The tall cosmos are putting on a show. I've enjoyed having these in my garden this year.

I have enjoyed this red shrimp plant in my garden for the past 2 years. I got it from Smock at the '09 NCTRU in Arlington. It's just loaded with blooms!

I saw this today while cleaning up the bed.

The cowpen daisy and tall ruellia are always in bloom this time of year.

My cowpen daisy was about 5 foot tall, maybe 6! I think the size of those is more managable, what is the difference?

This one only gets afternoon sun and reaches towards the sun. I don't mind since we don't normally park on that driveway. Personally, I'd like to rip out the concrete and have more gardening space. :)

Whats the white flower? I riped out the lawn so I would have more gardening space, why not the driveway?

These pictures are all so pretty and full of ideas for me! Thanks!!

StephanieTX -- question -- what are the possibilities of getting some pink skullcap seeds from you. Your picture of Zexmenia and pink skullcap is so pretty together. I managed to acquire a Zexmenia at the roundup and that pink skullcap you have in front of it is beautiful. I'm thinking that when I plant the Zexmenia, I'll scatter a few pink skullcap seeds in front. Think that will work?

Oh, my gracious, does cowpen daisy really get 5-6' tall. I also brought some of that home. And thanks for that picture too, I was wondering what a cowpen daisy was -- also acquired one of those at the roundup.

Lisa~The white flower is a white coneflower. I grew these from seeds, so I was pleasantly surprised when one turned out to be white.

Brenda~It's very difficult to collect seeds from pink skullcap, but I'll try. Otherwise, I can bring some for you in the spring. I did winter sow some pink skullcap successfully last year ('09) so it is possible to grow from seed. BTW, I brought some pink skullcap home from the RU, so I could've given you some!

Yes, the cowpen daisy can get that tall, but I've grown them in a lot of shade and they don't get that tall, but they do flop over trying to get to the sun.

My pink skullcap is making a reddish berry looking thing. Would this be a seed head (or whatever it's called)? If so, would I let it try on the plant or cut it off and let it dry? If anyone knows the procedure, let me know! If I get seeds, I would gladly share them. See picture of them above from Oct 12th.--there is a round red thing lower left of center.

Cowpen daisy-take a look at the pic I posted above, that is one plant and the stem that has not flopped over is a bit taller than the 6 ft fence. That makes it a little over 5 ft tall (the bed is raised about 7 inches).

Most of my roses are blooming as well, but this one is really putting on a show. Has bloom well starting from midsummer on, but for the past two week Sunrise has really been blooming it's noggin' off!

Pink skullcap doesn't develop berries. The seed pod is a bladder-like thing. They are very teeny tiny and hard to see. I also didn't see any pink skullcap in your post on the 12th. I did see lantana and they do make a little berry type thing.

I'll take a closeup of it and post tomorrow. Thanks for your interest!

Oh crazy me. I just called it the wrong thing. I meant my TURK'S cap has a berry-looking thing on it! I also have skullcap--no seeds. So I'll post the picture of turk's cap "berry" tomorrow and someone can let me know if this is holding seed.

The little round pods on turk's cap are it's seed pods. They are green when inmature, then turn dark red.
