I'm not in the "grasps of depression" - absolutely Refuse to let myself.... I'll "talk it out" either on the phone, or some of these threads...... I got a call from a buddy of ours (Bob - the other one) and I was so glad to hear a friendly voice. He wanted to work on our new church Newsletter, and for a change I had to tell him "no, very busy here, with church stuff", which is an oddity for me to have to say no. I have no "room for 'give' " to be flexible on times to work on the editing of our first edition....
My DH is coming home with some legal sized paper so I can print out a "mock-up" and get it ready for distribution next Saturday (8:30 AM!)
What's Happening in your neck of the woods?
I'm sure the other 'Bob' understood' maybe he was looking to fill in his day as well..so will you print from computer or have them printed by photo-copier or a printing establishment..
1 more hour..talk about a long day..
The church will print it up on their printer. There's about 200+ we'll need to distribute.
Best you keep to your schedule then..
Temps last night dropped below -20!My back yard says -16 at 10 this morning.
I dont have a garage and I forgot to put out the cable to plug in the car- did it this morning. But.... I 'have' a garage for a while. House across the lane that was rented then empty and up for sale, owners letting me use the garage until it is either sold or rented again. Too bad I didn't think to ask them a couple of days earlier!
And I tried out my new heated car seat cushion - nice to sit on but I don't feel much on my back - too many layers I guess.
Working at LH later this afternoon- hope it is busy - more fun that way - open until 8 this evening -the first time they have tried that.
Too cold to walk the dogs- they have not been out for a walk since Wed afternoon but in this cold they dont stay out very long in fact I had to give Bailey a push this morning to make him go out the door!
Carol - that was Funny! Now, I want to know if the "helper dog" got settled LOL
Glad you have a garage to park in. It'll help keep the snow off, and you won't be scraping ice off your windows. I seem to remember you having a house in your neighbourhood that had a lot of different people/families living in it - is this the same one that's being sold/rented?
No not the same one- that one is across the street!
This property is across the back lane- they were great neighbors but decided to buy a farm property and have rented the house for several years. Trying to sell but it is a very small old house, small lot. Probably a tough sell.
Susan
Thanks for the good blend for the stove!
When I was out of work I found that keeping busy was the best thing for me and at the same time I was able to help others. I know with your spirit you will have a job soon!
Carol having good neighbors is a blessing isn't it. I have a lovely senior next door and it's like having a sistermom next door. We help her out and she lets me put my plants in her basement, car in her garage and the dog gets let out when I am late. I love feeling that I belong to a community.
Check out the Spray Park I am helping build in our league. We had to take out our wading pool and the city said if we redeveloped it they would give us some money. One thing led to another and I ended up heading up this committee.
A little off base with our snow isn't it.
Ann
Carol - darn that it isn't the group across the street that's moved...... I remember they were a "royal pain" lol
Ann - glad you liked the recipe for Noel Smells ^_^
I applied to a job that's Right Across the Street from us, about 2 blocks if I take the long way around (which I would have to, to get past the Sound Fence lol)
I'm not going to sit on my haunches and wait, but sometimes it's disheartening when I've been told I have a job with the company (AHS HR dept) and then I don't hear anything after 3 interviews with them.......
Ah well, Things Will Get Better, I'm sure of it. When I least expect it, my job prospects will turn around and I will get something that's good for me.
Morning, toss/turn/toss/turn, tummy doesn't feel right so thought I best get up and be productive, ask me where I'll be mid afternoon, probably sleeping and mixing up my days and nights..
Cold outside, promised Ann I'd pick her up about 8a.m. and we'd go cutting greenery along the concessions, sounded like a plan yesterday but this morning, brrrrr, rather have the fireplace on and sit inside..
Time for a coffee...gab later
INSOMNIA .. I doubt it's anyones best friend ... and I agree Betty, those mid afternoon naps sometimes just do not cut it. I usually waken in a dither ... ahh well .. I have always said 'sleep is overrated' .. I totally changed out my 'circadian rhthyms' by working midnites for all those years.
Annab .. nice pic of the SPRAY Park .. .. much nicer than a wading pool .. congrats on your organizing.
Neighbours .. odd sorts .. out this way they are rarely seen, but when they are it's always a friendly encounter .. seems in the country each home knows which home to call if something is needed in a hurry. Someone has a tractor to get your car out of a ditch, someone has a fax machine and doesn't mind sending a local fax if needed, course, there are some 'kooky sorts' too .. but few and far between.
Flippin cold here this morning -12C .. the wind howled all night and the woodstove went out, the furnace kicked in though, but, Smokey was NOT impressed that HIS fire had gone out !!
Off to town in a bit, as well .. Lorna is going to the neighbours to look over their new snow blower tractor, she is bound and determined she will be clearing their snow this winter ..
Enjoy your Saturday everyone
~M~
PS .. Susan ... I am POSITIVE you will be working before Xmas !!
"M" just maybe Lorna needs to feel she's contributing after all your kindness, as long as she doesn't do harm to herself it just might be what she needs..if you won't let her send her my way..
Wind is cold, just got back from walking the concessions and cutting greenery for Christmas arrangement with Ann..wasn't quite as cold as I thought so didn't wear a hat, can only hope no ear ache tonight.
Coming along nicely with my placemats, if it continues to go this well should be posting them on Monday..only thing is after I made as per pattern I realized she gave dimensions, had to go back and try to make smaller, some points just don't match but what can I do??
Kyle is working at the arena today, Melanie and Greg are gone Christmas shopping in Toronto so asked if I could pick Kyle up after work in Midland about 5:00 p.m., told them that someone had best call me incase I fall asleep..lol..
Dropped into the church and bought some baked goodies, some chelsey buns I don't need and some fudge..I'll share with Noah and Kyle tonight so that we can share in the extra lbs. it will put on..
Hope you are all enjoying your day..back to sewing..
I'm finally home, and had some supper (then put some bread fixings into the machine - Betty - bwaaaaaaaahahaha - couldn't resist LOL)
I've been sooo busy today - woke up at 8:50 and had to be at church to prepare for our Poinsettia Tea!! Got there by 9:10 and was the first one there. The doors were left unlocked.......... oooooopsie! dunno who left 'em that way...
By 11:00 I had to leave for voice lessons, then back at 1:00 for "manning" the bake table until 3pm. We made over $400 on the bake table alone!!
My lemon meringue pie for the table went 'weepy' so I left it in the fridge. When I mentioned it, one of the ladies wanted to buy it, weepy or not!!!
The Sweet Potato Bread I made in my machine went within minutes of the table opening!!
I'm making some tonight, cuz Bob loved the smell of it, and he wanted some ^_^
We had a lot more people today than many expected. It's really cold here - ~M~, you said -12C was cold? Try -23c day-before-yesterday, before windchill which was -27c!!!
Today it was "only" -18c........ it's so cold here lately. We don't usually get it this cold this time of year. And the SNOW!! keep shovelling................ Bob lol
Betty - hope you get some sleep, soon!
Ann - we're going to be in your area on the weekend of the 11th - Bob's company (CasterTown) is having their annual Christmas Party. Maybe we can meet this year? Last year you were sooooooo sick with a cold! And the weather was very blizzard-y..... hope it's better this year. We intend on going to West Edm Mall again. It was so much fun, and we Really liked the Red Piano restaurant/bar!
Morning, all, been up since 5:30am
I am so thrilled about what I accomplished yesterday that I set today aside for decorating..will be lots of ooohs and ahhhs as you forget what treasure you have from year to year..thought I'd start with the trees thought..Brought the tree box into the basement, fluffed up all the branches, oh it looked so pretty with all the lights aglow, flickering, Reba singing loudly throughout the house, hot chocolate and chelsey bun in hand (I'll share) me feeling the warmth of the fireplace..got it set up and something didn't quite click,oh no, it's the outdoor deck tree not the basement tree..so now I've got the tree out on front deck, basement tree brought in and going to try this again..lol..thankfully the living room tree is not large and the french cafe has but a little one or else I'd be playing a game of match the tree to the room all day.. can any of you guess I LOVE Christmas..
Had so much trouble getting to sleep last night NOT because I couldn't, I sure could..layed on the chesterfield when Greg came in, he'd been Christmas shopping with Melanie for the boys all day and dropped in to say he'd pick them up at the arena where I dropped them off...it was then 8:30..thought terrific, have a bath and of to bed..as I climbed in and last leg hit the mattress off to lala land I went ..about 9:30 my girlfriend Dianne called for a chat, she was going to come over this morning and we'd to out for lunch but because they are calling for a lovely day she decided to go with a group horseback riding, which was fine by me, already knew what I wanted to do today...chatted for about 20 minutes and barely hung up the telephone that I was sleeping, telephone rings again, it's Kyle, I had told him to let me know one way or another if I had to pick him up and he didn't know his dad had dropped in so he called...let's try this again..found it harder to go to sleep this time, could have almost got up and done a midnight shift..lol..telephone rings again, Jeff my youngest, he and Julie had been out for supper, did some shopping and call me to find out if I had any idea what I wanted for Christmas??? drats and more drats...said he should have called all week but after putting a computer program on the market and working mega overtime (almost 24/7 for past 3 months) he was exhausted, wasn't feeling the best so he stayed home and worked from the chesterfield..NOW he calls to chit/chat..finally I was dozing off in our conversation ..nearly...so he said he'd call today so we can gab..
But the hours without telephone calls I slept well, in fact woke up several times and said 'no you don't, stay in bed even if you just watch t.v.' must have dozed for another hour then was thinking of decorating and thought, get up and get with it..today's a fun day..
So hoping you all have the same..see you on my next break, in the meantime, enjoy the Christmas music and trees flickering off and on, Reba's singing 'come sit by the table and all join hands' wish you were all here...
Tempted to join you Betty .. but .. am busy shoveling snow .. uggg
Was up with the dogs at 5am, and did the first round, just in again after the second .. doubtless the driveway will require the snowblower .. finger crossed I can get Lorna next door so she can use their tractor to snowlbow their drive .. I try to be supportive of her with this venture, but, sometimes I find it difficult to keep up ..
Susan, may I have the sweet potato bread recipe? I have yet to use the breadmaker this year .. perhaps today will be the day :-)
Mind you .. the 2 sweet potatoes I do have are ear marked for supper tonight .. but, Safeway has lots more ^_^
Take care everyone ...
~M~
Please "M" don't send it south, need at least one more weekend to get everything under control..
Originally had all my christmas decorations in fair size boxes, got the bright idea to go to Walmart Boxing Day and buy 20 plastic bins, wow, didn't realize they were packed this heavy..have to purchase a few more to lighten myload..ahhh bought more christmas goodies so just maybe I'll need them for that..
just dusted the entire living room, bringing in the bins and realizing what a silly thing to have done, now I have to vacuum again when I've finished..think I'm on a 'make work project'
No sitting...gab later
~M~ Here's the Sweet Potato Bread recipe for the Breadmaker. My breadmaker prefers putting the wet ingredients first, so I added the ingredients in "backwards". You'll have to check which your breadmaker prefers......
I set it for sweet bread, and light crust. It took 3 hrs & 50 min.
It's really good - Bob said "no wonder it sold first, at the Bake Sale" ^_^
Hi Susan
Yep will be here on that weekend, love to meet you at the very least for coffee. Are you guys at the mall again?
I don't want a cold at all this year! Got my Flu shot for protection.
We are very snowy and cold here. I have Sheppard's Pie in the oven and it smells great. The city is getting ready for the Grey Cup and thankfully we are going to be warmer next weekend. I don't know who won the game in Calgary today but our city will be either full of red or green folks and both colors do well for pre Christmas coloring.
Ann
Ann - Yes, we'll be going to the mall again this year! As the party is Saturday night we will be staying overnight and going to the mall on Sunday. What's a good time to meet on Sunday? It would have to be before 1pm. I used to have your ph# - could you d-mail it to me?
I don't know who won, either..... not much on sports - just found out today that there WAS a game LOL
Thanks for the recipe Susan .. am just wondering, d'ya think I might be able to substitute pureed pumpkin in place of the yams/sweet potato ?
I am the QUEEN of substitution .. thing is .. I am most assuredly going NOWHERE tomorrow .. 4 shovel outs today, snow has stopped, and now .. RAIN !!!! We ate the sweet potato at supper .. but .. I have lotsa PUMPKIN ..
I think I MAY have heard that Sask won .. so .. a sea of GREEN it will be ..
Sitting here listening to plows outside on the roads .. lotsa slushy sounds .. gosh .. always feel so bad for people having to go into work (or home) either tonight or tomorrow morning .. gonna be rushy fer sure !!!!!
Lorna is feeling SO good !! Makes me smile .. she was able to clear the snow from the neighbours driveway twice today .. they have a riding blower, one she is quite used to using .. makes me feel good to see her feeling so great ..
SO .. I am thinkin I had best take a muscle relaxant tonight, or, run the risk of wakening in the morning and NOT being able to MOVE LoL
Gotta luv gettin older ............. NOT !!!
Off to watch the dogs play in the snow .. going to try and attach a couple of videos (fun stuff) I made today .. trust me ... y'all will LAUGH !!!

yes, ~M~ - I would think you could substitute pumpkin - as long as it's well cooked to the same consistency. Personally, I never use canned yams, but the fresh cooked ones I made. There's a lot of sweetness here.
geeeze - I thought I was the Queen of Substitutions LOL
Morning all,
Hate to tell you this "M" and Susan, but it's 15 (58) here and rising..maybe this is the calm before the storm..
Kudo's to Lorna for being so brave..
siiiiiiiiiiiiigh it's minus 20c (-4F) here, Betty...... (minus 31 (minus 29F) with wind chill.....)
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRr
I'm not going anywhere today, and my car's block heater is plugged in......
Can't say I'm missing that weather Susan, if you send it anywhere let it be south of the border..I can wait..am always willing to share..lol
D....m cold!
Had to go out at 8 this morning - getting my teeth relined and back again at 3pm and again tomorrow morning. Fortunately it is just a few blocks away so quick to get there.
Otherwise staying in today- but it sure is nice having the use of a garage in this weather. My elderly neighbor Marie says the only problem is with my car not sitting out back she is never sure if I am home or not. Thats one reason I put off building a garage- she and I can see each others doors and keep an eye on each other.
Maybe I will get some more dogbeds done today!
brrrrrr Carol - hope you're cozying up to a nice fire and hot chocolate! I can't remember if you have a fireplace?!
If not, put on a "holiday log" DVD lol
Carole, wonderful that you can use the garage, beats having to take ice/snow off the windshield..can you believe right now it's 61 degrees?? should have wore my short/shorts lol
Better not gloat, bad weather coming my way!
Haven't been to lunch yet, 1:45pm..figure it I go at 2 to 3 then makes for a short afternoon plus I won't be hungry come supper time
ICE is not MY friend, or anyone elses I would imagine, and BOY o BOY do we have it !!
I shoveled the patio and sidewalk right down yesterday (4 times) and, then, it RAINED about 6pm for an hour!! This morning .. well .. SKATING RINK!! But .. mild temps ^_^
Schools were closed out this way as the school buses won't chance it ..
Drove into town to pick up a prescription and it was ALL good ... I guess our Township/Municipality isn't going to spend the $$ on overtime for plowing/salting/sanding on a weekend.
Woodstove is going here, and the furries are enjoying it .. will post a pic ..
Carol and Susan, I do not envy you those temps .. makes my fingers ache thinking about it !! But, BETTY .. OOO La LA .. very nice temps .. we spoke with Lorna's parents today and King City was much the same .. they did say that it'll be taking a PLUNGE within 24 hours ..
Off to shower and then supper to make ... didn't get the Sweet Potato/pumpkin bread done today .. there was something I was missing .. orange juice, was going to SUBSTITUTE Cranberry but thought better of it ..
Enjoy your evening
~M~
awwwwww they look so comfy!
~M~ as for the Orange Juice - I didn't have any when I made the loaf either, and thought of using lemon instead then thought better of it (too sour!) so....... I got an orange, and the zest from it, then I took each of the sections and removed the skin & pulp. Then I mashed it until it was liquid-y..... Being too lazy to go out, I stayed warm and made my own Orange Juice LOL it took me about 15 minutes......
Now I keep the dried orange peel and will chop it in my chopper for any future recipes! ^_^
"M" can life get any better than that..coming back as a 'furry', if I can choose any home of a DG friend..lol know I'd be treated like a queen.
"M" Lorna's parents are right, suppose to rain tomorrow, high temps similar to today but falling rapidly as the day progresses so would imagine ice here as well..I'll drive in a blizzard but won't go out if it's icy..I'd welcome an ice day though just to stay home and rest..
Tell Lorna not to be going out with all this ice..wouldn't want her falling.
No, we don't want her falling!!
Take care, Lorna!!!! ^_^
Gonna share 2 pics .. one is of me dressed in the utmost, totally inappropriate clothing/footwear, to snowblow .. this would be Sunday ..
The other will be of Lorna trying to explain to me HOW to run the snowblower !!!! I gave up once the drive was 3/4 done .. the milk farmer down the road ploughed us out .. he'll be back tomorrow as we have had about 4" of FLUFFY snow since 5pm ...
Lorna should be an inspiration to all of us .. NEVER let the small stuff bug you, just 'get on with it' ..
^_^
~M~
Good for Lorna - silly Marilyn!!
Well Susan, since that little 'drenching fiasco', I have found all the proper snow blowing attire.
Gord is away in Wisconsin or he would have been in charge of the snow removal !!
Got up early to shovel, but, after 9pm last eveing the snowfall must have stopped as the patio and walkways are okee dokee.
Lorna will be going next door to do their property this morning .. we have it down to an art now almost. I drive her over, help her up and onto the tractor, she blows the snow from their huge driveways, calls me on her cell when she's done, I boodle over, see her off the tractor and home we come ..
HANG ON .. TOMORROW is to be the arrival of washing machine #3 (and dryer) .. truth be told .. I feel SICK about it !
Off to have a second coffee (tsk tsk)
~M~
OH "M" it sure does look pretty, not pretty enough for me wanting the snow to fall here..good part of the night Sailor was taking a fit..thundering for several hours..imagine that..right now it's 50, sunshine and wind but if weathermen are right temps will drop very quickly!
You look so pretty in the photo all dressed in your winter garb? Lorna is indeed a special person, most would just lay back and feel sorry for themselves..
Ahhh 3rd. washing machine and dryer, isn't 3rd. of anything suppose to be good luck!!! can see you now washing up a storm..
I just woke up an hour ago (10:15 - What A Time To Sleep In Until!!!) so haven't even had my coffee :-( I have had my breakfast though.
Decided I Have To Make Myself Go Out today.... if only to get some batting for my mom's quilt. The pkg I have is 72x100" and that's not wide enough for the top I made. I'd have to take off the borders and That's Not Gonna Happen. I like the wider quilts....
So, I guess I roll up this batting and get a wider one. Better measure the top.........
You two have sent me the cold weather, temps are dropping quicker than I can type and I'm a quick typist..brrr, winds are up, sky is black...imagine last night was a thunder and lightning storm and today likely we'll have snow..crazy weather indeed..
keep warm you guys
