I had the same problem. Photos were appearing very gradually. I was mainly in the Bird Watching forum.
new thread for system issues
I'm using Firefox, and I'm not seeing any of the images posted to threads or in PlantFiles, BugFiles, etc. All I see is the message "Click the image for an enlarged view." I have made no changes to my browser and it is working fine on other sites. I have also rebooted my computer. When I switch to IE, I can see all the images.
I just went to this thread of mine and when the page came up the bottom half was black for a few seconds. It happened too quickly to get a screen shot.

I know what I'm going to write here won't make me popular and I'll probably get slammed for it...whatever...I know I'm not the only one thinking this. What the heck is going on around here?? I was gone from DG for about a yr or so, and I'm not on the site daily like I used to be a few yrs ago...but this place used to run like a well oiled machine. It was rare that there was a glitch...and if there was a glitch we were all certain that the site's namesake was up all night working on it to fix it. We appreciated him and he appreciated us. It was never a "we pay you to work for us" atmosphere. Sorry, but I miss the good ole days.
Anybody remember this guy and his promises??? What a bunch of bull that turned out to be in the end...
Is DG going to change in any significant way?
Absolutely not. Refer back to the 11th commandment mentioned above. We now have a world-class team of web designers (see the upcoming launch of Gardens.com for evidence of that) who may help us with tiny improvements to the look of DG, but other than that I don't want to change a thing, other than to keep improving and adding to it as we have always done. .
I have created a thread in the Dave's Garden forum concerning this announcement, and I encourage any questions or comments to be posted there! Additionally, any member who wants to talk to me personally is invited to telephone me. If I don't answer, please be patient, as I would probably be on the line with someone else. Don't leave a voicemail - just try again in half an hour.

Whatever happened to that guy anyway?
I think you can take down the "For Gardeners...By Gardeners" slogan now
Once again I'm seeing nothing but PlantFiles photo entries which are timed to a date in the future. When will it all end?
The time stamp issue is complicated and it ties into a lot of areas of the site.
We thought we could have an easy, straight-forward fix on it, but when we tried, it caused a ripple effect of problems in other areas of the site.
It will get resolved (and it is very high on the list of things to fix), but it will require more work than the tech team had originally hoped it would and they want to make sure they've completely tested its effect throughout the site before they implement it.
Has anyone's hair turned gray yet? Or did it all fall out? LOL
Has anyone been sent to Bellevue? HEHEHEHE

Right now I think I'm the one mostly releasing the pending PlantFile images, and I don't like them clogging up the new thread feed for 8 hours either. I *think* I have a way to get around that until the tech team can fix this.
Terry, I think if I release the photos directly to the PF entry and bypass the photo thread, this doesn't happen. Okay with you?

I had wondered the same thing - it's certainly worth a shot ;o)
That appears to be working. Now we just have to wait for time to catch up with the last three on the list.
This temporary fix will mean that the newly released PlantFile photos won't clog up the latest threads feed, but until the tech team can get the problem fixed, it also means that the newly released photos won't show up on the PlantFile photo thread in real time. They will, however, go directly to the PlantFile entry once they are released.
Am I the only one not seeing images at all? I have no problem on other sites, just DG.
pat, we're not hearing that report from anywhere else. Have you tried rebooting?
I realize that we members may not care what nonmembers see, but that same blurry image with the same article is still stuck on the front page of DavesGarden......
I can see the current articles once I log in. Can't they at least switch out that old article with something more appealing until they figure out what is wrong?
Pedrickscorner, I've reported that issue separately ;o)
I am also not seeing images in the forums. I was seeing only 1 or 2 per forum and booted again as suggested above. Now I am seeing a few more, but many blank spaces. I don't know if that is important at all, but it is certainly a change from the past when there was an image beside most postings.
If you're seeing strange blanks, can you get a screenshot of what you're seeing and post it here?
Maybe there is no problem at all - just my ignorance. I have looked through quite a few forums and I suppose it is may be just that a picture is not posted for every single one. Some people put up an image and others did not. I apologize for misreading it. If it happens that I cannot see any images at all, even after rebooting, I'll let you know. My fault - sorry for taking your time.
Here's a new one for you. I shut down my computer last night and didn't log on again until this afternoon. I didn't get to Dave's Garden until about half an hour ago. One of the threads I've been watching (http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1100010/#new) has always been very active. I wondered what happened to everyone today since it didnt' come up as having any new activity. I went to the thread and, voila!, there were lots of new posts. I checked to see if I'd accidentally unwatched the thread and I hadn't - it was still set as being watched, but did not come up on my home page as having any new activity. Weird, huh?
Yes, I have rebooted, and when I switch to IE, I can see all the images that I can not see using FIrefox, which is my browser of choice.
patrob, that is interesting - I also run Firefox, (it's also my preferred browser) and I'm not seeing any problems - if you spot an example, can you get a screenprint of it?
I notice we now have Commercial ADs showing up in the newsletter. Are we slowing working our way into an AD filled newsletter, at least put them on the bottom so we don't have to see them first. I opted out of the ads in the forums but there does not appear to be anyway of opting out for the newsletter. ODD, we can't seem to fix the system problems but we don't have any trouble inserting Advertisements wherever it suits the powers to be.

The ad you saw today is in its third and final week. Since we began the free weekly newsletter, we've always had this spot reserved for an advertiser to sponsor the newsletter - but we don't always have an ad to fill the spot.
If you would like to stop receiving the newsletter, there's a place on your preferences to do that, or let us know and we can remove you from the distribution list.
The ad text box has always been there (no programming was necessary ;o) but it doesn't always have a sponsor's ad to display.
Times are off by an hour when posting today in the Central Midwest Gardening forum

Okay, my Firefox problem was on my end and is now fixed. I went to Firefox help and searched for "image." I discovered there is a way to block images from automatically loading on selected sites. DG was the only site that was blocked. What puzzles me is how that could have happened. I am the only one who ever uses my laptop and I did not know how to block a site until just now. At any rate, scratch my concern about DG's system off the list!
patrob, thanks for letting us know!
Thanks - I have noted that, but can you do me a favor and check your personal profile to see if your time is set right? That will affect the time that shows up on everyone's posts that you see.
Does the timestamp on the posts appear to be correct now?
Starting at 3:12PM EDT I was unable to get to this site at all for over 3 horrible hours! It was 6:25PM when I gave up. This is the 1st time I've tried since then, so I don't know how long my actual 'black out period' actually lasted. During the 3 hours when I could not access DG, I had no problems accessing other sites, but when I tried to get to DG, the browser would repeatedly timeout without ever getting on the site. It was a very horrible experience made all the more awful by the fact that now that I am finally able to access the site again, I see no indication that anyone else experienced the problem.
What happened?
I'm really sorry, but I don't know - no one else reported any problems. I was on the site throughout that time without any timeouts or hiccups.
Terry,
When I saw that others had not reported the problem, I was afraid you were going to say this, but, seriously, there was a problem - even if the problem was only that for some unknown reason my IP could not connect to the server.
I keep several DG browser windows up at all times. When I returned home this afternoon, I tried to update one of my DG browser windows, as I always do, to see what had happened at DG in my absence (and because, although I hate to admit it, I'm something of a DG addict). Suddenly, the browser window, the same one I had been using just a few hours earlier, was unable to connect. I tried repeatedly, but it just kept timing out.
To troubleshoot the problem, I tried several of my other open DG browser windows, all of which I had also been using earlier w/o problems just a few hours earlier. None were able to re-connect to DG. All timed out repeatedly. I noted the time as 3:12PM. I then opened other tabs and windows in Firefox. None were able to connect to DG. ALL were able to connect to a variety of other sites.
I spent over 3 hours window shopping on Amazon, reading books, and working on several other sites while periodically 'retrying' one or more of the DG windows but was repeatedly unable to connect. Then when I returned to the computer at 11PM, I hit 'retry' once more on one of the SAME browser windows that had previously been unable to connect. This time I was reconnected to DG w/o any problems.
I can't see any way that the problem could have been on my side considering that (1) I had no problem accessing ANY other site during the time when I was unable to connect to DG; in fact, I was working on several other sites during the entire time; (2) the same browser window that I had been using before the problem started, was unable to connect during the problem time, but was able to reconnect hours later when the problem cleared.
I could swear that I saw a post recently (w/in the past week, I think) in which another DG member complained of not being able to access the site for hours at a time - but now I'm having difficulty locating that post. Will try again to find it and return.
For a DG addict, being unable to connect for hours - and thus unable to talk to one's DG friends - is a dreadful experience.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the post to which I referred above.
As for no one else having reported the problem, I do find that extremely worrisome. Then again, maybe the others are still out there somewhere unable to connect. ;-)
I was unable to connect to DG for at least an hour. I was posting to a thread and it timed out. I then tried connecting with fresh browser windows and then tried using an ISP from the states in case y'all were blocking foreign ones. I guess that the system is having hiccups...
What time period were you unable to login?
Guessing here...just after 5pm to just after 6:20pm KST.
