Rita, it's actually Angiopteris evecta ("pteris" is common in fern names, derived from the Greek name for ferns). Commonly called King Fern or Giant Fern. Full grown it looks like a prehistoric tree fern. The trunk is massive but only up to about a metre high and the fronds up to about 6 metres long. They grow naturally in Australia and out to Madagascar. They like lots of water and a warm climate. I have a small one, but hopefully in not too many years it'll be be like the massive one they have inground at a local nursery I go to.
