Susie what did you do to your arm?
I don't feed any of my plants during the winter, only when they start to show signs of growth in the spring, and then only once in awhile, they get more when they start to bloom! I do water them as long as they are growing, but if they go dormant, I water them just a little once a week or so.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

So Cut the leaves off the bulbs For they have new growth ??
& trying to reach for more light , thank you I will store them .

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

thank you LK they say it is a prisidus ??? or inflamation in the tenden of my are not sure why but it hurts to move my arm so i get the cortizone to help heal & for some reason this shot has not fazed the pain at all .

well off to store my bulbs :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ah, I think you mean bursitus? I have that too, and it is not fun! I have it in my left shoulder after I fell a few years ago. I had what they called frozen shoulder for about 6 months, and the Dr, wanted to put me to sleep so he could break my arm, and re set it! I told him NO THANKS! It finally started moving on it's own!
Hope that shot kicks in soon!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I water and fertilize everything like normal, but I have them in the solar room and they get sun all day long (that is if it is shining...LOL) or glare from the snow. EE's and brugs together are a giant mite magnet! Not sure that is a battle that can be won. Like you Debra, off with their leaves if mites show up, only cure I have found indoors.

Debra you are filling up the plant station it looks like....they sure all look like they are in good shape.

Well on craigslist last night I found 9 windows 6ft by 3 ft! Dragging DH kicking and screaming to look at them this evening. Sounds like a perfect Greenhouse to me, for not much money! Oh, I hope this works out, I know DH is not keen on using old windows but.....cost is an issue.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure hope you get them, they will make a nice greenhouse!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I wish I had A solor room but Guess i will have to win a lotto for anything like that & Like that will happen
when ?????? Sure no SUGAR DADDIES In My Life :))) .

Ok so to prevent Any Mold or Bug fungus On these bulbs Would it be ok to Put a small amount OF sulfer On these like I did for the Dahlia Bulbs ???

LK You are right bursitus is what i have & Yes it is very painfull .
got to try an ice pack this afternoon .

thank you all for the tips
susie

Hope you get them too, happ. That website is awesome, lots of good ideas. I keep trying to convince hubby we don't need so much yard and it would be much easier in more ways than one if I had more blooms instead of having to mow grass. Just did that last week-end and think it might be the last time this year.

Susie, my mom used to get cortizone shots in her knee for arthritis and remember her saying they took a day or two to kick in and that the shot itself was often worse than her normal pain. I'll be cutting leaves off the EEs and storing bulbs. Same for the Cannas after our first frost and will store the rhizomes. The jury's out on the Dahlias, so pathetic this year.

What medium are you guys using to store bulbs? A few weeks ago I picked up one of those blocks of aspen shavings in the pet dept and used some when I stored Caladiums. I let any cuts heal over and dusted all of them with a dose of sulphur powder before packing.

Don't shoot me but I bought a 50' slinky hose and will let you know how much a mess it makes...lol Half-price so what heck, just a sucker for sales.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I am letting my caladiums dry in their pots, they are in the closet in the Basement. Havn't uprooted the dahlias yet, and the brugs that are blooming are still in the ground, will get them out this weekend. Those windows sound awsome! Here is hoping for you. wish my dh would even think about something like that, I am just grateful he helps bring stuff inside and downstairs. My night blooming jasmine got huge, it is like a small tree shrub. My aune effie and my mil that are both deceased used to go get those shots. they hurt they said. I hope you feel better soon, susie.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those shots hurt so much, because they have to get the needle into the joint!

Our Siberian Husky has been really sick over the week-end, and we finally got in to see the Vet yesterday afternoon. Still don't know what is going on, but he said his blood levels showed some infection, so he gave us anitbiotics, and some pills for his upset tummy! He said if he is not better by Friday, he may need surgery! The bill was bad enough at $250.00!!! Can't imagine what surgery will be! OUCH!!!
Now what makes us mad, is I ask him what the surgery was, and he said he just needed to go look, and see what is wrong! I told him he is not going to open him up and go look, Kooshy is 12 years old, and I don't think he could handle that! So we are all upset, and don't know what to do. Lets hope these pills to the trick at what ever is wrong??

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Awwwww Linda Kay. I hope the medicine works. *fingers crossed*

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks, me too!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

LindaKay, I hope your dog gets well. We just had one that almost acted like he had the flu. DH was going to take him to the vet yesterday, when Shortie started acting a little more normal, and today he seems alot better.

Well, we went and looked at the windows. Now do I want to force the issue, DH thought the price was good and the windows looked good, but..................moving them, and then storing them until I use them. We have big outbuildings so I don't see storage being a problem, except it invades his space....give me a break! As far as that goes put them on a pallet and tarp them.....so now my decision, he won't say no, but I know from many years of marriage I do not have his blessings.....LOL That wasn't a surprise tho........

fotv, the hose may work for you. I had three problems, one it leaked when I hooked it to the faucet, second the squirter end was odd and didn't put out enough water and dripped, third it just barely reached and maybe that caused my problem, it must of been 20ft and by the time it went from the laundry room, around the corner it was a tad short.

I am not digging dahlias until frost. I think I will get everything else staged closer to the garden room just in case we take a dive...LOL I just have a couple of things left.

There are lots of plans of greenhouses made from used windows. I found my windows on craigslist for little of nothing. If I don't get these, I will just start buying smaller windows (that I don't need help with) and start building.....short of muscle power, I can use a tape measure, saw, drill, and hammer with the best of them....LOL Smaller windows I won't need extra muscle.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Let us know how Kooshy's feels after his round of meds, LK. Sure hope they do the trick and he perks up for you. It's a helpless feeling when we don't know what's wrong.

Our bathroom upstairs is pretty much in the center of the house so no problem the 50' slinky will reach and since it's new that sucker better not leak anywhere...lol It has several dial settings like shower, jet, and mist. I just don't want to be the one taking an unexpected shower at the stairwell. happ, It would be cool if you could find sliding glass doors and / or jalousie windows to use for either the roof, sides, or use a combo. You could open them with ease on warm days and have the benefit of extra ventilation. One of these days, girl, we're both gonna have a greenhouse, either by hook or crook.

Edited to ask: How's that sun room looking, Maggie?

On vacation tomorrow, haven't decided what to do about the windows yet................still plotting, really trying to figure out how bad I want them...rofl. I'm afraid I really want them.

LindaKay, how is your puppy? Hope he is feeling better. Does he have the big blue eyes? It just dawned on me you have a husky in Texas.....I had a St. Bernard when I lived there, we moved there from Colorado and the St. came with us of course. Anyway I sure hope he is feeling better.

fotv, mine leaked from the beginning to the end when I put them out by the mailbox for recycle. Hopefully and probably yours are made better, cause it just seems like a great idea. I sure didn't have that many options on the watering end, that is really nice.

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

The sunroom is a probably the happiest place in this house. I got my plants in pots, but I had to combine some because I didn't buy enough. I'll get more, but I was afraid if I moved them too much in just a few days, I'd kill 'em. I'm going to let them get established good then I'll give them each their own pot. Fruit, you had a note on one telling me to remind you to tell me the name. It has red/purple wide leaves. Remember? I still need to take some pictures. I always remember after the sun goes down and it's not as pretty in there.

Thank you again! :)

I'm off to give my baby a bath and get everyone in bed. Tomorrow is busy. I have a dr appointment to get MRI results, stupid physical therapy appointment that doesn't help,
and then...the best part of my day... the septic people are coming over. Have you watched
that movie "The money pit"? I didn't want to buy this house, Keith did. Ughhh! I need a drink.

Sweet dreams, ladies!

Well, the meds are working, andhe has not gotten sick to his tummy today, and he has stopped the diareah. But he is still moping around, and not eating much! He acts like his teeth are sore, and is hard to chew anything? I have to call the vet back tomorrow, so m aybe another visit is in order?
Blue eyes???? His eyes are almost grey!

He is beautiful. I just wanna hug him.

Duke got a bath, college girl came home last night, she made two loaves of pumpkin bread, decorated thehouse for halloween, and then dressed poor Duke up. He is so funny with those girls.

Karoosh loves hugs!

Oh I love your little squirrel, I mean puppy... LOL! So cute!

Morning everyone, hope you all have a great day!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

LindaKay, he is beautiful. We have a friend that is a dentist and the vet we go to called the dentist and ask him if he would work on one of the dogs. The dentist friend was more than happy to help with the dog, can't remember now what was wrong.

Duke is so funny, he puts up with alot from those girls I would say....rofl.

Waiting for the sun to come up farther so I can go play. It is in the 40's so it is cool but suppose to get in the high 70's. Another great day.

I am in several swaps so gonna work on those packages today, along with DH on the windows.....LOL

Have a great one.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Maggie, that's a Tri-Color Ginger rouxcrew split with Neener and me last month and had enough to divide with you. The Money Pit...OMG what we've spent remodeling and adding on would have nearly bought a custom house, preferably on some beach...lol

Same here, boy is this my kind of weather.

Mickey says "boo" to you and the pooches. He really likes to play with big dogs, had a Husky friend in WV named Rascal and a Beagle named Lucy everyone called BOB.....Big Old Beagle...lol

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

LK we had a lot of trouble with our husky and GI problems. I made a lot of hamburger and rice meals for that dog in his lifetime. He was always a finicky eater. I feel for you and have been thinking about him all day. Hopefully he'll be feeling better soon.

Maggie every house is a money pit. :0) It's called "maintenance". The older the house the more you maintain. Hope your MRI is OK.

Debra I can't believe your dog allowed himself to get dressed like that. If we tried that here, someone would probably be missing body parts. :0)

Hoep you had a fun day off Happ and that you get those windows. Isn't it funny how we all have ways to get around our spouses. Ya just have to learn how to work it. :o)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Mickey is so adorable. He looks cold. I think he needs me to cuddle him warm again. ;D
I tore out one half of th tomato/morning glory north end tonight after work. I put my newest passion vine up in a basket in the kitchen window. I cleaned off some salvia stems to root. I collected seeds from several huge i. nils. I cleaned all the little and medium sized tomatoes and put them in the box. I picked up the yellow four o clock seeds from the area around the plants. I know I did more.. oh yes, I ajaxed the pink bathroom tub and toilet. I cleaned and put up a whole lotta tomatoes. I think I am now officially tired,

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

He was chilly from his new haircut, plus he wasn't thrilled to have his nap interrupted for the pic. He loves to cuddle and is a mighty fine foot warmer too, Debra. Man you got a bunch of stuff done after work. Are Salvias easy to root? Are you talking about annuals? The one I have is May Night and is perennial here.

With night temps dipping into the 40's it was prime time yesterday to finish bringing in plants. It wasn't a bad deal since most of them are consolidated into larger pots or planters, just finding spaces where they'll be happy was the biggest challenge. Then I clipped sunflower heads and hung them to dry since that looks like the only way there will be any seeds left. Goldfinches are all over them and Chianti must be their favorite buffet. Also collected more MG, Milkshake coneflower and Bright Lights Cosmos seeds. BL doesn't want to give up. It's shot another 1' tall and is loaded with buds after seed collecting and a good pruning just a few weeks ago. Amazing...but then again I'm easily amused.

I have a whole bunch of round gourd seeds, anyone want some?
I bought a gourd for a craft for the other room, and when I cut it open, there were a bunch of seeds!
The gourd I bought was about 6 -7 inches.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks, LK. I'm in good shape for gourd seeds. Are you going to try growing some on your fence?

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Hey Debra,

I have a couple of passion vines that Clemmie sent me in the Spring. They were slow getting going, but they are now huge. I brought them in a few weeks ago and they are wrapping themselves around anything in sight. Should I be doing anythng about that, or just let them go and sort it out in the Spring when it is time to take them out? I assume I stop fertilizing too? Just wondering.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

GM to all you early birds :) well i just could not resist seeing who was up early this morning LOOKS AS FRUITY WINS :) Just got my coffee made & Had to stop in & say hi . I Have 4 O'clocks saved for ones in here .

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Take it easy, Susie, feel better Girlfriend and will be thinking of you :) Gosh you haven't had it easy lately.

Lexington Park, MD

Linda Kay how hard are the gourds to grow? Would love to try if you have extra seeds and some advice.

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Good morning Ladies!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I wish I knew, I bought this one, and it was full of seeds. I tried some earlier this year, but I think I started to late, and it just got to hot here! I am going to start them inside this winter, and have them nice and big come spring time.
Send me a D-mail, with your mailing address, and I can get some out to you!
Has anyone tried growing gourds?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I grew the apple gourd last year at my sons place, it produced lots of gourds.
Susie I hope you recover quickly, we all wish the best for you. Been working outside since 7:30 am.

The salvias I am making cuttings of are lady in red, anthony parker, salvia garuantica black and blue, omaha gold, which do not winter over here. well b&b did, but I am moving that one. I also have the prennieals, snow nymph, rosequeen, may night and a few others. I have some hot lips too that winter over in the basement garden every year.
okay break over, back outside.. only four more brugs in the ground to go..

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I have done apple gourds & Dipper gourds this year they did good I Have them drying not sure if i done them harm from removing from the vine to early or not . but the frost killed off the vines & so i thought it was ok to
pick so we will see what happens .

I trully do not have the energy right now to play in the garden & I promised doc I would not .
Just went in for my blood draw this morning but no news yet as ya know DOCTOR Don't all work weekends :(
Guess I DOn't have to change doseage since he has not called :)

I love my ITOUCH Now for i can sit or lay here & stay in touch :) Deb I would think those would self seed for you
