Morning Glory adventures in Kansas Continued
Beautiful as always, Debra. This one is quite eye-catching: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8077551
When do you start moving them to the basement? Are the temps cooling there yet?
Debra, My stictocardia never bloomed in the heat of summer but yours might be getting ready to set some buds with the cooler temps and/or
shorter day length.
What a wonderful week on vacation. I got to have my morning glory breakfast with a few friends, we had a wonderful breakfast of French raisin toast, blue berries, cherries, red raspberries, sliced green apples, cantaloupe, bacon, sausage , cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice. And the view was great for the handicapped, she sat in my chair by the window where She could see them all. Even the hummers came to visit.
All the Splashes were splashing for everyone that morning, the mauve one and the purple one, even Patty could see them from inside, almost up close! I found some other blooms in between the two patches, and they were Beckys Henkas, but I couldn't get a good shot. Emma's Gray Fog, the Plum Delight, and the Plum surprise were showing off too..Jackies beautiful Sanzami, and Helen's purples and pinks were all showing off... The big white i. nil from gardener2005 that I bought were re-blooming, and even Charleen's little red morning glory's were open on the Umbrella pole with the Crystal Willow and Jaimie lynn . It was a fabulous casual morning..

So then, we went to my sons place, we thought we would swim or at least float on a raft, go out and fish.. but it was so windy we would have been airborne, so we just waded and floated on our own speed, sunbathed to a short nap on a dock down the way, exploring around at the wild flowers I had thrown down last fall, so many milk weeds were blooming and the beach glory from Remy did not have a bloom that day..
Dh is in Buffalo,NY, where I normally am at this time of the year, so having the house to myself was nice, but sharing it with a DG friend was even better.. we went to Tropicmans place that evening, and then to a club to hear a blues singer play.. My older children were there they all got to meet AuntB.. Tropicmans place is better than the Botanical Gardens and the Tropical Rain forest at the county zoo here in the big town of Wichita, this is one view from the street of his place, and it goes on and on in that quiet little neighborhood..
We had breakfast the next day and coffee on the patio, sitting there watching the birds, hummers and butterfly's.. then we went to work,I had some things to give her, she brought things to me that needed potting, and I am getting ready to bring things in.. so easy to get distracted when you are on a task.. ..
This is a SOH from cibarius..
September is a wonderful month, it is time for the state fair, the festival here in my little town, and also the month of birthdays. Happy Birthday to all of you September people.. I have 7 of them in my family..
we went out into the country the next day up by where AuntB is from.. and we found some interesting things,,,
Even tho it was raining and muddy, we still got out and looked closely..
She found this, I never would have seen it.. it is the native white star I think...
I love my adventures in the country, I am always looking for the mysterious shumar diana morning glory, and still long to see a real native bush morning glory.. but until then, the blue hederaceras in the corn fields excite me enough..
there were some beautiful blue morning glory's in the cats tail rush, but it was in a ditch ravine..
we ended up in a cute lil town of maybe 100, on mainstreet, at a little cafe that was done up cute for chicken and noodle soup, cheese biscuits and tea.. it hit the spot.. We really were hungry. It was a great time on my morning glory adbenture, I hope to go back out in October and maybe collect a few of the other seeds, but I know one thing for sure, I now have a friend in the crazy Native morning glory hunt, and she loves them too!
Back at home the blue ray mutant was still going..
My little setosa vines had bloomed, and now there is a pod, the messina creeper is setting pods, alata is still hanging around, and this was greeting me .. i HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHICH NATIVE VINE IT IS, i KNOW IT IS A SPECIES, IT WAS OPEN DURING THE DAY.. OOOPS caps lock.. it is on the patio, in the north corner barrell...
RRM, if you scroll up on this photo you will see your red mg up there.. The photo of Keiryu did not turn out, but it is blooming, so is sanzami, and yourjio from Jackie.. thank you for letting me see these wonderful blooms for the first time. The guests all agreed that I had a wonderful display of blooms here, but their favorite is from Nicole, the big dark rich looking blue she sent.
Debra, I've heard poets get drunk on flowers and good fellowship, but to go cavorting after morning glories not only in the garden, but throughout local fields and shores - all in the name of joy - brings this forum vicariously to a new, wonderful level - can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. Thank you.
(new thread - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1126739/ for us slow dial-uppers)
