Miscellaneous Shots - Part 7

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yep, I think you can make it to the start of the Hamptons in 3hrs. (as long as the I495 is clear), usually going East in the am is ok, the earlier the better, it's heading West that you hit the traffic once you get to Nassau County.

Never been out there. Would like to do a long weekend with the family.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nice, love it when there's no one else on the beach

It's very nice & relaxing, mostly friendly down to earth people. Early Fall and Mid-late spring are the nicest times, less crowds, late Fall & early spring more for those who like to brave the winds near the shore. I can recommend a couple of good restaurants if you ever come down here, some like this fancy one even have their own fish & vegetable bins where you can pick your own ingredients.

Usually this upscale restaurant would have cost us close to $200 for two in the peak season, it cost us less than less than $100 in the off season last month..

Looks nice. My wife and son would love the seafood.

We were heading back from Montauk that day, my DW was off for the week and I had 3 big fish in the cooler in the back of the truck, (caught them earlier that am). I didn't feel like going home to cook and I knew DW was just as tired as I was so we tried this fancy Greek restaurant on the way. The place is so packed during the high season they have barricades for crowd control outside, snaking the line as you wait for a table, lots of fresh seafood. No waiting for this dinner though, and 50% off! One other mature couple in the place, nice & quiet, I had a couple of watermelon martinis and DW had a Pina Colada so if we had just gone for cokes it would have been less than $75.

- But since I knew I had those 3 fish in the car I ordered beef! lol!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Should have sold the fish to them!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Lots of yummy food. I like the gelato!

Gelato is good, less filling than Ice cream..

Sure you can come Pixie, bring your waders! lol!
- yep I recognize it, those guys can get very big & heavy too, the eggs from some of them are prized!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

We hooked it by accident, didn't realize what it was until it broke the surface. Took a few pics and quickly let it go.

Wow, a true living fossil, unchanged for millions of years, even before the dinosaurs..

- good thing you didn't hook a big one, you would have needed a crane to bring it up! lol!

The crane/ egret I don't recognize. ...I should visit the bird forum more often! (lol)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

There was a big one jumping....it was as long as me and would of took me for a swim had I hooked it!! LOL

Great Egret is what I think it is, either that or a Snowy Egret.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice celeste - sturgeon isn't it?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes Bill, so unique...my 1st time seeing one up-close and personal.

Thomaston, CT

I thought it was a shark! Easy to tell the bird if you see its feet....yellow feet for snowy egret, black feet for the great.

East Bridgewater, MA

Didn't know about feet color....thank you.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And Big Bird???

East Bridgewater, MA

Big Bird's feathers are indeed "poofy" looking, but endearing nonetheless.

There is no hint of mint.

Thomaston, CT

Just read today's nature column in the paper....writer said an influx of cattle egrets now in CT....maybe that's a cattle egret, Pixie!

Good grief! I had no idea so many people ran in that marathon.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Crazy. They stopped adding years ago. I remember when it was just a few thousand.

One more shot from NYC last week. This is now the Cartier bldg off fifth avenue. This ornate facade has just about every architectural motif going! Dentil, bead and reel, and egg and dart molding. acanthus leaves, rosettes, etc. Architecture student's dream!

Another gem - the Villard House. Right behind St. Patrick's on Madison ave. Luckily, they spared it when they built the hotel monstrosity behind it. Beautiful sandstone construction. The Municipal Arts Society used to be there. Not sure if it still is.
