2010 Sistahs reunion at Cookies..the memories! #4
Between problems with young puppies and some with older doggies, we sure are having a time of it...
Tiga was acting weird last night, she was awake and wanted to play, or so it seemed, but she wouldn't. I told Dave maybe she just doesn't feel good, she is 14 and has a right to not feel good once in a while. I need to give her more anti-inflammatories I guess, maybe her shoulder's bothering her.
Prayers for everyone's dear 4 footed companions that are hurting......
Crissy she sure does..14, that's quite an age, both of mine are under 5..lots of years left providing they don't go exploring and go missing again... Riley has been behaving since she's been home..nice to go to bed without wondering if she was dead or alive..not a good feeling..
It's 75 here today, beautiful breeze, little to no humidity..oh happy days!
It's lovely here today, too. Had exercise this morning and it was actually cool when I went out to walk the garden at 8:00. Just got back from giving plasma and now I have to work on the pond until it's time to go get my hair cut at 4:00...never a dull moment...
I used to have two cats, Tiga and Shooz, and they were the best of friends. One day Shooz came up missing, I have no idea what happened to her. She was my violent boyfriend's cat and he left her when I gave him the boot, I've always wondered if he decided to come get her after 4 years had passed, she wasn't sick or anything and she never showed up on the dog pound's quarantined list, so no one found her dead in the road.
You can only hope Crissy that someone took fancy to her and kept her as their own.
She ran everywhere, she was a very fit cat but never disappeared. She was a short haired black and white skinny cat.
Pray for me sistahs and bruddah..... I just got laid off from my job, effective Friday, and they sent me home early today.
My last day is Friday.
Reason is - making a long story long....... - Last Dec a big-wig boss was asked to take leave of absence and the co hasn't gotten him back yet (they don't want him, actually). His secretary didn't have that many duties. My boss started taking on his duties, and now he has 2 secretaries (Maureen & I). Maureen has been there more years than I, and she's an Executive Admin Assistant, to my Admin Assistant position.
She "covered" for me while I was on vacation last month, and they're going to tell her that she now is full-time assistant to Dr. Baskin.
So sorry to hear that Susan, but know that He has better plans for you!
Just don't understand Susan and I'm sure you don't as well..you got a fabulous review, had so much work to keep you going how do they think they can give 2 or 3 more work and not have them overworked and doing a 1/2 (*&^ job...lordy it makes me mad!
well, I'm 56, and if I'm going to get my career job (about time, doncha think?) I'd better get it, so I can retire well!!
Good luck Susan...I hope things are better in Canada than here. I am thinking I'm going to have to come up with a self-employed job, cause there are just no jobs out there for me. I will pray for you for sure.
where did everyone go??
I was wondering that myself, little fairygirl! How are you feeling now a days?
I'm here!
jobs are better here in Canada than US I gather.
And the unemployment is lowest in Alberta than anywhere else.
I'll do fine, though.
I've got my fingers crossed for you! Hard not to question God's big plan....but I still have faith!
Thank you, cookie dear! ^_^
I'm here, had a busy day and now it's time to say Beddybyes..
These weekends are hard on this old gal..
See you tomorrow
I would say my main feeling is anxious. Anxious over the money, getting ready for him, the delivery, pretty much everything.....
Think that goes with the territory Stacey, you are now going to be responsible for another human in ways you cannot imagine, finances play a big part of it as well... that is stressful, however on the other side of the coin you'll have so many blessings that happiness will far exceed your worries.. enjoy every bit of what is and what's to come.
Not the nicest of days out there, I've cleaned the house and now I'm back working on my 4th carry-all pocket bags, should be done by noon, had they not run out of fusible flannel the other 3 would be done; as I can't go outside and play today I'll check what projects are sitting around saying 'make me/make me' and get at it..
Enjoy your day
Sounds like a fun day, Betty.
I agree with Betty, Stacey...you are about to have joys you couldn't even imagine...
I'm thankful it looks like the weathermen got it right this time. It's 68 out (100% humidity right now though) and they're only calling for a high of 83. So looks like the day should be good to be outside.
Got the brisket all sliced and the second sauce on it. In the frig now waiting for the right time to be heated. We're eating at 1:00, so I've no idea what time people will start to arrive. Guess I better not wait too long to get my shower! Right now, the house is getting my attention with straightening, dusting and sweeping!
Enjoy your day Joyce! Relax, it will all come together and from your post, almost perfect weather.
Have a great day Joyce! Sounds delicious!
I am pretty sure that I won't see the joys for a little bit, all I'll see is dirty diapers and exhaustion-LOL After we all get adjusted and the baby gets used to life on the outside in terms of his development, then I think it will be more enjoyable...
Is there any brisket left for me?? It was delicious at your house Joyce:)
Well, 54 people later and on my feet all day....ran out of meat...I'm asking myself....why did I agree to do this????? No, all in all, my mother enjoyed herself so much and everyone acted like they had a good time, I will probably do it again next year. I didn't even get any brisket. :o( Far as that goes, I didn't get a hotdog either! Had 4 big pies, and a cake. Every bite of pie was gone and there was maybe 1/3 of the cake left....sigh... I was too tired to clean up the dishes after they left. So that's facing me this morning. Guess I better stop whining!
My folks came at 11:30 ( I hadn't even had my shower yet) and then the others started to arrive shortly after 12:00. We had a nice variety of food, but everyone was really hungry I guess. Jordyn brought her boyfriend, and I have 2 other great nieces that were born just a couple months around Jordyn's birth, and they both brought boyfriends as well. Anyway....those young ones can really eat! The last of the relatives finally left at 5:30....sigh...we were putting the tables away when Bertie called to ask if my company was gone. I said yes, "just"...she said well you're getting some more. So she and her SIL came over so I could meet her and she could see the pond and garden.
The kids had a ball collecting buckeyes. Even climbing the tree to get ones that hadn't dropped yet. Cheap entertainment. I haven't seen many buckeyes on the ground. The squirrels are getting them and putting them away as fast as they drop, or maybe before they drop. Doesn't look good....sounds like a hard winter coming up!
Guess that kitchen isn't going to clean itself. I took a walk in the garden and came back hoping the kitchen fairy had done it, but alas, still there....wish you all were here to help me.
Jaye...I gave away Kels caramels yesterday, so I'll be making another batch as soon as the kitchen is back in order. Let me know when you want me to send them.
Hope you all have a wonderful day. It was 60 when I walked the garden earlier....signs of Fall have arrived.
I just had a mental cartoon run through my head of kids climbing trees to get the buckeyes and squirrels grabbing onto them as a tug of war over the precious winter commodity ensues-LOL-I guess some days you just have to live in my head!!LOL
Joyce-I wouldn't count those fall chickens before they hatched;) It will feel like fall is coming to me when the temps in the day don't go about 75...glad that your mom seemed to have a good time, but sorry you didn't really get to eat....
I told Bill that I'm going to get a brisket and fix it for just us....we never get enough to satisfy. He said...."right...that'll never happen...", now I HAVE to do it just cause he said that!
They're calling for a high today of 81*. I'll take it if that's really the truth!
How do you fix Brisket?? I know that it seems a lot of people have it for BBQs and such, but have never made one here....so love them so though...
hmmmmmm I have a recipe for 7-day Corned Beef, but I don't have one for Brisket.
Is it the same thing???
Western Beef Brisket
6-7 lb. Beef Brisket
Day ahead of serving:
First Sauce:
1 c. catsup
6 dashes Worcestershire sauce
4 dashes Tobasco sauce
3 tsp. vinegar
2 Tbl. brown sugar
Wrap brisket in aluminum foil and bake at 350* 45 minutes per pound.
During last hour of baking add first sauce above. Refrigerate overnight.
Slice against the grain.
Reheat in the oven with the following sauce:
1 c. catsup
4 Tbl. vinegar
4Tbl. white sugar
4 Tbl. Worcestershire Sauce
2 tsp. liquid smoke
Heat through. Usually about an hour.
Before I put the first sauce on the brisket I remove as much of the fat as I can. Just a FYI... :-)
This isn't a corned beef brisket...just plain brisket. They usually come in the 6-7 pound size.
And oh soooo good!
aha - I finally found my "Seven-Day Corned Beef" recipe!!
Here it is:
Seven-Day Corned Beef
4 Tbsp pickling salt 6 Tbsp crushed pickling spice
2 tsp salt petre 2 cloves crushed garlic
5 lbs beef brisket
Mix together pickling salt, salt petre, crushed pickling spice and crushed garlic. Rub into meat. Wrap brisket first in heavy brown waxed paper, then heavy brown paper. Tie with string. Keep at room temperature for seven days, turning parcel every 2 days from one side to the other. After 7 days, rinse the meat in warm water (not too thoroughly). Place in kettle. Just cover with water. Bring to boil. Reduce heat. Simmer until meat is tender. Allow 20 minutes per pound plus 20 minutes extra. Remove from pot. Sprinkle generously with paprika while warm.
Susan, corned beef is good, but you need to try the brisket. YUM!
this is corned beef brisket......
Thanks for the recipe, Joyce. I was wondering how you made it. It was indeed finger lickin' good! Almost as good as your caramels but they are still my favorites.
I haven't thought of buckeyes since I lived in Ohio 25 years ago. We used to use them for Girl Scout crafts. Fund stuff!
Stacey's shower is coming up this Saturday and I hope people have as good a time as they did at your party. Food is a problem since I still don't know exactly how many are coming. Young people today either don't know what RSVP means or they chose to ignore it.
Have a good time at the shower, Janice & Stacey!!
That is truly the truth about the RSVP...drives me nuts!
That is the truth..RSVP's are a thing of the past..you almost have to be pshychic
