What are you working on??

South Hamilton, MA

Trying to figure out a bulb order. Mainly spanish bluebells & that type. We have enough daffs & too many tulips will attract the deer.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Major weeding will be started when the kiddies are back in school.

Tomatoes! In the oven, on the stove and more on the porch and the garden is still loaded. Good grief. I am not doing this again.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sherri what the heck after last year your complaining about to many? too funny!

Thomaston, CT

Who gets to use the horri horri knife? I have requested ours, getting tired of pasture grass.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I just plunged a garden edging unit into the border so the tomatoes wouldnt overhang the grass.I also cut back DL's and re-routed the summer squash for the same reason. It was DD's time to mow the lawn.
I have also deadheaded echies ( there are enough of them in that spot)
Took off the Agastache Apache sunsets to about 12 inches.
Planted mums.
Now I find out from a DG'er the ones bought in spring have a better chance of living more than a season here.I makes sense, better root system.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I like that AGA.... I usually leave mine until late winter... when I see new growth... is that wrong?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

When I have a plant cutting question I go to Bluestone. They usually list plant care with the plant. They say deadhead Aga's unless you want self seeding.
Apache Sunset sent 2 babies last year and Apricot Sprite didnt self sow.
Blueston recomends cutting back to 6 inches late fall. Thats too late for me because seeds are already set by October which is Late fall for me.
I took the middle road and went for 12 inches, there were already teeeeny green shoots at the base of the stems.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Anyone planting anything yet??

South Hamilton, MA

Neede to replant irises & put in the ones which arrived this summer. I was afraid to do so before we got our rain.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Too hot for any planting yet here, 90s again for today and next several days. Been taking out some things and getting space available for transplanting though. Also did a little deadheading of butterfly bushes and echinacea. Noticed several self seeded HH plants growing too. ^_^ I did move three of them the end of last week to better spots.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

planted 11 hosta today and one of the cornus artic fire's

Thomaston, CT

I planted lettuce.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I planted myself on a recliner.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I beet you to the recliner. There was an all day merithon of "American Pickers"
I love that show.

Thomaston, CT

Never saw that...is it about folks who go to tag sales?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Randy does to JoAnn... they go pick someones junk and make money off of it

http://www.history.com/shows/american-pickers

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes! they run a business and it's a skilled profession as far as I am concerned. It's not for the faint of heart or someone who thinks its a "get rich, while doing nothing"job.

Yard sales? Last week hit a good one. I was the 1st one there. Grabbed this for $1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250687226996&viewitem=

Yes I do it for money :-)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That takes me back to when I was ten.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

good for you ... if you have an eye for those things.. it could be very profitable

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I think people are borne to know what has value and what is junk.
American Pickers seem to have a group of clients who collect in certain genre.
The 2 men who are all about the show, have been friends since the 8th grade and have had a passion for "picking" As little boys they started collecting treasures and trading them for lunches and favors etc.
Its an "art" altho they do make bad deals from time to time and pay for things above what their value is.

Jo your right. 1930's I belive. It was either a Chevy or an Olds. Jobs are not available now. So I do the yard sales and auctions. Yesterday I went and came home with a lot of glassware. This is in the living room. Thats not the kitchen counters, another table and lord if you saw where I sit you would fall over backwards.

This is just a taste of yesterday.

Nice china.Who is buying that sort of thing now days?

People collect stuff. Some of the brown transferware 100+ years old can be chipped and cracked and people still buy it. I would not give a dime to "own" it.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The reason I asked about the china is I had a sentimental attachment a 12 pc.set my mother had. I packed it all in one huge box thet weighs over 80 pounds.I moved it here and now it sits in my studio in the basement. I had thought to put it on Craigs list but need some assurance there is a market for it, before I have SIL haul it up to the garage.

Here is a platter I sold for 26 bucks. It had a chip 1-1/2 by 3/4. Most people would throw it out. Then I had a compote with the base broken right off and glued back togather and it sold for 64 dollars. Some things are just crazy.

What is the name of the china? Then depending on the age and name - QUALITY and is there a whole set.

That platter above was made in 1881 so its actually a piece of history.

Jo - I will help you the best I can or at least steer you in the right direction.

Can't believe it's wedding time already! You'll be relieved when it's over! Keeping my fingers crossed that the hurricane goes south, or way to the east!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Glad they had fun.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OK Mailyn !!!! Way east means us. Thats me and your niece Laurie. Be careful about where you toss your good will
LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

?? East means way out in the Atlantic.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Just chalk my last statement ,up to geezerness.I have had a busy AM and need to rejoove my brain with some shut-eye. I unpacked and photoed a china set I have posted on Craigslist plus shopped a farm stand and made Caponata from the only 2 eggplants that are showing now.
Sorry Marilyn.
Sorry those in the Atlantic who Marilyn sent the hurricane to. LOL

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Had planted some HH seeds that are sprouting in this heat. Hope they don't fry.
Sounds like a good time pixie. Try to slow down enough to enjoy the wedding, best wishes to all.
