Did a quick check of the coleus I planted. They think My front landscape must be in Hell. I got the hose and put on a mister sprayer so I could mist the new planted plants. As soon as I started I was literally surrounded by 5 hummingbirds flying through the stream of water. Then they also landed on near by bushes and appeared to be drinking or gathering water. I guess to cool down their nests. I am confused because they are always flying around the waterfall on the Koi Pond. Anyway, it was a delightful experience and I wish I had it on film.
Tomorrow is suppose to be 108 with 20mph winds. Now that is really torture for plants. By end of week we will be back in mid 90s.
The Greenhouse will be ready for planting tomorrow. I was wrong with the size it is 50' wide and 80' long. The had to rehang the shade cover because the expert said it was adequate. I will go over tomorrow afternoon to see how they are doing. It will probably be like a sauna.
Plant propagation part XVI based on my own experience
Hello to all of you. Sorry I have been just lurking for a while, letting my disappointments simmer down before I talk. It hasn't been over 70 here and as low as 38 some nites. Lost most of my babies because I believed the weather report and set them out. Boy, must be nice to be so wrong and still keep your job!!! I still have some babies in the greenhouse, with heat at nite, but most I set out. Maybe they will make it, sure look lost to me. Here is a switch, the petunia's did really well, in fact, some are already blooming. I think I will go with mostly plants that either reseed, or come back each year. I have been down with my back and neck, not able to do much for the last couple of months. You know what I mean, don't you Dave? Work 10 off 50, minutes that is. My tomatoes are just sitting looking at me, if they could cry, they would have big big tears. The same goes for the rest that made it through the cold weather, and talk about rain---Don't think we have ever had such an amount of steady rain, Waterlogged is saying the least, only with gumbo, it dries out pretty fast on topand creates a bog underneath. Several of the old evergreens that were here when we moved in 10 years ago, died this winter. Was one of the worst we have had since 2000. Two of the plum trees cashed it in also. I will have a few flowers tho, thanks to Dave and Jeanette's seeds. Veggies from them also, provided they come back from the cold. I don't think any of the Datura or hibiscus made it. At any rate, I am glad to see you all are still here..
Mom has been going through a rough patch this past 6 or so weeks. Doesn't want to eat, doesn't know anyone but my one sister and brother. It is so sad to see her like that. She just turned 89 this year. Well, I will close this chapter of the book. Hope the best for each and everyone of you, know I am thinking of all of you. Lee
PS Jeanette Wish I had some of those little trees you are cutting out LOL probably wouldn't make it here anyway

Lee, we need to meet somewhere in the middle. Dee in the Irises has had nothing but rain for over two months in Oregon. Everyone in the Northwest is totally frustrated with the rain and the Southwest is totally frustrated with no rain and extreme heat.
I have many seeds i can send you. I have tree seeds, Texas Laurel, Chaste and some I probably do not even know what they are. I have two very tiny, I mean tiny, 5": tall pine trees growing in my holding garden. I could pot them up for you and mother them for you until whenever they would survive our heat in the mail before you got to cold. I hope that makes sense. I have two avocado trees about 8" tall in my compost pile area. I am keeping one but you can have the other. They will not set avocados here but they are cute. I am going to put mine in a pot by the Koi Pond. It lived in the compost and did lose it leaves but when it warmed up, the leaves came back beautiful. It is just going to be a nice pot tree. Just from a throw away seed. I can guarantee I have more seeds here than you can use. Just let me know what you are looking for. I keep collecting seeds but never seem to get them planted. Sharon Winter, also know as Mother Winter among my friends.
I doubt that you would want these trees Lee. I think they are alder. It sounds like we are on the same plane as you are. Nothing but rain. And, yes 38 degrees. I am believeing the weather guy and as long as it doesn't get below the magic 32 my plants are fine.
They have been out in a mini greenhouse on the deck for the last month or more so even got down to 28 some nights. I guess that is what hardened them off for the lower temps now. However, it is so nasty out that I haven't gotten out to plant anything. I have about 2 racks of plants in 3 1/2 inch pots, some blooming, that need potting up in planters for my decks. The only thing I give them is peroxide.
Thank you for the offer Sharon, but as of right now, I am just lost and discouraged. After the disaster last summer and then again this spring, I just need to regroup. Our weather is so unpredictable that I am afraid I would lose anything I tried. Jeanette, I was kidding about the trees, I have some coming up here also that I pull as weeds. They are the ugliest things I have ever seen. The plums send suckers up from the roots, and I am constantly cutting them off at ground, they just won't quit. Maybe it is a good thing two died this winter, at least I won't have to cut suckers ;) I look around the town and see lots of winter kill this year, so I am not the only one. I am at a point that I don't know what will survive and what won't. Yep, peroxide is a wonder fix usually. Like I said before, I think they look at me weird when I buy so much at a time. Keep waiting for the DTF to come visiting :0 Later, Lee
Morning, just planted my Sweet Shrub I got in the mail.. The cold front went thru late afternoon and the winds picked up and the one panel blew out of the greenhouse door. As if it isn't bad enough the wind just wont quit. I started the day again cleaning off the decks and putting the plants back up since the sun is out the wind is calm and the temperature is now in the 70's. I must pack plants to ship all morning so I have to get moving. After reading all your posts I guess we are all having our problems. I think because of my age I seem to not be taking these sudden changes so well. I do hope you all have a good day and that our plants can survive this stupid Spring. God Bless and Smile! Just think, in a few months we can complain about the snow. .JB
OMG JB, you said the S word!!! And it wasn't sun either. Speaking of which, it just peeked it's nose out and shining off the puddles on the deck. Whoops, spoke too soon, there it went.
It sounds like we all need to pick a place and move into a gated community in a top weather area. Some place where we can grow gardens, flower and otherwise, greenhouses, a meeting place for our coffee and tea, and the hard stuff when needed, our own pharmacy, lets see, what am I leaving out?
You guys can come up with a lot more I'll bet.
If California weren't so broke I would say Northern CA would be ideal, but VERY expensive. My sister lives in Stockton and I have only been there once many years ago, but my other sister says the gardens and produce grow whether you do anything to help them or not. But, I think it might be a little too hot once in a while.
Northern Californian here! You got it right with the expense $$$, but I grew up here so I am just used to it. I drool over the amount of real estate you can buy out east. Acres, with a big house and a pond for half of what a small house on a lot goes for here! I am not sure I could handle living anywhere with a real winter though, nearly 40 years here and I am spoiled....what do gardeners do when it is snowing? LoL! The heat in the summer can be a drag but at least it isnt humid too, I think the hottest and most miserable Ive ever been, weather wise, was on a trip to Nebraska one August....shew!
Morning: yes its to wet. JB sorry to say but a fast mover just blew through and dumped a bit of rain.
How about 3k an acre in the outer reaches. a good sized home with a nice yard 120k and up. but its twister teritory, when the sirens blast its time to grab the matress and jump in tyhe ole bathtub. most bathrooms are in the center of the house which is safest for surviving a big one. of course knock on woodwe miss them.
Lucky my kitty says hi.
Nebraska gets similar heat as we do. the garden is over flowing. I did not expect it to go this far and its still growing. pic is space coast small talk..one of my faves
I to have to get orders out. have a great day
Dave
LOL, think this is one of the first times you aren't sending anything to me Dave. Great!! I have so many plants that I can't get planted already I think if I see one more plant come in the door I am going to throw up. LOL, just kidding. But, I do think Bob will leave home.
Gotta get busy. Company coming.
Oh man, I am worn out. It took me all morning to pack and ship orders. I had to make the 1:30 pick up at the post office to insure them leavding NJ today. I was there by 1:25 and the SOB yes and I do not mean cry, had already been there. I rushed like crazy , never took time for lunch, and still he was early and now the packages sit in the post office until 4:30. I am cranky and tired from rushing and grumpy as all get out . USPS#$##@%%#
I wanted to scream at the girl who said I missed the truck, but she is such a sweet person I just could not do it. She knew from the look on my face I was about to explode or walk out. So, I walked out, telling them to turn up the AC so my plants don't die. Jerks. They just love MOndays when I arrive. LOL
Oh JB, I know just how you felt, but how did you hold it in? You have much better control than I do.
Whoops, here comes the sun again. Guess I'll stay in the house and enjoy it. Every time it comes out and I go out and try to throw a plant in a pot it starts raining great huge drops before I even get it in there. There is one cloud up there just floating round raining on everybody. I am not kidding. The rest of the sky is a beautiful blue.
Hey, Plantmum, Neb. isn't so bad... you just have to get used to it. At least we haven't been deluged with rain this spring, just enough to get our gardens growing! Everything in gardening is a tradeoff, I think-- I get Zone Envy sometimes, but on balance am happy where I am. (Well... on balance... )
Jill
plantmum6 ~ Well I live in Northern CA as well...but not in a coastal area but in the Sierra foothills...it snows here every winter and is hotter than your temps, all summer, but not quite as bad as the Sac valley.
What do I do when it snows...heh, heh. well the folks here can tell you...I rant and they are tired of looking at my snow pictures as it even snowed in May this year as well as on another day it hailed. Usually the last snow is March, and then I can get out and plant eveything, though there are still cold days and an occasional rain. But once April is here we usually have warm temps and then it gradually, but not always so gradual...warms up here and is hot and dry all summer. That's when we like to go to the coast for a day or two to cool off. About November or so we will get some rain, though an occasional shower may come during the summer...it never is enough to actually water the plants so I will have to still water almost daily, unless we get some cloudy days.
Hey everyone ~ Let's get some pictures of your propagation....or your garden projects.
Dave ~ You are the only one with your consistent sharing of pictures. Did you ttake those pictures yourself? The daylilies are beautiful!
In the front of the picture, where you see a lilac-pink ground cover...it is called Cat Thyme but actually it is not a thyme but a germander. Teucrium marum...
Hi: I agree we need more pics and discussion on whats going on. I do take all my pics with an allinone camera. I have had it for a couple of years. the bad part is the sillything is pocket sized and I finally caved in the displat so I have to go on faith that the pics look good. cannon powershota-43-u. works on a memory card so its easy to go from camera to computer as my box has a 4 slot card reader. Gor all my boxes done and its nap time
double rudbeckia sold out Yippie.....
Dave
JB, I feel your pain! i worked all morning to get my orders shipped and mailed too, and just missed the cutoff. I guess they will all go out tomorrow am.
I will work on some pictures as soon as I get my propagator going. I do have pictures of my daylily blooms that I am crossing now. this one is my favorite so far, but I have quite a few that haven't bloomed yet..
hope everyone has a great day.
I have a Canon too, and it is nice as I am no photographer, but it is an easy "point and shoot" camera for me. Then I upload them through my printer to the computer. Then I just delete the bad ones...there are many, trust me.
Remember the days of getting all those developed? I am so glad we do not have to limit our picture-taking. It also helps to journal the seasons, especially this year as it has been so unusual with the weather patterns.
Well, rest time is over and I need to go out and do more work as there is a list of unending chores for me in and out of the garden.
Have a great evening everyone.
Evelyn
The peas are growing...I hope they do well since it is getting hot now.
Lovely dl, ibartoo...do you know its name?
yes whats the name???
Well, I finally got an hour this afternoon that it actually did not rain so I got some more pots planted for the deck. I do have a lot of rudbeckias etc. that I wintersowed so now I have to go over to that forum and ask them what to do with them. Might wait until fall to plant them.
Jill, I just want to clarify that I love Nebraska! I have been back to visit 3 times and really enjoyed myself. I went back with my grandparents as that was where they grew up and we often went back for their high school reunions. Small town of about 300 people smack dab in the middle of the state.
Evelyn, I too like to head to the coast, its only an hour away but I don't get there as often as I'd like! Also, I will take some pics of all my little cuttings, as soon as I remember to bring my camera home from work. I pulled out a hydrangea cutting that had withered today and no root at all :( But I did have one success so far.... a mint called "Mojito". That would cheer me a little bit but its a mint! Of course it would root! lol!
Hey Evelyn, that pic just made me realize... I've had germander for about 5 yrs... and I've never seen it flower! Hmmm... too much shade, perhaps? I'm bad about pushing the "hrs of sun" issue, as I live on a fairly shady lot. Still, maybe it's time to move it to a happier spot.
Below are some James Kelway Pyrethrums I grew from seed last year. I seem to have better luck growing plants from seed than doing cuttings, though I am trying to learn how to do cuttings more successfully.
Hello from the "boonies of Penna", finally got some free time to actually sit at the "puter" for more than a few minutes. Came back from vacation to a " hay field " of grass to cut ( of course the riding mower wouldn't start - bad starter - had to order it from sears and that took 3 weeks to get here ) by push mower. I had thirty trees sitting in my refrigerator waiting to be planted ( seedlings ) and my nephew ( bless his heart ) from Philadelphia went to lowes and went crazy at a 90 percent sale and bought me 17 balled six foot trees he thought I would like. Nice thought but I only have three acres and you can only put so many trees on three acres.
We had a nasty storm two weeks ago and one of my cherry trees fell on the power line and instead of breaking the line tore out my electric pole. That was fun, electric company came out, ripped the tree of the line, broke my phone line, threw the tree onto my 10 year old Rhody and when leaving totally ran over my mail box. They still haven't fixed the pole, it is leaning more than the "tower of piza", phone co. took a week to get out and fix the line. Fun city to say the least.
My 10 hour a week ( mad money job) has turned into a 40-50 hour ordeal due to the summer and when I tried to quit my boss told me I couldn't, and talked me out of it. At least now I am down to 20-25 hours though. Some how this is not what I thought retirement was going to be like.
My first attempt at winter sowing was a bust ( so I thought ) , nothing even remotely came up, so I took all the containers and shoved them in the screen house to reuse the soil. No light to speak of- no water at all- sat there for probably four weeks with no idea they were even there. I had a few minutes the other day after potting up all my wave petunias and went in and surprise surprise, there sat 20 red bud trees, 30 spireas, and 8 coral vines all peeking up out of the soil saying " do something with me " and the pony tail and parlor palm seeds I had totally given up on have all sprouted.
I think I have my work cut out for me.
Hopefully, I can catch up with everything that is going on. Weather here hasn't been all that bad, more sun than we are used to here and other than this week ( 60's and 70's ) we have had some nice upper 70 and low 80 temps since we came back. Well, better go before this turns into a mini-novel. Still have some lotus vines to pot up for the grand-daughter.
Catch you later, be good and happy gardening. Well don't be to good, it's not fun.
Sorry, one more thing. Does anyone know anything first hand about " 7 Sons Trees " this was one of the trees my nephew bought. I looked it up and sounds like a nice tree, I was just wondering about taking cuttings from it and is it as sweet smelling as they claim.
Hi Everyone,
I think the daylily is canadian border patrol. I used mini blind tags with pencil to label them and somehow it still faded. I think I will make copper tags this summer and label them as they bloom.
The heat broke yesterday evening and I got a few things potted up. Mostly seedlings I had started in little baggies, but everything is very hungry and I need to feed them something soon.
Today is election day here and almost everything is closed, so maybe I can get some things finished up. My mom has a plant called
Mother in law's tongue and I have never seen one anywhere like it. It has been in the same spot since I was about 12 so it is definitely hardy.I snapped a pic of it the other day and I will post it as soon as I can get into my phone #'s account. I looked up Mother in Law's tongue and it is definitely not a snake plant. LOL
I hope everyone has a great day. I'm off to play in the garden.
Good morning to all:
Not much new here just heat and the occasional rain storm. it is suposed to rain tomorrow but will most likely do it in the evening to overnight.
Have yet to go out and look over everything. Have lots of cuttings to take just need the energy and time. I have a new groundcover I want to try the problem is I have no idea what it is and the poor girl at the garden center had no idea. just the over played speal on the common flowers they sell a ton of.
Tomatoes are 4 1/2 ft tall and the squash has taken over the bed. funny i only planted 4 plants and 2 cukes but its doing quite well. I guess the garden is a learning experience. I toped the onions and did it a bit to agressively on the white onionion as they have yet to put any new green on so I guess its golfball sized onions for dinner.
well its time to venture out and see what I can get done. 1st stop the DL's as I missed them yeaterday and they like to be pollenated when they bloom so I am guessing i missed a few seeds. Its funny i started out the season just writing down what I did and that was a mistake as I miss placed the envelopes I wrote everything down on. So I ordered some string tags to lable time will tell on the usefullness of them.
Linda: I feel your pain as I have a few that the tags are gone on and I will have to look up the names Of what I bought. Luckily its only 3 -4 plants and they are the 4ft scraped ones which I don't like. I like the compact plants, but who knew...when I bought them I was only going on flower color and these are not something I would have bought so I think they were mis labled. they look like the crowned heads I got, which looks like a tall frans hal see the attached. I am sure I paid good money for them as I spent a lot on each plant. Oh well lesson learned. lately I have been buying from a few growers on the daylily auction. I am guessing that once my seedlings bloom I will have a lot to replace them with. I too am planning to buy the metal display tags for my stock plants. where have you found the best buy on them??? I have found the best price at Gardeners 25 for $14.95.
JB: where are you getting your boxes? I found a decent buy from uline for 31 cents. I am using a 10 x 6 x 6. I think (key word think) if you stay under 12" the shipping cost through the mail is a lot less. I guess I am thinking this because of the box to check "is the box over 12" on any deminsion?" of course that did not help with the rudbeckia I shipped out yesterday. I just hope they did not do to badly as I had to bend some of the tops to get them in. good news is they grow fast and they were sold for a buck a piece.
happy gardening to all and stay cool.
Dave
Dave,
I use all USPS Priority Boxes and they are all free. I use the shoebox size mostly. You can put up to a 6" pot with no problems. I sell nothing more than that anyhow. You must remember I sell only starter plants. The older ones I either keep or give away to friends. If they get too big and do not fit in the boxes. The Flat Rate boxes are nice too . The Large one is $14.50 for up to I think 7 lbs. to anywhere. I am too cheap to boxes but uline is where I get my bubble wrap and the paper I use to wrap.
I just cut down all my daffodils. They were good and brown and I did not want it to rain on them Wednesday or I would have to wait until they dried to cut them. The weeds were taking over and I could not stand it any longer.
Had to go to the chiropractor today for an adjustment. I must have twisted my sciatic nerve somehow....no doubt sitting at this darn computer and leaning on the desk as I often do, instead of having good posture.....I could barely walk this morning when I got out of bed. It was bad yesterday but I worked it off, but today it really got to me. I hate pain. LOL. Feeling pretty good but am being good until it heals up. I must go back tomorrow if it still hurts. That gets expensive. My insurance does not cover chiropractors unless your spine is involved. Aint my spine thank God.
I need to go wash some pots I had soaking and clean the bird cages. Later Gaters. JB
JB: thats funny ... I use newspaper and then I use the usps flat rate boxes. The only reason I started buying boxes is because of the special I am doing that is free shipping. the boxes shave $6.00 off my expense so I think its worth it.
I also try to keep it all small because I don't want to deal with the bigger stuff. even though I thought the double rudbeckia's were neat I doubt I will grow them again because they get to huge for shipping. I had to bend some of the taller ones in a 21" long box.
I thought I was going to get some cuttings stuck today but no the voices say wait till tomorrow as I should be able to get up early.
This is one I have been waiting to see. I get to name it. wahooooooo
time drifter x guilded scarlett I am thinking guilded time drifter what do you think??? 6" bloom 6 buds on a 15" scrape and ...wait for it .... its fragrant... now the question is? will it rebloom as the parant does? i have a feeling it will be popular once I get enough to split and grow up.
Dave
Hey, I would call it Scarlet Drifter, and can I buy one??!!! It is gorgeous!
I will have to check on the size of it. I think its only 2 fans.
Dave
Hi, JB! Talk to the chiropractor about billing to medicare, as all manipulations are spine related. medicare has been covering my adjustments for quite a while now, and even has been sending me refund checks for overpayment. I don't know what I would do without my chiropractor...but if you get a bad one, as I have had years ago, they can cause serious damage. I hope you are feeling better.
I am a bit under the weather, but do not know its cause, possibly a viral infection as I have no energy whatsover. I forced myself to to a lot yesterday and now today I don't feel like doing anything...
I didl, however, go outside as the weather is quite nice today...and I did a few things...
withad ~ Good luck with your trees. What kinds did you get? (scientific names?)
JB ~ My daffs are still green, so I am waiting...and yes, the weeds are taking over, not just there, but many places. I have started, and do some every day until eventually they are under control.
GRRRR....
Linda ~ Yes, the copper tags are pricey, but really are the solution, as white sticks out of the ground look like a cemetery and I need to look and see what's dead...
avianut ~ Yes, all germanders like full sun, or as much as you can give them, at least for a half day. Instead of moving, you could try some of Dave's lovely hostas...you probably know all the lovely plants that grow in shade. Isn't it odd that we always want what others have. Al lot of sun plants will tolerate shade but will not always bloom according to how shady it is. I try to grow a lot of shady plants with more sun than they want...aren't we a strange breed??LOL...
jnette ~ It looks as though CA is now out of the PNW as we are now getting sunshine. With 5 full months of moisture, I have a lot of weeding to do as DH does the mowing and weedwacking of the large areas. He can't weedwack the gardens...LOL More work than I can handle right now.....
Evelyn, you probably have the same virus I have. It is called did to much work for three days straight and now the body is just stopped because you are not smart enough to do so yourself.
I hit that wall on Sunday.
Still hot and did not do much gardening today because we are suppose to be in the lower 90s by the weekend. I actually have no weeds except some mint I spotted in a flower bed. That stuff is amazing. It has not reared its head for two years but I triple dug that bed in the spring, made it larger and deeper. Now there is mint everywhere. But Mother Winter is on her way this evening to take care of that. Did get some of the Koi pond cleaned up today. I have a regular pool sand filter on the pond. They are coming this week to replace the sand. The sand is 8 years old so I am sure it needs replaced. I think I will bury the sand in the bottom of compost pile.
I have Black Bamboo to dig this week and I should have a fairly big hole when I get done. That will just be a new place for the sand and a new compost right now. I actually spot compost so I just move it from here to there.
I kept waiting to clean the pond because of the wind Well the wind went way and the next day we were 105 degrees. I am getting to old to clean this Koi pond, but it has dragonfly stalagmites in the bottom. If some one else cleans it they will think they are bugs and throw them away.
I am not going to garden until later in the week because we are suppose to be in the lower 90s by the weekend. But I do have plenty of things to keep me busy in the house. Take care all my friends.
Ok guys, we are growing up!! We actually got up to 74 today. What a nice day! I got a lot of plants, annuals, planted in pots for my decks. I had so many and it has been raining so much I just haven't gotten it done. Normally everything is blooming by now
My daylilies are getting their buds. Some nice ones too Dave. but nothing like yours. You didn't give us a picture of your ground cover Dave. Want to see it. One of my Thymes is starting to bloom nicely so I will see about a picture. So much to do and so little energy. Thought I was going to say 'time' didn't you? LOL, gotcha.
Good mornin: yes I am up at an unusually early hour but its just a hit the net and back to bed as we have massive thunderstorm rolling in. fast mover so I hope to be outside after a bit more rest.
I will try to get the pic of the ground cover today. rains been great for the plants but horrid on me. Oh well what can I do about it.
yesterday afternoon my folks lost one of their dear scotties to liver failure. I think she was about 6 years old. she had bad alergies and had to get steriod shots a lot. Its a bad loss as she was the 1st family dog in a lot of years and I was quite fond of her as I am of the rest. I dog sit when they go out of town. Moms really sad and torn up but there are the other 3 to help but it takes time to get over the loss. the pic this am is of Katie.
well its back to bed
take care and "I'll be bach"
Dave
May Sweet Katie rest in peace. God Bless her. Every morning Barney does not wake me I look to see if he is breathing. He is 14 and failing and I dread the day he does not wake up. Hugs to you and your family.
Evelyn, mine is not covered by Medicare anymore. It was years ago, but they have changed alot of the chiropractic things they cover and mine was one. Mine is nerve related and in the 2010 Medicare handbook it specifies the only thing that is covered.
I aint one of them. My dear chiro only charges me $25 a visit, since he knows it can be a drain on the pocketbook. My other is virtigo and Medicare does not pay that either. I am lucky to have such few aches and pains at my age so I am not complaining. I will shut up and pay up. LOL.
It is almost 9:30 and I have birds to water and feed and then off to the chiropractor again.
It is still not completely gone, so I will get another treatment today. Hopefully that will do it. I just wish I knew what I did to cause this I can guarantee I would try not to repeat that task. LOL
I have a half a row of Summer Daffodils and they came up early due to that warm spell we had in December or January, can't remember. Then they got real cold and froze. Now they are up and green and no sign of buds. I guess they are just totally confused. They are to bloom in August. This is their second year with me, so I know it is not the fact the bulbs are new plants.
The rains are coming and there was a beautiful sunrise this morning. Now the clouds are moving in. It is to rain all day and be nice again tomorrow, but warmer. Warmer is o.k. if it does not go above 85. LOL. I am one picky old woman.
I am still trying to finish my inventory in the greenhouse and maybe today will be the day. I had so many plants to pitch, pots to clean and sterolize, plants to replant, all that before I could actually see what was there. You are lucky to have most of your stock outside. I am so limited with tropicals and some perennials.
I planted some Starflower seeds and they came up. The tops got brown in the intense heat of the greenhouse. I transplanted them and I am hoping in the larger pots they will come around. If they do, I am afraid it will be too late to plant them and they are annuals. What do I do othen? No way can I keep them over the winter in the greenhouse. An annual is an annual, right?
Be back soon. JB
I had to look up 'starflower'- I'd never heard of it. Very pretty. I think you should just keep them, harvest the seed, and sell the seed on the Marketplace. It is an unusual flower, (at least in NE) and would probably sell quickly :-)
Hi Everyone,
Dave, your daylilies are breath taking. I haven't bought anything on the lily auction but I have been tempted a few times. None of my "seedlings" that I crossed have bloomed yet. I am still potting them up though so maybe I will have a chance to get blooms.
Evelyn, I like your thoughts about the white sticks looking like a cemetery. I hadn't thought of that before.
We are about to inherit 2 new toys from my brother in law. He is bringing us his mazda miata, (which i had before) and also a boat. I am really excited, but in order to make room for them, I have to move 1 of my beds with the prettiest hibiscus and daylily plants in it. I hate having to move everything but there is no other way. I guess it will give me a reason to go ahead and re-design the front yard. I have been threatening to do that for some time now.
I had to cut my bottlebrush in 1/2 yesterday. When we got snow this past winter, it was so heavy it bent the bottlebrush over to the point that it looked as if it were trying to kiss the ground. I hated having to cut it, but I am going to try to some of the pieces.
I would like to work outside today, but I am taking Mom shopping instead. Maybe tomorrow I will get back out early. I've been staying up way too late and sleeping till my morning is almost gone. That's gotta stop.
Hope everyone has an awesome day.
BTW: what size are starter plants?
Good morning you all. LOL, you have probably gotten up again Dave to do the second round after the storm, hope you survived it. Just snoozin' away.
So sorry about your mom's little dog Dave. Really tough losing one. Just like one of the family.
JB, you are lucky that chiropractor can help you so yes, just pay up and shut up. Lotsa people they can't help. Just teasin' you you know. Had to get your blood pressure movin' this morning. LOL See if it is still pumpin'.
What is the starflower? I looked at it on plantfiles and there were several different ones. All pretty.
I'll come help you with your greenhouse cleaning JB. I'm pretty good at that but don't wash pots. LOL, I throw them all in a huge tub and let the rainwater clean them.
Well, now that I woke everyone up and it's raining here again today after our one nice day of the year, it is my turn to go into a stupor. ttyl, LOL Guess I'll work with my daughter on the computers today.
Oh Linda, you got in there before I posted this. Think I would sell the Miata and boat before I disrupted my whole yard. Unless of course it needed it. That's right, you said you had been threatening to do that didn't you? Then time to bite the bullet and do it.
It is really nice that both you and your mom feel good enough to go shopping. Do that. It is really important. You can do the plants anytime.
Have a fun day you all. Jeanette
,
Mornin...it is still mornin is it not?
I call my plugs/liners starter plants. Its raining again so i am down for the day... BUmmer the mind has all these things to do and the body say now way jose.
I buy from Kendallily and a few others but the folks on th site are like us. love their plants and hate to see anything go wrong. most will send an extra fan of something with a decent order which isn't hard to do with all the fantastic flowers available and some toping $200.00 for 2 fans. I try to say in the 20 to $30 range and some cheaper. They are worthy of drooling over. I really need to pot up my seedlings as they are in 3" cells or 4" comunity pots and it seems harsh to make them stay there.
well not much else going on stay dry and cool everyone. pic is betty woods. funny thing is I have had a single same everything else from a betty woods. HMMMM maybe a genetic reversal or improvement. It does warrent watching closer. single pic next
Dave
