Sharon ~ Oh, that is wonderful news about your DH....whew! That must be a relief for you. I just clicked on JB's screen name and sent the feedback and it went through fine.
Jeanette ~ Yes, how is Bob today? Thanks for the reminder about the feedback for JB. Also, your tomatoes will ripen on the counter. I hear it is best not to refrigerate, if possible. In fall I put the unripe ones in the cool basement then take them out as I need them.
JB ~ The willows are planted. Now that I think of it, they may be too close to each other...I may have to move them, but I will do it soon before that become too established, or should I wait and just let them settle a while? You are lucky to have such a fast connection on facebook. Do you have wireless or DSL? (I have a slow landline, so no facebook games for me. Still I would waste too much time if I could, so it is just as well....LOL!)
Dave ~ Sorry about your back yard. Who is responsible should fix it, not you.
To everyone of whom I owe plants and seeds. I was gone all day today visiting with my granddaughter (unexpectedly), so I will send everything out on Tuesday instead of Monday.
Let me go over the list if I left you out, please d-mail me, OK?
Dave ~ various thymes and scotch broom
JB ~ Golden Vicary Privet
Jnette ~ dwarf sweet pea
merrymath ~ dwarf sweet pea, tall sweet pea, creeping phlox (very few)
WormsLoveSharon ~ Do you want any pink (tall) sweet pea seeds? You can plant them in the fall and they will come up early spring.
G-nite all....
Evelyn
This picture will stay small....
Plant propagation part XXI based on my own experience
Sharon:: unfortunately the swamp is of my own making. its my irrigation that goes off 2x a day at 30 min each. If I cut it back they all get crispy and start to turn nasy shades of yellow (yellow is a shade of brown isn't it?)
and who is the new little helper?
I do have more of my flat sock covered drainage pipe I could that I could use. I am thinking just ground cloth then gravel on top of that because I have no where to funnel the excess water to.
just a thought on how to clean it up.
fadeing fast so i will take my bow and fade away
It is done my friend. Thanks Miss Jacquie.
Evelyn, I do not think I have an inch of soil left, but send them, Every time I smell them, I will think of sweet you.
Sharon, I have to know- was that pup photoshopped, or does he do the "Uncle Sam Wants YOU" pose by himself?
What a cutie! :-)
Cute.
Gee, you people are embarrassing me with all these nice things you are saying to me. Wow. I know I am good, but you make me sound really good. LOL
The Corkscrew willow I have has never been cut, Dave, and the neighbor who grows it in the fields sells wholesale to City florists so I have no idea what he charges. Sorry. I would guess you could make a price and see if they sell if you are interested. Kind of learn by doing. I am not going to sell them, I have some that was given to me by the neighbor and I use them in my Christmas things I make for the store at Tree Time.
I got an dmail from Terry today, I am sorry for her, she is just the messenger, but she said they had no record of this dmail I received. So, I sent it to her and gave her the return address. Speaking of feedback, I did not know there were two ways to give feedback. I usually just click on the name and give it that way, but then I see the Watch Gardner or whatever it is called has a way to do it also. Hmmmmm I learn something every day. One place would be fine and less confusing. I am just grateful I have such nice friends.
I would say if you planted the PW now, then they should stay where they are, but a few days will not change that much. I have moved mine after a week and with plenty of water they did well. That row of them I showed you all came from cuttings.
I think i will take a day off. I have no orders to ship and all the cuttings are in the soil except a few gardenias and begonias, so I think I will go into town.
Have a good day, I will get back to you all later. Hugs. JB thanks again for all those nice remarks. Love you all.
JB, did the feedback left by Evie and the others go to the Watchdog? How could it if they just clicked on your name. I guess it might have been good that mine didn't because then I had to actually go to Watchdog and post it. That is where people go to check to see if they want to do business with you or not./
I sure hope they all went there. That would be good.
Well, got an appt. at the clinic in town so gotta run. Will get back later.
No Jen, they went to my personal feedbacks, not to the Watchdog, that is o.k. I am so happy they said the nice things they said I do not care where they went. I have no idea how to leave feedback on the watchdog either. Share your knowledge, please.
JB, this is from Terry:
Do you mean in the Garden Watchdog? If so, go to the listing you wish to update your feedback for. Scroll down past the current reviews (just like you would if you were leaving feedback for the first time.)
Instead of the link to "Click here to add your own comment and rating to this company" you'll see a link in that location hat reads: "Add more details to your own comment and rating"
Happy Gardening,
Terry
Now JB, I am going to have to go back to Watchdog and see if mine went in to your file
cause I skipped over what she said in her second paragraph and just added it. :)
OK, Dawn's and mine both went to Watchdog.
Garden Watchdog is feedback on most of the vendors dealing with DG who you would probably purchase from. Most buyers like myself will check the vendor's feedback in Garden Watchdog prior to buying from the vendor. Some have a whole lot of problems so you would probably not purchase from them.
To find Garden Watchdog, go to the header "Products & Sources" and click on that. GW is the top one. Then you have to find the vendor you are looking for. JB has hers to include birds so you have to go by her initials and then look for one with the word birds.
Am I clear??
Yes, thank you, Jeanette! I put feedback into the Garden Watchdog as well.
Anyone can just click on Garden Watchdog from your or my message posted here and then send from there.
Hey gang, I want to apologize for causing any disruption here due to the problem I am having with the Administration. I am very annoyed and that should not show here. I am sorry. I am going to review my account information and depending on what kind of a loss I will be taking I am going to close out my couple of items on the MarketPlace and leave DG.
I can not deal with being watched constantly. Not because I do anything wrong, but because it is the principle of the thing. I have never been treated with such disrespect for my ability in my entire life and I am not going to start now. I take pride in my work and my results. I adore you all and will let you know when I am out of here. Love and Hugs. JB
JB Please don't go. I can understand the principle of not putting up with admin. I have never had anything come up from admin. I realize freedom to express oneself is a key freedom we all want to maintain. I do understand its personal and you have valid resons for what you do. personally I refuse to be told what, where or how to do what I feel should not be monitored by the establishment.
Dave
JB, find another forum, and let us know where you're going before you leave. I don't think any of us are married to this place, we'd much rather keep in touch with you.
JB I agree with all the above. I don't understand what the big beef is about, guess I am still a newbee, but I have never seen you do anything I consider obtrusive or wrong. I also will follow you. If you are in trouble, we all must be in trouble. In fact, I probably have said and done worse. Please don't leave, but if you do, let us know where you are :( :(
Lee
Come on you guys, this is a personal thing with me and and the administration and nothing you need to worry about.
I am not going anywhere just now. I may not post on here, but if you want me you can get my email address to talk to me privately. This is a good place, I love it, but I want you all to keep in mind that when you have principles you stick by them. Mine are the freedoms two of my husbands died for. Sounds wild, yes I was married to two United States Marines. I like the uniforms. LOL
I will not be watched by people on groups that I am paying to belong. I came here with the thought of enjoying and learning and meeting new people who all have the same interests, flowers and the propagation thereof. now I am being told to answer my customers when I already have done that.. it was a mistake on their part as well as mine. I will work it out with them, you can be sure of that. it is NOT acceptable and I will, if given the opportunity tell them how to fix it. Customer service is so important. WE are the customers of DG and I have a few suggestions for them how to improve their customer relations. I am sure Terry is reading this and will respond to this, and if so, fine. You all needed an explanation and from now on there will be no additional communication regarding this subject here from me. And, Terry, we will meet privately and discuss my suggestions. Jacquie Berger
Number one on my present prayer list is that this recent problem is resolved amicably.
MARY
JB I agree with the consensis. please let us know where you are headed and when it started, how to join and what we are doing.
Please excuse my brain today. its way off kilter and I am makeing no sense at all today.
so in advance Please excuse me and if I have said or offended anyone please excuse me as my heads on crooked...slightly to the side if you really wanna know
Thank you Sweet Mary, I am here for now or until they throw me off but from here on in, we talk plants and flowers and fun and games. And, Dave, get your act together, I need counseling..............love you all. Have a good evening. Enjoy your evening and keep smiling. I love you all. I am fine. Honest.
To all of you, please give DG a chance to make some changes and thank you for all your support. This was not a planned thing. I just lost it when I got that email. Maybe I overreacted but I will deal with the Administration privately.
Stay with DG please.....this is a very nice place, needs to make some changes but I am sure they eventually will. If they do not , then they are really stupid. LOL I am so bad. Love and Hugs. JB
question ..... have any of you experienced the following:
After clicking on SKIP TO NEW ..... instead of skipping to the newest unread post it goes to a screen saying YOU ARE NO LONGER WATCHING THIS THREAD.
Then I have to click to return to the thread .....then click watch this thread then click again to return to the thread
It does take me to the first unread post the next time I click on SKIP TO NEW
I find this very aggravating ....and it occurs quite frequently.
PS ... I hope Admin is monitoring this thread and responds to this glich. In the beginning I thought it was me clicking incorrectly ... but now I know it is not me.
Mary
All I will say is I AM NOT HAPPY. DO NOT MESS WITH MY FRIENDS......
JB see you on the other planet then. I understand your frustration. Makes ya want to cuss ha? lol
Let's all sleep on it. nite, Jeanette
OK guys, where are you? Usually when I come on in the a.m. there are posts on here by you guys in the east.
We haven't been above 65 degrees now for a couple of weeks so I guess it is time to start tearing down my decks. i.e. emptying all the planters for winter. I have to get them off of there so Bob can clean the snow off easier.
Trying to figure out how to insulate the big planters that cannot be moved. Like the one with my Japanese Laceleaf maple. Dave, any suggestions? Then I have smaller stuff that the plants can be left out except that the roots need to be protected. Guess I can heel them all in. Lots of work. This weekend coming up is suppose to be nice for 2 days so maybe I will do it then. Got hostas and heleborus to be heeled in. So much to do but all we have had is rain, rain, rain.
mornin or is at afternoon??? well lets see. its been a nice morning.
moveing way to slow.
planter with JM lace leaf. I am assuming it cant be heeled in. I have seem where people use insulation around trunks of palms to get them through our winter. I am guessing that might help. I will say on days it gets warmer than 32 degrees go out and check him to see if he needs a drink of water. that is the number one thing that will kill a plant (dry cold).
I have been moving stuff to get ready myself. its funny how I am thinking of winter and its still in the lower 90's.
do we want me to chat about the process of preping for the winter? focusing on containers above ground?
I do know if you have any planters that the plant is dead, dieing or your not going to winter over now would be a good time to clean them up with a firm brush and set them in the sun to dry. a lot of containers are lost because they absorbed water and crack when they freeze. unsealed pots especially the clay ones hold moisture and when the moisture freezes it expands and boom there goes the nice planter you found last year at the craft show...lol (just adding in visual imagery)
not much else to share today
Dave
Yes Dave, the plant is in a cedar tub. You know the size. Like the half whiskey barrels. So tell me about that. I know the roots might freeze so I have to worry about the plant itself freezing? The trunk etc? Wonder if I wrap it in insulation you would put in the walls and then cover the whole thing in plastic??? Maybe one of those big trash bags?
Ok, then what about 10 inch plastic pots? I have helebores planted in those that need planting but I don't have a bed ready and won't until spring. Can I plant the whole pot? What if it gets too much water in it? What do I do with these plants? If left out and they get water and freeze the roots, they are gone right?
Jeanette.... here is what I did with everything in pots last year and everything not only survived but thrive.
I placed all the potted items in the flower bed surrounding my back deck. Then I piled shredded leaves up to 2 ft high on them. In March I removed the shredded leaves and moved the pots to desired locations.
My small red leaf maple got no protection from the elements and had no damage .... it was in the ground.
I will be doing the heavy shredded leaf mulch again this year.
The leaf mulch appears to be a good weed deterant ... at least for me.
Mary
If you don't have access to that much leaf mulch, try surrounding the pot w/ straw bales- they should be available soon for the Holloween decorating season. I get them at a Feed & Grain store, but then again I live in Nebraska :-)
I don't have access to leaves, but I am thinking I might hang a sign in the grocery store that I will pay for bags of leaves. Last year I saw kids raking leaves. Wonder if someone else has already thought of that. I could use a half a dozen should work. I have no way to shread them, but I can fill the small grocery bags with them and pack those around the plants.
What do you think of that? Think that would work?
I wasn't even able to find straw to plant my tomatoes in the spring so don't know how that would happen. If I could get 3 or 4 bales and then pack the leaves inside the bales and on top of the plants might work.
JB, have you ever grown gingers? I got one in the tropical plant swap and I can see it is going to be beautiful. Love the leaves and it even blooms. Don't know what kind it is yet, so it will be fun to see it bloom. Think they bloom in the spring and summer.
Instead of leaves try shredded newpaper.
Jeanette .... do you have a lawn mower? Some peeps use a lawn mower to shred leaves by repeatedly going over the dried leaves a couple of times.
What about placing potted plants in a good size box ..... filling box with shredded paper?
Please post a picture of the ginger plant. If I purchase a ginger root at my nearby garden-farm store, will it grow if I plant it??
I just found out something interesting ..... you can post on the Garden Watchdog even if you do not subscribe to DG.
Somebody trying to imply that my recent review of DiMeo Blueberry Farm was bogus. Grrrrrr...... well I d-mailed the fool and gave him/her a piece of my mind.
Mary
LOL Dawn .... we kinda think alike.
That might be a good idea Dawn. Wonder what will they do if they get wet? Make a soggy mess? 'course the leaves probably will too.
Look in the plantfiles Merry. If you put in Costcus ginger there is a good picture in there. But if you put in ginger you get a whole bunch of different kinds of ginger. Most of them seem to get about 4 to 6 or 8 feet tall. They are a very different type of plant.
I have no idea if those roots you buy in the produce section will grow. Try it.
What occasion are you think of Merry that someone would post in WD even tho they are not a subscriber?
Sharon, how is your husband doing? Sounded like he was improving last time you posted. Bob has a dr. appt. tomorrow. I don't think his cough sounds any better but he thinks it does. Guess he knows best. How it feels.
Well, you all, got a chicken on the stove cooking for the dog's food, just a start for tomorrow. Better go check it. ttyl
Put the shredded paper in plastic grocery bags...... punch lots of holes in the grocery bags .... that should insure air space and allow the plant to receive some water.
Mary
I am going to grow some ginger .... think I found out all I need to know from this site
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6REPBZWCQso
The paper would bring a lot of worms to your planter. I use newpaper in some of mine to retain water and cool the roots in the summer. It works well.
Ok Dawn, you convinced me. I don't like to watch you tube Merry. Too jerky. I have enough garden books if I want to look them up. Let me know how you do with yours.
