Garden Projects 2

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the poles are pvc that we spray painted green - and there is green wire to tie the t-plants to and keep the poles up and not bending - i also stake each pole on either side and tie it down with the wire.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

wha, could you shoot a close up of you pvc setup for me so I can show DH. I am trying some in black grow sacks with bamboo stakes, but they are old ones that will not make it past this summer, so I need a new plan if the sacks work. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

ok

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think purple would have been nice.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Bill. Did you use that spray for plastics? Looks like it works very well. DH wants to use pvc for his grapevine hoop thingies and I would much prefer a dark color than that lovely bright white they come in.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

we choose hunter green - it does get scratched up a little just a normal spray not necessarily for plastic.

patti i dmail'd you the photo.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Bill.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

I'm sorry about your dad, Ric and hope that he continues to mend well. It's tough when our parents need help and are so far away. Mine are in SC and I dread that day coming.

That Krylon plastic spray is pretty good stuff! Painting the PVC is a great idea. I have a use for that, too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'd get drips if I did it.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Ric, thoughts and prayers going out to you father. Hope he remains on the mend. Nice shot of the cranes.

I have hose guided made from metal pipes that were originally used for a canopy frame. I would like to spray pain them black, as well as the tennis balls on top, so they will blend in with the background more. They are white and really stand out in photos.

Getting the bed ready to plant the JM. I got a blister and my back is killing me. Man getting all the roots out of there was tough!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks everyone for your wishes. Dad's a tough old bird but 2 weeks ill and 2 surgeries left him a little worse for wear. He was in pretty good shape before all this, (still working HD garden and patio at 81), so I think he'll get some of his strength back quickly. Speaking of tough old birds, we ran across this while out shopping today and I found it on You Tube. Ric

Cool, Ric! I saw a lot of those while in FL this past Feb.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Glad your dad is on the mend. I feel your pain of distance, I'm in OH and parents are in MA.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

finished the wall at the end of the driveway - photo's to follow

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You missed your calling, Bill. Should have been a geologist.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you mean waller - my in-laws (veggie garden weeders) came - the over today and thought it wouls take me another day and 1/2 - i "hoped" they were right rocks were not falling into place - after lunch they did - happy with how it looks and it passed the bosses (wife) approval too.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I don't see pictures....??

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

I made another little bed out of my leftover hypertufa blocks. I think I'm pretty much out of room to make any more beds now :( Still working on finishing the blocks for the side of the house where my daylilies are. That should really clean that edge up and hopefully stop my dogs from peeing on them.

That looks really great, Noreaster. It's amazing what a little creativity will do.

Bill, congrats on getting the new wall done. Looking forward to pics.

another - i will extend the bed on the left to the end of the wall - the rocks are for a large flat stone that i will set our bonsai on.

last one - i may re-do the end of the left side of the wall as it gets a little skinny on top - would prefer that the width be more consistent.

I see that you made good use of the pillars.

Thomaston, CT

Very nice, Bill...and the photo of the garden made me envious as mine is messy. Karen, loved the new walk! Hope the construction is going well, Patti. And Ric, hope your Dad is healing quickly. The cranes & wood stork photos were great!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, hate skinny walls....ha, it looks beyond terrific to me. Love the standing stones. We are going to try to stop by next week. I will dmail you when I think we may be in your neighborhood.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

That looks great- I really like the pillars.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anybody have any experience with outdoor sinks? Or is that more of a plumbing project than a gardening one? My hose connection is totally kaput and they closed it off while I decide what I want to do.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I really like the pillars

I thought outdoor sinks can just get attached to where the hose connection is.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Looks great Bill!

You make your own beer?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yeah, but what kind of outdoor sink or do I just want an extra spigot up where I can reach it? Nobody seems to have them in stock at the moment (my preliminary not very thorough research shows). I would want the temporary or I guess better to call it detachable kind but they all seem so flimsy.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Very nice Bill.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Excellent, Bill! I love it! Hey, don't you have a rock already set up for your bonsai? Is this another one? I have no bonsai, but would love to someday. I was once a member of a bonsai club way back when I was in my 20's and lived in Reno, NV. I never kept up with watering them, though. They need pretty much daily watering in the dry climate there.

Thanks, Marilyn.

Sorry, Carrie, I know nothing of outdoor sinks. I have one that I'm going to make into a planter, next to my outdoor planter toilet. I just need a bathtub for a water garden, and I'll be good to go!

Karen

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Great Job Bill, I really like the post. Do you have them set in the ground as well?

Carrie, It's easy to put in a sink for outdoor use. You can use a used kitchen sink and counter top set on a sturdy bench. Put a dual outlet on your bib (facuet) and run a short hose (like a washing machine has) to supply water. You can hook up a drain or just use a 5 gal bucket to catch and reuse the waste water. It can be as plain or fancy as you like. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/intro/0,,20227212,00.html

My current project is trying to tame this jungle! LOL Ric

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Ric, I feel for you on trying to tame that jungle. I have many here needing taming myself.

Karen

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Met this young Great egret at one of the many Co. parks. This area is great for wading and shore birds, at least till the oil slick gets here.
Dad's doing well, has a good appetite, and is getting stronger ever day. What can I say "I'm a good cook,"LOL Ric
