What's Blooming Late Sept-Early Oct

Arlington, TX

I think the pics on here look great! I did a lot of editing and redoing of beds and I think it was still too hot when I moved the plants. First time I have ever had a scullcap die. Live and learn but I do have a few nice looking plants right now. Esperanza is lovely, cowpen daisy is wild with flowers so the yard is not a total waste land. I am already dreaming and planning for spring. Hope the plants don't all die.

Really, Anna, you have the red gomphrena too? I just love that. I have only ever seen it in purple or white before--how did I miss it? Must be something you guys grow out there in Ft Worth (bg).

LOL LOL LOL Anna is who I got my start from a couple of years ago. There's a story behind that.

Love the photos! Everything in my yard is loving the nice temps and sunshine right now, there has been a real explosion of growth and blooms. I love fall in north Texas. :-)

Great pics of the slope Josephine....those obedients seem well behaved in with the frostweed. Great combo.
We took out a pear tree, redbud and later a vitex that have been blocking sun. I plan on giving my neighbors crape myrtles a haircut...they are way over the fence. We also added another arbor this week, so appreciate the cooler temps.

I am trying for more sun in the backyard....I don't have many blooming plants back there I am sure because of too much shade. So next year I am hopeing to see a difference.

Sheila, when you and Herman finish in your yard, feel free to come work in my yard! LOL

Nice that they are blooming, but hope they aren't predicting something.....
My white rain lilies were blooming yesterday but forgot to go back with a camera.

My pink rain lilies were blooming yesterday also. I couldn't get a good pic of them, though.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

so hurricane is the same as schoolhouse? If so, I would say they bloom after the hurricane!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, Anna. Hurricane, Oxblood, and Schoolhouse lilies are one in the same. They bloom sometime around/after Labor Day, which is the height of hurricane season and when school used to start.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Right you are...they bloom after the rain....my bad.

The wild morning glories are starting to bloom. They show up every September.

When I pulled out some other plants in my front flower bed, I found this purple cuphea plant. Not sure if it's a volunteer or if I planted it in the spring and forgot about it. LOL

I'm enjoying these pics so much. I have bags of seeds for zinnias and cosmos. Why didn't I sow them? I usually do but I kept putting it off this year. This summer went too fast, but I am enjoying the cooler temps

Finally got a good pic of my Esperanza! I thought we'd lost it this past winter, but it came back! Not as big as last year, but it came back, so I'm a happy camper.

drthor, I like that red and white candy striped dahlia. Do you grow your dahlias in shade? Do they need some protection from the sun?

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I've never been able to get dahlias to grow here. What's your secret?
