlook. I am so happy to be alive I can't find the words to express how happy I am. I am not afraid of dying but being alive is a lot of fun. My chauffeured limousine has arrived I better get going before I am severly berated.
False alarm. My nine pound guard dog malfunctioned. He sounded the alarm for no apparent reason.
This message was edited Nov 19, 2010 3:14 PM
lol I do get that. Your joy shows. I am glad that despite dg's policy, they have the prayer forums still.
Get going so your are not chastised by your chauffeur.
Larry is it? Ok, every once in a while a statement might slip out from any one of us. But the rest ignore it because we respect each others views and feelings. I don't think, unfortunately, DG has ever been accused of banning discussion on religion, but however, I myself will not get involved in it.
Very sorry for your medical situation. Hope your treatment isn't as bad as you think.
Drive careful.
LOL Larrry is correct. we have corrisponded in the past and I was just kidding with him. but you are correct on no politics or major rants on religion. we seem to keep it on course.....
hot shower helped a lot. now hot tea and laydown under the covers. I think the thing is on its way out. if not I see my dr next week so she will most likely give me something to bust it out of me. She takes good care of me and does seem to guinuinely care (ok I can't spell) ...lol
most likely wont be back till tomorrow
night
Dave, I hope you are putting a shot of whiskey and some honey in that tea. Don't go half way. LOL Tea is good, but doctor it up.
Seems like everyone I hear that has the flu had a shot. With a needle that is. Maybe it was the wrong kind. LOl
Add another blanket Dave.
Wildcat you said " DG has been my escape from the crazies. " Well, you had better not hang around this forum if that is the case. We are one crazy bunch. We hate politics and politicians, doctors, nurses, snakes, and too many other things to mention on an empty stomach.
Anyhow, if you think you can handle this in your condition, WELCOME! I am the oldest and the meanest and the badest of this bunch. I will be the first, well maybe second, Jenette will be the first to tell you to get lost if you cross the line. Actually, we get censored and monitored all the time, so the ADM will get you before we do. LOL. Sorry to hear you are going for a CA test. Hope all turns out well for you. You just missed my stress test, that was 10 days ago when I was having my panic attacks. These guys all hung in there and gave me support. We are a close knit loving group if you do not push our buttons. Right Gang????? What do you propagate, Wildcat? What is your favorite?
I live about 25 miles from Trenton, NJ. How about that?
I am going to start digging a hole inside the barn so when it snows I can crawl in and just hide. Can you imagine me in a few weeks if it snows.................I do not even want to think about it. I can not even say I would rather have the 90 deg. heat because I would not. This summer was a kicker.
I got an order today from a new member of DG for four plants that I do not even have for sale yet. I have them listed but the quantity is "0" so I do not have to relist them in a week or two. I got back to them and told them the plants are not ready yet. That is the first order I have had in weeks. Things are really slow.
I got stuck for $6.00 for additional postage from my last customer so I am going to give them a piece of my mind and block them from buying again from me. Who needs that crap? I do not mind giving things away, but I hate when people try and beat me out of money. My money button was pushed on this one. LOL
Must go for a walk. It is a beautiful day here and it gets dark so early now that I need to walk between three and four to get my exercise in.
Talked to another tree farmer and he made some wreaths from live trees already and in two days several of them had no needles on them. He should know better because it was so dry and hot this summer, the trees will not hold their needles for very long this year.
I do not recommend putting up trees too early this year unless you know they have had water. Our cut trees will be cut the day before we sell them and we will be buying from a farm that had more rain than we did. We should be o.k. with the cut trees I hope. We lost so many baby trees it will cost us twice as much this Spring to replant.
Dave, I hope you are soon feeling better. Several people around here have the flu , none of them had the shots. Of course, I had the shot and got sick from the shot. I can't win. LOL Hugs. JB
I'm off, take care. Hugs. JB
Ok Wildcat, guess you can see these people try to sooth the harshness of my mouth. I really am not a b****. Not very often that is, but I do not want someone causing our group to break up. That has happened before on a truly fun and good thread. A lot of good people left DG over it and we lost a lot of friends. All because of one person.
So, we are all very protective but will welcome almost anybody if you behave yourself. LOL This is a propagation forum where Dave TRIES to teach us what he has learned himself. Sometimes we have a difficult time getting it so we just buy plants from him. Much easier. LOL
But, we all share what we have when we can. Seeds, cuttings, etc. Right now I have something I would love to share with you all, It has been snowing off and on all day. So, as soon as it piles up enough I will send you all a shovelful of snow to get your own snow storms started.
How about that?? Well, I have started washing my walls so guess I had better get moving. I see that darned sponge is not doing a very good job by itself. ttyl
Jeanette, you have already sent me enough snow. I for 1 decline your kind offer. They are now saying 1 -8 inches by Sun. Morning. Maybe I can send some back to you. Don't forget, I have a 300 mile roundtrip comming up on Mon. Everyone send a little wish for cleared roads for us and Mr. Purple.
I do agree with the others, Wildcat, no politics no religion, and we will welcome you with open arms. It is a tight little community here, and we all have each other's backs.
ttyal, Lee
Well Larry, welcome to the "Real" world of the very strong females. Dave loves us but he dares not to. I basically said the same as Jnette, just more subtle. It is usually the other way around. LOL.
I got off the couch to do some house work and lasted aboutm10 minutes. I guess I am down for the rest of the day.
I think I will read some of my book and play some Suduko.
Later friends, Sharon
Oh my, another photo of Hannah. This is the apron her boyfriend gave her as a gift. She is a very good cook.
I am fighting an internet addiction of arguing with whoever says stupid P&R stuff. Like when I kinda quit drinking, couldn't handle the alcohol, so I gave up happy hour.
I have an addictive personally, when I decide to do something I do it until I burn out. With the plant addiction at least when I burn out on gardening something visible may be left. And THEY can say that crazy old man planted all that flowering stuff as my ashes are blowing in the wind.
Anyone want the movie rights?
Larry ~ I suppose you will just fit right in here with us "crazies"! We are all a bit wacky in one way or another, and are getting older by the minute.
Dave ~ Why don't you get some seeds on some of the seed exchanges? There is a good one still open at that "other place"..... ( I hope you feel better soon!)
Sharon ~ Good, you are not going to try and finish the garage quite yet. Wait until you are better. It is now raining, and snow has been predicted by Sunday for this area, even as low as Placerville. It's still warm, tho', it's just 45° now, it may get colder tonight. ( I hope you feel better, too!)
Dawn ~ How is your weather, now?
JB ~ I once had to do that similar deed of reporting some office help to my doctor. Since I have been seeing him for over 20 years, it was an easy choice for him. I sent my mom and my MOL (when they were still alive), and other patients as well. I doubt that he takes new patients now. We are all happy that you are OK!! (Maybe you had better stay inside when it snows.)
Lee ~ You live in zone 3! 'nuff said! (Jeanette will do anything to get rid of snow, do you blame her?)
You'll probably notice that those of us who live in zones 7 and 8 will complain a lot during the wintertime about the snow and low temps. I, personally, was raised in Southern CA, where the visit to the snow was a treat, but it did not visit us, well except for just once, about 1/2" which melted quickly, but was ever so surprising, though we did have hail on occasion. So it has taken me quite a number of years to realize to change the closet to winter clothes, in layers. I must have at least a dozen cotton turtlenecks....etc...
Anyone in any seed exchanges?
~ Evelyn
Colchicum speciosum now in bloom...
Howdy will have to check out the seed exchanges I totally forgot about it.
I will answer the unanswered question about Larry as i know this one. He likes growing crape myrtles. he has a new white crape myrtle that is a ground hugger. I can't wait to see it when its had time to grow. He grows a lot from seed he collects. why do I know this.... well you all know how koo koo for ko ko puffs I am about my dwarf new orleane's CM. I started working on one as a bonsia with some copper wire and rocks to get some of the libs to do what I want them to do.
Ok Evelyn you been holding out on me with the neat fall flowering plants???? I will have to investigate more closely. I have some that come up in the summer and later spring but nothing that does this in the fall. I am assuming they are bulbs????
have a great night
Dave
Dave ~ Yes, you got it! It is a bulb. Though it looks similar to a fall crocus, it is not a crocus at all. For info on it, go to: http://www.mzbulb.com. Not sure if it is listed in the online catalog as it is only available to order for a very short time in August.
Sharon ~ The weather people got it wrong this time. It is already snowing!
And on that note, I will say "Good night!"
Morning, it is cold and sunny here today. Hope to get some things done for the Christmas Shop. They are working in it now, but I am still getting animals fed and taken care of. LOL
There seems to be some activity in sales just now, mostly people wanting prices, etc. Money is really tight and with the holidays coming it will be difficult for many families I am sure.
I did some online shopping myself yesterday and will do more today when I get tired of working. I went to the chiropractor yesterday and had my neck put back in , I had such a pain in the neck, I thought is Jeanette but it turned out that my neck was out of wack. LOL
It hurt last night but now it seems better just a bit stiff.
I must have slept on it wrong. I have had pains in the neck before, but most of them had two legs.
Be back later, Dave, get up and get moving. The snow is coming our way so these ladies tell me. Thank God I am the last to get it. It already is in NY state. My friend had a dusting...........no one complains more than I about the weather and several other things. LOL I love to hear myself complain. It is like an enema to me, really makes me feel good. Gets your mind cleaned out.
I wish I could make seeds grow like you guys do. I would love to be able to plant them. I planted those last Spring and got four plants out of hundreds, then the frost killed those four plants. I actually got NOTHING from all the seeds I planted. How can that be? JB
Be careful driving out there where it is snowing. That really frightens me. Ice especially.
Hugs. Stay warm and safe.
Sharon, my question is very simple. Where did you put all the stuff? Did you send me that mulch? Looked like "Bloom" bags. Those plants looked like Oleanders. Are they doubles? And are you going to send me one? LOL Am I in a begging mood today? yes. I have white frost everywhere. Wish it was white snow for insulation for the plants. I lost 4 roses last year because we didn't get any snow and the ground froze for such a long, long time.
I have received plants packed like that, but they had to cut them back so bad to fit the tops in the packing that they were all hacked up. You see, they don't start plants later for the colder zones so are sending almost full grown plants. From the East coast.
But yes, they do transport nicely even coming from that far.
JB, THAT WAS ME, HA HA. I was sticking needles in that doll. Gave you a pain in your neck? Well next time it will be lower.
Gotta go make some more dog food. ttyl
Jnette, you have a good eye. Yes those are double bloom oleanders. A DG member sent me about 20 cuttings I think I have killed the majority. Yes that is Bloom. Part of it is mine and the majority is Association's.
I have a 3 car garage so everything is moved to a one car side so DH can get his car in the garage and some of the items were placed back. My car is parked in the driveway.
So Dave, how do you know Larry? Did you warm him about your "lady" friends?
Evelyn, those are pretty. They look similar to a rain lily.
JB, I saw that coming from Jnette.
Jnette, do not even come close to thinking about painting. It will kill your back, your neck and your legs. A professional painter would come in there with a scaffolding.
I am inside today to do some cooking and cleaning. To cold and windy to be outside.
I have beautiful roses blooming so I am going to go cut a bouquet. Some cannas are still blooming. But in two weeks they will get cut back and then dug for thinning. I never did get my winter garden planted. First year that has happened. But it will give the soil a rest. I have three large bags of very small leaves I am going to spread on top on veg garden area and cover with MG garden soil.
My cold/flu is much better today. Gardeners were here yesterday and lead guy was getting it so whatever it is it is going around. I did have my flu shot about 4 weeks ago. Vern had his when he was in the hospital. Probably caught it at the doctor's office.
Later today I will take a photo of semi finished 1/3 of garage. I started cleaning out the irrigation shelves in the cabinets and getting all those items sorted and place in different boxes. I have three boxes for irrigation. One for items I use all the time. One for items I use occasionally and one for items I might use once a year.
With Vern now on the road to recovery, maybe I can keep everything organized. And I need to learn how to say NO.
Later friends. Sharon
Did anyone else notice that Sharon was fooling around with the Gardner and got his cold?
Shame on you and then you gave it to your husband. What a fickle pickle you are. HA!
Dave..............do you have a Gardner? Where did you get yours?
Oh God, I need a drink. I have not had any gin or wine for two days. I am trying to loose weight before I go to the Cardiologist..........I miss my booze. WAAAAAAAA!
Gotta go, my dears, I am going to look in the yellow pages to see if there are any Gardners in my area that advertise "fooling around" in addition to their other duties. Nite all. Hugs.
JB you are talking to ice rink specialist here. we get more ice than snow some years. we are getting mostly cold here some low 60's but the nights are chilly.
not much to add today. finally brought in the banannas. they seem none the less for the weather.
My parents found a home depot selling its JM at 75% off. we ended up with a coral bark, 2 distectums (I think thats its spelling...just too lazy to look it up) in 5 gallon pots and I got another one in a 2 gallon. the 2 gallon was $7.50 after the markdown. the coral bark was $15.00 and the distectums were 22.50. I could not believe it. well it turns out the cashier marked them down with out authorization... the nursery mgr was not a happy camper when my dad went in to fix the error on his ticket. she took the 90.00 ones and cut the price in half and then took off another 25% which is wrong in math. it was suposed to be half of half. had the cashier fixed the error then she would not have gotten in trouble but we had to go to the service center to get the $24.50 back. I am watching for the local huge garden center to do their generate sales in the frozen pits of february. last year they did a 75% off their best specimines. I am hopeing to load up on them this next frozen sale.
I hope everyone is haveing a great day. my almamater won against Kansas.
Have a great evening
Dave
LOL as if I would run them off the first time they started to do something. It seems most gardeners here thing running a lawn mower weed wacker and edger makes them a gardener. besides I could not afford one.
Jeanette: when you get the freezes before snow does the temp ever go above freezing??? I ask this because we deal with the dry freeze here a lot. its all about keeping the plants properly irrigated. Its really tough in the winter because sometimes the window to water is but a short time span in one afternoon. I try to get out and water when the temps climb above the frozen hell.
have a great weekend
Dave
