Plant propagation part XXIII based on my own experience

naaa no ire just a bit friskysee everyone bright and early about noon thirty

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hello you wacky women and that crazy man who hangs out here. I have been up and moving around for hours and I am about to get creative and do some wreaths for the store. I wish the season was over, I guess I am just concerned I will have to have more medical s### done and it will interrupt my sales, etc. I am such a PITA with the "unhappy thoughts" I get. My anxiety is the cause of that and the more I get annoyed with myself, the more depressed I get. I just can not win. I am my own worst enemy and I know it. Shut up Jen!
I am reading your mind again. LALALALALALALA
I must go, water the birds and get outside. It is beautiful here today and I am sure it will not last much longer. SIL is spreading Roundup so I have to watch where Barney and I walk until it dries. I hate when he does that. He gets so carried away ....but I love him. Weeds are not welcome here on this farm. LOL.
Talk later guys. Hugs.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, the MAIN word here is PITA !! You got it lady! So is your drs office going to make the appt with the new Cardiologist, or do you? Do you have to rely on the one we were going to gang up on to make this appointment? Maybe we better hold off on beating her up until after you get this done.

If your drs office is anything like the ones out here, they won't make the attempt until you nag them a couple of times. Sounds like you might have to arm wrestle her to get it done. Once you get those copies of your file you better start nagging.

OK Dave, you don't have to be so pious. I just reread your post that you are hiding the tools your BIL and SS need to do the brakes on that vehicle. In your room no less!! What do you want them to do, tear the place apart? So then what are you going to do, put your cape on and, tools in hand, spring in like Super Man to save the day?

LOL, and now Dawn wants a cat fight! Dawn I thought you were going to Phoenix! Oh, not until today I think it was.

Dave, I rarely look at Youtube. Let alone post on it!

Gotta post this before I lose it. Such a masterpiece! LOL

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JB, Do you suppose the reason my Aimee is looking so bad is because I repotted it into an 8" pot? It was doing real good and then I thought I would make it more comfortable and gave it more room. It went down hill from there.

Do you thinkk that was the problem?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Mornin everyone:
Pious???? we ended up having a friend help with the breaks. so thats good.
no I am not holyer than any anyone. its just when you visit some one you don't call them names when they answer the door...even if it is in spanish. I moved my tools so they would not walk off and everyone say someone else is the reason they are gone. been through that once before. no thanks.

JB I am so glad you didn't get any news that was anything new. I know that sounds strange but i don't know what to say to be better. I am just thankfull you are going to be ok and not have anything major to check you into the hospital ....

I give up its all not flowing so I will be back when I can have a better aproach to chatting...
Sorry
Dave

I am back, what a day this was. I worked my old butt off and I am tired. It is now about 4 p.m. and soon will be dark. Standard time sucks. Anyhow, I got alot done today and now I need to relax. I think I may kill Barney is he does not shut up. He wants to eat and he is sitting here beside me making all sorts of weird noises. One dead dog soon.

Jen, I make my own appointment. No referrals nothing. I do it alone. Not to worry baby, when I put the hammer down it will be on that little lady's head. I am just trying to decide do I want her fired, or just told to be a good girl. I did get one of their girls fired down there one time. For some reason when they are in a foul mood I have my appointments, this one was a really large muscle African American Woman. I called her the "Linebacker" because she was big and just as mean. My friend and I went for bloodwork and my friend needs to have her blood drawn from her hand. This woman refused to do that. It almost ended in blows because my friend was about to pass out and I just lost it. The woman would not believe us that my friend passes out if they try and get blood out of her arm..............I warned her, but when she made me get nasty, she was the one who is now among the missing. It took them awhile to get her out of there, but enough of my friends and I told the Office Manager she had to go. When they reorganized the office this past Spring, she was the first to leave. I must say from the day I put her in her place, she changed her attitude towards me. I was not exactly the perfect lady, but I respected her position which is more than she did me, but I told her she needed an attitude change and I would see to it she either gets it or she needs to get a new job. Can't say I didn't warn her.
So, no matter what, do not mess with me. LOL. I must go kill my dog. See you later.
I mean feed my dog. OOOOPS.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I love the look on peoples faces when I look hem right in the eye and say" You Do Not Want to Mess with Me". They get it immediately. But that is because I mean it. I will not get physical but they will sooner or later be sorry.

Dave, I am with you on my tools. But right now my tools are scattered all over the garage. We only have one car in the garage because I have so many plants in there out of the cold and bulbs that need to be planted. I will get the garage rearranged this coming week and then my SUV can go back in the garage. It is my mess. I have no one else to blame.

All the visitors (daughter and grand daughters) are out of the house and down on the "Strip". We both still have our colds but we are both turning the corner to wellness. I forgot how miserable a cold can make you feel. I will take a before and after photo so you can see what marvelous work I can do. LOL.

Daughter, Lynda and grand daughters go home tomorrow and a friend is taking them to the airport. My daughter Tracy has been their entertainment director. I owe her a big one. It has probably saved us a bunch of money being sick. We would be following them around picking up the tab. I gave each child, 7 of them, $20. I asked them to spend it and not to bug their mothers about I want, I want......

The twins, Madison and Marilyn's birthday is today. They are 15. They live in Vancouver. Corbin will be 14 on the 15th. He lives in Las Vegas. They always get money from us for their birthdays but it goes into their college funds. I know, boring but they have enough things.

Just picture this. All of us aggressive women are in a restaurant and get a nasty waitress. What is the next scene?

Love you all. Dave be better. Look out Barney...I think you need a food taster.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well, you and that one up there, JB, and Dave convinced me. Evelyn, Dawn and I will sit at the table across the room from you all and watch the action. I don't get in physical fights.

If I have a problem with someone and really feel I am in the right, then I would deal with it above that person's head. i.e. her boss. Like JB said about the woman in the drs. office.

But we will root yah on!! I'll wear my cheerleader's short skirt and letter sweater. Should look good on me now 50 years later. LOL

And Dave, I laughed my donkey off about you hiding the tools. (don't want to get kicked off here by the typing police.) Yup, I woulda done the same. I was jabbin you and you didn't take it that way. Got your dander up instead. chuckle. :P)=

Yeah, sometimes my fingers get me in trouble. They hit keys that my mouth isn't saying. LOL

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Morning Lovies, I am tired today, feeling like a sack of potatoes run over by a big truck.
Just did to much yesterday and then did not sleep well. Watched Julie Roberts movie and then was wide awake by midnignt and could not sleep.

Barney got up this a.m. with a problem in his gut. I knew I should not have given him that cat food....just kidding. He does however sneak little bits of dry cat food I drop when I am feeding the cats in the morning, and if I do not catch him he will eat as much as he can. I must have missed him eating some and so now we have a tummy ache. Oh God.

I am taking the day off, no church, just walking and resting and trying to chill out and get ready for next weeks madness. We set up the store next weekend and I have more stuff to create. I love being creative when I feel good. I am working on 24 inch wreaths just now and they are so big and pretty.

Have a good day. Luv ya.

Caldwell, NJ(Zone 6a)

The simplest and easiest way I have found to root hardwood and semi hardwood cuttings is to use an empty and cleaned out Vinegar 2 gal plastic bottle ( or any other clear or opaque plastic bottle), which has been cut off at 4" from the bottom and filled with the correct rooting mix. Cuttings should be prepared in the usual manner, dipped in rooting hormone, and struck in the moist rooting mix, and then the cutoff top slid over the bottom. This method gives good moisture witin the container, either with or without the cap on the bottle.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Arfitz: sounds like a mini greenhouse. How hot do they get in the summer heat?

Jeanette: yea I was a bit miffed but I was balance with the upcoming visitors. he said this morning he felt like he did is job of raising the girls to a point where they can be productive parts of society. the youngest is 16 and still lives with us.

well I am taking it easy today so I can get all my shipping done monday. I started selling off different things we don't use here at the house. ebay works well for that.

Hopefully next week i will have all my plugs into 3.5" pots for the winter.

anyone have a red twig dogwood I could beg for cuttings from????

Have a great day
Dave

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

And arfitz is there any certain time of the year that it works better than others? Do you have any idea how long this takes to root them? I take it these are just a short piece of the tip of a plant?

Is this the way I should be doing my 9 Barks? They still have all their leaves but are not growing at this time, should I do it now?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Jeanette:
i would wait till its good and frozen outside and then do the cuttings. I will try to explain hardwood cuttings on the new page I will start on monday. You might test some cuttings now both softwood and the more mature wood cuttings to see which works best for you
Dave

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JB, I know how you feel today then and I didn't even do all that work you did yesterday, tho I did a lot of work.

I am in the process of making tamales for my sisters for Christmas. It is my mom's recipe and a lot of work so they, my sisters, don't make them, but we all love them. So, it makes a good Christmas present for them. I think.

I used to make Fruit cakes for everyone, and yes, we all love fruit cakes. Not normal people I guess. LOL But, that got to be too expensive so I will try to make one of those for my sister in California since I can't very well send her tamales.

Poor Barney. He not only catches hell for eating the cat food that he shouldn't, but has to listen to you yell at him about it while his tummy is upset. Just for you being so mean to him he probably will throw up all over the floor and then for good measure he will poop too.

Dave, I was pulling your chain but you had a short one. I can understand why you did, just thinking about all the things that boob does and says. I think he must be saying that to pull your chain too. Does he actually believe he raised the girls, or maybe he is giving you and Kim a backhanded compliment? Doesn't sound like the kind tho does he?

What kind of stuff are you putting on ebay now Dave? Besides plants?

Well, gotta get busy so I can watch to see if the football game is going to be worth looking at this afternoon.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Dave, are you saying when the sap is down good?

I have never had any 9 Barks before and this plant looks today, just like it did this summer other than it was growing in the summer. Right now it doesn't appear that it is even going to lose it's leaves. Do you know anything about them?

If the sap goes down when it freezes wouldn't you think it would lose it's leaves? But then the green needle trees don't lose their needles. I don't know.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jen, what game are you watching today. The Eagles and Redskins play Monday Night I think and I have no special interest in any game on today. If you are going to watch one it may be worth watching. What time?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I forgot to tell you, I have not sold a thing in two weeks. NOTHING. I can not believe things are this quiet. I have put up four Christmas Cactus on eBay and of course DG has the same thing . People are looking but they are not buying. I guess I should change the pictures, but I am too tired today to do that.

I just sent a prescription into Drs. Foster and Smith, an online pharmacy for animals. The same pills I get from my dog vet are 66 cents cheaper and no shipping costs from them than from the dog vet. So, I ask the horse vet to write me the prescription and screw the dog vet when it comes to using these. It costs me approximately $32.00 a month or more when he gets sick just for the one pill. I am getting really cheap, but I tell you I can not keep spending when my income is not increasing even a cost of living raise. None of my pensons have had an increase in two years. What money is invested has lost money on interest big time. So, what can you do but cut back? I love my animals and will not stop caring for them no matter what I have to give up.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Yes Jeanette:
once the sap has stopped flowing. I will need to double check my facts but a lot of the larger trees are best done when the sap has stopped flowing and is slower in its growth.

yes my chain was really short. I don't feel this way about many people but he's horrid and wish I did not have to see him at all. funny thing is his girls are spending the day either in their room or the oldest went to the movies. it all does float back to you. what you sow is what you reap.
I will get the total picture on what to do on the 9 bark.
Dave

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JB, just watching now, once in a while the Seahawks, Seattle. Only ones I watch since they are local. Used to watch them all, but lost interest when they started moving players so much. Can't keep up with the players and that was what was fun. To see them get better each year. Or not.

If I named names it would REALLY show my age. LOL. Like I care, but nobody today ever heard of Johnny Unitas.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

So Dave, do I dare ask how the brakes are coming? Are you just like a fly on the wall, listening to all the swearing etc? LOL, Doesn't the jerk bring any tools with him?

You know, by the time those girls are teens they have figured out the handwriting on the wall. I went way back looking for your post where you said how old the girls are, and your SS but couldn't find it. AND

In my travels looking for it, I found where you said : I mixed in my foliar feed and terantula/pirahana/mycorhyza soil drench. so, how are the plants doing? I still have the rest of the cuttings in the bubbler and they look just like the nubbied ones I sent you. I am getting really disgusted with them. I have never had plants not root for me. I hung a Metal Halide light above them today. Will see if that helps.

Well, gotta get busy from my break, not a bad game JB, 17 to 10 Seattle in the 2nd quarter.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi wacky people. I am on a computer at my hotel, that has the oddest delay. Someone must be monitoring key strokes./

I was supposed to meet my dg friend now but she is not calling and when I called the nuumber I have, they said I hadthe wrong number. Odd. I checked the number. I have met her before here in Phoenix. That is why I am on here flappying to you guys on my vacation.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Dawn, how was the race.

Our cold are on their way out the door along with the visitors. They are now back in Vancouver and I got some laundry done today. Tomorrow is going to be beautiful and I am going to hit the garage.

Today I cleaned off the dining room table. Everything there was put there by me. It is in a bad location. Right by the front door, near the laundry room and on the way to the garage. I have made myself a promise today I will not put anything on the table ever again except tableware. I wonder how long that promise will last.

Dave, I totally understand your feeling with your SIL. I have three people in my life that all they have to do it walk in the door and I am immediately irritated.

Jnette, I heard, did not watch, at least 8 different games today. DH has DirecTV football package. I am with you. I loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. Franco Harris and the infamous catch to win the Super Bowl. Marcus Allen and all the adorable, beautiful San Francisco Quarterbacks. Now a lot are a bunch of thugs, attacking girls, killing dogs and just a bunch of very rich jerks.

The first photo is them dining room table before.

Jnette, this is one of your babies. What is it. I took this last week.

Thumbnail by WormsLovSharon
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That is amazing. I don't remember puting one of those in your things, but it sure looks like one of my new Helebores. That is really cool that it grows there. They normally like cold areas. Keep me posted on how it does. That is a Foetid us Hellebore. Think I got the spelling right. I will have to check.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Good grief Sharon, here is what plantfiles says about that plant: Foetidus Helebore, Frenchy, Bear's Foot, Stinking Hellebore.

Now how do you like that plant that I sent you!!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

It is in the holding garden and doing great. It has a massive bunch of roots and just getting ready to take off.

OK, what is this one. I am trying to name them in my photo album.

Thumbnail by WormsLovSharon
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That is a Pulmonaria. It grows in shade with plants like the helebore, hostas, ferns, Astilbi, etc.

Here is what plantfiles says aboutit: Lungwort, Bethlehem Sage, Jerusalem Sage
Pulmonaria saccharata

It has small pink and blue flowers.

Now that I think about it, I vaguely remember asking you if you had a shade garden.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Actually, I have a very large shade garden. the majority of the courtyard is shade. Thank you so much for the names. Ferns do not grow here. The hosta you sent is doing well in the holding garden. I think I will put it in a pot in the courtyard.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Which one did I send you? Don't remember. I bought several from Dave. Actually, I think we went in together and got some. I saw one in someone's yard when I went to an estate sale one year that was the most gorgeous thing, it was almost as tall as the 4 foot fence and probably almost that wide. Blue rippled leaves and gorgeous. I am sure Dave would know which one it is. I don't think we got any of those big ones like that one.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I will take a photo. I thought I did but could not find it. It is actually the first one I have ever had. I think the slugs eat them here. But I feed the birds and the birds eat the slugs.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

You are sounding much more relaxed tonight. Must be since your company left.

How is your cold doing in your lungs? Are you going to see a dr. tomorrow?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I actually feel really good. The sleeping medicine my son prescribed is really helping me get to sleep. Later in the week I will try to go to sleep without it.

I went to bed early last night out of survival mode. I will explain some day over hot tea.

I forced my self today to do some work around the house and actually got a lot done and did not cough all day.

Yes, I am very glad to have the house back quiet. I can do quiet.

What happened to Sunday Football. Now we have Sunday, Sunday Night, Monday Night and Thursday Night NFL football. But I can get on with you, my friends, and I can block it out.

Later friends.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I heard of Johnnie Unitis, I even remember when OJ Simpson went to USC. That is how the heck old I am. I am an Eagles Fan most of the time, but yesterday I watched the Giants and the Cowboys (who are two other favorites of mine), anyhow, the lights went out in the new Meadowlands Stadium and the game was postponed for quite awhile while the repairs were made. It was scary because many people thought it was terrorists again and they just hit the ground and laid there. They were talking about flashbacks of 9/11 and for a few seconds it was really tense. I was watching on a local channel and as I watched the lights fade I wondered what was happening. Then it all went black. Total Blackout. What a game Cowboys beat the Giants 33 to 20 but it was exciting from start to finish.
Have fog today and rain expected tonight so I guess we are in for a few days of nasty weather, just rain so they say. I am not ready for snow but some people got hammered this weekend.
Hope you all survived the weekend without any problems. Will talk again this week. Have a great Monday.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

How long were the lights out JB? That would have been scary without 9/11. Well, even without close scores games can be good. If your favorite team wins especially. lol Probably those Dallas people did something to the scoreboard to win. LOl

We saw the snow on the news. We normally are getting it by now. Got my 6 fingers on my left hand all crossed. That'll help for sure.

So, are you going to make the dr. appt. today, JB?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Howdy everyone:
