Tropical Garden # 81

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

prita, you better watch your back yard woman ! That Asiatic Jasmine.'Snow- in -the summer might just disappear ! the passie's are all kicking in now, many are "shorter day" plants or dont' like really hot night time temps. Now that it's cooler at night, and shorter day's they are happy.
I'll be gone all day tomorrow, so I'll have to catch up on everyone 's beautiful pic's. This is by far my favorite thread !

Debra, you can cut your Philodendron brazil back if you want to and put the cutting's in a pot to create more plants if you would like.

Rita, bigger house or move to a tropical climate;o) You know I will share Joepii with you when I can and I honestly was surprised that I was a winning bidder. Cool looking Alocasia Loco, you find some of the neatest plants and it's good to read that all is well where your Grandson is concerned.

mjsponies, please post some more pictures of all your Passiflora blooms when you can and have a great day tomorrow.

Rita, it's actually Angiopteris evecta ("pteris" is common in fern names, derived from the Greek name for ferns). Commonly called King Fern or Giant Fern. Full grown it looks like a prehistoric tree fern. The trunk is massive but only up to about a metre high and the fronds up to about 6 metres long. They grow naturally in Australia and out to Madagascar. They like lots of water and a warm climate. I have a small one, but hopefully in not too many years it'll be be like the massive one they have inground at a local nursery I go to.

Well Rita you were right I removed all the tomatoes from around them and wow they took off. How long before the seeds are ready?

mjsponies, thanks, the Jasamine is new plant for me, and on the pricey side. I only bought a small 4"pot for a trial. I am hoping that it will do well in full sunshine.
We are looking forward to seeing your passion vines in all their glory. I hope that they are as pretty as your Lavender lady.

This is also a new Salvia 'Wendy's wish' that I planted earlier this spring, so far, I am giving it a thumbs up.

RachelLF, thanks, you are a very generous person. Hopefully, I will win the next plant up for auction!

Tropicbreeze, thanks for the information. That is a very interesting Fern, but unfortunately, I will have to pass in trying to grow that one. It will get too big for my little hoop house. Please keep us posted on the growth of your plant. I will enjoy seeing its progress. We all enjoyed watching Rj big fern grow up.

pensacolagarden, I leave them on the plant until the first freeze. Mine came back voluntarily from seeds left out all winter.

prita,
I have Wendy's Wish too ! and it is a very lovely Salvia. The Hummer's in particular love it, and it's a gorgeous plant and quite easy. I've planted it in several situations from full sun to Part shade, in the ground and in a pot and it's not disappointed in any.
Here is Passion flower morifolia "Woodland Passion Flower" the bloom is just about 1 1/2 to 2 in. across.......a super one for someone who'd like to grow them inside

I had Pink Powder Puff, but lost it last winter which surprised me as it made it thru the winter before, which was just about as bad.

Well... some new flowers this morning.. No Hurricane here this time... but it all shook with the wind.. and with lots of string trellises blowing about.. it was difficult to stand everything I could see was moving in a different direction.. I felt like I was aboard a boat and had no point of focus for personal stability... but it spured a few things not blooming yet to get it on..
one of the nigh blooming cereuses... this is the one Logees has...
edited to say..Glad I looked on the other side of my fence this morning...and .. with the NBC is the night blooming jasmine.. heavenly scent..

mjsponies, very nice passi flowers, but the foliage on the Trifasciata is awesome. I had to stop and check it out. They are available at Zone 9 in Houston. With all the garden sites and lurking I do, I can't imagine missing that beauty.

Dirtygirl71, what a handsome little fella, he seems to be checking you out!!

Tina_A, thanks, that is a new (Curcuma alismatifolia) Siam Tulip. The ones that I planted on the south side of my house did not come back this year as in previous years.

Gordonhawk, I love those moments of surprise in the garden that make you reach for your camera!!
I really didn't know New York gets weather off of Hurricanes, that's interesting.
I am happy to hear and see that everything is hunkey dorey at your roof-top garden. Great pictures!! More please!

pensecoagarden, your pictures show all the TLC those plants are getting. I keep forgetting that you are no longer living in Florida.
