What's on the menu today??

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

As the days are colder and shorter I find myself baking more and more. Now that hunting season is here i'll be a baking fool every Sat. for approx 8 hunters. Thank goodness this only last a month! LOL

This morning I got up at 4 am and made 2 dozen blueberry muffins with the berries I picked off our bushes this summer. Hunting season has begun!

Cooked 2 lbs of bacon, couple of lbs. of deer meat (tradition) a loaf of Texas toast and scrambled a few eggs.......

Then I turned my attention to the dinner menu and made a pot of beef stew, baked beans, 2 dozen dinner rolls, a big bowl of broccoli slaw and 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies. Enough! "Tout a fait"!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Gee I forgot what tout a fait means... and I used to be regents honors French.. Oh well, C'est la vie! lol!

- Went to in-laws today, left about 1pm, but came back just in time to do my weekly grocery shopping and pick up a genuine Italian Pizza W/ sausage for tonight! "Mangiar bene"!! ☺

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Pixie - you make me ashamed.
You cooked circles around me today.

I guess you all are really feeling the cold. We have just begun to get leaf change. A few days ago it was 81 degrees and today /tonight I think we will have frost.

I thank you for allowing me to horn in on the Northeast Gardening forum (me and my computer being located in NC) I always look in on the forum because I am a Brooklyn girl and I miss the cold and the food (availability) and all the stuff associated with the Northeast. I have "northeast" envy!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love having you Rosie and enjoy your company and menu's! ^_^
For me.. pretty much everyone is down SOUTH!! LOL

WC ~ "All done!!" Pizza sounded good!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Ahh! Thanks Pixie! (saved me another French class, lol!)

Always look forward to your posts Rosie, you're always welcome here in the Northeast!
... and I always get lost in Brooklyn! lol!!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks all!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hey Rosie, what section of Brooklyn?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hey there, Rosie! I've missed seeing you post, so come on back more often. You should know by now that you are very much a part of the gang here. I'll be visiting my sister in NC 8 days from now, so I'm happy to hear what your weather is. I'm with you....I miss the north too! We are Florida residents now, but we get up to NH for the summer.

Celeste, Celeste, Celeste!!!!! We gotta talk.......you are making the rest of us look pretty darn lazy! Now, I deserve it, but most of you guys don't. I go somewhere where it's just too hot to work or cook, so I have to hang out on DG to justify my daylight hours here. LOL

Geeze all we get is left overs on Sunday!

Thomaston, CT

I made the beef stew...that's it. We are all slackers next to Pixie!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I sure hope they appreciate you pixie. Not enough people here to do all that baking, but it sure does sound yummy. Besides if I bake it I will eat it. LOL.
Today is smoked shoulder that is smelling the house up nicely already and sliced sweet potatoes and crushed pineapple. Maybe baby peas for a veg.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

doing pizza ... too much fixing outside with this wind

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Son asked for pasta fagioli - so that is what he got.

Preschool we lived in what was called the 'hole' don't ask me why - lots of mafia there --- I don't even want to think what might have been dumped there. Milford Street

Then we moved to Forbell Street - aka "City Line" - edge of Queens but in Brooklyn.

Then as a young wife - we lived on Remsen Avenue - my hubby's stomping ground -- Canarsie.

What part of NC Donnie? It was really nice today 70s and sunny. I think the highest for Monday will be mid 60's. Hoping for some rain midweek. You haven't missed the peak colors here.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Rosie, your son has great taste!! One of my favs!!!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mine too! My wife is making chicken cacciatore.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Another one I love!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It was delish!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I kept the pasta a tad on the hard side - as he likes it but my husband ..he likes the pasta soft (ugh!)

I love cacciatore too. My mom made it best.
Mine comes out good --but not like mom's. She got a thinner and tastier sauce. But to be fair (to me!!) I think chickens had more flavor way back when she used to sear the left over feathers over a flame!

My cooking very seldom taste like Mom's...but I keep trying. ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It's never as good as Mom's!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Mine tastes better than mom's. (mine anyways) She was a wonderful person but a self admitted lousy cook, and that's the reason I learned to cook for myself. ☺

Grilled Club steak, baked potato, salad and crème brulée for dessert.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My mom made the best chicken cacciatore, but hubby doesn't like it so I never make it.
Had pizza at our friends' house along with all kinds of goodies including, crab dip, brushetta, of course CANDY

My parents grew up in East New York section and from what I hear wouldn't want to visit there now.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No one moved from that neighborhood. Taken out in a box.

Thomaston, CT

Had Chinese at the Lee Outlets for lunch, so soup for dinner.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Raspberry honey mustard pork tenderloin, brown lima beans, butternut squash, cauliflower

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yum!!

Ham steaks with rice and four-bean salad.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Used to eat ham steaks regularly but I cut them out of my diet, (I read the sodium content, lol!)

Made another corned beef, (small ones enough for one dinner with one a bonus lunch for DW). Red potatoes and cabbage w/ carrots.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL WC swap ham steak for corned beef...I thnk you should check sodium content on that too....LOL too funny!!!!

Son wanted tacos but I need to go shopping and had no lettuce, I don't like tacos without lettuce so made some for the kids, and with the rest made what's called mac and beef...kinda like a home made hamburger helper

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks Jen I did, much less, especially since I don't usually boil ham steaks in 2 quarts of water, lol!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

left over french dip 1/2 sandwich from charlie browns

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

French dip, one of my favorite lunches, along with pastrami & Swiss, and turkey & bacon triple decker club!

pork roll for lunch (glazed) with steamd broccoli and a fresh salad. ..so light on the dinner. A beef lunch wagon won some national award -- for burgers. Called 'only burgers' Meat ground fresh, no pesticides, or hormones. etc etc. they offered lamb burgers too (I draw the line there) Anway, burgers were great (this was the first stand alond restaurant opening.) Burgers were fresh kind of small but didnt' eat quickly like a fast food burger might (5 chews) this one last and lasted and was very good . fries were too. but the bill for two burgers - one with everything except bacon (cheese, salad, dressing, tomato, mustard, onion, pickle and one with just cheese and ketchup) plus two sodas and a small bag of fries,.....came to 17 dollars and something cents (almost 18 ) I thought that was alo of money. .
