more Blooming Brugs

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

James, sorry to hear that you're ill, and yes, it will help a lot being close to family.Hope you are doing better soon!
Another beauty Elizabeth! Looks like another very tall one.Your pic looks like a tropical oasis, with honeysuckle about to pop too. My husband calls my NN my tree...lol.. I am going to have several tree sized ones overwintering in the basement this year. How often should a potted dormant brug be watered?.I want to keep a few up in the sunroom and see if I can keep them blooming ahwile.
I am beginning to feel like a true brug grower , now that I an getting several buds and those nice thick trunks. The biggest brug I have is the jaycanaX sweetheart....it is huge,,,,taller than NN.My bernsteinX Josie Grace is looking good....even
has a few nice buds on it already

Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

TS is a real beauty! I can't wait to see the other blooms. The storms knocked the heck off of blooms, but I still have three that hung in there so far. I have teeny buds on about 6 more and this weekend kaitlyn gets "trimmed" and re-potted and she is the first to be moved in this year.
James, I hope you get more blooms no matter what color.. I love your chichi inside, too. Mine will be coming in next.
This chair is now occupied, since I am afraid to sit in it for fear of being strangled.. LOL

Well dont know but feeling better knowing that family and friends are here with me.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, nothing ready to have it's picture taken yet, but Painted lady has a bunch that are beginning to open and so does Charles Gramaldi. Then, I think Naughty Nick is gonna be next. The wind tore one of his big blooms off yesterday, but there is still one big one and a bunch of smaller ones to follow. The wind also snapped the tallest branch on P&C, but what's left has blooms on it. The brugs along the driveway, are out in the open with no protection. I so enjoy walking the yard and taking care of them!!!Right now, I'm trying to decide which ones, I want to keep in the sunroom, this winter.....probably 5 or 6 big ones......decisions...decisions..lol
The double tuberoses are beginning to open...they smell heavenly.I think I am gonna give them a good drenching with bug spray this evening and bring the pot inside, so I can enjoy them.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
sounds like the wind tried too do a number on your plants, P&C roots easy, just stick it in the ground, my tuberoses, hasn't done anything, I put the pot with them in the GH, just too see if they would Bloom, I also have a big pot of them that Karen
gave me last year, it still hasn't, I wold love too see them when they Bloom for you, if I know you, you will try too keep them all in the Sunroom, with a table & chairs, so you can have your coffee in the morning, I know it will look Beautiful

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, I have a pot full of tuberoses bulbs, and only two bloom stalks, but I think mine are over crowded.I wonder why yours haven't bloomed. I had mine setting close to some brugs and fertilized them everytime I fertilized the brugs.lol I will take a pic as soon as they open a little more.
I probably will put a small table and a couple chairs in there( and probably end up filling them with plants..lol) I might put a daybed in there, if I can find the room.I don't think I will be able to keep all the brugs in there thru winter, but I do want to keep some going.I'm already back there with my coffee every morning waiting on daylight, and watching the news.DH is a light sleeper and is it far enough away from the bedroom, that he can't here a thing.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Elizabeth is beautiful, and so is the night blooming cerus. It is sooo exotic looking!
Grrrrr .....my other big bloom on Naughty nick, is gone...I don't know if it is from bud drop or if DH bumped the planter hard when he mowed today. It looked great this morning, nice strong stem. If it was bud drop, are all the other buds on it likely to do the same? There are quite a few smaller ones coming on.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
mine were nice big Buds, they just dropped, I think it was the stress from the heat, just give it time you might acually see a Bloom, before you have too take it in, I have several that didn't even have Buds this year, I am digging those up, getting them ready for their winter home, I know a few other people that NN has acted this way, next Spring it will be loaded with Blooms, oh my day Blooming Cerus has Buds it will Bloom in a couple days, I hope it's as fragrant as the night Blooming
one, also I finally have more Buds on Angels Summerlove, I hope this time they're doubles

Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Some of us guys also grow Lantana, Dallas Red of course.

I grow about 7 colors of lantanas, they are all in bloom and winter over. That salvia is called Omaha Gold ( Gaurantica) the leaves are variegated dark and light green, like a brug I saw somewhere on dg. I gotta find that variegated brug, not like the white and cream one, but the two shades of green? Oh, I over winter my lantanas in the basement garden, so I don't have to buy them every year, as they are annuals here. I have about 6 kinds of cerus cuttings, they just havn't bloomed yet.
I love the Dallas red.. alot. I am getting ready to find homes for the trailing lavender lantanas. they are traling all over the front flower bed. This one is a pink one, tho.. hope Charleen and Charley are okay.

Debra
Hi, the Brug you're looking for is Emerald Forest, I love lantanas, that's a pretty one you've got there, I haven't counted how many house plants I have, but it's way too many, I am down sizing this year, my GS is handicapped so that takes up a lot of my free time, that I would have had, I am just keeping what will go dormant or semi dormant, plus we're house hunting, I thought this would be my last move but not, we have too have a one floor house, this has 2 floors, so that doesn't work
I hope Charlene & Charley are doing great, she should have a bunch of Blooming Brugs by now, she's probably just busy

Elizabeth

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I hope your house hunting is an easy one, Elizabeth.. sincerely , I feel it is a hard thing to do.. moving..
I thought I was going to downsize because of my back. but I have promises of help to bring in, so I am keeping the basement Garden up again..

see this little flower? it is on a long hanging stem, kinda like a shrub, it is coming out of a pot I planted some seeds in.. and I need to know what this is.. ( Never seen anything like it before)

Some of the branches are like 3ft plus long. any ideas?

Debra
that is so pretty, I can't help you out with a name, no wonder you keep it, the leaves remind me of the plant I have that the Bloom looks like a butterfly, I bet Veronica will know, I need too go over some of my plants books, I have a bunch, over at least 50, it sure is nice though, I relly feel for you, I have a couple disc that are buldged, that is painful, after awhile you have too learn a different way too lift everything,

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Ooooops! Ken, of course guys grow it too...sorry...lol I have 4 diffeent colors, including a red, but I don't know if it's dallas red. Elizabeth, I tried winter overing two last winter in the basement. The red made it, the lavender one didn't, but I will be trying it again this year in the sunroom.
Debra...7 colors of lantana...you love it as much as I do..lol I buy every color that I can get my hands on..lol I found one on a clearance rack, with no blooms on it, and no tag, but the price was right. It is just beginning to look healthy and beginning to bloom. The outer blooms that are open are white with a yellow eye.It is actually quite pretty..and one I didn't have.
Debra, I hope you find out what that plant is. It is very pretty!I love they way the blooms hang down.
Elizabeth, I don't envy you moving, but one story (and some more land, for Grandma), will be so nice for your family.Hopefully I have made my last move.Oh, by the way the other house sold last week...now, I can breath a little easier. Can't wait to see all those blooms.
This is Painted Lady struttin' her stuff this morning.

Here are the double flowered tuberoses.Only one stalk is beginning to open, so far. I wanted to bring them in, but I haven't got any extra lighting set up yet, and I was afraid that it would slow the opening down, even more. They smell wonderful, similar to the scent of gardenias, I think.

Painted Lady found a good home, really pretty, the next couple days the Blooms will be darker, That Tuberose is just Beautiful, I hope mine Bloom before I take it in
Thats wonderful that it's scented, I wonder maybe I have it over crowed, if so I'll seperate it, too see if that makes it Bloom, I can see why you like them, Oh great photo's
I am glad that your other house sold, that's great, that was fast, Congrautlations
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, Painted Lady is already darker than it was this morning, and more blooms are open! You know that I will have to post another pic tomorrow...lol
I love it, and it will probably get that same spot by the door next year.
I know I planted my tuberoses too close. I was in a hurry to get them potted up and had used most of my potting soil, so I put them all in one pot and they were almost touching.I read that they take 90 - 120 days to bloom. Also, if you click on this link, it tells you the correct way to plant them. I'll do better next year...lol

Dee
Thank you for the link, I am so glad that Painted Lady is doing so well for you, now I know too plant the tuber roses in the ground next Spring, I also have a big pot of them From Karen, I went out & moved them from the shade to full sun, if this nice sunny weather keeps up I have about 10 Brugs with Buds, also the day Blooming cerus is starting too Bloom, I should have a photo of it tommorrow, I can't believe how fast our Spring/Summer went by, now if the fall/Winter goes by that fast, we'll be happy campers, Right, I dug up another Brug today that hasn't done anything, it had everything going for it, it had grown quiet a bit, then it had the subequal leaves, just no Buds
so I potted it up, I also mowed the lawn, I should only had to do that one more time, did I mention that I love your new place, it's Beautiful

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I know, Elizabeth, this summer has gone so fast. I am looking forward to the break, from all the watering, tho. It has been one hot, dry summer, hasn't it.
I can hardly wait to see all your blooms. I have several that I look forward to sharing also,4 or 5 more blooms opened on Painted lady tonight. It is so pretty with the pink and white blooms hanging together. Those darn cucumber beetles and grass hoppers are eating my brugs up. Do you know how long it takes a systemic(misp?) to work? I think this week-end I will mix up some batches and try that.
Talking about a brug that has a lot going for it, but no blooms. I wish you could see my Jacayna x Daydreams seedling, that I started in Nov. It is a beautiful plant, about 7 feet tall, beautiful form, and huge foliage with very few bug bites. It looks more like a tree...but not a bud in sight. I bet it is gonna be a bugger to dig....lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I have several that got over 7ft from clippings I got on 2/27/10, I just couldn't believe it, I have a Jacayna X with something
I have too look at the tag, oh my day Blooming Cerus is Blooming so I took a photo, also if you take blooms from your Brugs, put them in a vase of water in the house you can still smell the fragrance, not long but for a little while, your Brug will amaze you, when you go too dig it up, it's easier than I thought, anyway here is the day Blooming Cerus in Bloom, oh BTW
if you list your Photo's by the date it's much easier too find them when you want too post
Elizabeth

Beautiful blooms Dee and Elizabeth.
That plant is ID as a Goji Berry plant. I have no clue how it got there.. it will set berries and the seeds will be shared with you if you want them.

I keep saying I am going to bring in the plants now.. I have brought in three plants from outside, they are all tropicals.
No brugs in yet. White knight, Cotton Candy, Cassies Curls and my Stardancer cross seedlings are all budded. I saw Milk n Honey had more buds out front. I can't wait for the next round of blooms, even Maya is budding again.

Hamilton, OH

Debra
if you see anything of mine that you want, just let me know, I have a Huge clipping of Santa Rosa with your name on it, it should be rooted soon, I have several that I was going too dig up, they have small Buds on them, so they are going too stay put for a few weeks yet, in the next couple weeks I am donating a lot of Plants too the local university, I know I have at least 4 Strawberry Creme brugmansia that they are getting, I am so glad you found a name for your plant, it's so pretty
it's nice too put a name on it, my Star Dancer is one that hasn't even set Buds yet, next year it should do something
Maya hasn't done anything yet, but Miss B. Havin is getting ready too Bloom again

Elizabeth

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Your Miss Bhavin is a real Beauty. I am going to let the brugs stay out as long as I can. The tender tropicals get to come in first, They all got new soil, and a soap bath. So far the soap bath seems to work just fine for the tropicals. I looked at my cerus plants and they are growing lots of new stems and leaves , but still no bloom pods yet. Look at my tropical Hibiscus tonight, this is Pink Sensation..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Dee, do you have trailing lavender lantanas/ I have alot of them.. they really like the front triangle garden, too bad they have to come out of there..
This is a candle bush that a DGr gave me , he lives up in Wichita.. He grew it from seed.

Hamilton, OH

Debra
that really Beautiful, my DH loves Hibiscus, he would go crazy over that one, I am mixing up some neem oil Spray, too Spray all the Brugs before they come in, for some reason the cucumber bettles love my Elizabeth Brug, they have ate holes in almost every Bloom, I am glad they don't like Santa Rosa, for some reason Bugs like certain brugs, Thank goodness they leave the other ones alone

Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Debra
that's really pretty, I think you have more plants than I do, I didn't think that was possible, someone having more plants than me

Elizabeth
