She's about to...54

Fruity, all the mums I have growing ( three) were from cuttings I took from broken plants at nurserys and now they are blooming plants. They are alot easier to root than brugs, that is for sure. Time to pluck those seed pods before they break and scatter, kiddo!
I spent most of the day re-potting and bringing in the tropicals. The grow room #1 is all set up. Getting down in the 40's tonite, so brought in as many tropicals as I could.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I have brought in my tropical plants also & I Have Brug Cutting & Other cutting coming should be here today
so i have to go get my soil ready also .

Busy day . will try to poke back in later today .

Look what opened up last night/ My Monster white, and it is huge! And it smells so pretty!
I will pass on the mums this time. I just don't know where I am going to put all my plants now! I had to go out and buy more pots this past week-end! And I still need more!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ooooops,I forgot the picture!

Wowser LK that is a big one! I have a ginger that is budded, but now it has gotten cool and damp and I sure hope it opens before it gets so cold I have to bring it in. I made the mistake of putting it in the ground and I don't want to move it while it is trying to bloom.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Man is it ever, LK! I know what you mean about needing pots and just bought 16 brand new medium size plastic ones at Goodwill Friday for 40 cents a piece. Thought I'd hit the jackpot...lol

It's still raining, not that I'm complaining a bit. Early this morning, I ran out and gathered some of the MG seedpods. You were right on, Debra, several were brown and rattled. After a trip to town, I made room inside in anticipation of bringing plants in this week-end when we're supposed to dip into the 40's. Looks like it's about time to dig up Caladium bulbs and store them. They were so pretty but have taken a beating lately from the kitties curling up in them and batting the leaves. Have any of you been successful saving Sweet Potatoe Vine tubers?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I left all tropicals out and we got down into the 40's several times and everything so far looks okay. The only thing I moved in were the coleus cuttings and a tropical that is going to bloom, can't think of the name. The brugs seem to be in 7th heaven and still blooming.

Monster White is really pretty, glad it is doing so good for you.

I want to put a floor in the garden room, right now it is concrete. Go to home depot and tell the kid I want a cheap floor so he takes me to stick on floor tiles, tells me it is 40.00 a box and I will need 10 boxes.....I asked him did you hear me say cheap! Give me a break. Think I will look at Habitat for Humanity and see what they have, or maybe just stain the floor or cheaper yet leave it alone....I wanted something that would warm up the floor but maybe that isn't possible.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

If your floors are concrete, make sure you put 2x4's or something down first, so the plants are not sitiing on the cold concrete. They need a bit of insulation between the pot and the floor. maybe you have some old carboard boxes, you can flatten out?
Nice deal on the pot find at goodwill, wish we had one here!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Yeah taters, I have been putting planks of wood down on the floor for the pots that sit on the floor. Others sit on metal shelves. DH thinks I need to tile the floor, I just don't think I want to work that hard...LOL Time is wasting so I need to decide something quickly.

Yeah great find fotv on the flower pots, love bargins....especially like that.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I am on the hunt for more pots as well.. silly me I have to save everything. I have been saving the sweet potatoe tubers for the past three years. I have Ace of Spades, Gold Fingers, Pink Frost, Blackie, and Margarite. I just leave them in their pots ( I quit putting them into the ground) and clip them off, and then they come back in late winter to full flush in summer. I use flat cardboard from work under most of my pots on the concrete or tile. It seems to help, even tho it is heated down there, it still seems cold on the floor. I just loved my MW last year, it had huge blooms too. I gave away the big plant and kept a cutting. It didn't bloom as I had hoped this year. I went to my daughters for dinner after work, and her brugs have buds on them that I gave her. I am so proud of her.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is ready! Nice and cool here this morning. 57 degrees! Plants are all looking happy.
Hope you all have a great day!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Still raining here and everything is loving it. Bet we've had about 2 inches in that 2 days.

I have a list of errands to run today that is crazy. Wish you all could go with me so it would be more fun!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Hello All! I found some familiar names while I was aimlessly browsing DG. I guess it pays to do more on here than search for SWAPS! :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello Maggie, welcome to the group!
Please tell us a bit about yourself, what do you do, what is in your garden, any hobbies? Anything blooming right now?
We are nosey, but in a good way! Just more curious than nosey!!! ^_^

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I picked this cactus dahlia this morning before I left. It measures 7 inches across. I don't know how well it shows up but the petals have a tinge of lavender on some of the tips. It is loaded with buds, hope they all turn out this well.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is so pretty! Do you have a lot of dahlia's?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I lost lots year, cause it was the first year for my shed (unheated) and I put them in there to dry and then I forgot....so they all froze....so sad.

So I bought some new ones and then I lucked out and someone sent me some for postage so I have several. I really like them except for the digging part in the fall...rolf

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Glad you made it here Maggie! This a great place to be. Lots of people will share plants with you for postage if you need some for your new place.

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Thanks! I'm so happy to be here! I love DG more & more every day!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Do you have any angel trumpets? They come in so many sizes, shapes, colors, and scents!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

taters, there you go again, trapping that innocent newbie on DG....rofl. Let me help you my dear I will gladly send you a cutting.......rofl.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, we can't have her not have any! She needs to be hooked, just like we are!!!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

ROFL......you betcha Linda Kay, couldn't agree more....rofl.

Maggie, the large majority if not all of us collect brugmansia's. That is how this thread originally got started on the brug forum but we were all so friendly that the brug forum decided we would be better off here. (Wasn't that a nice way to state that fact...rofl) So we chat about anything and everything including our brugs.

Speaking of brugs, the one someone crossed and gave me after 3 years and no blooms is going to have a very cold winter I am afraid. I have tried everything to get this one to bloom, so I am guessing you can have a nonbloomer? I just don't have room for nonperformers. I had a long talk with the plant the first part of the spring so now I have to follow thru.....ughhh I hate this.

Warner Robins, GA(Zone 8b)

Was the angel trumpets question for me? If so, no I don't. I am starting from scratch. We just bought our first house and the yard is/was a JUNGLE. We've been clearing most of it out. It's a disaster area left by a man who supposedly owned a landscaping company. We have pear trees that are too big so they're weak and falling, 1/2 of a sprinkler system (previous owner took the other half), wiring under and above ground for lighting that he also took (he was definately NOT an electrician). We have a TON of cleaning up to do and each time we take something out, it takes the roots of something I might have wanted to keep. I'm not letting myself get upset over it, it's an opportunity for me to plant new things myself. Basically I have a yard full of stuff, but still a yard full of nothing. Does that make sense?

I'll be back...I forgot for a minute that I'm a wife & mom......I'm supposed to cook dinner. Whoops!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Ah-ha, so that's the thread's history. What a beautiful Dahlia, happ. I'd just about given up on mine til I noticed a few buds this afternoon.

Hi Maggie, you'll have fun here. Tell us about your yard (other than the disasters you inherited) like the kind of light you have -- full sun, part sun, shade, etc -- and the kinds of plants you would like to grow. Not sure whether you're able to have houseplants with your kids?

Had to take hubby to an appt fairly early this morning and noticed two different MG's blooming when I pulled out of our driveway. One was a different big blue and the other was White with ruffles and pale blue streaks, really pretty. Gotta wait for more blooms to show you guys since I didn't have my camera hanging out the window. My neighbors think I'm nutz enough as it is. Then I ran around this afternoon gathering old saucers and plates to use under plants when I bring them in. Faye, those trays you gave me in June are going to be lifesavers.

Hey LK..Any news on Jax's son??

Fruit Loop I think I am going to start pulling up stuff tomorrow and gettting the caladiums ready to come in. Still have that nice bag of bulbs you gave me to plant somewhere too. More rain coming Thursday, so I better get my butt in gear. How's Sherlock?? :0)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

He came home this past week-end I believe. he has a lot of therapy to go through, but she said he was going home!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh good, LK. I'd been wondering the same thing and Jax has been on my mind. It's been a whirlwind lately and I should have already emailed her. Thank You for the update on her son.

Sherlock's eye exam went well....now we have to wait about 2 weeks for his new glasses to be made. "Long time no see" wearing non bi-focals that aren't tinted is going to be a huge challenge for him in more ways than one.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

How exciting to be able to start from scratch Maggie. Sounds like alot of fun. Yes, the question about brugs was directed to you. Do you know what they are? Maybe someone who has one blooming can post a pic for you. They have an amazing smell.....wowzer.

So glad to hear Jax's son is atleast home. I sure hope everything works out good for him.

fotv, my dahlias were really slow this year, which kind of surprises me as hot as it got. Some of mine don't even have any buds.
Those that are blooming are really big and beautiful. None of mine smell, I don't know if any smell or not.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Couldn't sleep which is odd for me. I bet at 4:30 when it is time to get up I will be sleepy and 2pm....ughhhh.

I remember when DH had to get bifocal....omg, you would of thought the world ended. I didn't have much sympathy since I should of worn glasses since I was a teenager or younger...LOL At least I did start wearing contacts, I have since given those up and wear glasses, contact biofocals just didn't work for me on several levels.

I hope it didn't get too cold for my caladiums. I have the pots under the porch drying out from all the rain. I usually just let them dry in the pots on a shelf but I have some I will have to lift because the pot is too big, should I just stick those in a pot in dirt? or do any of you store them in netting?

So much to do and no time. I will have company on Saturday so I won't get anything done.
fotv, that frost thing on DG is really cool.
edit to say the frost predictor is really cool but about scared the bee gees out of me!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Going out to lift my caladiums today. Some I might leave in the pots too. Guess we will see what works best.

Time to bring all the houseplants back in too. I don't feel like playing Russian Roulette this Fall with the weather.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Got a feeling you're gonna need an energy drink this PM, happ.
Not looking forward to doing the houseplant shuffle either. If we ever get our addition finished it will be so easy to slide pots right in from the back porch instead of schlepping them upstairs...ugh my back aches already.
Rain's just started again and will be here through sometime tomorrow. It's a good day for a roast and veggies in the crockpot so I can play in my box of ceramics. I've changed the sheets, done two loads of laundry, unloaded the dishwasher, took off the trash, fed the critters, and gone out to take pics. Tired already...lol. This is the different big blue MG mentioned yesterday.

I have all of the above...full sun, part sun, shade, and a sunroom that's screaming "fill me with plants!". I also have a big goldfish pond that eventually will be cleaned out and functioning. The sunroom and pond excite me as I've never had either before. I have a lot of work ahead of me (I'll post a couple pictures).

I looked up brugs and WOW! Beautiful and they're HUGE! A scratch-n-sniff computer screen would be nice. Are they easy to grow?

Darn it! I attached the wrong picture. That's part of the front of my house.
