I thought I would send out a heads up. in the question or voteing booth today there is a post where a mamber shows their tree folk. They are so life like its amazing.
Just wanted to share
Dave
Plant propagation part XXIII based on my own experience
JB, it sounds like a problem that you don't need to deal with. I have run into that kind of situation before and tried and tried and stewed over something. Not worth it. Did you tell them there was a problem with their method of calculating it?
Evelyn I would take you up on the offer but I have so many mags now that I just hate to get rid of. I have the last couple of years of GG myself. How did you make the decision to get rid of them? I keep mags but never look at them again. Too good to throw out. I have a friend that I give them to because she loves them too but she doesn't get anything else done. And they are building a new house. So I had to quit giving them to her.
Will take a look at the voting booth Dave. Thanks.
Jeanette ~ I also have Garden Design and Horticulture. I must get rid of them. I just have too many things. I am keeping my best gardening books, but many are going.
I have garden encyclopedias, books on propagation, and many more. Some nice "coffee table" ones, too. Please speak out. I will take plants in return, come spring, but I am not waiting for "spring cleaning", as I am doing it now. then "spring cleaning" will be easier.
I used to sell these books and mags on ebay, but like JB, I am discouraged by all of the new restrictions and other nonsense, as well, I am just tired of doing it. I used to do it when Auctiva was free and put lots of images and pretty themes in the listings. I did not make any money, but had fun doing it and had lots o. bids on my items. Towards the end, tho', there were a lot less bids, with the bad economy. I just don't want to do it anymore. Now I want to just garden and start plants all winter and then plant them out and take care of everything during the rest of the time. And exchange ideas and learn new things. And talk with all of you, too.
Merry ~ Would you want some of these, since you are fairly new at this? They are all instructional and informative.
Dave ~ Last night I finally finished backing up my hard drive, but I, like Sharon, am working on two different projects, and for me, the messiest one has to get done first. I have books and mags everywhere, sorting them all out. I already have 2 boxes in the mail. And another box to go to the library. My husband says, "Where did all of these come from?"....heh, heh...they were all neatly stacked in a corner, but no more things in that corner. I need to finish this, then the computer, and then I can get to my seed-starting as well, on a nicer day, plant the bulbs that are on the back porch. There are many things to do.... (Oh, by the way...the 'Moonlight' broom is not a witches broom!)
None of us knows when our last day here will be. I do not want anyone having to have trouble going through my things and have matters unfinished or unsorted. I never thought about these things when I was younger....
Sorry if anyone is expecting any packages from me...it may be a while, Dawn and Sharon...I will d-mail you when to expect anything. Merry, I don't think I will ship the phlox until spring, but I know Dave has a lot more, and I will be wanting some from him as well, as I need a lot more. Maybe I can find some other nice plants for you. Would you like some bronze ajuga?
Dawn ~ Don't worry about some seeds that you were waiting on. Oh, yes, it was red castor beans. I won't plant them until next year anyway. When did you start yours originally? Did you put them in the ground or start them indoors?
So anyone needing magazines, please let me know. The books I might want to trade for plants in spring. (I'll send the books now, but don't want the plants until spring...) But please let me know, otherwise they will go to the library.
JB ~ I hope that you are resting well now.
Have a good evening everyone.
Getting ready to go to bed. Baby Luke is back in Spokane and tomorrow night the three grand daughters and their mother arrive from Spokane. Madison & Marilyn, twins, will be 15 on 5h3 13th. Their sister, Megan, is 19. They are coming to see if their grandfather looks better. They will be leaving Sunday afternoon.
Vern has an appointment Thursday with the Cardiologist. I have a hair appointment tomorrow.
Had a cold spell move in so I have many plants in the garage and some covered with large orange pots I got at the food store for $5. There are Halloween pots, probably for dunking apples, but I do not care and I bet my plants do not either.
However, not cold enough to hurt the coleus yet. Hold your breath.
Attached is photo of Baby Luke standing on the back landscape upstairs patio. He loved it out there.
Have a great day tomorrow. I will only be around sparingly because have to get all the grandchildren together and to many places.
Love you all.
Evelyn, I just cannot have any more mags. Sorry, I just have too many I have to get rid of. It must be a disease as you get older. Wonder if men do that.
And yes, I keep telling myself I have to clean all of my clutter out so it would not be left for someone else, namely my daughter, to do, but just don't seem to get to it. Too many other things to do.
Cute picture Sharon. I did not know your granddaughters lived in Spokane also.
DARN!! I just saw that cat get a bird!! My sister tells me to put a bell on the cat, but the birds know the cat is there and some of them even tease her I think. So I don't see how a bell would work. It isn't like the cat is sneaking up on them. The cat is out there with no cover!! Now here is the cat walking up here. I know the cat does not eat them. She is not hungry. She wasn't gone long enough to eat it. Just the amount of time it took me to type this. So, all she did was kill it!
I guess the only answer is to quit feeding them. I had Bob put the feeder so high that the cat can't reach it. Don't know how she does it now.
Well, gotta get busy. ttyl,
Woo Hoo EVELYN!
I have found someone for the garden literature material you want to shed.
It would cost too much to send to me .... and I am am also in need in reducing various items that I have not used in years.
RickCorey_WA is very interested. He lives in Everett, WA.
I have found him to be extremely generous.
He is quite humerous at times. I have been encouraging him to follow this thread and to jump in when he feels comfortable.
JB .... any word about your test results? Isn't it a beautiful day weather wise for us?
Well, I need to do some more shredding of leaves. I sure do not like it getting dark so early.
Mary
Jen, do not feel bad about the bird. I was always told a cat can never catch a healthy bird.
I like to think that is true. I have three cats left and the birds eat on the ground just on the side of the greenhouse and the cats eat on the back side of the greenhouse. They are always there. No problems. The twins who disappeared used to get on the roof of the little feed barn and try and catch the finches on the finch feeder. They would get within a few inches and the birds were gone. So, I do believe, this is just another way God takes care of some problems. We will never know.
I have no word on the results yet, so if I am seriously ill, I am in trouble. LOL....What can I say? I know there has been no fax yet, that is another reason I wanted the results faxed to me. When I get them I know the doctor will have gotten them, then when she calls me I can ask her questions if I have any. It really is worth it to get your own copy of your results so you can ask questions instead of trying to listen to what they are saying and then after they hang up think of a question. I find it works for me very well.
Out to work on Christmas stuff. Later. JB
Hello to all. Yep I am still here. Guess what!!!!!! DH and I are now the proud parents of a 6 week old West German bred German Shepherd. He will arrive about the 22 of November. Merry Xmas to DH. If you remember we lost the last one to cancer a couple of years ago. I looked and looked for a purebred rescue shepherd, but only could find mixed breed. Seems like some of the breeders have become smarter and advertise for the return of the dog if you can no longer care for it. Sure do like that idea. I am sure we will neuter him at about 18 months. Don't believe in doing it any sooner, I think it harms the dog. Anyway, The SPV are doing well, the palms also. The oleander and hibiscus not so much. Don't know what is wrong with them. I actually saved over some of the spikes also. btw, if anyone wants some green giant caster beans, let me know. I have a few from 2009. Not much else tho. Maybe next year.
Be well JB and you also Dave. Not leaving the rest of you out, Well wishes for all
Lee
JB, I have never heard that about cats only getting unhealthy birds. I know it is nature that makes them predatory. Just have to live with it I guess. She could go get the voles and rats tho.
JB, Have you called about your test results? Wouldn't hurt to call and give them a jolt and remind them you are anxious. That's a good idea to get a copy. But, they sent me a copy of my blood test results last time and I had no idea what it said. It is in a language I do not understand. I think when they send a copy of the results they should include an explanation of each thing on their, in English.
Edited to add:
Lee, very cool about the dog. Does your h know it is coming? Neat Christmas gift.
Also, what are giant caster beans? I have seed for regular red, green, and black caster beans.

I don't know, but when I originally bought them that is what they called it. I do know the leaves get really big and the stalk is about 3" across when we cut them down. That is on a good year of about May to October. They were aprox 8-10 tall in our short season. I have not heard of black ones, do they get as big? I know the Green giant seed pod is green where the red/pink ones are red/pink. I have some of those also.
Yep, DH knows about the puppy, had to, he has to drive to the airport in Billings to pick him up. Now comes the fun of naming him. Want to do a German name since we are going to train him in German like we did with JOJO. So------ any ideas are helpful. Love things that are different. Will keep you posted if you want. or if you want a sneak peak go to www.omegashepherds.com. Click on puppies and go to the second litter available, check our Mr. Purple collar. He is ours on the 22nd.

Lee, Google German names for male German Shepherds.
I love German Shepherds. A wonderful dog. I looked at the photos. Great gene pool. I cannot have that large a dog any more. My friend has one and he is also trained in German.
Vern has a cold. His daughter and the three grand daughters will be at the airport at 8pm. I am going to pick them up.
Our weather is warming back up and the coleus have not wilted yet so that is good. I have purchased the Christmas tree lights but still have to rearrange that side of the garage so I can get the plants situated and the lights placed. We have had several items come up missing in the greenhouse so I decided against putting any of my tender plants there.
I had about 20 quail in the back landscape his morning. They were eating and staying in the sun. As the sun moved, they moved. They are very plump. Cannot tell the babies from the parents now. I throw out some bird seed on the crushed granite every morning.
Oh No, another photo of Luke.
I should block my hillbilly neighbors out with all those castor trees. My foster dog was eating the seeds from one of my poison plants one day, he was playing with the spiky seed pods. So I have reservations now. My other dogs never mess with the poisonous plants.
I love GG magazine and would love a few but they would be too much postage to ship. I too collect magazine for home and garden, have thrown many away after years of seeing I no longer like the style. That is how long I drag them around. I have cut my supply down a lot, but love a good rainy day and a big stack all snuggled in a chair.
Hope Vern is alright Sharon, it has been a rough year for you two.
I hope your tests come out good without question JB, it sucks when they want to observe something. I am just the person to say, "NO I WANT IT FIXED OR OUT OR WHATEVER". I have a small benign breast tumor. The surgeon said get it out because it is easy to find now and it will always be in the back of your mind if you don't. I had just had breast reduction surgery and my husband was still reeling from that. My surgeon for the B. R. was worried that it would mess up his great work so he did a needle biopsy and said leave it, but it does stay in my mind and I can't find it as easily now, so I regret listening to those men.
Lee, what are you training it for? Obedience or shutsan , Bob asked, but doesn't know how to spell it. Personal protection dog. So far he has suggested Bruno. More to come I am sure. He loves dogs.
JB, are you saying you never got the test results? You call first thing in the morning and tell them I want to know. LOL, like they would listen to me.
Dawn, You need to talk to a cancer dr. Not a husband or a plastic surgeon.
Sharon, that little guy looks older than a year. So cute. Bet he wore you out.
On another thread, RickCorey_WA just posted the following link which I think you will like .... just key in your zip code.
http://www.plantmaps.com/interactive-washington-plant-maps-zone-hardiness-map.php
Well, don't know where Rickey is Merry, but that map doesn't make sense for my area.
Thanks anyway.
Jeanette ..... did you key in your ZIP CODE?
It made a lot of sense for my area.
MARY
Ok, I see what it is, however, if everyone including Agriculture doesn't use it, and all the growers, what do you go by?
That site finally shows the way I buy my plants. I have always been in zone 5a according to all charts. This one shows 4b which is how I have been buying my plants for years after losing so many.
Thanks,
JB, haven't heard anything from you.
At our age, it will be obedience in German--Protection at our pace--agility at our pace. Getting too old to go to classes and keep up with everyone. We trained our last shepherd in obedience with German commands 12 years ago. I doubt we could do it at the same pace today. That is why we went with a puppy, not a teen dog. He will start with us old folk right from the start, and learn at our pace. It isn't like he will be our first shepherd, actually in 40+ years, we have had 6, so experience is ours :)
JB let us hear from you, I for one am getting concerned, even a short note so we know you are OK
Lee
Sorry gang, I just heard from my family doctor with the results of the Stress Test. It seems I have an abnormality in my heart which is not new thing. It has been there for awhile. Now I must see a cardiologist to get his opinion. What a crock of s### this it. So, nothing new showed up, which is good news. But now I need to go to a new guy and get a second opinion. I still feel fine. No problems.
Just so pissed off that I ever mentioned this to my family doctor regarding the funny feeling I had in my shoulders. I am 99% sure it is stress that I felt because when I was stressed today, I walked out to talk to my SIL and felt the feeling. No exercise, just anxiety and then the feeling. Oh well, now the Holiday Season will be getting appointments etc. I am about to say to H with it and do the doctor thing after the holidays. But,. my kids will not let that happen I am sure. LOL Talk tomorrow. I am tired and have some stress I need to get rid of. It took me the whole darn day from early this a.m. until after 2 P.M. to get the results, and then nothing new. Which is a good thing, but such a waste of time and money.
Now I am going to try and get my medical records regarding my heart from the doctor I have gone to for years, that should be more stress. I will no doubt have to threaten them to get them and if I do, God help them. I know they will charge me for every page, but that is only normal for NJ these days. I had a irregular heart beat years ago and I want to take those records along to the new guy maybe it will help decide when this thing happened. Talk tomorrow. Thanks for being concerned . Hugs. JB
It will be interesting what the other one will say. Sometimes I think they make things worse than if they just leave them alone. I think you need to put your feet up, have a gin and tonic and relax, That would be the best stress reliever for you.
How come it took them so long to get the results to you? Did you tell them the stress it caused you? Shame on them. If you have to fight for your files I would let them know about that too. You need to let your dr. know, not just the people working there.
I hate that. Now that you know it is the same, it makes you more mad than anything else to pursue it.
Gosh the zone stayed the same for me, though I heard USDA changed me to zone 9a, supposedly. A local garden center man told me.
JB, many women have heart attacks. The only symptom they had was pain in the shoulder or jaw. Dee, who is on the Iris thread had one dizzy spell. She, like you, works like a horse and has for years. They checked and her main artery going down was 90% blocked. She had no pain. Only felt out of sorts and got dizzy in the field one time. She is a commercial Iris grower. She now says God made her dizzy. The cardiologist told her, if she had not gotten dizzy, she would probably be dead. So just be patience. Your shoulder got a weird feeling for some reason.
You can tell Jnette is not a drinker. Tonic in your Gin. That is for teenagers, not real women...LOL....Jnette the only thing you put in Gin is vermouth, a lemon peel, an olive or an onion.
JB, be a good friend and keep your doctors appointment. We need you on here.
Lee, I have been looking at all the Halloween decorations on clearance for you but they are junk.
Dave, how are you? I got your message opened finally. Thanks and I will reply when all my company is gone late Sunday.
Merry, I will try your site to see what area they say I am in.
Later friends. I am up to my ears in visitors.
LOL, you are right Sharon where Gin is concerned. Never could stand the smell or taste of Juniper berries.
Yes JB, quit your complaining and get it over with. You will be glad you did. (mumble mumble, but I would still let them know). :>)
JB you just go ahead and complain. I, for one, would rather hear you complain than not hear from you at all :) Complaining just lets us all know you really are alright.and that is the bottom line!!!
Sharon, thank you for looking at clearance Halloween, but like you, I found most is junk, except for the Spirit of Halloween store. They always put everything in the store at 50% off, and that is where I get the new things for next year.
Jeanette, You are OK. I don't know anything about mixed drinks either.
Dave, where are you? Join in anytime, can't wait for your words of wisdom.
Later, Lee
Jen, I will complain all I want, in fact here is more ...............called the doctors office Medical Records Dept. for some results of old tests I want to take along to the new Doc. Give him something to compare since this is an OLD problem according to them. The sweet lady in the office must have been having a bad day because she was so rude to me I am going to write a letter to her supervisor as soon as I get what I ask for. I repeated the list of things I needed to be sure she got it and she replied " I heard you the first time". Tell me you would not be annoyed with a remark like that. Good thing I was not standing in front of her or I would have smacked her. LOL
All is fine today since I cooled down. I must get busy on Christmas stuff. Talk Later.
LOL, I am surprised you didn't drive to the office and smack her. Think I sure would have except then you, or I, would be sitting in a jail sell for assault and battery. And knowing the system we would be sent up.
It's Friday. She probably had a bad WEEK. That doesn't account for acting like that. You should type it up and send her a copy, and just to aggravate her, I would send it certified or whatever, to make her sign as receiving it. LOL, then she would need to be using the services of her boss.
Guess that isn't nice, but then I have never been accused of being nice.
Have a good day. : >)
BTW, the reason I said to quit complaining, is because I was afraid you would talk yourself out of going thru with the appointments. You can complain all you want.
You were not afraid of anything. You are just a mean and nasty person who verbally abuses old ladies. Honest !
( wink .......wink)
But, I lub you anyhow. U are my kind of gal.
Cat fight, cat fight, I want a cat fight. giggle.
Teach me elder woman.
The great part about this cat fight is that the cats respect and adore each other. I think. LOL
There are few people who I would even care enough about to tease and chat with in this manner. I think one thing you need to remember is, learn to know how sincere the person is you are playing with. If you feel comfortable with them in private chat, then you can play with them in public with their permission. I never ever play games with people I do not care about. I just ignore them. LOL Lesson 101 How to choose the cat you want to cat fight with.
Amen to that. I tried to play with a woman I knew on DG. One day, every thread I went to, which was about 6 threads in a row, coincidentally, this woman posted right after me.
I said to her publicly, "Hey am I going to need a restraining order"? and she said, "What is your problem, you are crazy", something to that affect.
I had people emailing me, "What is her problem"?
I was shocked. Humor does not always translate in print. Sarcasm seems mean, jokes seem like sarcastic digs. You do have to know your friends to play mean with each other in print.
Hey JB, you can cat fight with me anytime. I don't take anything Personal. You are right, humor doesn't do well in print, but we do have to try don't we. Hope no one takes me wrong, I would be so upset if I hurt someone's feelings.
Me too, but if you guys take me wrong, I'll fly over there and kick your butts with my big Brug that Jeanette sent me.
Brug vs. Caster bean----who wins????????
Poisonous vs Poisonous
If I do not pick on you, I do not like you. BUT, sometimes I have been misunderstood. But I will probably only get worse as I get older. I think that scares Vern and my children to death. More than once, Vern as been asked, "How did you two get together"?
Why would they ask that. He is quiet, I am not. I go 100 mph, he does not move. LOL. They say opposite attract. We prove it.
We both have a nasty cold. Vern got it and I got it two days later. Been along time since I have had a cold.
Great news, next weeks we are going to be back in the mid 70s. Great. Maybe I can finally get caught up.
Another photo of I wonder who?
Later Friends.
Oh No, I posted the same photo again. Sorry. Where is Dave????
Ok you caught me lurking a bit. I did not have much to share at the moment.
cat fights are ment to be posted on utube BTW
Yes we want JB around for a good long time.
not a whole lot of stuff going on here just been hunkered down especially today because of the front we had roll through. it rained all day and its suposed to hit 32 tonight. 1st hard freeze.... we will see if they are right finally????
Finally getting my room organized along with the rest of the garage. its finally all mine and I have treatened to break fingers. if they don't put things back where they belong. Its going to be a treat tomorrow as my BIL who thinks I am as dumb as a stump is coming up to visit. the Stepson is going to get heim to help him fix the breakes on his truck. I know the SS does not know anything about breaks because I had to finish up his work about 8 years ago when he was suposed to fix kims breaks. Some things I know some I don't regular breaks I do know. he needed an allen wrench and 2 huge clamps to get beyond his current issue.
well the clamps he needs I have in my room because tools started walking off and I was tired of it. I am curious as to how long it will take them to realize they need to compress the caliper to put it all back together let alone get the darn thing off correctly... oh goody goody goody....buahhh ha ha
oh yea this is the BIL who finally moved out. when he is around its just jabs of distain from each other. if it wasn't for the girls I would tell him really where to go and don't write becaus I don't care ...lieing sack of ?????
ok enough of that. I have4 flats of liners to bump up to 3.5" pots and then some other stuff to move up into the new 6" pots.
I may not get to posting a new thread till sunday...please don't hate me
Dave
Oh crap!! here it is almost 8 o'clock my time and that other cat is snoring!! I can hear her clear out here!! Otta go smack her and wake her up!
You're right!! I would have smacked her for you since you are such a wuse you can't do it yourself!! And I would send that to her certified mail too. Make the mailman get in this and get that signature for you. Then see the look on her face.
But you see, you gotta put these old ladies in there place to wake them up to see if they still have any kick left in them.
Dawn you are so right. As JB says (and I hate to say she is right)(snicker) you have to not only respect the person you are jabbing, but you have to like them. Otherwise it doesn't work.
But, email does not lend itself to sarcasm or joking around. I have found that out many times with a lot of different people, even my sisters who I have known for too many years.
LOL, think we woke Dave up and got his ire up. He is going to kick butt!! Everybody watch out!!
