Last one I am sharing......the DH started these from seed earlier this spring. They were on the deck but the sun was too much for them so I planted them in the garden.

Very nice Sheila.

Lovely! What a great time of year.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Anna is this the same one you have? All my tag said was Mrs Duelberg.

Yes. That 's it!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I love that plant! Does yours reseed well? I think it is my soil in that bed, mine doesn't. I will be ammending it and clearing out some unwanted weeds this fall.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

I've been wanting to try Mexican Petunias. Are they perenial?

Brady, TX(Zone 8a)

terri, short answer is yes, based on my experience with 2 or 3 different varieties. IMHO, make sure you want them as they're 'invasive' and unruly.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

If you have the space for them, they will take over. The seeds propell themselves in all directions and reseed prolific. I have the tall pink and white also.

Beautiful, Sheila! I always enjoy the pics of your gardens.

The ruellia (Mex. petunia) die back in the winter but come back very reliably in the spring. They increase very well, emphasis on the very part! LOL They're not as bad as the tall ruellia, though.

Arlington, TX

I had the tall and short Mex. petunia but got rid of them. I really had to work at the tall and still have some of the purple and pink short varieties blooming in sidewalk cracks. To me they are not really worth the trouble. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think mine reseeds, but I change my mind on where it should live and the plant grows large so I end up dividing it.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Agree. When I moved in this house there were 3 Mexican Petunia plants in my back yard.
I never looked at the back yard because I knew that in one year I'd remove everything and landcape my Italian garden.
In one year the all back yard was full of Mexican Petunias !!

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! Maybe I'll avoid the Mex. Petunias. But I think I will try the Zinnias. I can always just put them in the veg garden. They would look pretty maybe with the tomatoes ....

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, just trow the seeds in mid March ! You will be the envy of the neighbor.
I keep trowing the dried flower heads too, to have Zinnias untill the first frost (mid november)

Just want to let you all know I'm lurking, and really enjoying all the pictures.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

drthor, did you buy the mixed packets or one variety?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes...same question...it isn't clear on the website.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Shelia, maybe if we decide to buy, we can share

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes I buy the Dahlia seed mix ... plus some of the other ones too.
i also had great success with the COSMOS this year, the smaller ones.
Some thing, you just trow the seeds and wait for flowers ... yeaaaahhh

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It's a deal Anna....I will go for any you want to try...I have a big yard and no large zinnias this year. I have plenty seeds of the small ones like in my picture if anyone wants to try those.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

did you collect those seeds in the fall last year? I always buy those as plants each spring. Maybe I will try to collect seeds.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Stephanie, I just love that red gomphrena. Do you by any chance have seeds you can share?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes the seeds were from last year, but I think they will make this next year. They are pretty prolific....they fall into a hanging basket from the top deck to the bottom one as we dead head and before you know it there is a plant.

Pbtx--Are you coming to the RU? If so, I could bring you a plant. I don't think I have any seed from last year, but I'll check. If not, I'll have TONS this year. It's another very free reseeder. At first, it was aggravating, but now, I kinda like it when it pops up unexpectedly somewhere. As long as it stays out of my neighbor's yard, I'm okay. LOL

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Zinnias and Cosmos have to be the 2 easiest things to grow from seed. I buy the Zinnia "Cut and Come Again" seed ($1.99/packet at Calloways or similar nursery) and they give me months of troublefree color. The butterflies love them and when they go to seed the Chickadees love them.

This is the first year I've grown these dahlia type zinnias. I've thoroughly enjoyed them, but didn't realize how huge they got. I planted them near my veggies to attract the bees, but I also attracted this pretty garden helper.

Stephanie, yes, I'm coming to the RU, and a plant or seeds either would be fine with me. If it's easier, though, we could just trade in the spring. By the way, the aster I promised you is definitely not going to be ready to dig before the RU, so I have it on my list to save for you for spring.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I am enjoying everyone's pictures. My beds are looking pretty spent right now. Can someone tell me if I should cut back my leggy looking salvias and black eyed susans? Will it cause a growth spurt that would be bad for them this late in the summer?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Pbtx--I'll bring you a little plant if I can find a little one. LOL I'll check my seeds, too. If it doesn't work, then we'll do a trade in the spring.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I have lots if you can't find one.
