Wow, Elizabeth, that's great! I will have to check on Window World, but I have never heard of it.
Debrah, you know I want any extras that you want to send! I have never met a plant that I didn't love.I am planning on working on a box of shrubs for you this week end...both rooted and un-rooted.will un-rooted cuttings do ok, this time of year? Then, the following week end, when I dig some of the tropicals (EE's and brugs) mostly, I will e-mail you and see if you can use any of those.
I have plans for all tropicals in the sun-room, and would you girls believe that I have been looking at more tropicals to buy.I think I better hold off, til I see if I have enough room as it is..lol
I plan on using the basement, for seed starting, and most of the brugs, bananas...etc.And, I need new bulbs too. I was reading on the tropical forum, about those round clip on lights. I think I am gonna get some of those for added light in the sunroom, since the days are so much shorter in the winter.
Hey, Ladies, I think we need a forum called "Winter Garden Rooms"...lol I know there are plenty of people out there that are just as crazy as we all are...just gotta have green year round.

If you are able, I would love to have a cutting in the Spring.I never thought of using press and seal for air layering. What a great idea! Doesn't Chocolate Brug air layer brugs?

Elizabeth and Dee, Gorgeous blooms!

I've only had time for lurking, I had to give Charleen a heads up on Buffalo gourd. It's native to Texas and is found all over this area. I often wondered why I was having such a difficult time getting rid of it. When you crush the leaves, the odor is very offensive and the fruit is toxic to cattle. After reading the information in this site: http://www.texasbeyondhistory.net/ethnobot/images/cucurbitabg.html , I can see why I can't get rid of it. I may have to dig out the huge roots.

I don't know if Charlie ever escapes his pen, but nothing is safe from cows if they want it badly enough. Fortunately, they don't seem interested in Buffalo gourd. I've been trying to rid the pastures of all toxic plants because the little ones are apt to try just about anything. I'm trying to plant a butterfly garden in my enclosed yarn so I planted 1 lantana since giant yellow butterflies and swallowtails love the nectar. Last November, our calves broke through the old fence. I caught a little bull calf eating lantana leaves. He spent the week-end at the vets, pumped full of vitamins and a stomach full of activated charcoal. The leaves of the red-flowered lantana are toxic. I'm not sure about the other lantanas, but I didn't feel I could take a chance on losing him.

Thanks, everyone. I really like the yellow ones, too, and I am so excited finally, to be getting blooms! Well, I really like them all, but I am not addicted...lol

Missbhavin and Solid Gold are both so pretty!
My cherub got her socks knocked off her tonight we had a tornado a mile away from us here.. everything got
"trimmed" but Kaitlyn is still hanging in there and so is Isabella and s.pink and now Monster white. I can't wait for Cassies Curls to bloom she is loaded with blooms.
Charleen, that Buffalo Gourd is a native here, it makes cute little round gourds, But I would get it into a large pot or tub.
I see it occasionally out in the fields when I go on my nature runs. I gathered four gourds that were dried and then they broke up and the seeds went into the "mix" I sent out. So did some tropical milk weed seeds and some native blue sage seeds. I hope those come up for you.

My frosty acted like a shrub until I cut it to a standard. Cherub shot up four stalks and looked like a shrub, but while AuntB was here with me she helped me shape her up. I will have three extra standards to send away in another week or so. The root ball came from "X", here on DG. I can never spell her user name it is long.
The brug I posted up there and this one here is Kaitlyn, from jt sessions.

Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Yellows. oranges, pinks and even whites are beautiful. Yes, I love blooming plants. Yes, Charley does get out but I can't stand it when they do, it's a rodeo for sure. I try to keep them happy so they won't get out. The gourd just poped up there. Are all gourds Poisoneous? I have seen the donkeys eat them before but this one is in my front yard. they better behave. ☺ or durn!☻☻ I'll be chasin them for sure. Getting too old to be chasin longears.....

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Charleen,
I'm not sure about other gourds. It would depend on the amount of cucurbitacin, the toxic substance found in all members of the squash family, they contain. In the edible squash varieties, that compound is much reduced, but then humans don't eat pounds of the stuff which would increase the amount of toxin consumed.

We'd only been ranching a year when I broke my ankle in 3 places and was laid up for months. I would have gone stir crazy if I hadn't had my computer as a research tool. I found it amazing how much agricultural information is available from legitimate sources, ".gov, .edu, or .org." I used those sources because the information is free and they have nothing to gain as they aren't trying to sell you someting. I learned a lot about grasses, cattle, wildflowers, weeds and toxic plants during that period of time.

Unfortunately, not all livestock react to the same toxic plant material in the same way or I would gladly share my list of links and plants with you. Some plants are universally toxic, but others may harm some livestock and not others. Since my list of links is about toxins and cattle, it wouldn't do you andy good since horses, and Charlie is part horse, are more sensitive and appear to react to a larger number of plants. Luckily, it is easier to find lists of toxic plants that affect horses which you might consider using since I haven't seen any that specifically refer to mules or Charlie's other ancestor, the donkey. Texas A & M sells a book on the most common toxic plants and identifies which livestock is sensitive to it. It even lists the symptoms to look for.

I use the pasture closest to the house as a birthing pasture. That way I can keep an eye on any potential birthing problems. I have a small corral that opens into that pasture. After birthing, mother and calf stay in other small pastures visible from the house until they are a month or two old when we move them to the other pastures. Last fall, we had 25 little ones at once (I'e been trying to synchronize all births down to a 3 month period.) They were soooo cute, playing and running together or in small groups. Then the smaller calves discovered they could get over the ground wire and under the hot wire to get to my garden and away from mom. The older calves figured out how to short out the hot wire to get in. They rampaged through my garden at will and ate just about all I had planted out. I discovered Crinums are not as toxic as listed when they ate all my pink ones. Luckily, my Brugs were already in the greenhouse. With this new fence, they will have to learn to fly, but since the gate can still be left open, I'll have to be careful about what I plant or there will be more trips to the vet.

Here is finally a bloom looks like I brought the pink one back from fl with me to ny.
