I once grew Dahlias in part sun. They were so pretty, but I moved and they got dug up before I could rescue them.
What's Blooming Late Sept-Early Oct
Humm I think I am just lucky !!
My Dahlias are not all day in the sun. The ones I have in the front they are under morning sun and afternoon shade. The one in the back on morning shade and afternoon sun. They are also by the sprinkler.
I just love them. They did bloom a little in the spring. In the summer they just hang-on with bright green leaves and at this time of the year they start to bloom really nice.
I like the smaller Dahlias. The larger one I have they never seem to get so nice like the one my friend have up north.
Beautiful! Do you know the name of the clematis?
This is Jackmanii Clematis

I have 2 of them and the blooms are different shades, unfortunately the livestock have pruned them back for me. LOL
I love batface cuphea. It isn't winter hardy here so I always buy one each year.
Interesting on the Jackmanii. I know mine changes alot in size and how light and large the bar is, although the flower is always darker than yours. The one on COTW is similar to yours. Glad I didn't bet anything on naming it! http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=237
Did you buy yours locally?
I may have bought my Clematis at North Haven Garden www.nhg.com.
In my opinion the best nursery in the DFW area and with an excellent FREE learning program.
That is a wonderful nursery. I don't get out there too often.
OOoooo, I like those
Cheryl the other yellow daisy is Skeleton leaf Goldeneye, Viguiera stenoloba It is almost evergreen and a very good plant to have.

Yes, I got it from the Arlington fall plant sale. It has done well in that bed. I tried a lot of other plants there but I realize now that the ones doing well are pretty xeric. I am currently taking out the struggling plants and putting in ones that can do well in sandy soil with really quick drainage. The bed was supposed to be for veggies but that didn't work at all. I have some agastache and chocalate flower to go in there. Unfortunately I have to take out the cowpen daisy to make room. I did save seed for next year, those are plants I want every year.

They grow very easily from seed and you'll probably find a few volunteers in the spring, even if you pull out the plant this fall.
I saved seed but I noticed that each flower head only really had a few. I was wondering if that was normal? I would like to grow a whole row of them along the back fence where they can grow crazy and flop over as much as they want.
C
Yes, they do self seed very well, I usually have enough for myself and everyone else.
If you let them get really dry on the plant, you'll get about 10 seeds out of each head. I'll save some for you from my stash if you need them in the spring.
Do you put the seed out in the fall or spring?
You can sprinkle in late fall for the spring, but they come up once it warms up some.
Judging by the fuzzy leaves it could be Ruellia humilis or Ruellia caroliniensis,
Both are wild petunias.
Pretty!! Most of the normally spring bloomers will actually bloom repeatedly or again in the fall if they're not mowed down.
Since you're in DeLeon, you'll have to join us at the spring North Central Texas round up! DeLeon is a ways west of Arlington, but we'd love to have you.

Thanks for the great ID, Josephine. I'm going to choose Ruellia humilis since the leaves are fuzzy and the pics I see of caroliniensis on davesgarden and elsewhere are not fuzzy. The ones I found are few and far between and are in a very old cemetery and are probably so tiny because of past mowing.
That looks like a penstemon.
Very pretty, and it does resemble a penstemon but it is one of the possibly Agalinis edwardsiana

Josephine, I think you nailed that one for sure. Thanks very much. You're on a roll.
Where is De Leon?
You are welcome, I used to have Agalinis, it volunteered on my wild flower slope, but lately it has disappeared, I guess the larger plants overpowered it.
I hope it will come back, I think it is lovely.
