Marilynne - maybe you need to tell Sears. that you are posting daily updates on Internet message boards. Their inaction certainly doesn't impress me.

Let's all take a moment this morning to remember.

It's an unusually bright Remembrance Day this year. More often it's gray and drizzly. Today it's bright, sunny and relatively warm. I'll pass on going to the ceremonies since I dropped a 3 pound weight on a big toe yesterday, but I'll watch them on TV.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you with failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The name of John McCrae (1872-1918) may seem out of place in the distinguished company of World War I poets, but he is remembered for what is probably the single best-known and popular poem from the war, "In Flanders Fields." He was a Canadian physician and fought on the Western Front in 1914, but was then transferred to the medical corps and assigned to a hospital in France. He died of pneumonia while on active duty in 1918. His volume of poetry, In Flanders Fields and Other Poems, was published in 1919.

OMG Ann, did you go and get it checked out..ouch and more ouch..

Carole, thanks for the link..2 Christmas's ago I bought a friend and her husband a motion tree camera from Bass Pro...she says it's amazing how much wildlife there is in their yard and didn't even know..

"M" Do you have a trailer??? I'd be putting them on a trailer, with a big yellow lemon painted on bristle board and saying '2nd set' and dropping them off in front of sears..enough is enough, you are far more patient than I and I have a lot of patience

Think most smaller municipalities have their ceremony on Saturday and/or Sunday prior to Nov. 11th. in order to schedule marching bands..was away this weekend and know they were at our legion..

Always nice to see..I'll key into Ottawa on my computer about 10:30 and watch..

As for the weather, it's cool and sunny!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

We had our service on Sunday, when the Legion sent representatives for a Colour Party. One of our young congregation read "In Flanders Fields" and she wore her school uniform. It was a very touching service, and our Pastor asked us to pray that the Government recognizes and helps those who have been in past wars and pass legislation for their medical care. They aren't getting the care they should...... for medical, living quarters, and other necessities. There is, in Canada, a need for the Poppy Fund to garner more $$ to look after the past and current soldiers......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Amen to that Susan..heard this morning that a lot are homeless..can't imagine that in this country that could possibly happen but apparently it does!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yes, unfortunately it does...... a lot of "deserving of better" people are homeless, but it's our shame that some of those are soldiers, past & present......

Victoria Harbour, ON

It is, to whom shall we express our concerns??

Ann, are you feeling better this evening..

Felt badly that you were unable to make the Ottawa memorial service, can't imagine how it must feel to be part of the crowd, hoping one day I shall get to see it.

Show is on tonight that is suppose to be a tear jerker, did I mention that, believe it's called
'you will never be forgotten' not sure on exact wording..will comprise of stories told by families about their loved ones who gave their lives for our freedom and how the families left behind manage on a day to day basis.' do hope I don't fall asleep before it's on.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Here I be ^_^
Lots to read .. lots to think about .. always nice to see that ..

I had Lorna into the INR clinic at about 1045 .. she was seeing the pharmacist around 11am, and, we ALL stopped and lowered our heads for 2 minutes .. it was if it was a 'given' .. just amazing ..

Ann .. it has been over a year now since that HUGE wardrobe fell on my toes !!! It was about 200lbs, smack on my toes .. still have no feeling in a couple of my toes ... can't tell you how much I empathize !!

I am DISTRAUGHT .. I could have said, 'disappointed, let down, angry' .. but .. distraught over the fact I have a NON functioning washer (dryer), works better for me right now .. I feel trapped .. stone walled ... LIED to .. I am getting NOWHERE fast, and so, I shall sit and wait for the 'fix' .. whenever that might be ..
SEARS has simply astounded me .. after YEARS of buying our home appliances, clothing, bedding and cosmetics I am faced with this ... I am sleeping very little .. and actually had CHEST PAIN once after speaking to someone who was absolutely SUB human .. kept expecting her to ask me if I wanted a 'ROCK' to wash my clothes on !!!
My Hospice client has been such a dear .. he just tells me to keep smiling ^_^
TRYING !!!!

Off to watch CORRIE !!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - speak to your alderman about the appalling condition that some of our veterans live in. Surely they know precisely what's not being done. There was a protest the other day, in Toronto, by Legionnaires. Actually, you could also speak to your local Legion - they will let you know who, in government, they've been protesting to (at what level, I mean).

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Marilynn
Take them back!! Do a refund. Squawk at the store you purchased it at. This is very poor service bar none.
Get your appliances somewhere else!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

And then write a letter to whoever is the head of Sears Canada detailing everything that has happened. And tell him you will never shop at Sears again!

I am looking after Montana( one of the Montana sheltiepoms) for a long weekend. He is smaller and shyer than Journey was and has some scars on his face but is a sweet little fellow. We received an application to adopt today- hpe it will work out.

Well .. it has been A 'day' !!

Travelling along a busy city street , cell rings, Lorna answers .... it is SEARS .. I pull over ..
'Ryan" tells me ALL my emails have been going to the FRENCH site !! Well .. I am NOT stupid .. a ploy is a ploy is a ploy !!
He wants to 'make things right' !! THANK YOU Ann for having me mention I am FaceBooking this!!

So .. I get home .. message on the machine from Sears Service Dept. I would hope all of you are sitting for this one !!
The parts to be replaced in the BRAND SPANKIN NEW Washer .. will arrive .. DECEMBER 13th !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOST IT ..
Called Customer Service and DEMANDED a new washer .. the agent on the phone was GREAT .. course I was in tears and FRANTIC !!!
SO .. as it stands .. I am getting Washer #3 soon .. sooner than Dec. 13 ~~
Do I believe all this ? Nope .. I have prepared for the worst, and I hope for the best ~~

I certainly will be drafting a letter to Sears head office Carol ..

MY goodness .. Montana is lovely !!! Such a sweet face ..

Took Piper's CONE off this afternoon .. am hoping I did the right thing .. he isn't bothering the operative area at all ..
He was making us nuts banging into walls etc ..

Hope everyone has a fab weekend

~M~

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Crossing my fingers for washer #3. Write that letter NOW. Actually, the advice above is good. Tell them to cancel the order and buy the washer elsewhere.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

wooo ooo - FB'ing it helped, eh? Good for you, Marilyn!!!!
French site, indeed - no, you're not stupid, and it obviously WAS a PLOY!

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Carol
Montana is soooo beautiful. I wish I could take long haired babies but alas my allergies would go bonkers.

Had a look in a fabric store today for some clearance fabric for you but only the expensive stuff at the moment.
Now that I know what to look for will be able to check on a regular basis.

Darn that Sears anyway. I was holding out hope that they would do the "right" thing. I have a friend who worked for Sears as a repairman for years then they moved the "repair business" to a 1-800 central location and things went down hill. After 25 years he has moved on to another company. Guys like him are gone from Sears and he cared about his customers and I know he went many extra miles to help them. If you lived closer I could send him over, LOL.

I can't believe the weather here, + 11 on Sunday! Wow.
Ann

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

It's +11 here too, Ann!!

Carol - have you tried Fabric Depot in the NE? They're off 32nd Ave.

Busy day today - I have a Story Time to tell the kids tomorrow, and I'm going to do it "fabric-related" of course LOL

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Well .. I MUST have hit 'someones' heart string !! Have had 4 calls and an email from Sears. The sales lady who sold us the set has been away .. I had spoken to a colleague of hers who pretty much told me she could do NOTHING for me .. so .. it was nice when Lori called and said she was going to 'make things move' .. I was out at the laundromat this aft and Sears Service called to confirm a new washer had been ordered and that there was some 'expiditing' expected ..won't hold my breath ... mayhaps there is a light at the end of this LOOOOOONGGGGGGGG tunnel ?

Slushing here today, now and flurries expected all night tonight. Doubt it will stay though as the ground is still too warm.

Enjoying the heat from the woodstove and taking some time to RELAX !!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend ..

~M~

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Good luck on the "expediting" of your washer!! How Dare someone be away when you need them to handle this?!?!?! LOL

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

HOORAH for LORI my Sears Sales lady .. she has done 'whatever', and it looks as though I will be getting a new SET of appliances, one step up the ladder .. I had purchased Inglis, these will be Whirlpool .. in actual fact .. Inglis/Whirlpool/Maytag are all the same .. this set just has a few more bells and whistles
Delivery date (woe is me) is to be Nov. 24 .. better than having parts arrive Dec. 13.
All I can do is think the good thoughts .. positive Karma and all that stuff .. have my letter to Dene Rogers .. CEO of Sears Canada, is on hold for now.
SO .. I may only have to HIT the laundromat 2 more times, maybe 3 .. YAHOOOOOO ..

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Marilyn - Nov 24 is much, much better than Dec 13th!!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

M dont keep that letter on hold- send it anyway- even though you get a new set he still needs to know the hassles you have been through!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I agree - still send the letter!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I agree as well. Send it!

st.george, NB(Zone 5a)

Yes I agree Marilyn you should send the letter - they need to know the trouble they have put you through but they also need to know how much of a help Lori was to you too.
I feel like I should be sending a letter too, to let them know after hearing about all your trouble that I will most certainly think twice before I bought anything from Sears.
Hoping the new set comes on time and is everything you wanted plus some.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Will re draft the letter today and make sure I include the 'above and beyond' efforts of the sales lady.

Right now though, we have a good 3" of heavy wet snow to contend with .. and, it's still snowing and blowing off good old Lake Superior. Just had the dogs out, and Piper wasn't quite sure what to do when he stepped onto the patio only to have snow beneath his paws, BUT, Lilly quickly showed him that you get to ROLL and PLAY in snow LoL
So, as i shoveled, they scurried/ran/and rassled in their compound .. kinda does a heart good to see 2 furries having that much fun ..

Sad news x3 yesterday .. a close friend passed away (he had been ill for a few years), still, his death was a bit unexpected. Another family friend dodged a massive heart attack by going to Emerg at the FIRST sign of trouble, he had angioplasty and is A OK .. and an acquaintance a few homes away is now in the end stages of his battle with cancer.
Deep breath here as I thank the powers that be, that all I have to complain about is a sore wrist from shoveling snow !!

Off to enjoy a well deserved cup of coffee

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, dropping in for a sec..

"M" sad new indeed, difficult losing a friend..you are so right, Ann was in yesterday and said that Mike was doing poorly and they received more bad news health wise, my aching knees and arthritis in my hands is very small potatoes in the scheme of things..guess we should be thankful for the health we have.

Love Montana, all I can say is I'm so very glad I don't live in your neighborhood because I could see myself with a house full of doggies..

June has same breed and lost one of hers this past year, if she were closer she'd be at your door..Montana sure would have hit pay dirt getting a home such as hers.

Sunshine yesterday but I had girls over for the day doing a project, left my outdoor work for today and it's raining so I've sat down, made a list of things I need, will shortly after watching Joel Olsteen at 9:30 be heading into a quick trip to town..

I'm in a few DG Christmas swaps, i.e. placemats and christmas sock so maybe today is an excellent day for sewing ..

Gab later..
Hope you have a sunshine day..

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Marilynn
Sorry about your sad news!

I love my Whirlpool front loading stuff!! I didn't get the bottom drawers but my hubby built a stand that puts them up high enough to be easy and low enough that I can still fold on top as I like!
I love the big opening on the front too.

Nothing worse than worrying about taking the roads in bad weather to wash clothes..they should have given you best in line for sure after all the aggravation you've had..

Daybreak out there, doesn't feel cold, each day we have without snow is a bonus..

Not sure what I have done, side cheek and throat are itching and swollen..been putting different salves but not helping..don't think it would be an allergy as it wouldn't last for a few days I'm sure..itchy like poison Ivy..

Well , better get a move on, things to do before setting out for work, lordy I'm tired..thank goodness work is my place of rest..lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Roads were horrifying here yesterday Betty.
I should say, the country roads, once we got to the townline the City had sanded and salted the roads .
Still, walking in parking lots etc was met with care, Lorna's first snowfall wearing her prosthesis .. so I pretty basically told her to stay in the car and babysit the dogs and I ran in to stores to do what needed to get done.

I see on CNN that Prince William has finally announced his engagement and upcoming marriage to Kate Middleton ..
Hard to believe he's 28 !!! Where does the time go ?
Gonna be another MUST WATCH wedding .. even though I am NOT a Monarchist, it will be quite the event I am sure, and many will flash back to Charles and Diana's wedding I am sure.

Sent off my letter to the CEO of Sears yesterday .. funny, I registered the envelope and the postal clerk said 'trouble with Sears' .. I said "yes' .. she grimaced and told me HER story re Sears and a pair of sox !!! Awful.

Spending the day at home (I think) always starts that way ..

OMG "M" was that snow you just got yesterday..yikes, hope it's not moving south..do know they say there is a rain warning, we're to get about 40 centimeters, sounds worse than it is when you convert to inches but still, a lot of rain, thank goodness it's rain and not snow..

Don't care what comes up this weekend, it's decorate with lights and christmas art outside, all else comes 2nd.

Did sit this morning and wrap 5 presents, figure if each morning I did one or two by Christmas Eve I should almost be done..lol

Was at the pharmacy getting meds yesterday, not sure why I've broken out with a rash under chin but I have, wouldn't you know they were playing christmas tunes..those poor sales agents, they sure must get fed up of hearing it after a few days..

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Winter arrived here overnight ( with lots of warning). I of course had an 8AM appointment for an ultrasound! Although it is only maybe 5 mins down the road from me I decided to be extra cautious, also dont have a garage. Slept in! Rushed outside and had to brush and scrape for about 10 minutes to clear the car then figured I might as well leave (since I was not allowed to eat or drink -) after the dogs were fed etc. and arrived just after 730! But- waited only 10 mins and the tech called me in and I was home about 5 minutes after my original appointment time!

Oh and today was the first test of my snow shovelling contract. $100/month - I heard somebody shovelling snow when I was awake early no idea what time but when I opened the door at 7AM to get the paper my sidewalks were clear right up to my fron t door. Good start. I am very picky about getting my walks cleared ASAP. Lots of foot traffic around here.

Staying home the rest of the day, probably sew some more dog beds, plumber coming to fix a toilet this afternoon ( flushing handle broke off) and Montana's foster mom should be back from Vancouver and pick him up.
Not walking the dogs this morning- too many people have not cleared their walks!

Supposed to be cold and snowy all week.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

My christmas lights ( LED ) have been up since end of october, on a timer of course for dusk till dawn. The xmas wreath is also on the front door

Mick

Victoria Harbour, ON

It was very interesting coming home last night, noticed that country folk on back concessions had Christmas lights on but the ones in town, well few and far between. Seeing lights and decorations out has made me want to get at it..will check what the weatherman is calling for this weekend, if a clear weekend then I'll get it done then, sure do wish it wasn't so dark when I get home, perfect for putting up a few lights and the deck tree..last year I wrapped about 10 large boxes with plastic christmas table designs to put uner it, looked so pretty, especially with snow on them...

Sure do hope no snow here until next week, calling for all that rain but don't see the sky getting darker!

OMG, please/please keep the snow Carole..the guy who plows my yard usually comes about this time of year to confirm doing my yard and getting $$, I was told it would be $600. this year for the season, starting to get high..I've a snowblower, should be doing my own except for the fact it's a long drive and don't know if I want to be doing it before leaving to go to work..

Glad you are staying in Carole..no sense going out unless you absolutely must...sure hope your tests come back ok..

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have all my extension cords and bases of some of the Xmas trees in place.Try to get that done while weather is still nice! Then I just need to pop the decorations on and plug them in. Except of couse for the big balls on the front trees- usually I am trudging thru a foot of snow to hang them! But I dont like to put them up early. I turn the lights on Dec 1 and off on Jan 6 ( 12th night)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

g'morning all - or should I say 'good afternoon'...... our internet was down for the entire morning and just came back up. After several hours of "working on it" I decided to call, and they said our area was not "down" so he checked and I guess he did something, cuz 1/2 hr later it's UP! I feel lost without my internet, cuz I can't get online!

Carol - glad you got through your app't so quickly! They say that the early morning is best for app'ts, and I guess you show it's true ^_^ Here's hoping you get good results.

I'm working on my mom's quilt, and have trimmed around the edges to even it up. She didn't do a terrific job of piecing it, and several squares don't match on the inside, so hope the outside is the best. I managed to find a beautiful backing for it that's nice and heavy (and cotton) so will work diligently on it for the next month.....

I've now finished 3 banners for Advent, and I don't think I'll do any more until later in the season (have to have some for Christmas Eve service though, and Epiphany... busy busy busy..... looks good on me!

Need to get a chicken in the slow cooker - chat atcha L8tr.....

Betty - still haven't heard.

Victoria Harbour, ON

One sure needs lots of extension cords when doing the outside decorations, I have one of those sound systems that has about 6 plugs where the lights go with the music, funny thing, went to the Liquidation store today to purchase a few more Ott-lites and they had 2 units there for $50.00 each, think I paid $149.99 so it's a bargain...

Susan, I always found if the top is off here and there it's best to tie it, that way it puckers somewhat, gives dimension and that way it takes away from being uneven...you'll have to take a photo and show us the finished project.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Ok - that might give me a quicker finish for a Christmas present.......

btw - composing an email to the company that hasn't gotten back to me re: the job.
Any ideas? I emailed them last Wed, and the Friday before that. The last time I heard from anyone was Nov 2nd, then the Reference check company contacted my references on Nov 3rd. I'm sure they've had time to send the results to the company, but I have heard NADA. I realize they may be in the midst of a move, but Really not happy with the lack of courtesy in letting me know what's happening.....
Any ideas re: the newest email? I don't want to sound petulant, but geeeeze!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

btw - made another breadmaker recipe yesterday, and it turned out!!! Ginger bread. It's a heavy bread, but slices thinly very well. Has ginger, diced orange peel (I couldn't find my grater), molasses, etc..... very tasty! I may make another one when this one's finished (maybe today LOL)

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are making me hungry Susan!!! I must not be adventurous because I stick to the plain white bread only, perhaps because it's non fail..

As for the e-mail, not sure what you could say..maybe it's wait it out and continue to look for employment elsewhere and if they call you still have option of accepting.
