Seeing the Rankin family was something I won't soon forget. I had a CD of theirs a long time ago called "North Country" and they sang a lot of songs off that. I have lost that CD somewhere. Think it may have gone somewhere along the way when a vehicle got traded in. Any way they sang a lot of songs off that and it really surprised me when I knew most of the songs they sang. We had seats in the balcony but the place was very small - only about 400 people so we looking right down on them - perfect seats, so much better than sitting on the main floor trying to see around the 6' tall man that always sits in front of me.
It was, to say the least - a "toe tappin" time!
What's Happening in your neck of the woods?
oh - the CD I lost was North Country! It was in a red casing, and when you popped it in the computer, it auto-played and showed pics of them and the area they lived in - I think they were all "stills".....
Welcome Mick!! You will find lots of help here and I envy you being able to see Ann's garden in person. I would Love to be able to see it live. Also there are some great Plant places down there.
I have been lurking but spending most spare time in my garden. I think this is the first year I have put everything away! The weather has been super.
I am doing a test to see if I can keep my "King Tut" overwintering as a houseplant. Will let you all know how I do. I let the frost hit it and have re-potted in mostly fresh soil so I hope no bugs came in too. All my Canna's are in my lovely neighbors basement cold room for overwintering.
Pleased to see Lorna is getting a leg up and one that will work better for her. Marilynne Piper looks adorable, cone and all.
Susan I will keep my fingers crossed for the job.
Ann those two years olds are usually in control of their G ma and G pa's!
Carol "nice panties" what a good idea! Any particular fabric you are using for the dog beds? Meaning if I come across any great deals and you need fabric, what should I get?
Growum we have found that our "Cleo" is happier with friends but that is easier with a dog that is smaller than a small horse. We are very lucky to be able to do this.
Betty , shopping baking or crafting you seem to do it all.
Bye for now.
The other Ann
Ann here is a sample of what I am using this year. I have 3 different camo patterns, and a couple with the dog heads and some other bits and pieces. I use fleece one side, denim the other and I only buy when I can get fabrics on sale -fleece tends to be on sale off and on all winter,m denim not so much so I buy it when I see it! Actually the polyfil is the most expensive part and once a month Fabricland has it on 50% off so I go buy then. This summer a friend donated a huge roll so I wont need to buy any this year. The past two years Fabricland had fleece in provincial tartans and they were really nice but they dont seem t have it this year. Too bad- they were quite popular and easy to sew because of the straight lines!.
YAWN .. what a night !!! Carol .. I am outta here this morning and headin for PetSmart .. lawsie !! Piper went UNDER the bed (his safe place) last evening, well, you can imagine the howling and screaming that ensued .. he got STUCK !!
Trying to get a frightened/groggy puppy with a CONE around his head out from under a bed is the LAST thing in this wide world that I ever want to do again !! I was in tears, Piper was a basket case .. all round bad deal !!!!
This morning he is banging into things and then looking at me with THOSE EYES !! SO .. Panties it is !!!
Laurie .. what a thrill to see the Rankins !! Closest I have been is 2 Rita McNeil Xmas concerts here in TBay .. I can imagine the music was definitely 'toe tapping' .. sorry to hear about Abby and the diarrhea .. but .. it does happen .. our furries just do NOT like change it seems ..
Kudos on the dry basement too .. have been watching the Weather Channel staff speaking of the rains down east .. awful !!
Annabell .. good luck with your 'King Tut' .. and congrats on your yard clearing .. even though I do bits each day .. I still have NOT put away one of the patio tables and a few chairs as the weather has been so wonderful .. +11C yesterday .. it was like September ..
So .. off to make a 'to do list' for the trip into the city ...
As an aside .. SEARS has decided that this Wednesday for the fix for my BRAND NEW machine was too generous, so .. ANOTHER WEEK !!! I AM FURIOUS and have SIX 1-800#s for Sears .. and each one sends you off to another .. tears shed are getting me NOWHERE .. so .. I am simply going to remain assertive and go with the flow ..
AND .. never darken the door at Sears again !!
Toodles
~M~
CAROL .. where do I purchase the panties ?
We have PetSmart and PetValu here .. all I seem to be able find are 'disposable diapers' or gear for incontinent dogs ...
~M~
Morning all, chilly here but the sun is out, excited about that..calling for much the same all week; if we can only get this weather until the end of the month it won't make winter so unbearably long! My son had his boys playing hockey about 100 miles from home Sunday, forget the town, said there was at least 1 foot of snow on the ground..not far from my neighborhood.
"M" don't think I would keep the washer/dryer, nope, would send it back even if it meant travelling a few hundred miles to get another. You've more patience than I for sure!
Greg and Kyle were over last night, imagine, had to bring a big light so they could work around in the yard, always busy weekends so this was their alternative in order to get more chores done for mom/grandma..they managed to put the travel trailer under the deck, all that remains is a few staples and heavy duty plastic to keep most of the snow away from it, did some work on back shed, put some muskoka chairs away, slowly but surely it's getting done AND before the snow falls. Am thrilled that the back deck is now screened in, no fuss and muss to winterizing; all my leaves are laying on the gardens acting as a winter coat, so I'd like to think, really need to get the plants trimmed and leaves raked...as Bernice across the street called Sunday saying her grandson (19) was out of work and had done her gardens I'm thinking of calling and having him do mine, no sense pretending that I'll find time to do it..money well spent I'd say.
Carole I miss our Fabricland, it was nothing to shop several times a week..can you believe even if I want threads I'd have to travel 30 miles to get it OR shop at Walmart for it, not sure if they even have quality thread?? more and more sewing centers are closing, seems only ones staying open are the high end ones i.e. $14.98 meter and they only carry fabric not supplies. How wide is the fleece Carol.. I got a fleece blanket in a DG swap last night..so comfy!
What a treat seeing the Rankin family, my kind of music
How's Lorna making out "M"??
You should be able to get them at any good pet shop. What is the gear for incontinent dogs?Probably a belly band and they dont work as the incision is usually further back.
Heres a pic of mine- can you print it and take to the store with you? This particularlar one has a brand name of Daba Doo.
Failing that are there are dog breeders close to you? I would think most breeders would have things like this as they often use them on bitches in heat.
Maybe somebody would lend you one!
Almost something you could make "M"..wish I had seen that when Ned went in, had to wear the cone for what seemed forever.
Carol - those look like they'd be easy to make/duplicate......
This sounds like a much better idea than the collar. Used to have one on a cat I had, and it was horrendous for him.
ooooops cross-posted, Betty
great minds think alike Susan..lol
gmta, f'sure!!
I'm sure it would.
The fabric is waterproof and there is a mesh pocket on the inside- you can put a pad in there for a menstruating female. Elastric in the part that goes under the belly and adjustable velcro tabs.
Belly bands are similar and just as easy to make.
What a good idea, Carol - never thought about a menstruating female. Just curious - what do these panties cost?
Well .. I am home with a package of DISPOSABLE doggie Pampers !!
Seems neither store had anything but that kinda deal .. so .. i went to WalMArt and looked at toddlers training pants (wouldn't be snug enuff) almost bought a pair of sleepers for an infant, would have cut the back off and the feet and used them as a 'pseudo' pair of PJ bottoms ..
Got home and am seeing a CHANGE in Piper !! He is managing quite well with this cone deal .. !!! PLUS .. as some of you might remember .. getting him to DO anything he does NOT want to do is pretty much impossible !! As i the leash !! So .. If I take the cone off .. and he EATS the Pampers .. that leaves me to struggle with him to get the dang cone back on .. so ..am going to try and weather this .. doubt I will .. but .. I will try ..
Thanks for all the suggestions, I still may need them.
~M~
PS .. Lorna is doing AWESOME .. she is doing AMAZINGLY well with the new socket .. sees the prosthetist on Friday and may need it padded as her stump is really shrinking again .. be nice when the FER SURE last leg with its fancy knee and foot are ready to be put in place .. perhaps prior to Xmas, or, in the new year ^_^
We sure do treat our furries well now don't we!!!
Prayers that Lorna does get her leg for Christmas..some ask for 2 front teeth but I'm asking for Lorna's leg..
LOL Betty - "♫All Lorna wants for Christmas is her last leg, please,♪ her last leg, please ♫oh yes her last leg please. ♫ All Lorna wants for Christmas is her last leg please, ♪so she can tap dance 'Merry Christmas'♫!!! " LOL
LOL ... she sure does want that FINAL leg .. so .. am thinking a letter to Santa may be in order ^_^
~M~
absolutely!! Do you have a fireplace you can send it up? If not, your local post office will do!! "Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0"
On its way ^_^

All you doggy lovers, thought you'd enjoy this...
Dear God: Is it on purpose our names are the same, only reversed?
Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?
Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?
Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a Dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?
Dear God: If a Dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad Dog?
Dear God: We Dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?
Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.
Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?
Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good Dog.
1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.
4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.
5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.
8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table
9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.
10. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt across the capet.
11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch.
12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.
P.S. Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back?
Good morning - here's a morning song for you - it's amazing what he does with his voice......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zQX2XqAE8c&feature=related
How blessed they are having such voices..true blessing from above!
Bettypauze.....Some people will argue that they see Cougars roaming around everyday waiting to pounce :-)
Betty - I read the comments about his voice, and I wasn't aware that Falsettos have a "breathy" quality, and that Contraltos are a more pure blending, but Now I Know! lol
You have singing knowledge Susan, I can only appreciate the sounds, not knowing which is which..but I do know they have God given talents...
Syndicate1- must have missed your name on a post, went to look for it in the addy and no could find...
When living on the farm I'm sure farmers said there were cougars, rare for our neck of the woods but not impossible..heard some sounds that would often keep me indoors..
No, Betty - it Wasn't my knowledge - it was the "comments" under the video that "twigged" me to find this info.
We have coyotes around here, glad we don't have cougars!!
People keep saying cougars...will have to go in search of info hmmm do you think I might have made that up??? too funny, often I'm telling Suzanne a story and she looks at me in awe, then I have to sit back and wonder, did someone really tell me this, did I dream it??? hmmm..then I'm really confused..
OK ladies I think this means the older lady Cougars not the 4 legged type!
LOL
Ann
Ah...that is the right answer.LOL
I was refering to the 2 legged kinds also, they are everywhere you look these days :-)
Mick
OMG, laughing so loud, I must be getting old if I didn't get the cougar part..here I was being ever so concerned..gee whizzz guess I can't be a cougar can I if I don't even know what one is right Mick? lol
Hiding my red face!!!!
LOL at the cougar conversation! Betty you after your story about the mailman you should be thinking cougar!
The draw for the trip to Jamaica was last night - unfortunately I am not going this time.
Awwww, know we were praying you would..do you know the person that did win?
LOL, I can see myself as many things but a cougar IS NOT one of them..
Haven't seen my mailman, think they changed his route!
Parks Canada has set up a lot of cameras in Banff National Park and posted some of the wildlife pics online.
http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/banff/plan/plan1.aspx
They are posted by month. Check out the grizzly bear scratching hisback on a tree trunk in June/July!
Thanks for this, Carol.
It looks like some of the animals were posing LOL They got their noses right up to the camera - wonder if there was a flash, and it alerted them.....it sure was funny!!
This is really a great link - thanks! I have added it to my favourites so I can check it out from time to time.
The sun is shining today! Haven't seen that for a long time. Looking forward to a nice afternoon so I can get the rest of the lawn furniture put away and wrap a few bushes with burlap. It will also be nice for the Remembrance Day service and that doesn't happen very often.
LOTSA 'Cougars' in Thunder Bay LoL
Betty the post re the dogs was priceless .. written JUST for Piper (the cone head)
The singer was obviously well trained .. I'm in a choir, just like to sort of 'blend in'
Years ago .. I sang second soprano in a Xmas concert choir ..one of the songs was Silent Night, now, everytime I hear Silent night, I find myself filling in that harmony .. mind you, doing it is not as easy as it was all those years ago ..
Been dreary here .. damp and cool'ish' ... apparently tomorrow the tempw will drop like a stone ..
I still have NO washer and dryer and NOTHING from Sears except 'We understand, call this 1-800# .. hate this feeling of being trapped !!!
Piper is doing fine with the cone .. I do think I will remove it a bit early though .. perhaps Sunday .. his incision line is as clean as a whistle .. and he doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all . Course the tech said, round about day7 the sutures will start to dissolve (internally) and he'll likely find that a bit itchy.
Remembrance Day is always such a kind of sad day .. have to take Lorna for blood work so will likely pass by one of the cenotaphs in the city and take part in some way .. even if it is just the silence of remembrance.
TTFN
~M~
WHOA !! Carol .. just visited the link you put up !!! Wonderful pics .. will check back often.
Now I wonder if Ontario has cameras set up somewhere in our Parks System?
When I get a minute I'll check it out ..
~M~
Remembrance Day...prayers are for those lost, those in combat and those in training..special prayers for their families as well!
THE VETERAN ON OUR TEN DOLLAR BILL
If you look at the back right-hand side of a Canadian $10 bill, you will see an old veteran standing at attention near the Ottawa war memorial. His name is Robert Metcalfe and he died in 2007 at the age of 90.
That he managed to live to that age is rather remarkable, given what happened in the Second World War. Born in England , he was one of the 400,000 members of the British Expeditionary Force sent to the mainland where they found themselves facing the new German warfare technique - the Blitzkrieg.
He was treating a wounded comrade when he was hit in the legs by shrapnel.
En route to hospital, his ambulance came under fire from a German tank, which then miraculously ceased fire. Evacuated fromDunkirk on HMS Grenade, two of the sister ships with them were sunk.
Recovered, he was sent to allied campaigns in North Africa and Italy . En route his ship was chased by the German battleship Bismarck .
In North Africa he served under General Montgomery against the Desert Fox, Rommel.
Sent into the Italian campaign, he met his future wife, a lieutenant and physiotherapist in a Canadian hospital. They were married in the morning by the mayor of the Italian town, and again in the afternoon by a British padre.
After the war they settled in Chatham where he went into politics and became the warden (chairman) of the county and on his retirement he and his wife moved to Ottawa . At the age of 80 he wrote a book about his experiences.
One day out of the blue he received a call from a government official asking him to go downtown for a photo op. He wasn't told what the photo was for or why they chose him. 'He had no idea he would be on the bill,' his daughter said.
And now you know the story of the old veteran on the $10 bill.
