What are you working on??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hollyhock or hardy hibiscus??

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Hollyhock. They had been sitting in the frig and just decided to put them in the garden. Also did dump out some seeds from the 'Peppermint Schnapps' hibiscus just this morning to see if any would sprout. Have you had any luck with the seeds sprouting?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - never did plant them! Forgot about them.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Will let you know if any decide to sprout in this hot weather, or do they need the winter to sprout next spring? Either way worth a shot.

Apology accepted, JoAnn.....hope the folks in Labrador don't mind me sending them a hurricane!

I've been retreating from the heat wave the past few days, but before that, I was pulling weeds around the blueberry plants. When I'm done, I want to seed that area to grass and let my husband mow it instead of me weeding it. This is called division of labor. ;-)

' Evangelines Arcadien Gardens"
There is an epic poem about her.
Evangeline. We had to read it in grade school. She and her family emigrated somewhere and the poem is about someone missing her I think.
The Victorians were all soppy about poetry like this. I am sure, given the date and look of the Staffordshire ,it was a reall seller in the day.
Like collecting posters of rockstars now.

Hey Bill somehow things just have a flow that way.
I am repacking the china and my reward when finished, will be starting a new painting in my cool basement studio.
Marilyn has inspired me to paint Ligularias. I love ageing foliage so it should be fun.

Here's Hollys most recent project that I got roped into helping with: Ric
So here is another small project I put together a couple of weeks ago. I had 2 old hog troughs, we use to use these when we raised a few hogs. I took one of them and sand blasted it. Ric sprayed it with some good primer for me. Then I gave it a coat of satin Black. Filled the bottom with small stones to give the pots a level spot to sit in put the chocolate colored terracotta pots in and added a few water lettuce. There is Alocasia 'Hilo Bold', Colocasia esculenta 'Mojito' and I think a Xanthosoma lindenii 'Magnificum' which probably shouldn't be in there. I have one more just like this one but it has a broken leg and hole in the bottom. I think I will clean that one up for next year and plant it with mixed sedums/semps & succulents.

Oh this really nice. Good use of an unused item. I love it. Using the other for a planter ia also a great idea.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, like we'd notice! Well, maybe some of us would, but I have so many weeds, I'm getting used to them!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too! This is the 2nd year in a row my gardens have suffered....mostly from neglect. Weddings take alot of your time. :(

Thomaston, CT

You have an excuse, Pixie......I just get lazy if it's too hot......70s are good weeding days!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

There is a predicted low of 49* for tonight. My poor coleus cuttings,I have hidden them under the bacopa to stay warm.

:)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Who says it doesnt take much to be a gardener?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they are just starting to fall back asleep... always good to run around and get a full belly

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

took me 10 hours yesterday to weed and clean up - more to do today

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Allison!!!!!! I am confused or havnt read back on the thread far enough. Are you referring to coleus or puppies?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

The weeds are the only things that seemed to thrive through the heat and humidity and drought this summer. Now that the cooler and wetter conditions have arrived they are going crazy. Try to pluck a few here and there every day but the only thing that will get them all is a frost I'm afraid.

How true!

We went to a horse show, but before we left DH looked outside & saw the iris beds full of turkeys. they like to take dust baths. He herded them away but we will be busy tomorrow morning replaceing the irises we divided & planted last week. they have not had time to secure their roots as yet.
