new thread for system issues

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Please continue to let us know about issues that you're finding on DG. (Hopefully we're past the worst of the problems, but we do want to keep the communication lines open in case other issues crop up.)

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

nuts & hart, I'm guessing it's a browser thing whether that Search function on the Home page works or not. It works for me (if I 'return' after the search word(s)). I'm using Firefox.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Since I unchecked the Top Watchdog Adds, I've not had a single incidence of the pages jumping around. I'm beginning to think that is the 'fix' for the page jumping problem. I am now going to recheck the Top Watchdog Adds to see if the problem comes back.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks - I think you might be right, and I'll try checking the same thing with my browser.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I've had several occasions where total blocks are black or black with some coding in them. I usually see it on the Ohio forum but that is the one I visit most. Today I went to the daylily forum and the last column was completely black.

There is also something going on with the Classified Ads forum today. The last poster has changed but there is nothing on the forum but the "Welcome" post.

Is this still happening? If so, is it a particular thread? (I'm not seeing any problems when I access both forums.)

Yes, the tech team is aware of that, and hopefully they will have the ads restored ASAP; I've asked them to also extend the ads a few days to make up for the lost time.

Thanks Terry for the new thread.

Thanks DreamOfSpring for your input.

Melbourne, FL

My banner graphics are still missing.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

You know Terry, when I want to duplicate it, I can't. LOL

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Kind of like that squeak in my car engine, which stops as soon as I make an appointment with the mechanic ;o)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I just went to the Ohio forum and clicked around. If I pick the threads with over 300 replies, the top box starts out black then fills in. Normally it remains black until I hit 'refresh'. I guess the length of the thread is causing it to load slow. I've just never seen it do that until the last few weeks maybe.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Exactly!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

This is minor, but I noticed on this week's newsletter, under the summaries, the number of posts are all zero.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

KyWoods,

There is a thread for that: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1097948/

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks!

Site running slow for me again. It sped up a bit that one day then went back to the slow speed. I'm used to it now but it would be nice to have the speed back. lol

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

The same article is still stuck on the front page for non-members.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

The PlantFiles photos issue is back again - as posted here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7791501

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Someone reported the logged-out front page being stuck over the weekend, so I've noted that one already, but thank you - anytime you see something like that please do let suk now..

The PF photo times were thrown off again last night, when they were working on some time stamp issues. When I finally logged off at midnight they were still working ...apparently there is a lot of complexity around how time stamps work on the site ;o)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey, I captured one of the weird pages! I was reading posts and clicked on one in the Ohio forum, then 'skip to new' and this is what appeared.

That's great - thank you! I'll pass that along to the tech team ;o)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Should I release PF photos or let them wait until this is fixed again?

Re: Resizing pictures.

Is anyone having problems when uploading resized photos? I'm new at this so I don't know if it's even a system issue. It could be the programs I've tried or some glitch in my computer.

I've been experimenting on the Test Forum & even after resizing my pics (tried two different programs), they still show up huge on DG even though both programs show the dimensions as smaller.

Before I try another program or download one just for resizing I'd like to make sure it's not a DG system issue.

Thanks!

Marlton, NJ

Hi nuts, Yours seem fine in the Test forum to me. I have had a few times when some photos (even my own which are resized) loaded slowly so I figured it was a website (DG) thing.

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

That's interesting. I've never had to resize any photos. Sometimes it takes a moment to upload them. But the quality of detail is worth the wait. Not that all of my photos are that clear ;-) I don't have the best camera LOL

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks pelletory.

The main issue I'm having is that on my tests all the resized pics look the same size as the original size. They seem to load fine, timewise.

I guess the only way to narrow it down will be to try a different, newer program & go from there. That may help me decide whether or not it's a DG issue. When you've had problems with load times were your photos actually resized when they finally loaded?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We recommend 800x600 or 640x480 for most pics. The system *should* resize any photos larger than 1000x800 so if yours are showing up larger than that, please let me know where they are located.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks PedricksCorner, pelletory & Terry.

Terry, I have several "tests" in the Test Forum.

The ones I was trying to resize are the flowers after the Squirrel. The first one shows in my programs as 2110x1843. After that I went down a little at a time. The last one is 800x738 yet they all look the same size in the Test Forum (at least at my end).

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I just unintentionally loaded one that is 3072 x 2304 (16.7 million colors, 2MB). It did take quite a few seconds but it went. I was trying to put the photo in my personal plant database and forgot to re-size it before I posted it so I could copy and post it.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We may have accidentally lifted the size limiter and re-sizing tool. I'll check on this and see.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thank You!

By the way, does anybody think DG should add a "Dave's Garden for Dummies" Forum for members like me??

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Terry, this is the photo I uploaded (details above). Don't know if it will help you with the size thing or not. But at least you know how big it is, stored on my computer and how big it is stored on DG....maybe??

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Sorry, Terry.
I forgot to give you the link for my resize tests.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1097483/

The flowers were for a Plant Files entry.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I was in the Texas Gardening Forum and trying to open up a thread. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1098158/

I got this message.

Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted.

2nd try and it worked.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

The intermittent outages (with the mySQL errors) are hopefully going to be corrected with the next scheduled release of fixes, set for next week.

I think it's a bit like an angioplasty, clearing out some clogged arteries and passages ;o)

Logan Lake, BC(Zone 3a)

FYI just got the DBE on the daylily forum!

Melbourne, FL

Just got my banner graphics back. Thanks!

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Just got another SQL error while moving from a thread back to Home. Used my "back" button to get back to Home.

Slow, slow, slow today between 11-2pm my time (Ohio).

Not my browser, only on DG.
