How about having our own county fair?

Love the idea!
Looking forward to the BiG Attractions!!

Well, if there are contests to be won, there must be ribbons! What good is winning at the county fair if you don't have a ribbon to brag about! Blue ribbon all the way baby!

I guess that means I'm in. This will be fun!

Just one more this is Lucky. I know, he doesn't look too smart.

Ah, now Lisa....Lucky is a very handsome dude.

Not kidding, either.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you, I notice you didn't say that about Spencer. I can't say that I blame you. He has a face only a mother could love. I figure, maybe I could get a ribbon in this category just because I don't have much competition! LOL
This is Tigger- I really wish we could post more then 1 picture at a time. Not that I would be able to figure it out but...

Back when I was growing up, we had cows, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, one jenny.

The cows were really my favorites, even tho they were the most work. Dairy farming is hard, continuous, neverending, etc. etc. etc.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

That's why I have a steer. I can't imagine dairy farming. Taking care of these critters twice a day is bad enough.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

What lovely porkers!

Bernie.....be nice

Should I start photographing my garden produce before I eat it? The red raspberries are pretty irresistible. Will jam be judged?

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I didn't know pigs could be so wooly! I love Spencer! Is that a big snaggletooth hanging out of his mouth??

See Lisa - you will get to show your pets off - yeah!! ;o)

Mequon, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh cool! A county fair without the smell! Count me in :)

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

My son is coming for a visit. His favorite pie is rhubarb custard. Will be sure to take a picture of the first slice before it disappears! I taught his youngest son how to make cinnamon buns when he was 9. He thought it was "cool" to cut the dough with thread. Maybe this year I could teach him croissants!

Maybe we should consider putting together another cookbook of Blue Ribbon winners!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

What an adorable little baker! We should have a children's category, like 4H, too!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Kelly I was thinking the same thing. How timely this fair is.
Ky-those are his tusks. They usually remove their eye teeth when they are young. His never got done so they grew into tusks. He is a big baby he loves to be scratched!

Crossville, TN

Thanks to all those that were thinking of me in the Fudge catagory...I have been "on the road again" and didn't see this thread...

I thought of the 4-H thing too...being an old ...really old...4-H leader from the past. Jo

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

It's fun remembering, isn't it?

Crossville, TN

I took my 4-H Square Dancers to the State Fair 2 years and it was FUN!! Jo

Love this idea! Had already decided i was going to make the rounds at local fairs this year. They have always been a big thing in our family.
As too the homecanned goods. They were put in catagorys of vegetables, meats,Pickles fruits, jelly and jams. They were judged on appearance,no mars on fruits, equal sizes of fruits or bits.taste. Flowers were in vases, small containers. again quality of flower,s, and size. on raw veggies, At least 3 on a plate. Good color, good size, good qualty.
Crafts included knitting, crochet, quilts. I don't remember painting art.
Animals included cows,bulls,steers,sheep,milk goats,rabbits,poultry-chickens,ducks,turkeys,geese.
All the animals were looked over from head to toe. Could i suggest side view pictures with a knowledgeable DGer judging. BTW no names were allowed just numbers assigned to people. Thats all i remember. I was a nosey lil brat and asked everyone all kinds of questions. Remember those crazy carnival games, Tossing coins in a dish, fishing for plastic ducks with prize numbers on them, Ring toss, baseball throw.
Remember in Arkansas back then the fair was like a super bowl. LOL

Don’t forget Churros. I don’t remember that one from my PA childhood, but I happily added it to my list of traditional Fair foods while I was stationed in New Mexico. (Jim)

I met a friend and went to the Oswego County Fair yesterday. For lunch we enjoyed a pepper, onions and sausage sandwich on a hoagy loaf. Delicious. The sausage was perfectly spiced with just a hint of heat. The horticultural display was spectacular.

Sounds like it will be a summertime photo contest? I will keep an eye out here, and see what happens?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

It will probably be in late summer/early autumn..mid August to early Sept...this will give us time to get everything in place and for everyone to photograph their entries.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

But, but...how will I get my funnel cake? LOL Maybe I could learn to make them...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

This is a FANTABULOUS idea. WHOO HOO! Can we please have BBQ? BBQ is a must at our western rodeos which are rodeos and fairs combined. Will there be dancing too? I luv dancing ^_^

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Old Tyme Rock'nRoll, Square, Old time. Which kind ?

Big thing at fairs here are demolition derby's.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

ROFL CG. I just got a mental image of Tron but with muscle cars for a virtual demolition derby ^_^ I think square and two steppin for sure (sorry all but Calgary Stampede starts Friday so I'm in rodeo mode)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

We have several classes at our demolition derby. Regular cars, compact cars, and lawnmowers. The lawnmower demolition derby is a great hit...but of course, we also have school bus races at the local race track... those draw huge crowds from several states.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

What fun melody!

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

Wonderful idea! I have wanted to participate in a county fair all of my life and have been trying to get an entry done in time for my first attempt this September. In our county and the neighboring counties, there is a Home Arts category that seems pretty broad. That is where I'll be entered an embroidery piece.
So happy to see one here too!

There was no message showing in Aguane's post. Is it just my machine?

I don't see a message in her post either.

Nope, me neither...she's speechless...
