Congrats again pelle!!
I got me a new bird this afternoon. It is one that I have been hoping ot find for a couple years now. I have really looked for this little bird when out in the fall and winter. Today I just happen to be looking out the window when I see this little bird flitting around and I knew right off it was a kinglet.....BUT WHICH ONE????
Oh yeah......a Golden-crowned Kinglet for me today!! :)
Great pictures, Nanny. We have not had goldfinches here for a couple of years. I worried until I saw plenty of them at a friend's house in the next town east of us last spring. So they may not like our new feeder which has less spillage of seeds. chickadees, tufted titmice & white breased nuthatches like it fine. I think as a result we had nesting nuthatches this summer.
Nice Margaret. Usually pictures of herrons show them standing around. I think the turtledove looks bigger than our mourning dove.
Iris, I checked my bird ID book and it says the Laughing Turtledove is 25.5cm - just over 10"
Temporary home for these immigrants; American Coots are here in large number as well as Candadian Geese. I'm pleased to have learnt that some will make it their temperary home for the winter here.
Gp, it's so nice for you to still see some hummingbirds still visit your garden this time of year. Cormorants are quite a flyer! I've recently watched them fish around a local dam. Unlike Herons who will stand still at a spot to 'fish', Cormorants will circlying the shallow water and dive in for preys. It's a sight to behold!
Margaret, your Dove is as cute as can be on mid-air and the picture is clear. Nan, congrat on your 'lifer' kinglet. The sparrows are so cute, I can't wait to see them here -- so far I haven't seen one yet for the season. I'm so envious of your Northern Flickers (and Duc's), though I saw them every now and then, but not as often as I'd like. Besides, my redheaded Wps, the Northern Flickers are on the top of of my fav. list. Dave, your pics. of the Blues (BB) are a pleasure to watch as always. Pelle, #201!!! wow, quite a list you have!!!
Hi everyone else; waving at Alphaba, Burd, Burn and the rest of our group. Nice to see you back Wild Rose, those Owls are awesome! It's good to see your posting as well Gary, I've got to go out to the garden and finish up some chores (getting some of my tender perennials inside for the season), will return -- at a later time.
Nanny, congratulations on the arrival of your kinglet. The color sure shows up nice. Cute sparrows and thrush too. Looks like you had a great birdwalk.
Margaret, love that White-faced Heron and that turtledove is so sharp and clear. Great job!
Lily, your coots must be watching for you-cute. Hope there are some little ones in with them. Hoping the loons will stay around for the winter for you.
My feeder has been full of younger House Finches lately.
Margaret--near Mourning dove size then. The MD doesn't have the pinkish tones.
Really great photos everyone. I've been away too long. I love the laughing turtledove! All great.
Pelle, congrats on 200 and 201. Those are great birds for such milestones too.
Nanny, congrats on the golden-crowned kinglet! It's nice when a butt shot clearly IDs a bird! I like it.
I went to Galveston Island with a proper guide, added 17 birds to my list and took some really lousy pictures! I can't believe that I didn't get a better picture of these guys. They're so cool that I'm sharing anyway -- a pair of Crested Caracara.
