Money Matters - Part 3
Good luck finding a silver lining in this:

Maybe, just maybe after a parent puts his kids through college and supports them for a few years more, (and possibly his kids family as well), there may be enough money left to find a place in the middle of nowhere which nobody wants where he can pay lower taxes and spend as little as possible until they put him in a $1.99 hospital robe with an open back and start probing him with needles until the end comes.
Now that's something to look forward to! (lol!!)
(- yes I know it's not funny, but unfortunately it's all too realistic.)
Sounds like an Inguinal hernia, the most common type, obviously a hernia is never good. It should be taken care of because it can become incarcerated and become a life threatening issue, (emergency surgery). I would get a surgical consult and schedule an O.R. date as soon as possible. - also take it REAL easy on the lifting until then...
Its my husband. It happened at work last week, and he is in denial. He said it felt like a bee stung him, it was hot and hurt. Its still there. Gone to work now and is going to file an injury report. I am assuming that is what he is going to do.
Hes 60. Never been in the hospital or had surgery. I have been with him 25 years and he has never gone to the Doctors. ~~~Hes scared to death~~~~
Yep, that's how it feels like. I can sympathize with him. I got one in Nov of last year and got it taken care of Jan of this year. It's a relatively routine procedure nowadays and it was done at the outpatient surgical dept. You go in the am and you are out in the early afternoon. I opted for conventional surgery instead of the newer laparoscopic method of repair, I was advised that if they found that the hernia was too large while doing the laparoscopic method they would have to switch to the conventional method in the middle of surgery. I never liked switching boats in the middle of the stream so I went with conventional so the guy would have more room to work. (besides, I didn't want him making any mistakes down there! lol!). Recovery took about 11 days and you take it slow for the next 3 mos. Glad I went the way I did, as it turned out the tear was bigger than he expected.
He dont complain and I think this has been going on for 2-3 months and he wont tell me the truth.
He has an option to go to the local hospital - 15 minutes and small or go to Dartmouth Medical Center (which is world known). That hospital is so big and 45 minutes away.
What ever he decides - I will stand by him. I hope he gets his keister home so he can get started.
Sounds like a good plan, good luck, wishing him the best!
Good luck to Jim, Sherrie.
Wonderful! (ouch that must hurt!) - Good, he can take a breather now!
Good news.
Well that IS good news
good news indeed

First lemonade stands now this
- and making rainwater illegal to collect too! Man! These guys are really tightening the screws, they own the rain now too! Pretty soon they'll put up rain meters and charge us for it! (just like they charge for TV now & tax it, - which used to be free!)
This is what they call a "Democracy"??
- I never voted for this! lol!!
Crazy, right?
More dismal job news. New unemployment claims leaped to 1/2 million.
That's quite a bit.
Speaking of quite a bit, 7 houses up for sale within a 6 block area around my house, - must be people loosing jobs, never seen so many up for sale at once.
Been like that for some time here - combo of economy and local problems with skyrocketing property taxes. Signs stay up a long time!
Another very bad sign.

Are you guys coupon-cutters?? I will use coupons, but I don't go searching for them. Always annoyed me that they just don't lower the price!
Use coupons as much as I can. My store stopped taking the ones you can print on your computer though, how annoying is that???
That's ridiculous. I like the ones they give you at checkout. Most of the time they are for stuff you normally get.
I search out and print online coupons for things like regular car maintenance or clothing.
I've saved $20 -$55 on regular car maintenance with coupons they are not allowed to distribute at the site of the franchise. - I've also used them at the outlet stores nearby and have gotten up to 70% off designer labels, (for me and my DW).
- A lot of times it pays to do a search of coupons before you order online too, some online stores have coupon codes found on other websites, but not on their storefront, for things like free shipping, or a discount on the total, etc..
Yes, I've searched for online codes and coupons too.
I do 95% of my shopping online(gifts, toys, clothes, shoes) If I ever get too busy to go food shopping can even do that and have it delivered.
I love this site... mypoints.com, you read e-mail advertisements from companies and place orders(where you would normally shop from anyway) thru this site for points. Once you accumulate X amount of points you can buy gift cards from a large list of companies...home depot, target, jcpenney etc.... I've gotten a lot of free clothes this way
I do just about everything except food shopping. And have almost from day one of the web. Started in '95, with my first purchase of a gardening book on Amazon.
