Money Matters - Part 3
several months back was tempted to move my funds to cash or bonds - glad i kept it put - still not sure why the market is up makes no sense with the unemployment
gold and metals are a good bet victor - at work we are putting price adders in contracts for customer that use gold connectors
Yes, the market is weird. I still have half of my pension money in money market. I did move some the other day, anticipating a post-election bump.
My antique gold vintage watches are probably worth a couple of Nikon lenses by now, but I have them for a long time from when I used to collect them so as a collector I'm not interested in selling them yet, I just like the classy way they look and the fact that they're mechanical.. (lol)
i read about this sunday - they were offered more than double that several years ago.
Better than expected jobs report, but still way too low to put a dent in the unemployment rate. Need at least 250K per month to begin to decrease it.
If they extend the tax cuts across the board, look for a major market rally.
Price of food is going up!

the job report was flat - lost as many as they gained - all spin
No, it's supposed to be a net total - gains minus losses.
Been burning wood in the fire place now for 3 years. I told Jim that it was too much of a pain as I had to baby sit it, basically every 20 minutes. We are putting in a wood stove. It will be easier and not so much of a fire hazard as I would get that fire place blazing. Plus we wont use as much wood.
The stove is working, but today I will let it die down and pull out the ashes. It will be the 1st time the heat has come on in 8 days.
I try to fix stuff that I have because what they make now is plastic junk that doesn't last long. (still have my Fisher 100 watt stereo receiver w/ 8 track from the 1970's and it works just fine!)
... Ok I have Bose speakers and a Yamaha CD deck, but the receiver works! lol!
Still have 8 track tapes??
No, never used 8 track, liked those little cassettes better..
So sad.
funny I just mentioned the sardine co info tonight.
Knew about the Cons, hubby went out when the last ones were made here and bought every color in his size. When I worked for JCP we sold them for full price $19.99 on sale 16.74
Now they are made overseas....

CRAZY!!!!!
Oh and parts for my Firebird will only be available for the next 10yrs
More than 82,000 federal workers make more than $150K! In '05 it was only 7400. 17,000 make more than $180K. Nuts.
Sounds about right, but I doubt they're counting the ones that make that with overtime.
Interesting timing on that report too. On a day where there are violent protests in London over proposed education cuts in a country that simply lived beyond its means for decades, along with most of Europe, we are not learning from them, but repeating their errors. How pathetic is it to be lectured on economic policy by socialist and communist (China) countries! For years now, we have been very critical of China for keeping its currency low in order to support its behemoth export industry. Now we are doing the exact same thing. The announced 600 billion dollars the Fed will create out of thin air is on top of the two trillion plus they have already pumped for the past two years. Beyond crazy.
Confucius say we can go to his school, room, board, tuition, everything on credit, ...we pay later.
Completely predictable reaction to the leaked recommendations of the debt commission. As always, the pols will not have the guts to implement any of them - until we get to the Greece point. I think raising the SS age is fine. Cutting the mortgage deduction is a bit dicey - at least for now while housing is still in the dumps. The problem is no one wants to sacrifice - 'let the other guy do it.'
We have to get the the Greece point, stimulus incentives are going to nail the exit door shut. No one up there wants to look bad, everyone is blowing smoke.
As long as getting re-elected is paramount, no tough decisions are ever made.
We can't leave them in there for too long either, they get too powerful. Gives them more time to figure out how to get the piano out the door..
wc leave the clintons out of this:)
(lol)
That's exactly my point. Term limits would help. And I'm for one six-year term for president.
I'll stick to four, the mere thought of what they can do in 6 sends shivers down my spine! If I want someone out yesterday, six years is definitely going to be too long. (lol!)
me too wc
There would be a recall option, of course. Don't forget, it's not a dictatorship (though it may sometimes seem so). Takes two to tango and Congress is the partner. As we've just seen, they must answer to the people.
Christmas spending this year - more, less or same?
Probably about the same for us.
The same, - minimal, (except for DW). ☺
My wife and I only exchange one gift now.
A nifty gift idea for puzzle lovers that I cam across is custom aerial photo puzzles. Nice idea.
We retired from DOD and with overtime we never saw 150k. The rank and file worker makes a good wage, but he is definitely still mid to lower middle class.
I went and did most of the shopping for next Thursday today. Coupons, sales, Bo gos, and redeemables, aligned with the planets in such a way I walked out with $158 worth of groceries for $81. I'm also up to $1.10 /gal off,on a 30 gal fill-up. I love it when you leave the checkout girl smiling and shaking her head. Ric
