(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thank you Jackie and Helen , I have seed pods for you both of the flower above. It is raining here today, so no flowers to view, but I did see these yesterday..

Monardas will bloom all summer if watered and cut back.. like this one in the north patio barrel , and these are wonderful butterfly and hummer attractors.

I have been looking thru my records in hopes of finding the name of the mystery MG vine that is taking over the patio, and here are what I planted.. I. Jaegeri, I verbascoids, I. Obscura, I. merremia siberica, I. Obscura unident Ethiopia, I. Merremia Tuberosa, Alata, I. Unident Sp. Austrailia Karrabeck, I unident Sp. Marbeck, I. Ocherea, Beach Morning Glory,
Baby woodrose. These are just from memory, and I know I ordered some others from Africa.
Still waiting on blooms from Stictocardia. Argyea Wallachi, and Transvaal. Also I. Lindehiemer, and Albevenia.

Here is Argyea Wallachii and I know it is not spelled right.

Taken by the natives from around the world, I have been in search of the unusuals.. I also have I. Plantesis, and I. Macchoriza, also not spelled right. This is the beach Moon Vine from Remy, at the SampleSeedStore. The ones I planted on my son's beach were going all over his dock area, I need to go look at them.

These are setting pods with hundreds if not thousands of seeds. I am going to save a pod for each MG friend and send in the next swap. They are perennials and the hummers love them. They do like moist soil, and thesse are in a pot, and they came up from last winter.

These also grow Native here in Kansas, and like the red cardinalis, like moist soil.. These are called Great Blue.

The North Tomato patch is a nice sight in the ams, and is good growing companions for this MG.

I always fear I won't get pods from the blooms when it is raining, but I can see the hummer out there doing its job, even in the rain..
I. Lind is content in climbing the now Identified Kansas Native Joe Pye weed on the patio.

Those photos should be in a calendar... they would make nice family gifts, especially that first one, it looks so nice. In CA I had a mirabilis that was Cream colored, I've never seen another since then. Have you seen that Salvia that grows to something like 6 or 7 feet tall? It must be heaven for the Hummers.

Pretoria, South Africa

Debra,

All your flowers are beautiful, but the first photo really takes first place. What a beauty!

I love your Monarda. For some reason I haven't been able to start them from seed. I also have some Lobelia cardenalis (growing next to my tap) and they just get better and bigger each year. Would love some of your "Great Blue" seed should you have any to share in future.

Happy gardening,
Elsa

The 4 oclocks are beautiful, esp the yellow. I also love
the big red Lobelia

Debra,
Is this the MG you think may have crossed with SOH?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8058620

What a keeper that is!

Gautier, MS

Thank you Debra , not going to let you forget that!! All your blooms are really pretty. I have an peach to orange 4 o'clock that I grow and like too.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Emma, Yes, that is the one. I have some seed pods ripening on the vine tagged for you. I sure like it. I am glad ya'all like it. Seeds for everyone. The pods are HUGE.
Elsa, I will send you some great blue seed pods, the seeds are very very tiny, looks like dust. They like cold stratification so keep them in the fridge for a few months. Monardas also need stratification to germinate. I will try to get some monarda roots to you this spring when I thin them out. I have about 6 varieties.
I love four o clocks too. We got a nice rain, it blew down a few brug pots, but the buds are still intact. The Lobata on the patio is blooming, failed to get a picture.

So even If I crossed something intentionally, there is no guarantee it would be the two I crossed with, since the bugs go at it all night and all day, non stop. The north fence just buzzes all day. I have net bags over the pods I am saving, don't want them to fall into the ground until I get everyone some seeds out.The huge tall sunflowers on the North side of the House have been supported and tugged back up so many times, the moon vine that has been tugged out has sent out runners everywhere. Fortunately, I have it in a large pot sitting in the forsythia tub, and if it gets broken, I will be able to save about 5 ft of it. There were 4 spent blooms on the white with magenta specs vine tonight. They were huge. I missed a show.

Thank you Jackie and Antoinette,

Sorry Debra, I wasn't paying attention and didn't mean to post my photo on your Thread :-(

Too bad Yanagihubuki won't produce seeds. There are no parts, so it is sterile like the other Demono Forms - but what a delight to look at. Also, this is the only vine. I started 2 seeds, but the other one didn't make it.

Is okay with me to post on my thread Emma, you just add beauty to it. That flower is awesome! I collected three dried seed pods from the light blue tonight. I also collected two dried pods from the huge white one. I didn't know that was an Orihime, Now I feel better. Joseph sent them to me. Thanks!

Wow, your Plum Rayed Star Blooms are awesome.
and this one
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8064639
I don't have a clue from that particular bloom. Maybe I will recognize what it is after more blooms - unless it is a cross.

YOu should tag that bloom and keep it separate from any others to grow out and see what it will continue to produce.
INCREDIBLE!

Your 'Orihime' also spelled: 'Oreheme' is unusual in that the Center is a diluted color. Really Awesome
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/161677/

Here is one of my blooms this year to show you the difference with the Center
