Part of the crazy back yard.
She's about to...54
Good Morning all about time to go feed & water but just had to say gm :) & Finish my coffee :) & ask if a crug has not Bloomed the 1st year is that Normal ??? or should i add more food to it more often ??
i was hoping my yard sale yellow wound bloom but it has not .
had to bring in for it is getting colder or now .
anyone here do Orcid cactus ??? I Just got some nice cutting Not sure what is wrong with me for i do not have any real direct sunlight here so hope i can keep them alive .
I planted them into a cactus mix by miragrow is this good for cuttings ????
well Frankie is Knocking at the window so i have to get off here back later .
susie
I Want your sun room also
That room is one of my favorite parts of the house. It's off of the master bedroom so I'm not too stressed about having house plants and kids...it's a "mom only zone!". I'm going to put my sewing stuff, tv, and small bar in there. That will be my hide-out spot!
MAggie you have a wonderful place!
Are brugs easy to grow??? That is a $64.00 question! For the most part yes, they are easy to grow. The hardest part is to get the new cuttings to root. Some root easy, some don't! But once you get them rooted, they grow fast.
No, not all of them will bloom the first year! I have had some now for two and three years and with no blooms! I keep trying, and hopeing for blooms!
But once they do bloom, it is well worth the wait!
Fruity, love those blooms, so pretty!
I'm going to do a little more reading on them and take the $64.00 plunge! I'd like to have something BIG in that sunroom, do you think I can start brugs in there? Move them outside in the spring? It's a good size room with sun coming in on 3 sides. I wish I took better pictures. :(
You can start them anywhere! Most of us bring them in for the winter, and bring them back out next spring!
Maggie, don't buy a brug, I have some I can share. They are in bloom now, but won't be long and I can send you a cutting or a rooted one.
I love your sun room also, it is beautiful. I am lucky to have a solar room and then a seperate garden room (kind of a sun room) to stash my tropical plants since I am zone 5.
DeeJay I have some orchid cactus, they are tuff little guys....rofl. Mine are noid.
Fruity, you are a busy beaver today. I got in the office super early this morning, just couldn't sleep so I am going home at noon time I think.
Where do you work?
Maggie me three for the sunroom. We will all be cutting back brugs soon. They should do pretty well in that sun room. Looks like most anything would do in there. You lucky dog.. :0)
That would be great! I can pay postage for anything anyone wants to share.
I will have a few cuttings also soon .
off to play you all have a great evening
Maggie, Since these ladies are fixing you up with Brugs, let me send you a box of houseplants. Just thought some would get you started as it may be a while before you're ready to plant much outside. It is not necessary for you to reimburse the postage.
Oh my gosh, the more I look at your Sunroom the prettier it gets. Your yellow walls are going to enhance any color of plants you put in there. ooh...a Tropical Forest with all the greens of Palms, Norfolk Island Pines, Philodendrons, Begonias, Elephant Ears, and how stunning it would look with Orchids and Cacti. And something red, orange, or purple would just pop. It must feel wonderful having a canvas like that.
Susie, since cactus mix is so lightweight I'd think it will do the trick for your cuttings. I have a couple of cuttings too, a yellow and a red that were new this year so don't know how long it'll be before they bloom. The little "pencil" offshoots are neat. They come on pretty quickly and have used MiracleGro seed starter mix to root them.
happ, I'm blaming that burst of early energy on our cool rainy day and really early hot pot of coffee.

Thank you, Fruit. I'll have to keep taking and posting pictures as that room fills up. Maybe I'll rename it the "DG room".
Oh good, Maggie. I already have a several in mind for you. If you don't mind cuttings either, I can include some for you that are easy to root.
Cuttings are fine. Ohhhh this gives me a reason to shop for a few pretty pots. I looooove to shop! :)
Goodness, I have some catching up to do. Hello Maggie and Susie!
Those are beautiful feathered higes, and heavently blues, susan.
I have one room ready and slowly filling up. Dh turned 59 today, he stayed home and mowed and made jello. LOL geeze/the old man. We went to his best friends party last night.. That guy turned 60, is a teacher, and got PIED three times. We left before midnite to avoid the pie for Joe.
Got almost all the caladiums up and re-potted, EEs and some things I am sending away.
Don't laff, this is the basement we never use. This ugly space always turns majical into the greenhouse. Dh has been bringing the big things in for me as I de-bug and spray and clip.
Keep in mind this is the before picture.
I would love to have a sunroom like yours, Maggie, but it would just be full of plants. and paper. and pots. and stuff. This is the empty room that used to be my sons. I covered the poster walls up with clear plastic table liners since the tacs were rusted into them.
I took all his nascar stuff off the south wall. It is alot more full of plants now since this picture. Working seems to keep me from Cleaning. LOL well, when I am home I don't want to clean. I want to play in the Garden.
Hey Debra, say happy Birthday to hubby for us! Sounds like you had a great day! And look at the plant room, looks like you have been busy!
Does that over-the-door organizer have tiny pots in it? GOOD idea!
Happy Birthday to Joe.
Debra the only time I want to clean is when it is entirely impossible to do it...rofl.
Last year Debra stuck those shoe racks full of plants, it was so cool, and a great idea. It is like a living wall. I had forgot about that. Need to do that.
Isn't it amazing how much room it looks like we have before the plants come in...rofl. They are saying high 30's this weekend night, not good.
Oh great, high 30's. I found a whole bunch of tropicals out front. No time to move them until friday night. My sister from Arkansas is coming here by greyhound bus to pick up the car I am giving her. She has had nothing but bad luck, so I am sending her home with the car from Pauline. God Bless Pauline, she would be so happy to know that Sherry is going to have her car. I replaced the tires and the brakes, fixed the heating and cooling system, changed the oil and had it detailed at work for 20.00. it has two keyfobs, leather, full power everything and I even cleaned the ashtray, which had never been used until I got it. LOL( Sister doesn't smoke) It is a 1996 with 112 k miles on it. Good old lady car . LOL
I'm impressed with the organizer idea! I have a bunch of those holding different things...bathroom stuff, garage stuff, kid craft things, but never would have thought about plants! Some of the smallest things amuse me. :)
I'm easily amused too Maggie. I always said it was because I'm an only child. :0)
Debra, It is worse than I thought!
Low: 34° High: 64° Saturday
Low: 34° High: 59° Sunday
Low: 34° High: 64° Monday
you may not get that cold cause you are a zone warmer than me, but that is what they have been telling us. My DSS, DDIL, DGD are coming over Saturday, but afraid if they are going to see me they are going to be following me around while I cram all the tropicals somewhere! DSS bought a 196? VW and is going to work on it at our house, which is fine, but I am going to be a busy camper.....I thought I was just going to have to bring in part of them, now I am going to have to bring in all of them! Geezh, I have to get those plants out of the pond! OMG. Too early for this nonsense...rofl.
If memory serves me right, Debra had some cool ideas in her basement on growing things. Her basement turns into a tropical paradise all winter long.
I am going to try to winter sow this year (I know I said that last year) but really I am...rofl. Anyone else going to do it?

I have a bunch of seeds from Debra, and a lot of friends here, that I am going to try to winter sow. I have been saving milk jugs, water jugs, soda bottles... Anything that may work for a small green house! I sure I can get part of them to sprout. I have never done that, but I am going to try! Our cold months are from Mid November, to about mid Feb, so I think I will start them about January, that should give them all time to sprout, and grow enough to be planted out in early March?
Oh, Linda Kay, to live in Texas again.....our cold is from ? Oct to as late as 20 May.....
I collected several jugs so far and have some seeds. I have been buying some seeds that are marked down from this year. I need to get on the forum and figure out when I should sow mine.
I promised seeds to someone from my big red hardy hibiscus but it is not setting seeds like my small white hardy hibiscus. In fact looking at it earlier this week I don't see any seed pods at all. I thought the dark leafed hardy hibiscus was sterile but I didn't think the big red was. Gonna have to check on the web and see if I can figure out why. I would like to have a whole hedge of those myself. Maybe I will take a couple of clippings and see if I can get them started.
Happ I tried your trick of just bringing in the whole pot of caladiums on some of mine. I cut them back and as soon as they are dried out, I'll just stack them in the garage. Anything to make it easier.
Hello to all you sweet people. I have finally finished painting. I have painted the bedroom, living room, hall, kitchen and dinning, laundry and 2 baths. So glad that job is done. All the colors are dark and bold, I love it. Actually made the rooms look larger.
Want to show you more late blooming Glads. I just cut them to enjoy inside. I have never seen these colors. wish you could see the real thing.
Have 4 angel Trumpets about to bloom if worms will leave them alone.
Still have Angel Trumpets and MG seeds on my want list....OK, OK....You are right, I want everything you have shown pictures of. LOL God help me if I should get even half of them.....they would have to be planted.
Love and hugs to all of you.
Faye
Those are beautiful! Love the lime green color!
Afternoon everyone!
I just found out I am going to be a Grandma again! My youngest one called about an hour ago, while I was at Wal mart, and told me the news! His girlfriend is due mid june, and that is my Birthday! Today is his Birthday. what a nice gift for him!
Oh congrats, Linda Kay how exciting. Hope she lives close so you get to play.
dahtzu, you must of been a crazy painting fool, wow, I am impressed. Those glads are pretty pretty. Wonderful to have in your nice newly painted house!
rvnsbrk, I have the best luck with the caladiums just setting in their pots all winter long waiting on water. I have never had any that didn't come back. Some I didn't start watering until almost the end of June this year and they bounced back just beautiful. I am at concerned this year on the ones I will have to dig up cause I have never had to dig before, think I will just throw them in some potting mix and let them sit. I have never had any rolly polly bugs eat the bulbs or anything. Since the soil goes completely dry I don't have mold or anything. Ought to try that with dahlias......wonder?
Congratulations, Linda Kay!
What gorgeous Glads, Faye :) You're been a painting machine.
Congrats, LK! You're gonna be in 7th Heaven.
These are a few of the jugs I Winter Sowed last year and had pretty good luck growing seedlings into blooming plants. When it was time, I cut the bottoms out and planted the whole "cow patties." Well that's what they looked like to me...either that or hockey pucks....lol One example that bloomed is the Homestead Verbena grown from seeds you gave me, Susie. Can't tell y'all how many times I bundled up and went out there just to open jugs when we had a sunny Winter's day but felt more a freezer. And it was a challenge keeping the jugs watered when we started to warm up. Folks on the W/S forum gave good tips too. Lots of die hards there. Am I in again.....you bet.
Joyce, I am freaking out. My sister is here this weekend, we have been moving plants in all night. The basement garden is going to be crammed, until I get everyones stuff packed up and sent out. Faye I have not forgotten you, my dear, brugs and seeds galore will come your way. This year I have new seeds of great blue lobelia, ruby slippers lobelia and cardinalis . They get very tall and bloom a long time. I have thousands of coleus seeds now, and new Brazilian verbena that is cool. The alba moon vine flowers are blooming everywhere at night it smells so good. I wish I could have time to paint my house it needs it so bad. But then, it needs everything so bad. I love to winter sow, I have boxes and boxes of plastic bottles.
kids think I am nuts. I had mgs blooming last winter in the basement, and already have some blooming now. I need to call Bonnie and see if she is bringing her stuff in. Poor Don with his tropicals up in Wichita, he has some huge things there to haul in.
Linda, congrats! How kaciting to have a new spout! Do we know what we are having yet? Pink or Blue?
Those Glads are gorgeous.

susie, your day sounds like my kinda fun! When we get all thru worrying about the weather, cold, and freezing, theplants will be in, and I will start the "box" building. Your name will be on one, and we will all have lots of fun winter sowing! Good morning to you all, and hugs for a great day..
PS: BRRR! LOL just let duke out...
Gorgeous glads Faye. They are my favorites. Wish I could grow them here. Not enough sun.
Chilly here too. 48 right now. More rain coming so I need to boogie about and get the outside stuff done quick.
Later all,
How can you put seeds in the snow, don't they freeze?
She is only 3 weeks pregnant, so it will be a few months before we know pink or blue!
