Best/Worse/what did I learn today? Visit with friends!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They smell heavenly! The blooms will stay on for about 3 - 5 days, depends on the heat! Then in about 3 - 6 weeks they will bloom again!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LK my Pink Velvets are about to open too.

I think it's hot everywhere.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Too hot if you ask me. It has been in the high 90's, with the humidity at 85 - 95 %! Just too dang hot!

Victoria Harbour, ON

spend more time outside in the winter than I have been doing now because of the humidity..lordy, I've white lace vine growing on the deck, loves humidity, think it grow 2' a day...got trailers all over, can't wait for them to bloom...

Your pink velvet sounds lovely Crissy..please take a photo..

They cannot grow in my region!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty they're annuals in my region unless we get a very mild winter.

Here you go, got a pic from last year.

Well, I used to have a picture from last year...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Here they are, I had two Brug plants, both Pink Velvet. They grew to 9 or 10 feet tall. Here's #1

Crissy are you caught up on the work that piled up while you were on vacation?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Here's #2

Thumbnail by crissyr
Victoria Harbour, ON

wow, it grows that high in one growing season?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh yea Betty, it wasn't the work that I was so mad about, but he is showing some signs of not wanting to do what he has always taken care of, guess I'll just do the stuff myself, even though he's not working and has all day to do inside cleaning.

A close up of one opening

They can, it depends upon the weather. This year's are only about 4 to 5 feet tall because of the heat. We didn't get very hot at all last summer, but had an extremely cold winter.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm going to see if I have a picture of the ones we planted this year...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Nice coloring Crissy!

Bev, what time are you going to find out if you have 'ribbons'...do ribbons come with $$$$ as well? They do here, 3rd. $10 - 2nd - $15 and 1st $25 usually

Victoria Harbour, ON

So yours are from last year Crissy? they are just so gorgeous..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Ok, they blend in with everything else here, except for Dave lol, but they're planted on the outside of the garden fence. The wire is only 5 feet tall, the posts go up to 8 feet tall.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

The two I planted last year didn't come back, so from all of these clippings (picture below) we planted the ones along the veggie garden fence we built this spring.

Crissy you just cut branches and they grow?

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, did you ever plant those seeds you got from Opryland when we were down there?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Brugs are full of water, if you put the cuttings in water they will root and grow, but they don't get the vitamins that they need. You're supposed to feed them once a week anyway but I don't think we've been doing that this year.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes I did Debbie, somewhere in the posts I think I posted a photo..will take another tonight..do you remember what they were? were they hydrangeas? wonder if they will survive my winter..maybe I should take them inside but you know I'm not good with household plants.. they'd have a better chance fighting a blizzard!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Very interesting Crissy...will have to check the zones for brugs..almost think I saw a few plants at the nursery..am going there today to check out pond liners, I'll have a look? too late for this year but perhaps next...

Tubby, you've been in my thoughts today..

George who has painted at my house (and at the farm) has been in the hospital these past weeks..they are sending him to a home for care, doesn't sound like he's doing well..Darlene will get a painting package together for him..he needs something to do Grace said.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty I can totally relate!! I don't have a single house plant, I always kill them!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

They're tropical, supposed to be a perennial but not here, I'm not in a tropical enough region for them. I think they do best in places like Hawaii and Mexico and Bahamas.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Was looking at the indoor plants the other day, other than 1 they are all on death's door..soon time to replace them..even the ivy is dead but that's not my fault, Missy chews on the ivy vines almost at the roots , not sure why..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

That's weird, she's a funny one!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Someone once mentioned that furries who eat greenery are lacking something in their diet?? will have to check that out

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I think our prize money is 5-7-9 I think. I got 2 third place and 2 second place. I was only asking for 1 third place out of 18 so that is good. Just about will break even with money, but it is the fun of it. HUGS BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

You've done well Bev...it's not the money, it's the acknowledgement that your photo's are so spectacular..you'll have to post a photo of which took what prize...look forward to seeing them.

Lyndonville, NY

We have massive storms rolling in....so this will be quick.

Betty, you took several. I don't remember them being hydrangia. I do know some was from a tree, one from a purple flower.....I will have to see if I can find my pictures and see what you pilfered. LOL

VERY nasty here suddenly and very dark. Of course I have to leave for Rochester soon also. Grrrr!

Will be back in a bit.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You be careful driving in a storm Debbie..winds are picking up here as well... pilfering, lol, is that we were doing..not just me, think you got some seeds as well..can't wait to get home and take photo..planted the seeds together so I'd know where they are, perhaps it's time to divide..

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

The only thing is that the ones I thought were the best did not win. OH well so it goes.
This one won second in the make me laugh category.
Red ribbon for Powder.

Wow Bev! Those are good pics and you did alright with them! Breaking even is better than losing.

Betty Tiga makes a meal out of Nutgrass, always has. She's a few bricks shy of a full load anyway I think. LOL!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, just love the kittie..hasn't grown much..too adorable...winter scene is probably the one I like the most, had just decided it was the kitty but then changed my mind...then comes the puppies...dressed and all lol...coloring of the lillies is great! Guess you'll now take a zillion photo's for next years' entry...you said you almost broke even, are you charged an entry fee?

Drats, last week I went to the Garden Gallery and they had pond liner remnants, one piece was $19. for 15' x a little more than 2' wide..want to do a riverbed going into another pond that I will dig..remnants sold out so I ask if I can purchase off the roll about 3 or 4 feet..guy says no, can only sell minimum of 10' - sure don't need that much for this part of the project...just called Midland - Norms Gallery which is a sister nursery owned by Garden Gallery here in Barrie..girl says yes, she can cut me a piece and it would be $60.00 for 3 ' wide x 15' so I'll either pick it up tonight or tomorrow night, won't play until the weekend so won't matter...

With all my gallavanting I've been missing my weekend projects..

Victoria Harbour, ON

She hasn't been ill yet and it's been some time Crissy since Missy had been eating my plants, guess it's not making her ill...nutgrass..lol..don't think we have that kind of grass?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Tiga's never ill, just likes eating grass. It's hilarious, she'll ask to go outside to just eat grass, she comes back wanting in about 10 minutes later. It must taste good, like dessert, but I have no inclination of trying some. Blah!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Yeah Betty. $34.00 for 18 pics. Hope to get $ 24.00 back. Here is another I had there as the manipulated pic but I guess they wanted to be able to tell what it was. This is those 2 daylilies. BEV
