Doesn't the wind blow pretty good up on the rooftops, Gordon? Do you have to stake things down?? that is a very pretty bloom. I think it would be fun to see it all.
Charleen

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

yes...it is pretty strong up here... there's nothing taller than I am for 20 mles to the west... for the prevailing wnds and miles around on the other three directions... it's not as bad as some places where I have plant interests... like up on the 18th floor... along the river ..uptown... not only is it exposed... but there's enough big buldings to multiply it there.. the shrubs det burnt out on the windward side .. and are luch and tender on the other side.. they need a fence... my fence has made a big difference here... it's got some spaces inbetween the bamboo to let air in a little.. so it doesn't hit the fence and rse up over t to come crashing down from the top.. pancakeing it ..
tie everything to the fence... or the next plant.. and the vines growng through them all... morning glories.. and the passion vines.. Jasmine and 6 or 8 other types of vines... they help keep things together...
ya'llare welcome anytime to vsit..
going to have a night blooming cereus explosion tonight.. I thought t was to be last night .. but this new one .. it's buds keep just growing more that the old one have.

Gordon...all I can say is ...wow....

What a view - of both NYC and your garden! Absolutely lovely. If I look past my plants all I see is a cornfield :)

Di

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Sheri... well ..thanks... OK.. the first bulding on the right on the horizon.. is kind of a striped looking squareish thing.. over to the left some is a cream colored building... ... inbetween these two is a pointey..light gray looking one.. kind of misty looking... the light gray one is the Empire State Buildng..
Janae..thanks..yes.. across from mothers in al/tn she had popcorn .. it was a contract crop for one of the gourmet lines of pop corn.. we used to go behind them when they harvested and get a lfetimes supply of pop corn for the carrying it back..
ok.. here's the NBC tonght three blooms.. one on my side of the fence.. two on the other..

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

here's an interesting one..same flower.. it's backlt by a small LED lght

Gordon- I saw that misty looking building and wondered if that was the ES bldg. I miss and love NY. Would you please take a night picture of your view and post it pr send it to me? When I was young my Grampa from Mount Vernon took me just about everywhere in NYC!
Your rooftop garden is spectacular! How does that work? Do you live on the top floor and have a roof top entrance? Does everyone get a certain amount of rooftop area to garden is they want? I think roof top gardens are so cool!
Gordon, was it you who mentioned frequently having broken pieces of Night Blooming Cereus?

^_^ Sheri

Dee

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Sheri...thanks... well every roof garden is different... I'm in a co-op.. and the roof here is deeded to me and my elclucive use.. but I also have to mantain the roof... but after reroofing some 18 years ago.. there's been no problem.. thus no expence... I'll nnotice t frst being rght underneath it... I guess I squeeze as much use out of it as can... some buldings have private sections for common use of the roof... but most co-ops that have shared use.. also have a gardener hired by the co-op.. and no personal planting is permitted.. ..I'll get you a good nght photo of the cityscape.. it was a bit overcast last night..
Charleen... what a couple... Charleen and Charle.. he's certainly a cutie... yes.. gve hm a good scratching for me.. I've a cactus I call my ponys nose .. as it's so soft.. [and spineless..] His pen looks like a marine obstacle course though.. he'd be right at home in the corps.. they were saying they have to carry 10 lbs of grain and 15 lbs of hay for them for each day they are out .. that seems like alot...
Thanks Elizabeth... wish had folks close enough that I could entice over to unload some gardening stories and plant materal on...

Hey, you all!!!! Gordon that is a bit but you got to remember, They are working Marine mules, so they probably deserve every bite they get. I bet they carry water somewhere in the Mule line. Got to have water. They aren't Camels. They are good but they still have limits.
It would be great to go see Elizabeth, I bet she will load you up and still have some left to share. I got a New Orleans Lady yesterdayand she bloomed but not fully yet. How wonderful. Brenda, 7doggies gave me a truckload yesterday. I enjoyed meeting her. We met at the Varsity in Atlanta and Ga. Tech was having a game. We got in and out without any mishap. Thank God. Enjoyed the trip.
Charleen and Charley sends you all hugs and nuzzles....

Gordon, I love seeing your pics, of your rooftop garden, as well as the ones of the city. I am always amazed, when I see NY on tv, with all those people out on the streets.
I know you had a great time Charleen, meeting one of your DG buddies. Now, if we could just get you up our way.I think next summer, you should come visit me for about a week!We would have a blast.
Elizabeth, it would be great if we all lived close. You know we'd be saying"could you grow this (or that) in your yard, I want to watch it grow, but I'm outta room...lol'. It would be so much fun.

Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Chuck, you need to go to the Texas forum and check out some of the swaps in your area, I know there will be some double Brugs there.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Gorgeous blooms , Charleen. I am glad you had fun. I have been bringing in plants all day. I spent four days re-potting and debugging. The brugs are still out there budded and blooming, but the tender tropicals had to move in. 46 tonight they are saying. BRRR

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Brrrrr! DH said keep your longjohns on!!! Debra you are cold, girl.... I did enjoy our little adventure and Brenda and her G'son were so nice.
Wish we all could get together. What a blast that would be. Did You all see the slits in the Dola bloom?? That's not normal is it? I'll get you a list Elizabeth. Got quite a few. The worse thing is, "I'm still wanting." Is that greedy??? Here is total Dola.

Charlene
Girl you're not greedy, a couple years ago if you had seen my list you would've thought I was Super greedy, my list right now is a long one, of course I am counting all the crosses in that list, I just love Dola, I am thinning down on some of my Pink ones every chance I get, I did sell one Pink one at my Garage Sale, I sure did pick the wrong weekend too have it, so this Friday & Saturday, I'll be trying it again, everything is all set up, I just have too open my Garage doors
Brenda, is just the Sweetest, she also knows her stuff

Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Yes she does. That one French plant is looking perky after our wonderful rain. I got to get the name.
Yesterday she was really droopy.
Maybe between the sprinkles I can get the names.

Debra, I have spent the past two days de-bugging and re-potting...and bringing in every spare stand and table that I can find, for the plant room.
Charleen. beautiful blooms.I think that shredded looking bloom on Dola is kinda cool..lol My Dola should start blooming soon.It has lots of big buds on it.
The first bloom opened on P&C this morning. Here's a pic.

Charleen

Hamilton, OH

Debra, I really hope your forecast is wrong, it's raining out & chilly, I guess it's time too put Summer clothes away, I sure hope we have a couple more weeks too deal with our Brugs
Charlene, can't explain why your Dola did that, I hope the rest of the Blooms turn out like they're suppose too, I love the color of it
Dee, I am so glad your P&C Bloom looks great, you're doing really well with it, I am going too miss those Bloom when we have too take them in, NN is loaded with Buds I do hope too see it Bloom, after it dropping all it's Buds, Oh I had too do some Housework that's why I was on earlier

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I do believe Fall is here, Ladies and Gentlemen. I am going to miss the blooms too Elizabeth.I wish we were getting some of your rain.It is cool here, but me and the brugs are enjoying it, right now...lol I hope we have a couple more weeks of decent weather, also. I'm not ready yet!
Thanks, for the compliment Elizabeth. I really have been trying with the brugs.Naughty Nick dropped 2 more buds, but it still has several.I'm hoping some hang on, so I can see a double bloom soon! Mary K has 3 nice size buds, and she is just huge! Serendipity looks like she is gonna have a pretty good flush, about the same time as Dola.I have 3 Apricot Moonflowers, and not a bloom on any of them...strange.I do look forward, to trying to shape them all into standards, when I get ready to bring them in.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
you're going too Love Serendipity, it's such a Beautiful Bloom as is Mary K, it drizzled rain most of the day, you usually get the rain first, then it comes West over too me
I am going too goggle our weather forecast, we turned on the heat for awhile today, for my GS, he pulls his socks off all the time, his feet were cold, my cat is determined
too make me get my workout, she ran out of the house around the Garage twice, then when I was about too give up on her I grabbed her up, when DH comes & goes out of the House I have too grab her, in about another week all 3 of them are getting fixed, if I take them too the shelter it's only $20.00 each
I'll be so glad for you if the weather holds so you can see all those Blooms, it's so exciting

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

On TV tonight , it says that theres a chance of us getting a frost on Sunday night.Yuck! It's gonna be a busy week.
You will rest a lot easier, once they are all fixed. You haven't posted a pic of them in a while?Come on, show us how cute they are.
Dee

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Yes, Please do show us. I love cats.
Dee, I feel your pain. I have been searching for anything that will make a plant stand. I have alot in and de-bugged and sprayed, but there is still alot out there. Cherub is blooming and everything else is either budded or blooming. The local weather says we are good until the end of October. I don't feel that in my bones, but here is hoping.
Both my Dolas have bloomed and are budded again, but no beautiful shredded blooms like Charleens.
