Morning Glory adventures in Kansas Continued

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I also planted some seeds of this Gomphrema, didn't think they were ever going to come up, but here they are..
above them is is the moon flower, a Cleome and then the I. Purps over the tall Kansas wildflower pink lady thumbs.
I like layering and having things come up continually while other things die back or take a long time coming..

This one opened against the stick, here you can see the true mauve in it. Poor thing..

No matter what this one is, I am glad she is still producing, I had to cut her a bit, she pouted and now she is coming back a bit.. So far I have 8 large Pods from it.. Hope they don't pop open during a windy hot day and scatter.. I have a bag over the first two large ones.

Helen, your purples are to die for.. I think I have about three of yours that I have shown so far.. I will save a seed pod from each of them and send them back to ya.. I like the seed packs from you that say " Large purple pink star center NOID"
:D

like this one..

I don't remember the packet this one came from, but, since it IS BLUE... I am hoping to see more of it and lots of pods..

I didn't realize I had so much to look at.. I go out with a plan, intent on doing something productive, but end up just wandering around inspecting and peering and oohing and ahhing, these flowers better get to hopping, as it will be cold soon..

Can I keep this one, MOM? LOL

from BlueSpiral, who got it from Emma, and I grew it out of seeds from last year. Still going from Spring, it was one of the first to show..
I will ALWAYS love this one, and so will DH Joe.

I chewed my son out for letting his vines get like this on the fence.. he has some really cool ones here that I planted this spring.. I think he will water them now that I threatened to quit tending to his gardens..at least he didn't feed them with weed n feed this year.. he will be 35 and he is still ever so happy to learn.Grandpa Otts, Denim Blues, .Rebecca, SOH, RC, Blue Jishis, and Akatsus, pink I. Purps and Purples, Moon vines and a caudex Glory are all in this little corner and along his fences... down on both sides of his dock area are the beach glories I planted, they have been blooming he said, I asked him to get up early enough before work and take a pic, but I might have to go over before work myself and take pics..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Now for some reason, he waters this area alot.. I just planted some four oclocks to the west side of his deck ( on the left) Sunday, and Planted some trees I grew from seed, and a crape myrtle, on the North fence side of his yard.. He needs some shade there..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Keeping the weeds at bay, and the fact that they are on the North side, really helps I think ... He really likes the Beautiful Morning Glory, he should, he grew up with them..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I threw some panduratas down on his beach area up by the walls, but I haven't seen them come up.. Maybe next year..
I did see the poor struggling cairo messina creeper down there, it hasn't a chance if it isn't raining much here in Kansas.

He has so much fence area to use as trellis for glorys, and last year his vines were so lush.. but last year it rained a lot.
He says he doesn't have time to water, it interrupts his fishing time. HMPFFF So, I watered them all along his fence, and even fed them. I bet they were starving. The Geese used to come into his yard and fertilize everything, but he has shooed them off so much, they hardly ever come by anymore..
This is what an undernourished, under-watered morning glory vine looks like in the Heat of Summer...

SOH saying goodnite to ya'all.. get up early to see the beauty.. it doesn't stay around for long, if you have vines and wait until 4 pm to see them, they blooms will be shrunk and hidden away somewhere in itself, a friend of mine at work told me none of her blooms came on , I asked her what time did she look at them, she said around 5 pm.. I told her to get up early and go outside, and then check back with me.. she did , and she called me at work today to tell me she had the most beautiful blooms.. I told her I knew she did, she was just missing them..

Debra - Looking great all your pretties! That white bloom with the small pink flecks/speckles is neat! Looks like a cross to me. I am glad your dh has found one of the I. nil cultivars to love! Hee, hee ... that's how you do it ... let them slowly creep into his heart and then he'll allow you to expand your garden for more beds to grow plants in! Hee, hee ...

That's funny that your friend never saw her MG blooms. I always tell folks that they are called "morning" glories for a reason. LOL!

You sure have had some really beautiful blooms this season! I can't believe Fall has arrived and you will start moving all your plants back down to the basement. This season seemed to fly by too quickly for me. :-(

Great blooms Debra. Love your Rebecca and unknown pink, so pretty.
Like the gorgeous purple bloom from Helena too.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

I am in awe Debra. I need to work on a plan for trellises for next year. I am thinking of planting the MGs in my iris bed. It is so yucky at this time of the year and if I can fill in with the vines, maybe it won't look so bad.

Gautier, MS

I'm glad you liked the purple blooms Debra. You did a great job growing them. All your blooms are gorgeous, the purples look better than the ones I grew. You really have green thumbs!!

Debra
These two cultivars are exceptinnels, and I would even say that the first is enigmatic.
What are its origins?

UHM, Dany.. the large white came from a MIX from you.. NOID. I really like all the NOIDs I have been growing .
LOL
This was peeking thru behind the rose bush this am, I almost missed it.. I didn't take time to look for a tag.. I was already going to be late for work.

This bloom is actually almost a midnight blue.. it just doesn't work to take pics in the almost dark, but that is when they are first open, and when I can get a look at them..

I came home today to tall pots of hibs and brugs blown over on the patio from the Harsh winds today, supposed to have rained, but nooooooo .. not in ToTo Land here in Derby anyways..
*sigh*
This is also a very deep vibrant blue... I like it alot, I might pull one pod off for a friend, but I am letting the seeeds drop right here on this one.

Am I so obsessed that I go out at night to see if there are any new buds? Oh Yes.. and of course, I have to check to see the newest moon vine bloom, and it makes me happy. There I am peering thru a nice spider web to see the next jewel for in the morning..
This one will get to stay right here, too. ugh.. that ant feeder needs to be cleaned! Hummers never go there, they come to the patio for their meals.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Can't hardly see them, but those cute lil' hederaceras are gonna stay back in that corner .. I like them alot too.
Can't get enough of those blues in my books. I trim the vines off the rose bushes when they stick their little arms out to them..

sometimes ya hafta be tuff..

Some nice lady sent me some PawPaw trees,( You know who you are). They are back in the woodland area of the dog run, and I can't wait to see them this spring.. but right now, instead of grass all around them, there are THOUSANDS of little "cots" up from where I left the huge wound up vines last fall. Bad me...oh well, they will never make it..
Wish this one would open in the light of day on a Saturday or Sunday, dang it.. This is on the northwest corner barrell..

The huge lite blue i. nil is having a hard time getting all the way open, the other vines are bugging it.. it has some nice pods on it, I am thinking of cutting it away from the "neighborhood" and moving it to a "penthouse" for the rest of the season. Any thoughts?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I am pretty kacited about the i. jaegerii.. it is about to bloom. YAY! this seed came all the way from AFRICA to me!

I love having things from exotic far away places, that I will never go to in my lifetime.

She is back, and just a pretty as last year..

Tonight while collecting 4 o clock seeds, I watched about three honey bees trying their darndest to get a moon flower bud open. It was entertaining and comical. They finally got it open enuff to get inside, and then as the sun went down, it opened up fully, already pollinated. On the 4 o clock row, I found a bunch of seeds just sitting in a cradle with no leaves, that Sphinx moth had laid an egg or two, and the cat is huge, but I am letting him eat as much as he wants, since he leaves me the seeds .. :)

Another bouquet of beauty in the north tomatoe patch this am..

This bloom was the size of a saucer this am... found a tag.. nice large purple, pink star center noid ...Helena

it has some pods.. it has been blooming at the bottom of the fence.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This one is still going.. but it has about 8 good pods, and the rest have aborted so far. Hmmm.. it can't be from lack of anything, it must just not want to be duplicated? Heck.. who can second guess Mother Nature? ( Not Me)

A little break from MGs.. this beautiful Salvia came from MJponies in marketplace. I highly recommend her for a source of cool plants here on DG.
It will come in with my other non hardy Salvias this Fall, right before it freezes. I get alot of good things from the marketplace here on DG. and, no, they do not pay me to advertise.

Trading is the best way to get cool things , tho...

Wonderful blooms Debra love them all.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Dany, one of the pods from this will be saved for you.. Please remind me!
I love it. It had three blooms open today, up and down the main stem of a tall tomatoe vine o the south end bean patch garden. The line of buds across the leader wire are still lined up and growing. I kinda hope they wait until Sunday, I am inviting a few friends over for breakfast and a tour of the morning glorys, but they will prolly open before them.

Why thanks, Robbie.. I am glad you stopped by.. how are your vines doing? I will have to go and see if you have any new posts.
I was saving this for last. the tag says Beckys Kikyo Ice. Becky, does this look like a Kikyo ice? I hope so. If not, then there is another tag somewhere, and Kikyo is about to bloom, cuz when I went looking for the tag, I found the vine and it was budded..
