well I have the package, and I have to check out my paints, some have not been used in ages and may be dry. will do so before work tomorrow.
Betty I did check the wrapping and there were no instructions in there anywhere :(
my days off always change, and my schedule is opposite most of yours....so if you post instructions, I will follow along. and ask questions ( if need be) I can sand then do the base coats tomorrow night, after work...
can't believe you did not get my card yet!!!
4th Annual Daves Garden Christmas Craft Workshop!! pt.2
Iam going to go paint in 30 minits.... iam open to what ever Iam fairly flexable ..
Going to buy paints this afternoon. I have a crazy schedule so will do what I can and ask questions if necessary, but probably won't be able to be online at a "session", so pick what is best for the majority or what is best for you, Betty.
Used the Sear's multi tool to sand all the pieces. What a beaut, just brilliant! The more I use this tool the more I love it. The absolutely best tool available for cleaning old grout to make old tile look new again. Did the entire bathroom floor (tiny mosaic tiles), took forever but looks so fresh and new. Saved a ton of money.
I bought paints and brushes. Almost done sanding. Is there a picture of the extra snowman? All done?
Lee
What brand of paint brushes do all of you use? I used mine twice and they're falling apart :(
I go cheap. And in a large mixed bag.Sorry no help but usually get from craft store . Last a long time .
I got a mixed bag at the craft store too,yes I had 1 that is shedding a lilbit...
I use the Craft Smart brand at Michaels. They are inexpensive, and come with 3 different sizes for $3.99 I think. I get the yellow handled with the brown bristles. They are the best I found for an inexpensive price....they are in the isle with the craft paints.
LOL Stacey I have yellow handled ones, Craft Smart by Royal, but mine have black bristles. I need to go get white paint, I'm out, and I'll look at what they have.
Not sure why I keep losing this thread..yikes, will have to just check on it doing manual clicking..lol
Thunder, your envelope did come in, Cathy went to the post office on Friday and didn't visit until last night!
Mittsy, girl after my own heart..tools/tools/tools..
Quite a weekend, buy Friday night cutting Santa Wreath holder for 4 (mega cutting) then a full day with friends painting and chatting, then just ready to settle in for the evening and Cathy dropped in..This morning before 9a.m. my girlfriend Ann who is dealing with a very ill hubby (cancer) needed someone to gab with, sit, have time for herself and recoup before going home so she's just left and I haven't even been grocery shopping as yet, best I go do that..
Will post close up of snowman I cut for you this evening..if you want I'll mail you a pattern tomorrow..
As for our project, got to get to the Dollar $$$ to find something suitable for hats, perhaps I'll motor on into town before I go grocery shopping here in the village..
Betty those are so cute!
Saved that picture to the desktop of my computer. Will be a lot easier for me to find when I get ready to start. love, julie
Yesterday morning I tipped the edge of the base green. Betty, did I see bits of white textured paint on those trees? I'd thought about using some too. Only problem here is we only have Wally World and last I checked, the row of textured paint was empty. Is there a household ingredient you know of that would transform plain acrylic paint into textured?
Here's my two cents worth on brushes, whether you're an avid painter or a casual one like me. Buy the best brushes you can afford. Don't load paint past the ferrule, clean brushes thoroughly after using, pat dry on a towel before you store them, and they'll last for years. It's true I haven't painted much the past few years but still have brushes well over 10 years old that still look close to brand new.
Fruit, I totally agree with you one the brushes!!! I have done very little painting in the past ten years, before that I did it all the time!! checked on brushes this AM. they are all in great shape..paint however....is not :( so I had to buy some new ones today...I am hoping to get up early enough to do my base painting before work.. on that note ♫ ♪ it is time to try to get to sleep, so I can wake up and paint!!!
Betty, love it!!!
if You can just post a picture of the other snowman that will probably be fine for me, I have an idea I think I want to do with it, but I need to see how it is "supposed" to look, before I can decide if my idea will work!!! thanks!
FOTV, there should have been a little white container in your bag of goodies of snow, hoping it didn't dry out, please check??? hope I didn't miss putting one in your bag..
For the Christmas tree snowman project, you could even use sponge brushes, no detail so it wouldn't be a problem..a liner would help do eyes, mouth though and again you could improvise..
Oh how sweet! Just checked, Betty, and the little pot is there. For some reason I thought it was just paint. Thank you for the reminder.
Betty that's cute! That gives me some ideas... I need to get a how to paint book.
Had hoped Susan that I didn't forget, was a bit tired when I was bagging up..lol
For the 2nd project, yep, few little branches and you'll have a pretty piece; star can be painted along with wording or if you are near a Michaels a rusted star or wooden star would add the dimension
Adding dimension ... really like that.
could probably get those little signs at Michaels too???!! I know they used to have stuff like that?? have not looked at any of their wood stuff in a very long time!!! My Pot of snow is fine!!
a toothpick could work for painting eyes, nose, mouth.
Betty that is a different photo of the 2nd project, than the other one you showed??? didn't it have a tree on it???.....could you do another photo of that one???

I'm glad it didn't harden Thunder, not much in it but plenty for what you will be doing..silly for you all to purchase a large jar but for a little amount.
Most likely Michael's would have them..or something close enough that you could improvise IF you like having family name, could even get a little wood piece and have snowman or lady carry it
Hmmm.. guess I need to make sure that I'm keeping up with this thread.. so I'm supposed to open the package now??? LOL!!!!
Reminds me of a conversation we had not too long ago about people who start things and don't finish them.. but in this case, I haven't even gotten to the startin' yet!
In searching through my paints I found "Sparkle" with hologram flakes. I tried it on the base and snow family. Like the effect. Very subtle.
Michael's doesn't have any little signs like that unless it came in with their Xmas stuff.....trying to remember any little pieces of wood....might be one in a package with the green tops....
Hello Betty and all!!
OK, I am ready to start the painting! lol at least the base.
Found my green, it's a medium foliage green, I think will work nicely.
And for the off white, I have vanilla! found the red and black...And Last year I purchased some nice paintbrushes!
So i think I'm set to begin...
Great idea with the baby socks for hats!!
LOL, I played with the pieces, setting them up this way and that...And got an idea for my little scene.
Oh and then rummaging through all DH's stuff, I found Stain!! Last year I just painted the under part brown.
It's been fun to come to the workshop and see your all excited.
Happy creating.
Morning everyone,
Sitting by computer should anyone need me...lol..
Judy sounds as though you are ready to sit and do some painting, doesn't take long and yes, changing the design re positioning can take longer than painting
To make things easier, after painting put the screws into base and tree just don't put it tightly, then you can just angle them till you find what you like..
Thunder, no same photo...
Mittsy, flakes sound wonderful, anxious to see all your projects..plain wood can indeed become pieces you'll gladly give as gift or keep for yourself to enjoy..
I have lovely green trees, and I am on my way to paint all of the white parts now!! anything further at this point???
do you have white or off white Thunder?
After painting the entire base you can paint edge of base (most visual part of the base, see my photo) same color as trees and then when completely dry you can sand off some of the edges of trees/base and snowpeople...
I am using white. did the edge of the base already. I did my edge brown, going to see if I like it that way??!!, figure if I think it is too dark when all is complete, it will be easy enough to go back and paint over it with green!!
now I am REALLY off to paint....
Sounds as though you are well underway...you are ambitious today..lol
wish I was painting right along with you
paint is drying, got to send an e-mail to my Momma, then I am going to do some sewing, then some more painting!!!
Betty, I certainly wish you were here to paint with me...I bet you could teach me some great tips and techniques!! I am used to following a pattern, so this is very different for me............snowman faces freehand!!!! will be interesting., to say the least.
Too cute, guess we're both into the holiday spirit, I've spent all night wrapping gifts, would still be going but ran out of Christmas wrap..
Got to say I'm not going to be tired this year, promised myself the weeks before I'd have my feet up and enjoy all what Christmas is about..this year is the year I'll do so!!!
Imagine that
OOOO-I see mine in that pile;)LOL
lol, maybe!!! maybe not!!!
Santa's work elves aren't allowed to tell
OOH Betty Iam hoping for you !!!!
If I know you Betty, there will be at least one more thing you have to buy or make!
Morning everyone!
Look at all those gifts! I think I say that every year lol. So yesterday it was 80* in my office and today it's not even 65*. bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You sure do know me Lindakay, yes, all the main gifts for my family have yet to be purchased, will do that over the next few weeks..
It's really windy here Crissy, temperature right now is 41 but rather than get warmer through the day they say the temps will drop, so perhaps same for your neck of the woods..
