Can't hitchhike now! Not safely!
Hello everyone! Jaye just called, and said they have so many virus ' on her computer, so it off to the geeks for a thorough cleaning. They don't know when it will be back. She will post when she can! Also she said to be aware of a window popping up, claiming to be a virus attack. If you get a window pop up telling you your computer in infected, make sure it is your anti virus progfram, not a hoax one! Click on control, alt, delete, and close it down quickly!
PLEASE be careful what links you click on. There just seems to be so many sick people out there with nothing better to do, than send out nasty programs like this!
It was a lot safer then, but still not 'safe'.
you know what, did have one this morning, thought this is odd...glad I deleted..
Joyce, reading a local paper and they have a caramel recipe posted, know you make the bestest ones but might be worth a try:
2 cups white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup evaporated milk
1 pint heavy whipping cream
1 cup butter
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
Grease a 12 x 15 inch pan. In a medium size pot, combine sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, evaporated milk, whipping cream and butter. Monitor the heat of the mixture with a candy thermometer while stirring.
When the thermometer reaches 250 degrees F (120 C) remove the pot from the heat. Stir in vanilla. Transfer mixture to the prepared pan and let the mixture cool completely.
When cooled cut the Carmel into small squares and wrap them in wax paper for storage
Hey Betty - thanks for your email - I know I haven't been posting much, mostly lurking.
Did you see the "HI Betty" I sent, from Jaye, yesterday? I was talking to her.
yes I did, thought it was CUTE!
good.
I'm feeling a little down.... just got a call from the company I really wanted the job from. It's been offered/accepted to/by someone else..... siiiiiiiiiigh
They're encouraging me to apply for other jobs with them (SAIT - technical college)
Well if they are encouraging you they must want you in some form or other. While that is not a job offer it is certainly better than a quick rejection. Go for it and you might get and even better job fit with this place. You liked the place as well as the job, remember?
How are you today Janice???
If memory serves me correctly, you and Stacey had said you'd come join me at the Meaford Scarecrow Festival..lol..what time are you arriving?
Janice - it's not any type of job offer. Thinking about it..... it's really just a standard thing to say (by someone who is being professional, in HR) to make the letdown easier. Any HR person worth their salt will do it this way. There is nothing on their site (of 13 positions) that fits my qualifications.
Susan, I was so hoping that things would be better in Canada. I hope that you will get something soon. I'm at 20 months now with only one interview in all that time....my feelings are starting to hurt!
hugs for you both...some of us have jobs and aren't certain we want them and then other want them but don't have them..yikes, not fair!
I just told my mom today....I don't want a job....I want a paycheck. :o)
Wish it were that easy ??? right, me who does nothing and gets a paycheck..
20 minutes to go, keep yawning, if I weren't afraid to fall asleep and go beyond 3:00pm I'd close my eyes...been gabbing to all the girls I hang out with who spent time today at Dannie's with psychic and they were all so impressed, hope she doesn't run out of good news for me at 4:00 p.m. lol
Oh, Betty, I would love to meet you at the Meaford Festival but Stacey is a little busy at the moment. LOL I would love to come over some time for that. I hope the colors are better there than they are here. We have had a little cool weather but no frost and the trees are just not changing even when I was in Michigan last week. Guess this is not going to be one of our prettiest years.
I am trying to get up the energy to go to St. Louis to see Dad and then back to Lansing for a while to stay with a friend. Once I get home I am going to stay there! I find I really like to be in my own home with the dog and my sewing machine. I can find all kinds of things to do here.
I also hate to board the dog for the two weeks I will be gone. Not only is it expensive but I hate to leave here for that long. I can't put her in doggie daycare the way I do when I am only gone a couple of days since she would be just too tired playing with other dogs for that long and the only other option is a kennel where she gets no play with other dogs. I was nice when I had the other dog that my friends and family would take for a while. She was so laid back everyone loved to have her come to stay. This one is still a puppy at 1 yr. and she is too active for most.
Haven't seen my grandson for almost a week and I am getting deprived. Miss seeing him and holding him when I took Stacey to the hospital.
Janice, know the feeling, I could SOOO just stay in the house and play with various projects, I've enough of about 20 different craft interests to keep me going for at least 5 years..both my friend Ann and I were looking at all the wood pieces I have stored and wondered how on earth I'll get them all done, then sewing/stained glass/knitting (machines)/ crochet, etc.etc.can't understand why I can't do everything...if I finally get to work from home at least I'll have more time to play..2 hrs. a day just intravelling time .
Greg & Melanie (son-DIL) had a gorgeous quiet natured pup Sophie that I loved to look after, then they went and got NED..yikes, talk about high energy so I don't offer anymore to look after them, do when they have no other choice but would rather not.
Got to tell you, when Sailor is gone, that's it for doggies..maybe a kitty as I could leave for a weekend without much bother.
How is your dad doing, hasn't he beenill of late?
Betty - I feel the same way about cats..... not going to have another pet - well, maybe a budgie......
Our cat, Baby, needs a babysitter, 2x a day, to clean her litter. If we don't clean her litter that often, she messes on the carpet/floor....... So, everytime we go away for the weekend camping, etc, we have one or the other of our neighbours come to look after her. She's quite the Diva - needs constant brushing, playing with, etc. She loves feet......... and will wrap herself around anyone's...... she's not fussy Whose!! ^_^
Dad fell last Monday and while he didn't hurt himself it took the hospital a couple of days to make sure. He is now back at the retirement home in their health center and then back to his apartment next week. He was supposed to haave a solo in the men's chorus concert next Saturday night but since he hasn't gotten to any practices that is on hold. He will be 103 this January and still going strong!
Oh Janice, that's wonderful that he is so active at that age! Glad he's back home and doing better!
Hi everyone! I'm back from the conference, got home about 4pm and am physically wiped out so I'm going to call it a night and see y'all in the morning!
wow - 103!! Happy birthday, Dad!!!!
Take care of that body of yours, Dad.... No more falling, k?
How lucky for him Janice not to have broken anything..imagine 103..Roger's grandma was 102, my grandma was just shy of 100..can you just imagine everything they've seen in their time..from horse/buggy to someone walking on the moon, state of the art inventions..remember grandma telling me the hardest thing was to have her entire sibbling die, all her friends and then most of her children, not to have anyone to talk about the good old days..heart has to go out to the elderly, much is missed, not just the good health either.
Time for bed..gab later
Look at the longevity here!!!! That happened to my dad's mom Betty, she was 94 when she passed and had outlived all 11 siblings, 27 1st cousins, of course aunts, uncles, some nieces and nephews too. But she had the gift to gab and you were going to listen to her stories if you wanted to or not! LOL
I just got back from my interview - it went very well. She's only interviewing 4 people and will know, by the latest, Oct 12th who she will be hiring.
Also - a shocker for me: The woman who took over my position has left the company!! She quit 2 weeks into taking over, and she's been gone for a week now. She moved down east (Ontario) to be with her family and grandkids.....!! This was a surprise for them, too......
I know they couldn't offer the position back to me because I took the 6 week's severance they offered, but now that time span is over, so I'm going to see if I can get the position back........ I've emailed the vice president of HR (she's out of town, but will see her email....) to find out what she sees as the situation, and what MY options are.
I'll let you know what happens, one way or the other.
Whoa Susan!!! She knew she was going to do that when you got laid off, that's not something you do on spur of the moment, what a sneak! Wouldn't that be cool if you could get your old position back!
Susan, she must have known of her move when she took the job??? Me thinks the company must have known. Best of luck with both positions, would be great for you to get your OWN job back...sending prayers.
thanks Crissy & Betty.
Betty - are you home now?
No it's only just after 4:30pm...won't be home for about 1 1/2, maybe a bit longer because Greg wants me to drop by and shine his new snowmobile..what a kid!!
Betty the company wouldn't have known if she didn't tell them. That's way beyond the normal 2 week notice.

I got 6 weeks notice, Crissy - partly (they said) because of my age.
I only found out because I phoned Maureen to ask for a ph# of a physician we supported, and someone else answered. She told me that Maureen had left CLS.
I know I'd have to wait at least 6 weeks before re-applying, but I'm not sure how much more, if any, I'd have to wait.
Well, that just sux that she took your job and then left....hopefully all will work out for what's best for you!
yeah, it sux, BIG TIME
well, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.....
Right Susan, I know you got 6 weeks notice, but the gal who left should have given the company a 2 Week Notice. I'm talking about her, unless she was talking about leaving, the company wouldn't have known until she gave her 2 weeks notice, which was after you were already gone.
She knew she was leaving, no one else did.
She took over the job on August 23. She announced she was leaving 2 weeks later, Sept 3rd. Her last day was Sept 24th. So, she'd given 2 weeks' notice. The company did not know she was quitting until Sept 3rd.
I didn't get 6 weeks' notice, I got 6 weeks severance. I only got 4 day's notice. I was told on August 17th that my last day was August 20th. My severance pay "did" until now. Now I have to wait 2 weeks without pay, on Employment Insurance before they start to pay me 2 weeks later (total of 4 weeks).
That's different, here they pay you consecutively until it runs out or it will completely mess up your employment insurance and everything else.
I didn't think the company knew she was leaving, they wouldn't have laid anyone off if they knew.
No, Crissy - they wouldn't have laid me off if they knew. They would have just deleted her position and "that would be that".
The 6 weeks severance ends about Oct 2nd, then I wait 2 weeks, without pay. So, I expect I'll get my EI on Oct 30, or Nov 1st. (4 weeks after the severance pay runs out).
Anyway, I now hold no ill feelings towards Maureen. As a child of God, she needs his comfort and love, too.
