Yes Lee, I always start mine in the house. I don't have any trouble with them but I know a lot of other people who do. You are probably right. We pamper them too much.
You are up early Lee. I see the cat just came out to join me. She sleeps on my bed but when I got up she came out here to go back to sleep on the chair. Guess she doesn't like being alone in there. LOL, well, better get off of here and get busy. I have to pull the rest of the tomato and pepper plants out today if it isn't raining. Too dark to see yet. I tried to get them done yesterday but got rained out. Or in. LOL
Also have to do some pruning and mulching in the garden. Still haven't done that yet and there is snow in the hills around here. Won't be long until it is down here I guess.
Plant propagation part XXIII based on my own experience
good mornin ha I made it
One more day huh Dave? It's raining here darn it. Wanted to go out and get some more work done. Bob went down to get a load of gravel for the driveway. That will be nice.
Other than that, it's a dreary day. Maybe if the rain lets up I can get some stuff done. Weatherman said it would be 58 on Tuesday. Amazing when everything turned black a week ago. LOL
JB, have you poked it? Is it the texture of a mushroom/toadstool? You should measure it each day to see how much it grows each day. Lay something down next to it.
Maybe that is it's head. Is there an eye? LOL, Or, just the top of the head. Maybe it's feet come up first. Does that look like 2 feet? Maybe it doesn't need 2 feet. Only one.
I posted because I am not sure how well this one will go. well we hit 34 but all the other area's froze. 2 spots got by with their temp was for. I closed up the GH yesterday and did a mad dash last night, I had to bring in a few loads of tender babies.
Oh course the bamboo had grown into the ground so at 9pm I was digging up the boo. luckily it was just the one bamboo, a hibiscuit and my Colocasia. The hibiscuit is taller than I am. I am planning to whack it back by 2/3. I know it will take it because I have done it before. here is a pic of the group brought in. Now to sort and trim, so they will stay out of the way.
well not much else going on... had a tough night last night.
Have a great day
Daves
Jb: Have you thought about getting an extension agent to come out and look at it???
Jeez JB, thought I was the only one on here who did Halloween Maybe it has rubbed off on you. :)
Jeanette, I am usually up by 5:30 each morn. I am a morning person, afternoons are for naps, aren't they. It is just that winter time, not much can be done, so that is when I do my quilting, crocheting, knitting, embroidery and so forth. Kinda hard to do much with 0 or minus cold. Just hibernate in the house and let life run by until time to plant seeds. Won't be much of that this year, needed some of the room for wintering over plants. It was so hard to pick and choose which ones to save and which ones to let go. The asparagas fern lost this year. I had three pots of it, and the runners were 3-4 ft long. Just not enough room. Oh well, another year, another idea. and more plants to choose. Lee
I am going to try to get smaller plants to keep so I am not filling half the garage with tropicals.
First, Dave, where's the picture. Second, Dave, why did you ask me for brugs? They are big tropicals.
Well Lee, I guess when it gets there and I can't do anything outside then I will get back to painting my livingroom. Bob started it and then went in to the hospital and is just about back on his feet, one more cortisone shot for him on Monday, and then maybe he will feel like finishing his wood gathering. He has cut, split, and stacked 2 loads but needs that shot. The drs. office finally called today with a cancellation so he can get in Monday. That's good.
Sure do wish I could find someone local to paint. Don't want someone just because they are out of work. I want someone who can paint good. That is hard to find in rural areas.
Sorry about the non pic. I did not mean to imply that I did not want the brugs. what I ment was that I have a couple of copperleaf plants that are huge and really don't do much for the back yard. Also If I can get my banannas to handle the winters here (a hardy variety) I can eliminate 4 huge pots that ar difficult at a bare minamum to move let along keep watered. certain plants are real important to me and others just don't really do much for me.
I love hibiscus but I can buy good sized ones for $10.00 in the spring and not have to worry about it all winter. he is huge and started life as a 6" pot last spring. its kind of hard to choose who will end up not making the cut. I would love to keep them all but I also have to answer to kims thought of fairness.
The banannas have not made it in yet and they are in 40 gallon pots (I think its 40 gallons) I know one is in one of those totes wally world sells with rope handles.
My niece noted I was not doing to well yeaterday as I still had most of the 2 bags of soil I bought the night before. Like I told her i really did not want to give the brugs any reason to not start. I am looking forward to having them in flower next year.
I think the plan is to mix in the tropicals that are kept will mix in with new hibiscus, hawiian ti plants as well as a couple of mandavillia. I just hope we get a big enough deck to give everyone the space they need
Jeanette I am sorry if I miss lead you about how important the brugs are to me. They are like the huge plumeria I have going. Nothing compares to the blooms a few tropicals put on.here is a pic of the hibiscus that started life as a gallon this spring. I really hate to cut him back but I have got to do it so he will have a fighting chance to make it through the winter.
The garage will be a lot warmer as we replaced the Man door and the garage door so its nice and tight inside I am hopeing I wont have to run a heater to do glass out there but if I need to I will.
What are the copper leafed plants Dave? No, I didn't take it that way. I just meant why did you ask for more tropicals that get so big if you are so short of room? I do see what you mean about being out of space to put your plants. Too bad you don't have a spare room that you close off and don't heat. Those are great to over winter tropicals.
My daughter has her rec room like that and she puts all her plants out there under lights and her computer, her beading, etc. and spends most of her time there. I know it sounds like she is a hermit but you would have to know her family.
Her husband works nights until 7 a.m., her son is taking his college on line and has tons of homework. Made the Dean's list., and she works part time at Michaels. Anyway, about her room, she does leave the door to the rest of the house open a lot of the time and has one of those small oil heaters near where she sits, she has a lot of florescent lights on her plants. She has plumarias, hibiscus, brugs, variegated monstera, etc. 12 feet of chrome shelving.
Now you know why she spends her time out there. She loves it. And the plants love it because it isn't too hot and dry like my house. Mine just do not do that well in here where the heat is on. It is too dry. That reminds me, I have to get some humidifiers going.
What are the plants 2 pictures up? At first I thought they looked like coffee plant leaves. But then I saw how they were growing and decided they weren't. I like your bamboos. My sister has one in her greenhouse she has to keep cutting off because as tall as her gh is, it still gets up there. She has it in a big whiskey barrel type planter. She gets lemons on her trees in her gh etc. She also had big red blooms on her brugs in there in the winter. But they were a terrible aphid magnet with the lights. So be sure you watch them and like I told you, I treated them for spider mites and you sure don't need that going so
KEEP THEM AWAY FROM YOUR OTHER PLANTS FOR A WHILE!!!
I got my Brugs and they are quite large, thanks so much.
I got some Mexican Petunia too that someone in Texas sent me. Would like to get a brick of that stuff you get Dave and I could also use a freeze Cloth thingy majigy.
You guys here Decomposed Granite or DG is naturally found on hilly/rocky land it decomposes and breaks down over time. It is better to use it before you put pea gravel down or better to put under pavers and Dough boy pools pea gravel compressed through sand as a base but it takes a long time to get things to squeeze under the DG. You get it much cheaper in a skip load at the gravel and rock quarry places.
Somehow I unwatched this thread.
I wondered why your weren't on here any more Dawn. Thought maybe we had hurt your feelings somehow.
I get a kick out of you saying the brugs are "quite large". I took those off of a plant that was almost 10 feet tall. I cut them where I thought they would be easy to handle and yet make nice plants for you because they have the Ys already.
Same for the ones I sent you Dave. Sometimes it takes an entire season for a brug to make those Ys. They will not bloom until they do. You cannot top them and make a Y. That is not a "natural" Y. You might make a Y, but it will not make it bloom.
So, if you get them rooted is the main thing for those brugs. Then if you treat them right, they should bloom as soon as you get them growing. I have gone entire seasons without one blooming. 'course my 'entire seasons" are pretty darned short.!!!!
Jeanette:
copper leaf are in the same family as chinile http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2589/
They can get upto 8' or at least thats how tall the ones were in south florida they used as a break hedge. They have such coppery red leaves. I have a small room off the garage I am working on getting set up for me and my plants. I have my cart in there and its not got a lot of room but enough for a small table to do my glass and keep all my shipping stuff on the shelves. I think I have enough room but kim does not think so. she "tolerates" the plants. I think she realizes if the plants were not here I would curl up and stop moving.
I am hopeing that next spring my ginger comes back from the sample spots I planted them in. If they end up coming back I will be able to plant more out there and give away the rest, but its too early to be thinking abot that now.I am planning on having 2 to 3 trays set up with tropicals and the rest of the spots with plants for next spring to get a jump on spring.
I do know once my mom get one look at the brugs and she will have to have some.
how big do they have to be to start blooming? how big a pot do you use to grow them in?
Dave
Those are really cool I have never seen them before Dave. There is a Copper Beech Tree that is beautiful. 'course it is an outdoor thing. Don't know if you could make an indoor plant out of it or not. Don't know why not tho.
The brugs will continue to grow as long as you have a place for them that is conducive to their growing. If you have them like I did, outside and they got so huge, you would have to have a place to accommodate them. You would have to cut them back if they get too big if you have them in the house. But in your area you cannot have them outside in the winter.
As far as how big to bloom? Read my last post right above yours, to Dawn.
Good morning sports fans...
well its saturday and I hope to get some stuff done today with my niece's help. I have to finish getting everyone into their final spot for winter.
I am also waiting on a shipment of 6" squat pots (6" x 4")same width just a couple inches shorter. Instead of chewing up an entire gallon of soil these pots allow me to use half the soil and have a similar sized plant. I am experimenting with them so we will see how much I like them.
Not much to add we are in the 60's and 70's all week with lows in the 50's so we are golden for the next week.
well gotta get busy
Dave
Dave, tell me about these pots. How deep? Where is the 6x4? They sound very interesting. Where did you get them? It sounds like they are 6 inches square and 4 inches deep. Is that right? And what are you going to put in them?
Everyone must be busy today?
Hey , I am here for a second, just got off the mower and am now eating a piece of pizza and having some fountain coke. YUMMY!
I have had the craziest people wanting to purchase plants this week. One man was from the UK. The other from Japan. The one from Japan would not take no for an answer. I told him I DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE THE CONTINENTAL USA. He wrote back and ask me how much the plants were. Am I crazy or is it that some people just do not understand.
I told them the shipping and inspections would cost more than the plants are worth. I do not do it. I did not hear from him today so I think he got the message.
The weather has turned cold here. Leaves are coming down by the bushel and the sun is still warm when it is shining. Nights go down to the 30s and days in the 50s or 60s.
Those pots do sound good. I had to transplant quite a few of my cuttings yesterday. They were only growing down and not developing all around. Not sure why except maybe I over watered them. I hope they start to recover. Their leaves were yellow, definite signs of lack of iron. The litle green veins were showing. The 2 y.o. aimees are loosing their leaves . I hope there is nothing wrong with them. I have cut back on the water due to the weather change, that may be what is happening.
Must balance my check book. See you all soon.Hugs. JB
Happy Halloween!
Jeanette ~ I am here, well for part of the day. I have been having similar issues with my desktop computer, though the difference is a land line. Right now I am using the laptop with the same connection, so it is possible that the problem lies in the desktop connection. Not sure if it is hardware or software difficulty. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the modem, but no change.
I really do not want to be on the phone all day with HP, before they send me a box to ship it to be repaired. Does anyone here have an HP? I would not buy another one, but for right now, I won't be buying any new ones for sure. I just would not recommend that anyone buy one, that's all. when something goes wrong with it, they have you taking the whole thing apart yourself and then telling them it still doesn't work after all the hassle. So now I will get my other things done first so I will be prepared for them and call early in the day.
Dave ~ Is your connection wireless or high-speed cable? Anyone else have the same problem? I have had problems with both the desktop and the laptop and had to ship them both back for repairs. Oh me....
OK, so I won't be on here for much of the day as I need to get a lot of things done as well as tend to the computer mess, but will do that one last as there is a potential of wasting a whole day on it before they send me a box to ship it to their repair center.
So, hello everyone and I hope that you are having a nice day. It is rainy here, just light rain but continuing probably into the night and mild temps. The snow level is quite high. I am surely not ready for that. I inspected the front border and a few things were stressed beyond belief. I dug them out - lirope and boxwood and heeled them into the basil bed.
I dug out 4 plants and put the basil into pots on the back porch as we have not yet had a hard freeze. I will have to cut the others again for (probably) the last batch of pesto, which Steve loves to make. We have got so much basil from that bed of 30 plants. Does anyone want a basil plant before they are dug up and turned into compost? Maybe Sharon or Dawn? Or those of you who have greenhouses or a nice sunny window inside. I hate to see them go to waste. I think they would be permanent shrubs in the right location, they just would be ruined by a hard frost.
Well....happy gardening everyone!
~ Evelyn
(Photo Steve took of me in Topanga Canyon - My favorite spot in LA county...)
Good afternoon:
The pots are 6" arround and 4 something deep. they figuire out to .4 gallons but I don't think the general public will care that they are a bit shorter than a gallon pot is. They are called Euro pots. I am getting the 15 cm ones. I found them originally on www.amleo.com but when I went to order them I could not find them again so I did a search and found them at
http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/Euro-Pots/productinfo/CN-EU/
The case is about $16.00 more than am leo's site. the good thing is they sell them in lots of 10 so I bought 100 pots. I also bougt 30 - 10" pots for my bigger stuff. Mainly the Chamaeocyparis and hydrangea's I bought in. Boy the 10" pots have gotten expensive. I have seen wholesale a dollar each.
In my search I found some pots where they make the pots out of chicken feathers.
http://cgi.ebay.com/960-Feather-Bioplastic-Flower-Plant-Pot-Containers-/270655062584?pt=Planters_Pots&hash=item3f044c8238
I really thought I had seen it all but making pots out of a foodsources by product sure make sense to me.
ok as for what I am going to use them for I thought I would start with some of my dianthus, salvia and some other perrienials I need to move up.
So what do you think about the pots?
Dave
I am on high speed cable connection
Evelyn I should be able to get the seed pods off the Red Castor bean any time now.
I would love some basil, I have some people here who convinced me to try herbs so I have a few and they do good here and take some neglect too and less than perfect soil too.
I have some areas that I could use to fill in with something herby.
I have some salvia I put in an Oatmeal container with the lid on and the darn things are growing. I will see it they can remain in there during the winter in a self protected mini greenhouse. They are small and it is tall.
Have you rooted Pyrocantha? I tried last year and lost them all in the very end of Winter.
Happy Halloween everyone. Supposed to be in the 50-60 range during the day, and maybe low 40's at nite. Hope the little ones come here early so they don't get too cold.
Looks like the SPV I started are all going to make it, provided they can withstand the lights instead of sunshine. And IF I don't overwater/underwater. Not so sure about the oleander, one doesn't look bad, but the other is dropping leaves like crazy. Mrs Hibiscus tree isn't looking too spiffy either. Maybe it is just the shock of being moved into the house. We shall See
Have a good one. Lee
Dawn:
I don't have much experience with pyraocantha except for the scar on my eye where the thorn that broke off had to be removed. So I have a deep hatered of it.
Dawn ~ I used to have a beautiful pyracantha called 'Cherry Berry'. It was a stunning clear deep red. The deer ate it on a regular basis, even with spraying, so I gave it to my neighbor. This was before the fenced garden area as our property is 12 acres and we cannot afford to fence it all. So, no pyracantha. Inside the fence we have veggies and 3 mixed borders: The Dark Side Garden, The White Flower border, and the new "Cottage Flower" border.
Dave ~ Sorry about that mishap with the pyracantha! Ouch! Did you get any feather pots??
Lee ~ You must be all ready for the hobgoblins and munchkins....it is Martha Stewart's favorite holiday, and I suppose many people that like to do crafts and have an eye for details love it as well....Happy Halloween...Dia de los muertos.... oh, what is an SPV??
Dawn ~ Do you get trick or treaters at your place? We do not, so years ago Steve used to hand candy out at the PO and donate some to the local church, well, that is what he told me anyway. I notice he would always include requests for some of his favorites...LOL! It got up to 52° today, and probably won't freeze tonight. If it is not too wet tomorrow, I will dig out some basil for you. Anyone else? I do not usually send any plants now until spring, but I had rather have someone use these instead of just making compost with them. (You want something "herby"??) Do you not use basil in cooking? My neighbor does not, well one of my neigbors anyway. The other one across the road does so I gave her basil plus a plant, too.
Sharon ~ How is everything at your place? I am supposed to be working and I am but took a short break to test the internet connection as well as the phone line. It seems to work pretty well for the laptop, but still not on the desktop. HP does try my patience, as usually I am very patient, especially when motivated to achieve a goal. I just continue until the conclusion is either successful or impossible. I hope that Vern is doing well....and you too!
JB ~ Sorry to learn of the plight of your Aimees. I hope they can be saved.
Merry ~ Sorry I did not send you any creeping phlox. I just have a small amount and may have to get more from Dave. Probably would be better in spring anyway. I really would like to have more as I have a lot of ground to cover in the "landscaped areas", as well as the flower borders. Do you have a "Haunted House" for the ghoulies in your neighborhood? Maybe you and Lee could enter a contest.....we don't get any children here as it is rural here and the houses are not near the road like in the cities. They usually go to Halloween parties at the local churches and schools in our area.
Well, it is almost time for dinner, so I will sign off for now. I really did not think I would be back so soon, and I might be gone for a while again, just to try and fix the other computer...I am not looking forward to calling HP. Dave what do you suggest? Just tell them to fix it without asking me any questions or making me take the d@*#& thing apart again?? I will do what I can...I might have to wait until Monday, but that's OK since I have at least one working.
(Anyone have any spare ajuga 'Burgundy Glow'?)
Evelyn: the issue with you computer sounds like a hardware issue with the modem. Being HP it really hamstrings the options with the exception of maybe an external drive that hooks into the usb drive. I guess my question would be, does everything else work well? Are you on dial up or high speed? One thing that comes to mind with the issue is if the modem is part of the motherboard. a lot of times the big boys go with a propritary part thats intergrated into the motherboard. Its been my experience that the computers that have as much on the motherboard as possible tend to have some of the bigest issues. I think its like haveing so many moving parts something is bound to go bad.
I have an HP come to think of it but our modem is an external cable modem. my meds mess me up so much that if I had to truely dig into a big issue with the computer I would be sunk. I know kim was looking at laptops the otherday. She was saying its time to replace ours so we can stay up with the hardware obsoletion curve. I know we will most likely get a new desktop in a couple of years. She is good about keeping up and not have any software cause an issue.
I think the computer folks set everything up to last about 5 years and then its time to toss out the old one and get a new one. Its a real shame how disposable we have become on all our gagets.
ok sorry for the rant.
I hope no one was offended.
Dave
Wow, you guys are on here in spurts. First I thought you had all died, what was that book? So, then I get on here tonight and I can't keep up. Amazing you are.
JB, My Aimee looks sooooooo bad. I don't know if it is going to live or not. Only about 2 branches look like they are still alive.
That is sooo funny about your foreign customers. Or would be customers. You should have sent one to the guy in Japan. He probably has plenty of money.
Hey!! Right in the middle of this, all of a sudden this disappeared and I got a full screen of IB advertising!!
Evelyn, that is a very nice picture of you in Topanga Canyon. Evelyn I would love to have some basil but it just is not the time of year for it here. If I had a greenhouse, I would have you send me a lot.
I have Wild Blue, which is a satellite. But, 2 weeks ago my router for my laptop went out so I googled it and found out the mfg was Cisco so I emailed them and they wrote back telling me which one to buy so I got it at Best Buy. Then I installed it. Everything works good now.
Dave, I like the pots other than the fact they are round. Square pots are much easier to deal with. I cannot find any square pots on here bigger than 4 inches square and 3 7/8 inches deep. Just not big enough.
Dawn, did you want Pyracantha? How much do you need? I might be able to get some. It roots down before I can stop it. Don't know if I have any out there now or not. I used the weed eater out there not long ago so might not be any. Mine is orange.
I don't remember the name of my adjuga Evelyn, but it has bronze colored leaves so probably isn't what you are looking for.
Lee, what are SPVs? LOL, are you all ready for the big night? When do you expect the kids? One of the towns here changed the trick or treating to Saturday so it wouldn't interfere with church. LOL, Bob says, "Isn't there anything that is sacred anymore"?
Yeah, my old computer from Dell - the Win98 lasted me 10 years! As well the APC surge protector. It's a good thing to have that especially if you are where there are frequent thunderstorms. We had a bolt of lightning strike a power pole that had one of those large things on them I guess it is a converter of some sorts. (It lit up the sky!) Anyway, I was on the computer at the time and all the power went dead. I wonder if the UPC protected me as well as the computer as I had time to shut it down and then unplug it. It was a long time ago but it was SO loud and scary.
I thought about getting another Dell, but went into Office Max and got the HP. I like to look at it, as the Dell I ordered online. I don't remember what I had before, but it was a "hand-me-down" from my BIL. That was before Windows...someone gave me a Win 3.1 to install on it. So I have been on computers for a while now...about 15-20 years I guess. Steve has his old Win98 Toshiba laptop and works all the time. Yeah, it's slower, but it works, and it was free. Any problems it had, I managed to solve so it has been running well ever since. It is nice when something does not have to be replaced every 2 years or so. I had to replace the HP printer as well. (You would think I would learn...) LOL! Thanks, Dave for your wise council.
Well, nite nite everyone.
We crossposted Dave. I think Dell might be as bad if not worse than HP. If you can set up your own computer how would you be able to get any help on the phone?
You are so right about the shelf life of appliances of all kinds. However, 15 years ago I bought all new kitchen appliances except the refrigerator, and got Jenn Aire or Magic Chef which is the same in dishwasher and compactor. The stove and ovens need to be replaced now. The rest might last another year or 2. But I also bought Jenn Aire washer an dryer and believe me, we keep those things going every day at least one load and haven't had to so much as change a belt on them. Knock on wood.
Cisco was wonderful with their router. Don't know what all they make.
LOL, that is funny Evelyn, now you and I crossposted. That was pretty good luck you had with the Dell. Can't beat that.
I bought a Toshiba laptop and once I got rid of Vista and installed Windows 7, I didn't have any more problems.
BTW, when you said that about your power surge when the lightning hit, my insurance agent told me my computer was covered for that. They would replace it. I told her I went after the power company when that happened with my TV. If they look at their records and show there was a problem that created a surge at the time your TV or computer went out then they will cover the repair costs.
I am here late. Had a really busy Thursday and Friday and the wind blew it's head off today.
We were awoke this morning by the alarm. If you want to wake up fast, that is one way. My feet hit the floor before my eyes were open. Vern immediately got the gun and headed toward the front door at the same time the alarm company was calling. I was trying to turn off the alarm without my glasses on, remember the password, and I had to go potty all at the same time. Talk about a zoo first thing in the morning.
Jnette, your beautiful, very large plant is planted into a pot and spent some of the day in a protected spot in the sun. I took a photo. Will post at the end of this.
Evelyn, as usual, you look lovely. My laptop is an Apple MacBookPro and I love it. I have had it repaired twice in town. One time it got drenched with a drink of Vodka and one time it fell off the washer while I was printing something and doing something else. Three things at one time crashed my computer.
Evelyn, I already have plenty of basil. I actually pick it and make bouquets. I love the smell. I have a purple basil that is beautiful. I think I have the Ajgua you are looking for. I will take a sample tomorrow and take a photo and post tomorrow.
Dave, I have received many plants in the 6" x 4" round plots. They are usually indoor plants. But I grow many indoor plants outdoors. I will check to see how much it would cost, the most inexpensive way to get you pots because I can get as many as I want for free from the owner of a large landscape company.
Lee have a wonderful time tomorrow evening. I have purchased many large candy bars so you all may be getting candy bar presents. No telling how many are going to show up. It all depends how good the guards are at keeping them out. We are the one of the primary targets for the loot. I love seeing the children but the grown ups dressed taking hands full of bars ticks me off so when I see an adult, I had therm a bar. The little children get to reach in the large hallow bowl and pick what they want. See Dave, we all have something to rant about.
JB, how are you feeling?
I was folding Vern's socks and took all the sock out o the drawer to just fold the whole group. At the bottom of the drawer was a 5 hour energy drink. I took it out to him and told him I had the other carton. I could go get about 5 and make him a great drink. I cannot believe he hid it in his sock drawer.
Jnette, I have a new washer and dryer. LG. I think together they cost about $2200. BUT, you will think you have died and gone to heaven. They both are front loading and you can buy stands to set them on to make them higher. Both washer and dryer has a steam setting. I wash the clothes, dry them and then put them back in the washer on a 30 minuter steam wash. When it is done, it keeps spinning until you take them out. Then you shake, hang on hanger and they just about iron themselves.
Lee, if your hibiscus is a hardy, they lose their leaves and go dormant. If it is a tropical hibiscus, you are looking at a dying hibiscus.
We are headed back up into the 80s. South West airlines is having a sale on tickets to Las Vegas and I know a nice place to stay but all the rooms are non smoking including the garden. Just a heads up. I will be in the house tomorrow so I will have more time for you my friends,.
Dave & JB, I have plants in water waiting to send your way. Remember, the Green grass like fern that you both wanted cutting of, well I have dug up about 10 plants for each of you. Just need to make sure you are OK with them being sent. They are small and go dormant in the winter.
Photo of plant from Jnette saved from the freeze. It thinks it is in Heaven here in the SUN.
Thanks Evelyn I have orange Pyrocantha too. Want the red one though. I just wondered if you guys have an idea how I would root it or if it is easy... Did it outside last year too late in the year and it died in the end of /winter. I think I should try it inside this time. If I could bend branches down maybe I could layer it. Just thought you may have an idea. I would gladly take some little sprigs Ev if they are already rooted.
Sharon, I really cannot complain about my Jenn Aire washer and dryer. If I leave the clothes in and don't get to them right away I just run them for another 15 or 20 minutes and the heat takes out any wrinkles there may have been. And to tell you the truth, I would not want a front load either one if I could get them, but of course the dryers would never be top loaders.
I can remember the very first automatic washer my mom got when I was a teenager. It was a front loader. A Bendix. At the time it was wonderful of course since it was automatic. But now, no, give me a top loader washer any day. Other than that, I am sure any new features are wonderful. Like the steam setting. That would be nice.
The red plant looks like it has been there forever. Glad it got a new home. Last year my sister had 3 of them that were twice that size. She wanted me to take them because she didn't have room but I didn't either so they ended up on the compost piles. Such a waste.
What set your alarm off Sharon? Did you ever find out?
Good afternoon everyone:
speaking of washers,my grandfather played a mean trick on my grandmother. her washer went out so she told him to get her a new one. he installed one that takes quarters to run. she had to deal with it for about a week. Its kind of a family haha...
Jeanette i have seen the square 6" pots I am just so ingrained with the round pot that I don't think about using lger square pots.
Sharon that would be great. I will start rounding up my pennies for freight. Thats a lot of the cost for containers.
So now you are running a B&B Sharon??? lol Its a lazy day and I really don't think I want to do much today. I do have to plants the mums we got for the fall out front. but thats about 10 min job so then its back to the TV.
I recieved an email from the chicken feather pot guy. he said he could build a mold/ for me if I ordered 25,000 pots at 17 cents each. I wish I was that big to where I could use that kind of quantities. well maybe in the next life.
well have a great day today
Dave
We have no ideas why the alarm went off. The wind was really blowing and that might of shaken a window or door. Any window or door that can be opened is monitored. It said it was either a french door upstairs, the french door in the breakfast nook or the laundry room door. It was probably the wind shaking one of the windows or the french door. Just enough to momentarily dislodge the contact. The security people said whatever it was corrected its self.
Jnette, that is sad your sisters went into the compost. If she ever get some more, I will pay her postage at the end of the system.
You two need to find the purple and pink one. It is beautiful and I could use a few more.
Dave, yes a B&B and the price is right. Free.. Only requirement is you go for walks and sit in the warm sun and soak up a large amount of vitamin D. Have two guests bedrooms. One with twin beds and one with queen size bed. One has private patio and the other has french doors that open out into the courtyard.
In our next lives we all need to live near each other where gardening is not such a chore and just garden our heads off and have fun. I do catch myself wishing I was younger and know what I do now about gardening. I think I could make some money. But I am an idea person. I need someone to take the ideas and run with them. At my Mortgage Branch I had just that and they did great with my ideas.
Dawn, I cannot stand pyrocanthus. In the neighborhood, anywhere we have a problem with a street scape tree, there is pyrocanthus planted. It sucks up all the water. And if I stop, when on my walk, to pick litter out of the area, the plant gets me every time.
Vern is doing great. Full tummy. Sports on all day and night. I have to take the dogs for their walk and then I will be back. Later. A rose in bloom on Friday.

No Dave, I meant 4" deep square 6 inch pots. Those wouldn't be bigger than round would they?
Your grandfather had a real sense of humor didn't he? My mother would have had a name for him. The old goat. LOL
Whats 25,000 pots Dave? We'll all come help you. LOL
Guess I had better get off here before you all quit talking to me.
