Kyle is almost brilliant, carries the cares on the world on his shoulder, works into making the community a better place to live..i.e. his fund raising efforts for 'cancer' etc.
I always see him with friends in a 2 or 3 group but notice when large groups evolve he takes to the back...Greg and Mel have sent Kyle to this specialty camp for well over 7 years..this year the main theme is getting certification for being camp counsellor, now he'd do well in this because he'd be the one in control and teaching rights/wrongs lol it also had specific upgrading for life needs...good thing, am sure he'll enjoy now that he's there, but if he's having difficulties, they will call and Greg can go get him..it's only 1 hr. away from here on Lake Simcoe...
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!
Diabetic furries..lordy, read so much about everyone having furries that need meds, needles, that I'm feeling badly about worrying so much about Sailor...now tell me, could it be something in their food that we purchase..seems strange that it's a prominent illness that they have...yikes...just like humans aren't they?
Guess in the old days, people would just let them die, didn't take dogs/cats etc. much to the vets did they, so they may have had it but we didn't hear about it...
Lordy I've been chatty, didn't even take out my crochet yet..
Do they still sell Crackerjacks? I went for the peanuts and prizes.
Betty Kyle is one of the most intelligent kids I have ever met, has he ever taken an IQ test?
No, not sure that he has...is is extremely bright though but some say that's the other side of the coin, they are too brilliant...if it's something that interests him he can tell you how it's made, where it's made, how you can improvise to make it, the pro's - con's etc.
When he was younger I took him to the winter carnaval parade, he wasn't interested in the floats, but the tractor, now he had an interest in tractors at the time and went on and on and on about the tractor, man next to us was totally amazed...
Do think though it's not harmful to have him interact..maybe he could schedule their activities..
Remember he went for 2 weeks at Camp Borden as a cadet, when he came home he knew shortcuts as to how to bring in these young cadets to make them feel more at home, more on schedule, eating times etc.
Bet they were glad to get rid of him because he'd be the first one to tell them how they could improve..lol
Thank you for the compliment, you know how us grandma's think all our grandchildren/children are special, always nice to hear someone else say same...
You back to feeling your old self now Crissy?
Betty one of my boys is named Kyle, and your Kyle..sounds a lot like mine....almost too smart!! he sure can go on and on about a subject he is interested in!!!
Mine is off today for his visit with the Navy, If they approve of what his hand/wrist surgery looks like (he broke it years ago, has pins, getting x rays to see what it looks like now)....He will be signing in to the Navy....
God Bless Your Kyle Thunder. I don't know whether to hope he can get in or that they will say no. I've the utmost respect for the military but am scared for all our troops right now.
OMG Thunder, bet you are having mixed feelings about that..so hard having them join the army/navy. Glad mine are too young to do such things, but Kyle did join cadets, so guess that's a first step right...
Yes, if you find something he's interested in you almost are afraid to ask them about it, need a few hours to get all the particulars from them..lol..
Tubby, my word for today is ????
me too, Barb, me too........ Canadian troops as well............
And God Bless Your Kyle Betty. To have the compassion he does at his age is so commendable.
Betty, I have several green fabrics I can share for your loon piece if you would like them. Thought some would work above the water and some would work below.....
This message was edited Aug 17, 2010 12:06 PM
Absolutely Barb, you've already sent me some black/white which I think I can use for loon, some of those you just posted would make beautiful background, especially the 3rd from the left, some of the others would be great for trees...if you can, I'd appreciate whatever you could share..will send $$$ for postage.
Bingo night tonight. Ann's daughters are up for a week of vacation and to spend time with their dad, how wonderful for them to have quality time, anyway, Ann and Melissa will be over to win the big $$$ and LeeAnn will stay with Mike. We have to win one of these days don't we?
Morning,
The itchies are better...but not gone. I have a 3:20 appt. at dermo doctor.
Betty, I am taking 2 benedryl....and it is knocking me out. MAYBE you should drop Sailor down to ONE pill. Even Izzy (at 95 lbs) only takes one when she gets stung by bees.
Mary, so glad I was right on the "Decoder" of Dixie Rose! LOL
I think Dixie was on one of my "name" lists. LOL
I have to get ready for the docs....he told me "No makeup I have to look at the rash on your face too!" OMG that like going out in the streets naked....
Be back in a few hours......Betty, try and stay out of trouble and stop moving sheds. Next you will be trying to rotate the house or something. lol
Debbie
Debbie glad your itchies aren't as bad, maybe the dr today will give you something to get rid of them...today!
Betty I'm fine, thanks!! He should take an IQ test, if he's not genius level he's close to it. Pick Greg's brain about it, it would be interesting to know.
ROFLOL Debbie!!!!
Maybe Debbie the benadryl that I am using isn't very strong, will check the dosage and post it tonight and you can see if you think it's too strong, of so I'll cut her down to 1...twice a day!
Imagine you knowing what Mary's puppy is just looking at it..you should try seeing if there are any vets that are hiring.
Debbie, am sure when it comes time to put me in a home the boys will make sure that they have straps or bars on the room..one way to keep me quiet
Went to Big Chris' B.B.Q. place, wow, what a meal, ordered 1/2 and still had 1/2 too much..was yummy in the tummy, won't have to cook tonight for sure...
Was reading the local paper and saw Porter Airlines offering discount flights, some in the USA, going to have to check..think a return to Chicago is like $250.00 not bad..cheap enough one could travel there for a long weekend...isn't that right Judy??? lol
The ' L I T T L E ' Things
As you might remember, the head of a company survived
9/11 because his son started kindergarten.
Another fellow was alive because it was
His turn to bring donuts.
One woman was late because her
Alarm clock didn't go off in time.
One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike
Because of an auto accident.
One of them
Missed his bus.
One spilled food on her clothes and had to take
Time to change.
One's
Car wouldn't start.
One couldn't
Get a taxi.
The one that struck me was the man
Who put on a new pair of shoes that morning,
Took the various means to get to work
But before he got there, he developed
a blister on his foot.
He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid.
That is why he is alive today..
Now when I am
Stuck in traffic ,
Miss an elevator,
Turn back to answer a ringing telephone ...
All the little things that annoy me.
I think to myself,
This is exactly where
God wants me to be
At this very moment..
Next time your morning seems to be
Going wrong ,
You can't seem to find the car keys,
You hit every traffic light,
Don't get mad or frustrated;
It May be just that
God is at work watching over you.
May God continue to bless you
With all those annoying little things
And may you remember their possible purpose.
A M E N
WE WAS BRUNG UP PROPER!!
"And we never had a whole Mars bar until 1993"!!!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930's 1940's, 50's, 60's and early 70's !
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.
Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonald's , KFC, Subway or Nandos.
Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY no video/dvd films,
no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
Lawsuits from these accidents.
Only girls had pierced ears!
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time...
We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!
RUGBY and CRICKET had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on MERIT
Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and bully's always ruled the playground at school.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and 'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL !
If YOU are one of them!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Pray for me sistahs and bruddah..... I just got laid off from my job, effective Friday, and they sent me home early today.
My last day is Friday.
Reason is - making a long story long....... - Last Dec a big-wig boss was asked to take leave of absence and the co hasn't gotten him back yet (they don't want him, actually). His secretary didn't have that many duties. My boss started taking on his duties, and now he has 2 secretaries (Maureen & I). Maureen has been there more years than I, and she's an Executive Admin Assistant, to my Admin Assistant position.
She "covered" for me while I was on vacation last month, and they're going to tell her that she now is full-time assistant to Dr. Baskin.
OMG Susan, that's terrible, golly, you didn't see it coming either..had you a clue that this might happen??? surely you'd have mentioned it, you must be devastated. Shaking my head here, don't understand these office politics..praise people up and down one second and lay-off the next...
Susan, are there a lot of jobs in your area? This has not been a good year for you with not selling your home, then the trailer and now this....heart beating a mile a minute here..I'm in shock..
Haven't had supper yet and the girls are coming for bingo shortly so I'm off for cereal (ate to much at lunch so now it's a light meal)..Greg had already been here and done the metal roof, flew the coop most likely so I didn't give him another chore..
All but making the gardens around it and decorating, but will wait until next year, it's done...
Betty I just love it. But you do need to cut a half moon in the door!!!! Now I can't wait for next summer to see what you do with it.....
Yes, will cut the moon, going to hang a grapevine wreath and a few other things..
OMG, know you are probably bored to death me gabbing about the shed, but, just have to tell you what happened..
I called Greg's house, Melanie said he was having supper, handed him the telephone and first thing I say, 'thanks a lot for cutting the metal and putting it on for me Greg' just like a good mom should do, thank their son for their efforts, he gets snippy, 'mom, I said I'd come and I will, had to come home for supper first' hmmm, 'but Greg, you already did the work how come you are coming over?' nope, not Greg, he said he was just getting ready to come over..so who was my earthly angel? didn't tell anyone what I wanted done or did I, yep, told Bernie the other day..he and Charlene were out on their trikes for a ride and dropped in so that Bernie could cut the tin in 1/2 and also put it on...so, made the 2nd call to Bernie to thank him..brothers, got to love them...
Here's the funny part, Bernie arrives with Charlene, looks for the shed where I built it, no shed, looks on side of house, no shed, looks in the secret garden, no shed, quickly looks in back yard and no shed, so he says to Charlene, 'Betty must have given it away' lol .. after walking the yard he found it in the bush..says to me 'who puts a shed in the middle of a bush where nobody can see it???' I started to laugh..'your sister that's who!'
Guess Greg isn't the only one who thinks I've lost it...
Time for bed, yawning away..Ann & Melissa just left, poor as paupers, we didn't win a penny playing t.v. bingo
Waving to all
Night/night
Prayers for all who are in need!
Susan Big (((HUGS)))... I am hoping that ... like with Betty's post above...this just means there is a bigger and Better opportunity out there for you and God is just looking out for you....
Debbie - There you go again ...the Psychic Dog Namer. YES... "Dixie" was on our list... the only reason it hasn't made the cut was because DH had a Dalmation named Dixie for YEARS ... so DH says...what about "Pixie" which doesn't work for me because I worked with a girl named "Pixie" and darned if she didn't look JUST like a Pixie... Skinny with short white hair !
I love Lucy (LOL) but that voted down by DD1 who loves the old Lucy shows and "That's not a dog name". This poor dog will never have a name !
I have read everything but need to remember all my replies....so back in a bit...
Hugs,
Mary
Hello Again !
LOL Debbie ! Yes I HOPE we get all on board re: Puppy! What are you reading ...got any recommendations? I just finished a book yesterday but wouldn't recommend it...very slow....
Judy - if I had to work with DH I suppose it would end in divorce! How DO you do it! and you are SO excited ! What is it you are painting?
Betty - I suppose once Kyle gets there they will get him so immersed he will forget that he didn't want to go !
Loved your posts... I do remember my FAVORITE place in teh family car was in the BACK window.... soaking up the sun... Mom would've got pulled over in this day & age...me not in a car seat ! LOL
Pup needs me ...back in a bit...
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, you would laugh if I told you. My Cowboy romance books. LOL
I just got two new ebooks also by Luanne Rice, Homefires and BeachGirls I think are the titles. Will probably start those at the hospital Thursday while DH is in surgery.
OHHH Just read A Summer in Sonoma by Robin Carr, I liked that. Was a romance, but not really what was expected with it.
Ok, Back to puppy names...this poor girl. Nameless. You should name her "SHIRLEY" Because SHIRLEY she should have had a name by now! lol sorry...my bad. OK, no Pixie or Dixie....that leaves Trixie.
This is stopping me from scratching...so I am getting goofy, and the benedryl is kicking in again. lol
She just sounds like pure sweetness....Sugar is sound like a good name.
LOL Debbie ! Well - I LOVE SHIRLEY... will surely let DH know tomorrow....
Trixie was the name of our pekingnese growing up... (After BOOKS! Remember Trixie Belden books?)
LOVE Sugar...again... voted down. Sugar was my dear Grandpa's white mutt growing up...
Maybe If I keep you occupied on naming my pup... you'll forget about the itch... (as if...right?!)
OH YEAH! I remember your bday pres... the "Books a Million" Book... thought about you...saw one of those the other day. Glad you are enjoying it !
Geez - if I got one.... I wonder if I would ever show back up at work ! LOL!
Hugs,
Mary
PS: Diane - what are you reading?
Betty - don't you go worrying about me. For goodness sake - those trifles you mentioned are nothing compared to what others have suffered - heart attacks, fear for family members in the forces, health problems, and 4-legged companions feeling poorly....
I didn't get the trailer cuz God knew I would be losing my income, and that's why I hadn't gotten a house with a mortgage.
I got laid off because there's a better place for me to retire from (I'm 56, and that's only 9 yrs from now), and I'd better get started on it NOW.
I got a great severance pkg (for a secretary of 2 yrs with the company!) - 6 weeks pay (normally would get 2 wks), I have $1245 in "flex $" to spend on anything I want, keep my benefits for 2 months, my boss wants me to "pump up" the # of hours OT I will get paid for (32.5 wasn't enuff he said, so I made it 61!). Part of the severence was because I'm older and that was taken into consideration. PLUS they're giving me $1k to get retraining or counselling.
In my last 3 days I'll likely get treated by the Drs.
btw - in my meeting with my boss & HR (Donna), when I found out I was "redundant", they told me it was a show of my character, the way I handled myself in the meeting. I told them I knew it was a business decision and wasn't taking it personally. I said I would do my work, and that it served no one's purpose to take it badly. I also said if Maureen (the woman who will be taking over my position plus her own current one) needed some answers and assistance next week, she could call me at home because it would give me some closure.
I spoke to the secretary of someone I used to work with (he's moved to LA) and he will be giving me a reference, from California. Plus, I know I will get a good reference from my boss, and the company. I could get references from a number of physicians who are high up in the company. I'm sure Donna will give me a reference letter as well.
Anyway, I'm leaving on terrific terms, and I've already been given some leads for jobs.
"Never burn your bridges behind you".
btw - the job market is apparently pretty good right now..... we'll see.
Susan
THAT's my Susan ! (((HUGS))) ♪♫♪♫ There is someone right now who needs you as an employee and waiting to pay you Mega Bucks ! I just KNOW IT!
Betty - I've got these dead Queen Palm Trees that need to be removed.... can you come help with that? ((HUGS)))
Just pull them out of the ground, take them out to the curb..... and DH can plant something in it's place...
After that ... we'll tour New Orleans, Bourbon Street, some antebellum homes and gardens... and have some "non-seafood" Cajun food... Red beans & Rice, Jambalaya, and Popeyes Fried Chicken.
Love to Betty and Love To All...
Mary
I just applied to SAIT Polytechnic. It's a very good college - also a great place to work I hear, AND it's 1/2 the distance from where I work now ^_^
Good luck Susan on your job hunt. With your attitude and such positive references I bet you won't be unemployed long.
Mary I just finished a book by James Lee Burke - I just love his books, They are usually set in and my goodness this man has a way with words. One of my cats 'Streak" is named after a main character in all of Burke's books Dave Robichaux, aka STREAK. I am not much of a sleeper so enjoy reading while I wait for the world to stir.
Coyotes are sure doing their thing tonight, I had best get Stormy in.... he just loves to join them.
Sweet dreams everyone.
Dianne
Morning everyone, just dropping in with a 'hi' and will gab when I get to work..
Susan, didn't see that you called until this morning..drats, got to move the main phone holder that blinks when I've got a call into living room so it's more noticeable; just went to the side table to grab my glasses and blink/blink/blink..will try to call tonight, have a few friends coming over and they don't normally stay too late but you never know..
Off to try and make myself beautiful!
Gosh Mary-you are having a devil of a time naming one little dog;)LOL
How about Caramel, Sunshine, Butter Cup, Daisy....will try to think of more....
GUESS who's birthday it is today....Mary of course..I'm singing as loud as I can Mary, hoping you have nothing but the best of things in your life today! Now Mary, if I was going to New Orleans with you I could do a step dance for you with cajun music..you so make me homesick when you speak of the bayou..wait a minute, I don't come from there..bet it was a past life... I particularly like the name Buttercup!
Debbie glad you are doing better with the itch. Tell me how are you liking your new book reader, is it what you thought it would be, would you ask for one again, lives up to all it's acclaim? might be something for me to put on my christmas list, am sure Santa will shortly be checking in on who is good and who is bad..want to keep my name right on top but need something exciting to ask for..
It's 61 here today, fall is in the air, opened all my windows before leaving for work, nothing like finally having fresh air in the house.
Dianne, is it mating season for cayotes, because they've been singing in my neck of the woods as well. I've been reading 'One Day at a Time' by Danielle Steel, light reading and besides, mom brings me all of the books she buys, got a box ahead of me, must pack some up and donate somewhere.
Susan, thoughts are with you today, although you are being brave about being unemployed I'm sure you are hurting like h(&l on the inside.Glad to hear there are jobs out there and yes, maybe the one in a lifetime job is waiting to be filled by you.
Judy hasn't posted, maybe she didn't make her day of painting with Steve yesterday without mishap...Judy, got all painting done and check in your hand?
Bev, thoughts and prayers are with you and Scotty..behave girl!
OMG talked to Cathy last night, she has been complaining all weekend that her eye was sore and that it was almost all but closed, she went to her doctor yesterday and it's 'shingles' yuk..concerned about her vision..don't know much about shingles but didn't realize it could start in the eye..gave her meds so am hoping this morning she'll feel a bit better as well.
Betty, YES i would definately ask for my Nook all over again. I love it so much, and it is a big help for my bad eyesight. I really like the Nook (from Barnes and Noble) so much because you go to the site, and you can even get FREE ebooks. They have certain ones each month, various catagories. They even have short stories ...under 100 pages....if you want a quick read. I like that I don't have to have it plugged in to upload....just wi-fi service in the area and it uploads. Can purchase while on the Nook or on my computer.
sorry....babbled...to answer your question, yeah....it'll do! LOL
My "itchies" are doing just that. I have the steroid cream on....and its feeling gross...and I hope it kicks in.
OK Mary, I am going on the perfect name search for your girl. I will be back....with a list! lol YES too much time on my hands!
Tomorrow is Pauls surgery, so I am a bit antsy....along with the benedryl and steroids...lord help the family! Lol
How about Sophie or Angel?
Ok, I just came back from the most professional way to do this....browse puppy names on the internet! LOL Yes, too much time on my hands.
We have : Abby, Brandy, Buffy, Candy, Emma, Gracie, Heidi, Jessie, Lacey, Maggie (may), Matilda (Matti or Tilly), Penelope (Penny), Roxy , Rosie, Sadie, Sandy and Sophie...which Joyce also said.
Here is the link.....Lots more onthe bottom of that page.
http://www.dognameswoof.com/girldognames.htm
Stacey, thank heavens you have already named the baby! ROFL
(((((((((((((((((((SUSAN!!!!)))))))))))))))))))) You are a champ girl! That's a pretty good severance package they're giving you. Good luck on the job hunt!
LOL Betty about calling Greg! Did you ever tell him that Bernie did it?
Mary she's probably going to be a small/medium sized dog, looks like a light yellow lab coloring with white background, what's her personality?
LOL Debbie, that's what I was just about to do!
Thought I'd move us over..

Hi
LOL, Debbie and Crissy! Had to laugh, Yep it's a good thing Stacey named the baby, can you imagine all the offered names...
Hmmm, I thought the puppy was named Honey, LOL.
Betty...Thankfully no mishaps on the "job" front. Boohoo it was a one day deal. So got up crack of dawn, should have had breakfast. But lol, I was really hoping that Steve would have stopped for a bite to eat, Not...Took a cup of coffee to go. My job was very easy but quite tedious. I cut in all the corners in the toilet room. I wore a pair of Jeans but after a half hour changed into some cutoffs, whew it was hot in there. Applied 2 coats. OMG the plumber put the toilet in last week, so it was a real pain to paint under and behind, but was able to get that done..kept thinking how it was a good thing toilet was brand new! By time that was done, it was like 11:30. Also painted 13 switch plate covers, 2 coats, 3 on one set, 3 different colors... One of the guys showed up around 9:30 and got to work rolling the Bathroom walls, Asked me to cut in around the Hot Tub. LOL, I asked Steve if I could take a smoke break, He said, Babe you don't need to ask, just go have a smoke! Cool, I said, well it's 12:30, would you happen to be getting hungry? He said yes, but we discovered he forgot our lunch on the counter! So he had to drive a half hour away to get food! He came back with 2 big burritos. I was Starved and shaking from hunger, lol. But While he was gone, I start the trim work, in the hallway. All the trim was routered with different bevels...(that was the tedious part) So, rolled a good amount of paint then brush it all out, also 2 pocket doors and three door ways, both sides. Whew, I was tired at the end of the day!! On way back we stopped to get more paint for the toilet room.
As soon as I got home, hopped in the shower, it was great to just soak for a few. Also, it was our Good friend Ron's birthday, so he stopped in for a short visit. We had dinner, started to watch my favorite show and fell sound a sleep, don't even remember the beginning.
Mary, Yes I was very excited to go to work with DH. We have always worked Very well together. I really miss that, since he does reconstruction on other peoples property, we haven't worked on much together.so it was a lot of fun to work elsewhere. Plus, i am just as jolly as could be, because he is going to give me some money...This job is almost complete, so yippy Payday is coming!! He has to reimburse me for all the stuff i pay for with my allowance, plus for the work I have done throughout the month, and with this job, he is giving me the same rate as he gives the guys!! (my at home work, i do for half, just for pocket money, but that does include, the running time...post office bank, etc...All the running time does add up quickly too and that's time away from my house work and kids, not to mention my playtime!
Mary...Happy Birthday to you!!
This picture is especially for you for your Birthday.
(I know you love Greece.)
Betty, Yep, you definately have to add the moon window. I like the hidden garden room....
Ok, well i got to run to the bank, will be back soon....Still have to upload pics and the then tell you about weekend!
This was taken on Mykonos Island. We had a few cocktails outside by the sea.
Was wonderful, but I kept my eye on this arrangement, it's stunning.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY May it be the best ever......
