Morning everyone! Betty enjoy your short day at work.
Hope everyone has a wonderful long week-end! I ahve my DIL, granddaughter and a close friend coming in tomorrow, so I will post when I can!
Best/Worse/what did I learn today? Visit with friends!!!
All the cobblestones are on Nantucket Betty. Martha's Vineyard is a much larger island and does have cars. It doesn't look as if Earle is going to be quite as bad as they were predicting earlier in the week. He is supposed to be around my area through the night tonight. I think it may be bad in SE Mass and just really windy and rainy here. We will be just fine. I'm concerned for heavenscape down in NC though. She lives very near the coast...Hope she posts somewhere to let us know she is okay.
Barb, that's where I went Nantucket, it was absolutely breathtaking..have you been? Been listening closely to weather reports as well, seems Earl is slowing down and is losing strength..let's hope it does...do you protect the homestead in any particular fashion when they are calling for such storms...
On my way to work the sky was bright blue, weatherman said it's not that it will rain ALL day long every day it's just best to carry umbrella as it definately will rain from time to time
Nice that you are having company LindaKay, asked so often if it was a long weekend for you all as well but no one answered, am thinking it might be?
Yes, for most of us, it is a 3 day week-end. Some of the people will take Friday off as well to make it 4 days, but the Government gives us Monday off.
Same here, already death on the highway not far from here, always try to get off the roads about mid afternoon as the crazies are all in a hurry to reach the cottage, especially this long weekend because most want to enjoy at least 2 days of the holiday, most go back home Sunday night as the kids start school and an extra day is needed i.e. Monday to settle them in..
The only things we do for high wind Betty is to take in anything in the yard that could "fly" and possibly break a window or do damage of some kind. If it is heavy, it stays out. I'll bring in the windchimes and birdfeeders and flag and maybe the lawn chairs.but everything else will be just fine.
I saw that Jaye (heavenscape) made out just fine too so I'm happy about that.
I've started a thread in sewing about interest for a new swap - placemats......check it out.
Off to get myself beautiful - Norm's taking me to the movies today!!!!!
How wonderful that you guys are 'dating again' which movie will you see? ahhh you are always beautiful..know you have a heart of gold!
Glad Jaye's ok, always nice to hear when friends are in the path of the storm that they are safe..usually it's Crissy we fear for!
Will have to check the thread out Barb..maybe with all the rain they are calling for I get get my Christmas blocks done and posted to you, don't want to be late..then perhaps I can join in and not feel guilty...
With having to find a home for all those Christmas boxes it got me thinking about all the fall fairs/craft shows and remembered that fall is the Ganz Open House..wow..found the site adv. still no date but usually end of October so have to add that to my list..lordy checked out my calendar, hardly a weekend without somewhere to be...
Debbie, get that passport before then..you'll see all the goodies, great time to shop for little to no $$$$....see
http://video.lfpress.ca/video/life/life/5828781001/ganz-warehouse-sale-bigger-and-better/46724657001
Cool! Put me on the list! ;o)
Goodness Betty, your very fast at knitting. Would like to see a better picture when you home, if you get the chance. Looks very interesting.
Barb how exciting, a date with hubby!!
Debbie you of all people I would figure would have a passport! That looks inviting Betty, wish I could just skip, hop, and jump up there! I want to go to Canton, TX
http://www.firstmondaycanton.com/
Betty you'll be alright with your boarder, look at all that stuff!!!!!
Dave said his interview was the best interview he has ever had! He was all excited last night and said he WANTS this job!! I really hope he gets it.
OMG Betty-every year when you talk about Ganz I say to myself that the next year I will be there for it and never seem to get it right!!LOL They had such cute stuff shown on the news clip, I would love to see all the other stuff they have. And all the stuffed animals!! My goodness-you could take them all off the shelf and make a bed if you got tired and needed a rest;) Can't wait to see the scarf when done!!
A ??-what do you put in the middle of a placemat, in between the fabrics as a batting of sorts??
Betty-was it Drop Dead Gorgeous or Drop Dead Diva?? Or is it the same show just with diff name in Canada?? Not supposed to be on again til next summer:( It would be wonderful if they would change their minds though!! There are a few shows that only run in the summer when everything else is a rerun that I will be sad to see go til next year. So long to wait.......I was wondering if there would be a repercussion for her deciding to tell Grayson from the way Fred acted-kinda thought there would be, but NOT THAT!!!
Betty-that Jeff-LOL-thought you were putting a wallpaper border up!!LOL
Is it Labor Day in Canada too this weekend??
Mary-sorry you've been so sick:( Hope you feel better soon.
Stacey, I think they use regular quilt batting I believe in the placemats! Just a miniature quilt? I will have to ask to be sure.
I ask because I got some super cute halloween material I want to use to make placemats. Real simple, just that material as the main part and then a border.
Go for it, they are easy to do!
omg torrential downpour out there, let it rain/let it rain, trees are swaying back and forth and it's a hard time for drains to rid the street of water..yikes..only 1 1/2 hrs. left to go, sure hope it's over by the time I leave..
You can get a lot of patterns for strip quilting placemats Stacey..fast going..put the backing, the thin batting or adhesive flannel (lightweight the best) and flip and sew..did placemats, chair cushions to match in not much more than a day..have to find that pattern..maybe something you can use...
As for the knitting, only 10 stitches and each row grows about 1"..ran into problems though, there is a cut division in about 10' of the wool so will drop over to the knitting shop to show them before I head home..
Drop Dead Diva for sure, love watching it..you know as I watched it and saw Fred's expression, then her meeting Grayson at the restaurant what came to me as maybe a final episode, was that Grayson died, you saw her tell him as he lay dying who she was and therefore once telling the secret she died and both would walk down the road hand in hand...both gone but happy...hmmm didn't quite turn out like that..
Stacey yes it is same holiday..sure hope you have better weather than we..probably a touch of weather system that's playing havoc east of us..
Stacey, the pattern I have is quite simple and if I showed you the sections that can be marked on the batting you could do it from a visual..
A pattern would be good I think. I really want the center piece to be one piece and then the 4 borders....
Stacey, that will be easy to do, just cut out your center piece, then cut strips to go around it, till you get the size you want.
There will be placemats galore thanks to you LindaKay..lol..
With this heavy rain and not much to do at the house, just might find it's a sewing weekend..
Betty, we are having a downpour right now.
High the last few days has been in the 90's....tomorrows high 62 with rain.
DH's car "blew" in Rochester yesterday. Trying to get someone to tow it back home for us (45 miles) as its in the city...and don't want to blow my engine ...which already has a engine light issue on.
So Betty, Sept. 21st? In the middle of the week...I think that is a Tuesday. I will put you in for then....I can't wait!
We got rain today...about two minutes worth....sigh....not even enough to wet the mulch! :o(
Sorry Debbie, wrong, must have been looking at a different month..will call mom in the morning and see which of the next 2 weekends she wants to pick from..I'm losing it! lol
Joyce, I'd share my rain, it's finally stopped at least for now..
Went into town, look at screened panels, made sure the right windows were delivered, went over to the mall, lordy about 20 bolts of pitiful material was left at Fabricland..$1. yard but nothing good so left without purchasing a thing, then off for Chinese!
No soon came home talked to Ann, we decided to get together at least one night and perhaps one morning on the weekend and paint wood covers for recipe books, each of us to go through our painting books and find appropriate patterns so we can pick one..
Rita, Cathy's mom came to visit and brought along a pair of jeans for shortening, she and Cathy are always doing something around here so told her I'd get them done in the morning..
Then Cathy dropped in while her mom was here, we all had a great chat, they no sooner left that I decided I'd go looking for the painting patterns, got to tell you with everyone using my books I couldn't find a thing, soooo that led to 3 hrs. of organizing...i.e. Christmas/fall/trompe l'oeil/furniture painting/oils/genesis/scenery etc. etc. got to say I was shocked when Christmas project books filled the entire 2nd shelf..just goes to show you I love Christmas, then came 1/2 of a shelf just for Halloween, come in 2nd to Liz on that one.. only a few minutes ago I decided to take a 5 minute break and realized it was 9pm...figure about another hour and craft section of the craft room will be back to normal..now if everyone who uses my studio puts the books back in the section from which it was taken it will make life easier to find a project rather than go through 500 or more books..lol
So all this and I still haven't checked for the pattern but am organized..might leave it till morning although I'm off to Meaford at 8am and am hoping to be home by at least 2, doubt Ann will come over until Sunday aft. so that gives me a lot of time to hunt
Guess my break is over..
Carol e-mailed me the worksheet project Ann and I are doing on the last Sat. of September..scratch art...should be fun!
No paints involved, just a few basic tools I'm told, main one is an exacto knife...
Will be interesting...
Want to gab, that's because I'm tired and would rather gab with you all than go back to cleaning, but I must..
Betty, give the books to the Nursing home or community center....they would LOVE them!
We haven't heard from our Tubby & Shirley all week.
Keeping them in my thoughts and prayers.....I hope your both doing well.
Bev, hugs to you and Scotty.
I need to get myself to bed....I have to get up in 4 hours already! GRRR!
Debbie
Are you up to pick up the vehicle Debbie? Just what you needed, repairs!! Sending prayers for you and yours Debbie as well as Bev and Scotty and Laura..
Storm outside, lordy, high wind/rain; am trying to figure out what to wear today, one could almost put winter clothing on, no wonder people are sick with flu/colds, such drastic changes in temperatures..good day for shop browsing, got to find some swap items so I can get them mailed, might even find a fabric shop or two along the way.
Debbie could do, still good painting books, some are duplicates and some I know I'd never paint out of..will check ..
Figure if I leave at 9, stop for breakfast, leave Meaford at 1:00 I still should be home early enough to get the afternoon in on a project, might even find baubbles for that back door.
Hope you find something interesting to do today in your neighborhood..
Betty-I was thinking white and opalescent for the beads...just a thought. Maybe you need to make a sign about returning books to the correct section...
I couldn't sleep for beans last night, was up restless 1/2 the night. DId some reading. Finally layed down at 4:00 a.m. and never heard DH or Mike get up to go get the car. When I woke up, they were already safely back home at 7:30!
My older girls are wanting to go out today, so we might venture to Rochester (ugh). They never get up that way, they live Buffalo way, so I will just enjoy their company. Shannon works, so will just be the older two as of right now.
Everyone enjoy your day.....and long weekend
Debbie
I was supposed to work today, but have been having cramps since 3:30am and am not going in. I read online and it seems to be false labor pains (at least they better be false-to early to have the little muncher). They are irregular, sometimes 10mins between them and sometimes 40mins between which is why I think they are false....
Praying that they're false and stop soon, Stacey...
Betty, I was WOWED at your shelves...you could start your own library! Maybe you should have your new tenant learn how to restock shelves, just in case your "borrowers" aren't so good about returning to the right place!
It's finally a cool morning here, but it is expected to heat back up next week. It will be nice to have a cool holiday weekend though.
Betty, have a grand time....I know you will.
Does anyone have Tubby's phone number?
Absolutely nuts, can't believe I've just got home, turned on fireplace upstairs and downstairs to get the chill out..of course, out in the bush looking for rocks (joined a painted rock swap) while it's raining to beat the dickens gave me a chill, just waiting for water to boil to make a hot chocolate then a hot bath it will be..
As for the rock swap, not that easy even in this land of rock everywhere you look to find the correct rock for a specific project, found a few now let's hope they work out..
Too funny, walked this rockline, some were as big as I, this one with rounded top I could imagine being a turtle..needed a backhoe to lift it though lol
A rainbow greeted us as we entered Meaford..
Got lots of goodies, no beads though, will have to search further for them...
Did manage to get my 2 swaps items, a Christmas Gift for Jeff, golfing Santa omg was $95.00 and I got it for $12.98 not that Jeff wants Christmas decorations but I wanted it for him..am sure it will be in the storage area of his house with everything else I want for HIM!
Got mom a birthday pressie to go along witht he others I bought her, had to purchase one for me as well, not sure what else I got, have to check my bags...
LindaKay got you some sunflower material, will show you a photo and will post...bought some adhesive flannel for a few more of the bags I make however, saw one done at the fabric store, didn't purchase the pattern because it was $18.98 and know I can fake it so maybe tonight I'll cut it out and work on it if I don't fall asleep before then...
hmmm isn't that awful, buy things and can't remember what, BUT, I love pumpkin pie so purchased a few pumpkin pie candles, going to light one when I go upstairs, sure to make the house yummy..
Stacey, keep a close eye on those pains, don't want another young lady to be in labor far longer than she should..perhaps it's something you ate, however, baby could be early, both of mine were 4 1/2 weeks early...
Debbie, hope you are also enjoying your day in Rochester, we'll have to venture there one weekend that I'm visiting so you can show me the best areas to shop..getting a bit tired of Buffalo..lol
Joyce, glad the temps are cooler for you as well..no, don't have Tubby's telephone number, perhaps Susan had it, usually Shirley comes on and gives us an update...was last Monday he was to have gone to hospital right? been a long time since no word..
Bev and Laura, need updates on you two as well..friends here get worried when he hear no news..
Lordy is it windy outside, half the stuff on back deck is on the ground..yikes, better do down the hatches..
Barb, are you ok, know it's not suppose to hit your area until later, please keep us posted...
Well, must go see what I bought..lol
Some I can show you photo's other no go only because some of the swap thread buds might be lurking..
Looks like it was your lucky day, Betty...
I love to rock hunt. Wish I could paint like you...it would be more fun to search for them!
I have quite an idea for the rock for my swap bud but have to think it out a little more, might be frightening for her..lol
Half the fun is hunting for that special rock..yours and hers are Georgian Bay rock..hard here because most of our rocks are layered shale type rock like this one that's probably about 200 lbs. - drats couldn't take it home but I'd have tried had there been room..lol
