Getting close to T-day. What are your plans? We'll be hosting again. Not too many. Just both sets of parents and a couple more.
Coffee Break # 47 - Getting close to turkey time
hope we end up hosting this year.
Yes, I'll have my sister, Mom, & cousins....brother & sil if the weather is too bad for them to get to Rochester. Victor, glad to hear your Dad is doing so well! About the hot dog....if a parent (especially a Dad) told me about, I think I would be totally nonplussed!
She did seem genuinely shocked.
My daughter just looked at me and said "it's a hot dog" yep, it is....only you Victor!
Hubby's dad, step mom, sis and bil are coming over, we'll be smoking that turkey outside this year, had it that way once, they BEST turkey we ever had.
Deep-fry??
On the drawing, small kids will hopefully not think anything of it. My son did not and hopefully none of his classmates did either. But give that to 9th graders and I think there would be a different result.
Well hopefully the work is different in the 9th grade and won't be using the same worksheet LOL
Depends on the school! 6th grade work is often challenging for some 10th graders.
I'm planning on staying home as usual for thanksgivings, nice & warm, going to buy some film noir classics from Amazon.com to fill in the idle time and make sure I have popcorn.
I remember one Thanksgivings I was in VA in govt. training, DW came to join me and we had the hardest time finding a place to eat dinner! Nothing was open on thanksgivings day! Finally we took the highway and about 25 miles away we found a Denny's. I thought man! I wish I was home so I could just have a decent meal!! - ever since then I found a new appreciation for being home for the holidays..
For the weekend I'm hoping I wont have to go visit the in-laws since I just saw MIL last week. Otherwise I'm hoping for heavy rain & wind that following Saturday morning through Sunday noon. Weeee!
"The Big Sleep" is not only film noir, but a gentle way to end Turkey Day!
That sounds good! A little Bogie with some Sterling Hayden & some Ida Lupino and I should be good to go!
A film recommendation, it's not classic film noir, but it's in black and white from the '60's:
"The Americanization of Emily."
I never saw that one.
Me neither, every time I see Julie Andrews I think of her jumping around in a field singing that sound of music song..
The film is very interesting (sometimes a bit wordy, could have used a bit of editing/trimming).
This will not be the "Julie Andrews" from your memories, she does a very credible performance in a serious role.
If you don't find the film thought-provoking, I'll refund whatever you spent on the film at Amazon.com.
(This offer only extends to "WaterCan2" and "victorgardener.")
lol! Thanks BA, I'll check it out!
Only the 2 of us so we eat duck--DH does the cooking. He doesn't like turkey anyway.
Another hint for the "lazy man's....lazy woman's" great-holiday no fuss eating:
At the supermarket, buy Stouffer's Macaroni and Cheese (any size, but the bigger the better).
Microwave it 90 % of the way...don't use any effort, just break it up with a fork every once-in-a-while.
Then dump it into a metal pan, and put any bread crumbs/cheetos/chips on top, under the broiler....
Add some meat and a bit of salad, and watch a great film.
Awe Victor, you started the thread with my Grandson!! LOL
Thanksgiving will be here, I do all the cooking except for a pie or 2 and the deviled eggs.
Oldest DD Nichole brings the deviled eggs, the other 2 DD's each bring a dish or dessert. There is usually at least 15 of us (immediate family) and a few others here and there.Sometimes we have 25, it reminds me of when I was a kid... I love the holidays. ^_^
WOW 25! hubby would have a heart attack.
wow I wouldn't be able to sit all those people in my house Celeste... 15 - 16 pushes my max
Thought I would chime in here.
I have rented "Cover Girl" Rita Hayworth in color a-la - 40's.
I remember seeing it first time in the Strand movie palace.
Everyone will go to DD#3 . There will be 11 or so. with grandkids, husbands and sig.others.
Turkey, mashed potatoes etc. Then family games.Scrabble which I loose because spelling is so awfull and getting worse.
Yeah, but your painting ability is still great, who cares about spelling!
Had fun at the Army game yesterday, even though they were crushed.
Off to another wake tomorrow. My friend whose mother died in September to a fall, now lost his dad. He had been sick for a while so it was kind of expected, but what a tragedy.
Awful to loose both parents so close together.
Yes it is. Like my aunt and uncle last year. He died during her funeral.
Life throws those unexpected twists at you, you never just know
Yeah, usually when you think you got it all figured out and everything is planned and ready for retirement.
... Zap!! (lol)
That's exactly what my family doctor said when I told him I was retiring....next step, death. He's very cheery.
Was at a party in Jersey on Sat night. Great a capella doo wop group. They were fantastic.
My son's fil loves Doo wop!
My friend sings in a Doo Wop group, Pastime. Ever few years a number of the groups from NY, Philly, Balti, and surrounding areas, have an all day kind of concert. Last one I went to had 2 stages going non-stop, it was fantastic. His gift to my son at his wedding was the reception music.
Thansgiving will be here again, 10 or so of us since DD2 will be in Va. at SIL's family gathering with their brood. That's one day a year the kitchen is Hollys, If I want to make pies it has to be the day before. She will allow me to make the mashed potatoes, Josh to carve the bird, and possible DD1 to roll the cresents on the cookie sheet. LOL Ric
Prayers to all in the NE without power from the storm.
Yes, it's no fun to be without power. I'm hoping I'll be able to start the generator if mine goes out.
These guys are called Silk City.
Only entered a limited number of pics in the contest this year.
why?
Not sure. Just wasn't really into it. Did them last night.
Funny you should say that Victor, I wasn't into it either this year. Had 2 photo's in 2 different catergories that was it. DH & DD # 3 picked more and entered them for me. They are all my photo's, but I just couldn't get into picking.....so I let them. I'm not even sure what they entered and if they got them in the right catergories. LOL
You should of let the boys and Mrs. do it for you. Less stress and it will be a surprize if you took a ribbon!!
