Best/Worse/What did I learn/chat about our day!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Your mom Betty, that's kind of a fact of life, we eventually get old, sad but true. Sounds like she has one of those drs who doesn't candy coat anything, just tells it like it is.

We usually go up to Branson for my birthday and we've never gone to my mom's, the weather is usually horrible around Thanksgiving in Oklahoma. I'm wondering if he would like to go to Shreveport and do a little partying down there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shreveport...gambling???

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy with all the talk of a reunion (know it's not for 1 1/2 yrs..lol) but I think I'm going to make a list of all possibilities of what can entertain us, i.e. key places to visit, boat outings etc. and when we have an idea who may join in I'll post for them to fill, then, majority rules, what do you think...

Can't you see I'm SO bored, trying to find anything that will fill in 1 more hour.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

No we don't gamble, there's a dance club down there called Phoenix Underground, it's an old 10 story bank building where they imploded the top part of the building but left the basement where the vault was. Someone bought the building as-is and made this huge dance club out of the vault basement. It's awesome, and since the Louisiana laws are not as stringent as AR laws they're allowed to get some alcohol in their mouths and put a flame to it as they're blowing out at each other, plus they have silk flames and it's just awesome.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'd do it if I were bored. Anything to take up some time instead of watching the clock.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds like quite the place, reminds me of Nashville, the Stockyard, old building changed into many little dining rooms on the top floor, and the entire stockyard basement where they once kept the animals is now a dance floor and entertainment area...upcoming talent goes there to play, lordy, I enjoyed it better than Opry..

Debbie, remember the Opry??? now things weren't going the best for you today, that ought to bring a smile or two.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, my day is getting better. I have had 2 hours of sunshine out putting some bulbs in the garden. Had Izzy out also enjoying the sunshine.

I so loved the Opry. Can't forget when I dropped the bottle of Pepsi....and the guy next to me said something about not opening it til I get to my seat. We sit down and he is right behind us and said "oh no, don't open it now!' Had such a good time....very good memories.

Betty! I know what I was going to tell you....and it is important. There is "rumor" all over the news here....that they are closing the casinos where your Mom inhabits. Didn't know if that was part of the trip next weekend.....but there is arguing between the governent and the Reservation that owns it. Something about fees and taxes....a big mess! There are four or five they are talking of closing.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

NNNOOOOOO No closing casinos!!

Lyndonville, NY

Crissy, just in Upstate NY. There is a BIG fight on NY forcing the Indian Reservations to charge non-Inidans tax on certain products...aka cigs...and they are also supposed to pay a percentage of casino income to NY gov. for something. Well, the big fight has continued...and this was the last update I had heard.

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Debbie, not going to tell mom that nor my sister-in-law Linda that's coming to Hamburg craft show in November, only way she would come was if I said she could gamble while I crafted..yikes, that's not good news for gamblers is it? You mean the large one just before the falls in N.Y.????

Well I made good time coming home, have my stuffing made, thank goodness for these new fandangle choppers..lol..

Know I'd feel much better if I made my pies tonight vs. tomorrow morning, gee whizzz, getting lazy, would love to go and enjoy the outdoors, its 76 here right now, perfect day, but then calling for a perfect day tomorrow also..

Yep, remember the pop episode in Nashville...lol see, made you smile today didn't I!!!!

Crissy, soon must be your time to go home?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Betty I have an hour and a half, it's only 3:30 here, but there's a baby in the house :)

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, it is my understanding that ALL the casinos in the area would be shut down. But things are changing daily!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, will ahve to tell mom about that, maybe I can really make her day and say that the casino next to her cottage could be doing the same..

I'm ready for bed, got my pies made, dressing made and turkey will be ready to stuff at 5:30a.m. then on to the fruit, veggie trays, ham to cook and my veggies; if I'm a good girl I'll be done by 10am and ready to sit and enjoy my company....

Debbie, you'll be proud of me, no burnt pies..

Too funny, Ann and Melissa dropped in for a few minutes, she's having over 30 people tomorrow, I'm having 12 to 14, we both have same amount of food going on, no, I've got twice the pies, same turkey size..lol..don't want to run out of food, always worry about that!

What baby Crissy?

Turning in, long day ahead of me tomorrow..
Gab in the morning!!!

Betty, is Thanksgiving tomorrow.....or on Monday? The actual holiday. I know your having your dinner tomorrow I think.

I found out tonight that Jeanna and Joe are going to Canada tomorrow until Monday to celebrate their 2nd Anniversary. Staying at a Hyatt or such next to the tower in NF....has a water park in it. I might have to drop by and check on the grandcats.

Betty, enjoy your Holiday! So proud of you and the pies.
If I come up....will you make me a lemon merange pie? O;)

Verona, ON

Monday is the actual Thanksgiving Day here Debbie but like Betty we are having our turkey tomorrow. If Betty won't make you a Lemon Meringue pie Debbie I will - chances are there won't be much meringue as I forget about it and burn the top. Sound like a familiar story Betty?
Absolutely gorgeous here today but very windy. We still need to get the boat out of the water but will probably wait and do it next weekend. Gardens are ready for me to plant bulbs tomorrow - only have about 200 to plant. Sure hope DH feels like he wants to help.
Judy is Jake going to be making his famous breakfast this weekend?Hope you will hear soon about the UPS job.
Mary I hope you are having a blast. Are you missing Belle?

Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

Dianne - You have READ my mind ! I am SO missing my Belle ! (I call her Belly Belle when I'm scratching her tummy... lawd that pup LOVES to be on her BACK... and of course the jokes fly!) I called DH an hour ago to ask if the teens have fed her dinner... DH is not home... he is at the auction 2 hours north of here.... hoping he can drive in tomorrow in time....

MIL and FIL at my house (hope it's clean) with teens...

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Ya'll ! Crissy - GOTTA love those Louisiana Drinking laws ! (OR lack thereof!)

Deb - I LOVE soup too !

Yup - Our Columbus and Vets days aren't holidays for us that most folks are actually off for... Next big holiday will be our Thanksgiving....

SOoooo......... Reporting from the "sleezy Hotel".... had a LIVE spider in the bathtub... okay no biggie getting used to this place....but I'm reading a DMail from Judy....and

"POUND POUND POUND".... someone is pounding at the door ! Mind you...I've already got the heebie jeebies with this place !

"Pound Pound Pound " again... I've moved over to the phone and calling front desk.... "Yes?" I answer... "Laura" says this beefy sounding Man.... 'To Front Desk "I've got a man pounding on my door asking for "Laura"..... "Tell him he has the wrong room and to come to the front office".

SO then I was shaking like a leaf.... and some in part with myself being worked up at where I am..... I think it's all okay...l but got my heart racing for a bit.... LOL!

Today - Headed to practice at 10am.... There are 150+ past Dixie Darlings here from 1954 to 2010.... We practiced with a lunch break till 5:00pm !!! I am exhausted !

I've run into some gals I knew... ALso - right near me is the gal I danced next to in 2006... She was on the Team that year... then became captain...then graduated ....this is her first year back as an alumni.....

So a LONG day... I'll check back in a bit...

(((HUGS)))

I am so excited!

Well, I have some VERY exciting news. Our daughter Carrie, she called tonight. She works for a medical research company...and well, Carrie did a study, and wrote an article on it...and there is a small "blurb" as she said...in the New England Journal of Medicine with her name and all. She can't find it online yet...but soon as she does, I will have a link for you. I am very proud of her!

Mary...I would panic with the pounding on the door also! Good grief!

You will do great at the dancing....are they video taping it for you? We get a link, right?

Dianne...I am not worried about the meringue...I love the lemon! lol

Betty, everythng looks so good in that picture! Better watch the boys don't put fingerprints in it to see if it is real again! lol

Baton Rouge, LA

DEBBIE ! Congratulations to Carrie ! That is QUITE a prestigious publication !

I AM VERY PROUD of her as well ! Can't wait to get the link !

I won't know if I'll get a video or not .... depends on if DH makes it there... (UGH!)

Regarding the room.... would be funny if DH were with me....but alone.....not so much ! LOL

Yes - Betty - Practicing on this alone travel for your 2012 gathering !

Hugs,
Mary

Morning,

Been up since 4am, now 6:36a.m. and all is well in my world, turkey in the oven, all veggies prepared, even turnips are done into a casserole, fruit and veggie trays done..hey, it's time to sweep, wash floors, dust and voila I'm ready!

So far Debbie no burnt food but then the day isn't over is it..

Mary I'm so hoping that your DH does make it on time but it sounds as though you are making the best of things and will enjoy today with all your buds..talk about the mischief you've gotten into and it will be a reminder that your kids are just kids! yikes, more bugs than people in that hotel!!!

As Dianne said Thanksgiving is Monday but the only day I could get all my family together is today, so celebrate the goodness that the Lord has provided will be today's theme...my boys I know will shake their heads and say I've been listening to Joel Olsteen too much! that's ok, I've been truly blessed and I know who it is that has given me these blessings!

Dianne, my boys got the Foxy Lady ready for shrink wrap, bottom end is always taken off for the winter and checked over. We are both enjoying the same weather, I sure hope today is a day like yesterday because I'll make a point of eating outside..Dianne, can you even imagine that at the end of this month we could as in other years have snow and it stay?? not a great thought is it.

Oh Debbie, you've both reason to be on cloud 9, am hoping you can find the link so we can read it...and yes dear girl, as many lemon merangue pies as you want, lordy, I've been promising so much as an enticement for you to visit but still, you've not crossed the border, sooon I hope..will be seeing you next Sunday though, that's a plus!!

Well, grocery store in town opens at 7am, has a special on pop and my turkey is resting ever so lightly on a big cookie sheet, wouldn't fit in the roaster, hoping they have a tray and that I can remove turkey from oven and manage to get it into foil tray without burning myself..don't want to pull a Susan...

On my way to the store I'll drop off a pumpkin pie to Cathy and her mom..always nice to give thanks to those who have been good to you during the year...

Now if Roger was alive, I'd be making my usual 25 and going from house to house of friends this morning and dropping off a pie..funny how on such holidays traditions and memories of old come back..some bring smiles, some bring sadness but all in all, got to be thankful, that's what it is all about right?

Enjoy your day and because I've been a good girl I can come and gab this morning, providing of course there is someone to gab to...lol

Off and running!

Verona, ON

LOL Betty I made the smae run to grocery store. The place was packed.... lots of hunters buying the peameal for their trips to the hunting camp.
Going to plant bulbs and then stuff a bird.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you Dianne and Betty! May your day be blessed with good times, good memories and family! And may Betty not burn anything...including her fingers.

Betty, Carrie is the daughter you met when we were at the Craft show last spring. She was with her mother in law. She told me when she was 8 years old....Shannon had just been diagnosed with cancer....Carrie said she was going to find the cure for cancer and diseases....and thats what she is working on!

I have help this morning....and he is driving me crazy on the keyboard. Axl is tearing up the place and going to crash my computer. At what age do kittens slow down, ummm....wait...about age 8 years? lol

Be back in a bit
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

How blessed she is that she is able to follow her dream..prayers that she does have a part in finding the 'cure'! pass on a hug to her for me ..

Not sure Axl just isn't enjoying gabbing with us all!

Dianne, we must have the same flyer, the peameal is on at a great price here as well, met a friend while I was shopping and she said 'don't forget the peameal' BUT a bit too salty for me..

Talk about a Thanksgiving, who shows up to finish closing in back deck, yep, Bernie and co-worker, said he knew I'd be fretting about the snow coming..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, made the transfer of the turkey without a hitch, no burns, now if the rest of the day can go as planned I'll be doing happy dance.

Decided because of the older ones in attendance that we'll have snackies outside and the meal inside which meant I had to clean all the craft tables downstairs and set up for 15; that's one more thing done now off to dust and find something casual to wear, last year I got dressed up and got grease all over my outfit, lordy I'm sloppy..lol

Happy turkey cooking Dianne, just think when all these gals are working on their we'll be able to sit back and enjoy the rest!

hmmm had a plant grow at the bottom of back deck, not sure how it didn't get trampled when they cut all my vine down, couldn't figure out what it was, almost looks like a rubber tree plant but lo and behold this morning there are daisies..never saw a daisy plant like it..

Betty a co-worker of mine adopted a baby, cutest little girl named Bella. She's starting to crawl now and she had her partner bring her in yesterday, so we all got to coo and caw for an hour LOL

Yikes Mary!!!!

Debbie CONGRATS to Carrie! Excellent!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all you Canadians!!! I hope your day and weekend goes as planned.... Betty no burning food, sounds like your doing ok for now though...

I am in the middle of doing more horoscopes but the sun is creeping right across my screen and I can't see anything, so I'm going to have to stop for now but I'll come back to it later this afternoon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You might coo afther Bella and Jonathan and want to make one of your own Crissy!!!! lol

I'm on top of things, can't believe I'm walking around like a lost sould with nothing to do, now that's organized!

Bernie just left, doesn't think he'll be back for din/din as he and his helper have a snow shelter to do at his house but I told them I'd keep them turkey dinner for tomorrow when they are doing the windows.

Back deck now closed in, looks great and I'm singing 'let it snow, let it snow, let it snow'; so glad that project is behind me...lot of the neighbors are all outside today, taking advantage of the weather and I had them laughing when I put the Christmas sound machine on outside to test and it starting playing 'jingle bells'!!!! Bernie quickly told me to shut the *&^% machine off...shucks, can't have fun no how.

Victoria Harbour, ON

PET PEEVE...grrrrr

When someone goes through the trouble of making sure everything is just as it should for Thanksgiving Dinner, do you think it's not bad manners to call to see what time the meal is being served and tell your host that they'll be there at least 15 minutes before it's served???

NOT inviting my mom next year, nope..NO, how else can I say no, nada???

Lyndonville, NY

OH Betty! That is BAD! Mother or not...thats bad! Tell her 2 hours before! Mom we are eating early....Noon! Even if dinner isn't until 2:00! My Mom used to have me do that for them....or SF wouldn't show up til it was time to sit down....or say at last minute he wasn't coming. I understand your GRRRRR big time!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Betty, did you make that Iris step stone!!!?? gorgeous!!! BAD Momma!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Crissy, I did not get any mail??!! should I have??? email or d mail...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Goodness, everyone is so busy today! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada! Betty, those pies look yummy! Did you make me a pecan pie???

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Sorry-didn't read all the posts...

Betty-hope your Thanksgiving dinner with the family went well:)

Copied and pasted:
Sorry-have been a bit busy and really not a whole lot going on. We took Jonathan to the Drs yesterday for his 1st pediatrician appt. The Dr was very nice and everything went good. I laughed a little as I asked him how we knew when to suck boogies out of his nose and how often-such a new parent ??;) He gained another 2.5oz after coming home on Wed so he is at 7lbs, 1.5oz as of yesterday. We also asked to make sure the formula we are supplementing his feeds with is OK since he hadn't pooped since 6pm on Wed. We got a green light and he said to start feeding him a little more every few days. We took him to my work B4 the appt (I wanted to get my grandma a brag book too) and let some of the girls see him. We weren't there for very long since no one seemed all that interested.....oh well, I always said it wasn't the greatest place to work. For his first outing it was relatively successful. We had issues with him sleeping in his crib in his room. It wasn't light enough, so we bought a lamp...it was too quiet, so we turn the TV on the weather channel and set it to sleep for 15mins after his night feedings....his crib was too big, so we have him sleeping in his bouncy for right now....hoping to slowly ween him from these things instead of just drastically changing them over night. My mom has been having a blast with the baby. She talks to him, feeds him some times and even changes diapers!!LOL She does really love being here and has started to remember she has a camera sitting next to her:)

Imagine, should be singing 'all alone am I' who sang that??? lol

Mom/Jim and Aunt Muriel just said goodbye, OMG, got to tell you, my mom isn't in good shape, whatever she's taking for pain has put her into lala land, drug city..of course I had everything set up downstairs which meant she had to come downstairs to eat, I doubt she can life her foot more than an inch off the floor, no way I should be taking this lady to Buffalo on Friday and if I do it won't be much fun..shaking my head here...Aunt Muriel was cute, didn't get too many words in with my bunch joking around!

Greg and the gang are gone for a bike ride, Jeff's off to pick up a few guitars from Greg's house then back they come, althout Greg and family are off to Barrie for a hockey game..

Told them to leave everything the way it is, easier for me to do the clean up..

Thunder, yes did the stepping stone, I have the mold for that size stepping stone, few more in the gardens, great way to use up left over glass from my stained glass projects.

LindaKay, no pecan pie but they had enough choices, think I cut into 2 pies only!

Jeff said I outdid myself, turkey was juicy, nothing burnt..lol..'way to go mom!'

Going to clean for a bit then will be back to chat..

Stacey, some people just aren't baby lovers, I myself can't get enough of children 2 + but babies intimidate me, maybe it's the same with your co-workers. Is this your mom's first grandchild..bet she's loving every minute of it.

Verona, ON

Betty you had Yes pie!!!! The first time I had a holiday meal with my DH's family his SIL came into the room and said there was apple, peach, pumpkin and mincemeat pie. She went around the table and asked everyone what they wanted - all the males said Yes. I was shaking my head until she brought the dessert plates out loaded with yes pie.Used to love cooking for DH's family, DH is the smallest and he is well over 6 ft and 240.
I had an amazing experience today and just have to share. While I was outside planting bulbs Stormy my GS kept coming over and wanting to lead me to a spot in the driveway. Finally I followed him and there were wee baby snapping turtles emerging from their nests. There were 15 that I found and helped them on their journey to the lake. My DH was laughing at me saying I would be cursing them come spring when they come up to lay their eggs here. They love to get in my gardens and move things around.
Stacey you must be exhausted. Did I miss how Jonathan was doing overnight? How long does he let you rest for between feedings?
Sweet dreams everyone!
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Dianne - How old is GS? That is really neat ... was he able to help you with the turtles?

Betty - I have a feeling you are an Excellent cook....just not telling on yourself... LOL! So glad everything went great... I suppose your DMom's issues are the reason she ran late?

Stacey - don't get discouraged about the office.... maybe they had all just got fussed at or it was one of 'those' days.....So glad your DMom is so helpful !

Debbie - that is SO great that Carrie is fulfilling her wish !

Well - I am Physically WIPED OUT.... I've Never been so so sore... But I'm so happy that I went through with the weekend.... It would have been so easy to skip out and never have the experience....

I slept in....went to Cracker Barrell for "Brunch" (thought about Deb & Betty).... killed some time... then came back to sleezy hotel for quick break and was all dressed and about to walk out the door....Dixie Darlings meeting up for 3:30p Pictures then parade march to the staduim...but anticipated huge traffic plus needing to park & walk a long ways to get where I was going....

THEN... knock knock at hotel door "Housekeeping" immediately I was suspicious.... housekeeping had already come... so I said such....."knock knock" again.... "well are you gonna let me in?".... it was DH ! Sure it's cute how he surprised me... BUT I hope he knows he took days off my life from stressing over it LOL!!!!

So we went together... Made it to pics... (Will attach the group one which includes this Years Team). Parade into stadium... Game... Performance...

I am wiped out but again... so Thankful that you all encouraged me to come.... it was a Wonderful experience !

Mary, I am SO proud of you! Seriously, way to go! AND I am so proud of your DH too....even though he scared the bageebees out of you! Sounds like a great time....did you hook up with old friends you remembered?

I have had a weekend...yet again. Long story "short" had to go rescue DH & DS....DH's engine blew on the way to Rochester for a Rhinos soccer game. the car is a total loss from what he thinks, and he is quite mechanical.

So, after no sleeping last night...I come down stairs, do a few things like feed animals....come to sit and check my email. Notice my backside is getting "wet". Yep, one of the cats left a large gift on my chair....and I sat in it! I just got this feeling its going like this threw tomorrow....something just tells me.

I think it is time for coffee!
Debbie

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Are you right next to the dark haired girl, and two away from the white haired girl, or right next to the white haired girl????? Think the first one is right, but will wait to see what you say!

Sorry I've been missing....sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving, Betty. Hope you got some rest last night.

I went to a camping thingy with my girlfriend. We left on Friday and stayed at a Comfort Inn next to an Amish Restaurant (my kind of camping)...close to Bellville...anyway, the plan had been to get up in the morning and go to the campground. We found out that they were having a craft show (Prairie Peddler) nearby (they had been twice in the last two years, but they usually go on the first weekend and didn't realize it was a two weekend event). So we went there first...oh my gosh it was so fun! The whole thing is in the woods and they have these little lean-tos built for the vendors. Neatest thing I've been to in a while. I'm thinking it would be a fun girls day...PLUS I saw on a sign when we were leaving that it was like 3 miles to Wade and Gatton (think that's right) nursery, and I'm pretty sure that's the one that specializes in hostas. Man...wish we hadn't been there for that campout thing!

Anyway, the campout thingy was a turkey dinner (we must have been celebrating Canada Thanksgiving).. with the 5 turkeys being cooked on spits over an open fire. It was delicious...turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh made applesauce (also done over the open fire)..which I helped in doing the apples for, and then all the carry-in dishes from all the campers. yum..... All in all, a really fun time. Didn't get home until almost 10:00 last night.

So now I'm headed out to the garden...my hydrangeas are drooping. So they want me to water them....

I saw some really cool birdbaths made with portland cement and sand. They used different leaves and then painted them...they had them on stands....most were around $50, but some as high as $80. So...think I might try my hand at one...not sure what I'll use as a base, but something will come to me!

Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, typing from Greg's laptop, not sure I like how you have to type on the keyboard but it's better than not having access to computer priveledges

Jeff's trying to get rid of virus's on my computer, haven't been easily able to access it for weeks, heard him use a few bad words downstairs so think I'll sit upstairs praying that he gets it going before he has to leave at noon hour...

Was up early, crew is here putting in windows, hate to ask them how that is going lol because when I asked Jeff how computer was working I got the 'I just started, takes more than 5 minutes you know' sooo I'll let the guys do there thing, if by tonight I've open air windows I'll know it didn't go well...

I've a zillion things I could be doing but would end up being in the way so I'm watching a movie with Kyle, freezing because doors are open, windows are out..hoping to have all under control by late afternoon..in the meantime I'll work on the mat for Debbie, box up 2 swaps so they are ready to cross the border Friday!

Mary, give that hubby of yours a hug for me, I'm so glad he made it and you got to introduce him to some of your friends

Debbie, omg, you've always got so much going on, poor Paul, what will he do with no vehicle for work? sending hugs
