And it's a few minutes after 10 pm now, correct? So that would put this about 4-5 hours ago.
new thread for system issues
For quite some time, maybe at least a month?, I have not had a banner nor anything but little boxes with red x's at the top of my screen. Also the same little boxes where Terry has her name on the left.
Can you help? I already have logged off of DG & started fresh.

It was 9:21 pm when I posted, so it would be 3-4 hours before.

Can you see other images on the site? It sounds like you've got something in your browser that is blocking images. (We can only provide limited support for browser and firewall settings - your best bet for those issues is the Computer Talk forum.
I can see pictures on here. I do not have this problem with any other site.

Are you running a firewall?
Are you running any speed optimizing software?
Do you have Adobe Flash installed on your computer?
If you see a red "x" can you right-click with your mouse in that area and download the pictures?
For some reason, I can't capture the page...but, there is another odd thing in the Ohio forum. Everything else seems fine but not what I listed below.
goshsmom---her name is black and not a clickable link.

If so, it's looking normal-size to me and her name is clickable. Can you check it again?
Vewy, vewy interwesting....Yep, it's normal now!
Terry, if you want to see an instance of missing photos, there's one in the PF pending queue right now. This isn't the first time it's happened there either.
Joan, I have seen a few of those before now. My guess is they timed out along the way (they shouldn't be posting as empty, but it's a known problem - I'll nudge 'em again today.)
Just got logged out on two open DG windows at 6:45 p.m. Ratchere... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100797/
and here... http://davesgarden.com/
Now I forgot what one of those was going to... oh well. It probably warn't impotent.
My time zone is set correctly, and I am now seeing posts with a time stamp 5 hours earlier than it should be.
Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted.
Is back?? Took a few minutes to get back in.
Happened to me also. I thought maybe just too much traffic on site. But it came back. So I guess it was just a blip.
I just was searching for an old thread and saw all these odd script additions in a lot of the posts.
Hueyspan> and

On this post

it converts to "And to compare Dr. Hueyspan>."
then I clicked on the post and it corrected itself though not my typo of And. LOL

Edited to add that is so odd, I can't even copy the script to here for it changes it. I guess it is reading it and changing it.

Kell, are you using AOL's browser when you see this? If you switch to another browser do you see it still?
I'm sure many others have reported this problem, but the time zone issue is still unresolved. I am in the US Eastern time zone (observes US rules for DST) and DG's timestamp is still -1 hr from the actual local time. I tried changing my time zone between "GMT -5" and "UTC -5" (which should be synonymous) and it doesn't fix the problem. Seems like the DG website running on the IB servers doesn't recognize DST. Rather than "fix" the problem by kludging my time zone I'll just wait for a fix from your end. But really... this is just a basic programming issue that should have been worked out long ago. (BTW, in case you care... Win7 Pro/x64/FF 3.6.3)
Have you checked your profile? If you're on UTC-5 and you are in the Eastern Time Zone, observing daylight saving time, you should be set to UTC-4...You can also choose GMT-4 or EDT from the list.
But of course Terry! AOL and I are inseparable it seems. LOL. I just went back to the thread via AOL and now the real words are there and the weirdness is all gone but "HUEY" is in bright red all the way down the page whenever it is mentioned. LOL. Is it just me?
Thanks for your time!

All the Huey words are bright red for me too, and I'm using Firefox. This is the first time I've seen something like that.
OMG! I didn't notice that before (didn't scan down that far), but the word 'huey' is in red (and bold) on my screen, too!
I checked the source code, and it has color set to 0xFF0000 right before 'huey' and font weight set to bold. Interesting.
Edited to add that 0xFF0000 is bright red. I meant to say that earlier. I'm also on FF, so it's not an AOL problem.

Kell ~ were you searching for "Huey"? I've noticed the DG search function will highlight in red the specific words I have searched for when I pull up those threads. I noticed that thread was from 2007... so guessing it was a search?

LOL! First I was going to say THANK GOD for Joan.......... then Dream Of Spring too! I was beginning to think I was seeing things!
Orignally Dr. Huey looked like this (minus the < in the beginning and > at the end so it won't convert to the words again)
span style="color:#FF0000;font-weight:bold;">Hueyspan
and also this was all the way down the page too ( again minus the < >)
br />
Shoot, the end of my post was cut off. LOL The Twilight Zone song is going thru my head now.
I had written THANK YOU Podster! You are so right! I might have guessed that myself had I had a thought in my pretty head. LOL
I had thanked the tech guys in another thread earlier for their great search feature, maybe I should go back and gush. How great we no longer have to read down the whole thread looking for that which we we are searching!
But I didn't search for it, and it's showing up red for me too?
I searched the Iris forum for Immortality. It's showing up in red for me. Is it for you, who didn't search for it? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100364/?hl=Immortality
How about in this link to the same thread? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100364/ I just went to the forum and found the thread without searching for it. I think the links we are posting after we search somehow have the search embedded in the link.

Joan, it's showing red for me and I didn't search for it - weird...
Edited to say your second link did not show me any red words... and on that note I think it's time to call it a night - lol...

It showed in red for me in the first thread. Actually that was pretty
helpful. When I went back via the 2nd link there was no red.
Joan (and kell) - the links you provided were to the search results. So even though we didn't search for it, your results display the searched word in red when anyone views that link. (If you look in the browser window after you click on it, you'll see that it contains your searched word in the URL.)
Actually, that's not right. The DG servers should recognize local DST observance and there should be no need for the client to ever change their time zone once it's been set. I have quite a bit of experience programming and administering web apps and from my perspective it seems as if IB is taking the easy way out. Maybe Dave hard-coded something that assumed the servers would always be in Texas?
I'll be honest - I'm not sure how the time stamps worked before we migrated to new servers. I don't know if my time stamp stayed "UTC-6" year-round and the system adjusted it forward and back at the appropriate time, or if it actually went back and forth between DST and standard time when we spring ahead/fell back. (It seems like I looked at my profile a few times, but I just don't recall how it worked.)
We have encountered problems trying to get the timestamps to work right post-migration, and your guess about the hard-coding may be correct. (Let's just say that fixing some time stamp issues have resulted in some very unintended surprises elsewhere in the system.)
After the last adjustment, I made this post to let everyone know they need to re-set their time. Now, whether we can get the system to automatically adjust your settings in the fall..well, I hope so ;o)
But in the meantime, if you're on DST, you will need to adjust your account profile to the appropriate time setting.
Cool ~ Joan. I just went to your Immortality link and all the text has disappeared into that great IB cavern. Sure hope that text monster isn't following me around. He'll be getting GI/GO today.
edited to add.. don't know how to do a "scream" shot but this link should show it... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100364/?hl=Immortality

When I look into the Iris forum and find the thread, it looks like this: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100364/
When using your link that you "searched" for, it looks like a search for the word 'immortality'.
I have been having a minor issue when removing watched threads. I didn't report it earlier, hoping it was just a glitch that would work itself out.
Here's what happens:
- I click on "My Info"
- I click on "View the threads you are watching"
- I select a thread to remove from the watch list
- I click on "Remove those selected threads from your list"
- I am taken to an information screen which tells me the threads have been removed from my watch list
- I click on "Back to Your Thread Watcher"
- I am incorrectly taken to the article "Seed Packets, What does it all mean?" instead of to my thread watcher list.
It is always the same article that I am taken to when I should be directed back to my thread watch list.
Minor issue, but it is a bit annoying!
Thanks!
Jeannie
That's a back-navigation issue. Our back navigations have always had a few oddities, but it's become a more widespread problem, and we've started a trouble ticket with the tech guys to look into it.
Ok thanks! No big deal, just thought I'd let you know :)
Hi,
I don't know that you'd call this a "System Issue", rather, more of a "System Question" & I don't know the best place to post it.
So many of the articles I come across in DG (or that come in the newsletters) are too good to lose. Other than e-mailing them to myself or printing them, is there a way to save them in DG like you would save a favorite forum or thread? It would seem to be a much quicker way to access them.
Am I just missing something or is that not a feature that's available?
Thanks in advance!
Edited to say: "I apologize for sticking this in System Issues."
