Garden Projects 2

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the bonsai spot Bill... you are good!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha ha! Doubt it - except that after the surgery it's possible. I can still run pretty fast, when the knee is okay. Did the 40 in 4.42 when I was 18.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

21.7 220 - 9.8 100 and 6.5 60 meters after winning a 440 in 50.2 and literally walking to the starting line - you can tell me what my soles look like:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha! Yeah, right.

Thomaston, CT

Still not going to outrun the snake, guys! Son was showing me a wild foam flower at the edge of his lawn last week, & just as he reached for the leaves, a ribbon snake slithered out....he yelped, I laughed....usually I'm the one that gets spooked.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No need to outrun the snake - just outrun Bill, which I am very confident I can easily do. ^_^

Thomaston, CT

This we ALL have to see!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

what does the winner (me) get? i am thinking a gift certificate to Davidsans would be appropriate.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And a case of Sam.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I love track and field. Always watch the Millrose games on TV. I want to go in person someday. I am slow, very slow, but I am great with a stop watch from my years of being a starter for yacht races. We use to use a gun to start them, but after one committee member (Not the guy in the Picture) put a hole in the committee boat's Bimini top, we switched to a horn start. Fun especially when we do the some big races, like starting the 12 meter boats, then it is amazing as they sail by so close on the start that you could shake the captain's hand. So I am game to have a race starting Rocky Wha vs Gimpy Victor in the first annual Garden State Snake Race held anywhere.

Def want to see this race.

Ya think he would have pointed that gun up in the air?

South Hamilton, MA

DD (not jumper 2) is a cross country runner from high school. Still does road races & runs for the fun of it. She & her friends have a Halloween run through the neighborhood to see the decorations, then cider & doughnuts afterwards.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'll enter this race if its for short sprints!
A.) can run pretty fast....did the 60 in 6 flat thank you very much!
B) hate snakes.....my feet spurt wings when I see one. ^_^

Thomaston, CT

LOL...Running for the Roses the race should be called....should be on a neutral site...CT is between their two states, we can have it here...I'll let the airedale loose, that would add wings to anyone's feet!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny. I assume Brian cannot catch you, Celeste!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No Victor, he can't...but I let him ;)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

^_^

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

First Victor would have to actually show up at an RU. So my bet is on Bill :)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh, good one Songs!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha ha! He can't win by default.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

my w/c goes 6 mph - can I race too?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Home at last, my newest project will be finding my garden. LOL The weeds are so tall I can't see my cabbages. I think I'll spend a good part of tomorrow on my butt weeding. After a 16 & 3/4 hour drive home from Florida I need some time to veg out. I still swear I'd like to have a tape of the Star Wars battle music for driving 95 through Virginia.AndI thought Jersey's drivers were crazy. LOL Ric

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Welcome home!
I def think those VA drivers are crazier than the ones here, the ones around Atlanta top them all. If never been to CA so can't comment on them.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

ok I"m trying ro catch up and DG drops me to the end of the thread. Scrolling back to catch up.............

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Ok I don't know how to catch up if it drops me to the bottom. I've missed tons. Sorry:( I am going back though)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

glad you guys are home Ric... my weeds are crazy as well... don't feel bad

Thomaston, CT

Haven't been in the garden weeding in weeks, either!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ok the area that I need to do next is 25' wide and 40' long.... I took a pic but it is soooo embarrassing, what a mess!!!! Just imagine a partially weed filled, the rest grass with a big empty dirt circle where the tree came down blank slate.
I definitely need to level it and the rest is open to ideas.
This area is to the left of the house
Here's an elementary drawing...LOL in paint(don't have photo shop)

I'm thinking, gazebo with brick path around it

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cute drawing. ^_^ Does that mean it's in the shade? Gazebos are $$.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Welcome home Ric. If you think Va. drivers are bad you should not come to Massachusetts. We usually win the mad drivers award. Glad you got back safe and sound. Rest up the weeds will still be there that is for sure. We found Cal. drivers very polite. Always stopped to let us cross those wide avenues and sat there with a smile too. Amazing.

Jen that sounds so lovely. Always wanted a gazebo. Would it go in the center of the open space? I might make a couple of triangle shaped corner beds on the two corners on the left. Of course the way things go it might end up as one long bed with a concave outer edge. Maybe a birdbath or statue as a focal point in the center of the bed where it would be the narrowest. I am sure whatever you decide is going to be wonderful and cannot wait for the pics. So much better than parking. Good luck with this project.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Welcome home, Ric. Glad your dad is better.

Sorry, but NY drivers are the worst. I suggest a quiet drive through Manhattan.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I agree about NYC. Taxi drivers are responsible mostly, same in Boston. According to this article the whole Northeast is the pits. They rank by state at the bottom. We all are in the bottom five on almost every list. They use accidents and road rule knowledge, I use how people drive and let's face it the northeast drivers are mostly insane by any calculation. ^_^ http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/insurance/insureyourcar/p151501.asp

Thomaston, CT

Sadly, I agree! I stay away from I-84, worst road in S. NE. Jen, how exciting! A whole new area...a gazebo would be nice, or a garden bench & arbor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

95 would get my vote.

Thomaston, CT

Yep, another disaster.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Jen, at first I thought that was a map of Florida with the bad roads pointed out! rotflmao! My theory is that in CA they have dedicated left hand turn lanes and so on; it is INFINITELY easier to drive on streets. They were designed for cars! The traffic in LA is awful, though.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I have not been able to get online in awhile. Been having problems with my internet. I was ready to call Comcast this morning, but was able to get on. Still having trouble with it, though, but able to get on.

Patti, yes, I continue to sell my plants throughout the summer, and I have 2 daylily sales in July, one on the 10th and the other on the 17th (that last one is the day before my RU). My friends who did the sale with me did not give me goodies that day, but I traded with one of them earlier this spring, and the other friend, Karen, she's always giving me stuff, and I give stuff to her. So I wasn't expecting anything. Your wall and stairway project is coming along nicely. Your veggie bed is looking great. You sound like you've been very busy. I'm surprised you wear jewelry while gardening. I never do for that reason, plus it can get in the way. I hope you find the bracelet. Are you feeling any better? Your redone rock path looks great.

Bill, love your new bed, wall and bonsai table. Very nice!

Nice, Jen, another spot for a new bed. How awesome that that? A gazebo would be great. I would love to have one myself, but can't afford it.

Lucy, I'll send my Patches to your place for the chipmunks. She's killed 2 this month already. They are hard to get, too. She's obsessed with getting them.

Bill, I have a large garter snake here. Must be at least 2' long. I don't bother him/her. It doesn't seem too frightened of me, either.

I'm going to start a new thread for this. It's getting really long.

Karen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It gets shade only all the way to the left, already planted that, that area not included in my measurements, the front half is shady in the morning, then the rest of the area gets fried all afternoon.

I was thinking the lower half some kind of border shrub and creating a park like atmoshere to welcome you into the yard.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

New thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1107257/ . Sorry, forgot to post a link before. Victor reminded me.
